Given the way Twilight has acted with her, I'm pretty sure that the fanon that she'd be immediately thrown in a dungeon is completely groundless.

The world she's in is the one that has her friends in it. "Home" just doesn't hold much value anymore. I think the reason she hasn't even visited to ask Celestia's forgiveness is mostly shame.

They never explained it but I head canon that she didn't do it because she was to afraid to face her failure.
Sunset running off was Celestia's fault and she knows it but is to much of a coward to admit it and deal with the problem.
Celestia seems to have a habit of just sweeping problems under the rug rather than dealing with them head on.
