>You slowly rise from your shallow grave
>Mere mortals may refer to it by its heathen name
>The bed

>You smack your lips in a sleepy stupor and scan the darkened room
>Oddly enough, you never noticed it, but there are no windows…
>No matter, you blearily cpa your hooves once, and the lights turn on
>Sort of

>They start pale and dim, but slowly brighten as your eyes are acclimated to the light
>Neat!
>You take the moment to stretch in bed and yawn quietly

>You check the clock dimly blinking on the nightstand as you roll your shoulders
>It reads 9:25 am
>…Kinda early for you, actually
>Back at your old job, you were used to walking up late
>Mostly because many of your clients showed up after normal schooling hours
>For obvious reasons

>Oh well
>Must be because of your early turn in last night
>Still, your nap has left you energized and ready to tackle the day!

>You get up and walk towards the bathroom to get ready
>As you comb your mane, the mirror reads your daily itinerary, as it had before

==

-Check in with specimen
-Check in with A. Subsidy
-Check in with D. Oxi
-TBD

==

>Hm.
>Kind of a short list
>It doesn’t appear to be numbered either
>Guess you can just sorta do whatever you want in whatever order you want?
>You are a grown mare, after all

>You suppose you could check in with Blobby
>See if it’s awake, even though you gave it a powerful tranquilizer
>You can also talk to Subsidy, but it can’t be that important if it’s not at the top of the list
>And she sure as heck didn’t send you a message either
>As for Dee…
>She probably wants to use more needles on Blobby.
>Well, probably not, but she totally would if she could!

>You get ready to get dressed for the day, but something catches your ears
>…Sounds like somepony galloping outside of your room…
>You hear a muffled shout of, “Oy! Wotch it!”

>You run the comb through your mane once more as you mull over your clothing for today
>Same outfit of turtleneck, coat, and scrunchie?
>Or something new?
>>
>>29396813
Go with the tried and true, same old same old.
>>
>>29396813
Same clothes, check in on blobber first.
>>
>>29396754
>to confirm you are Equestrian.
Wow racist. What if I'm a griffon huh?
>>
>>29396813
As long as it's clean clothes.
>>
>>29396813
It's still stylish. Today let's keep the style. We can always change into something else in the future.

How's our widdow bebe today?
>>
>>29396813
Just coat and scrunchie. We've got things to do, blobs to see, it isn't that cold here, right?

>It might be best to check in on your blob foal
>Even if its asleep, it can't hurt to be mindful of it
>And if its awake, you might even get to play a bit!
>That'll be GREAT!

>You slide open your door and-
>"-TCH! WEW! This hall is some roight death trap, ye damn mad horses!"
>You slink back into your door and start to apologize profusely to the irked pegasus
"Oh! Sorry, so sorry! I didn't see you! Please don't be mad!"

>Goose sighs and rolls his eyes, using his wings to readjust the jar on his back
>"Ah, I- It's fine, really. I guess I was a little fired up from this TOSSER JOGGIN' IN TH' HALL"

>You hear Second Wind call out from across the complex
>"I heard that! I already said sorry!"
>Goose cranes his neck to the side, towards Wind and bellows
>"YA DAMN NEAR CRACKED OPEN A GALLON OF MANTICORE SPUNK, YA TROG"

>He groans again and resettles the heaving jar on his back and takes a breather by your door
>...
>...He's somewhat blocking it.
>Well, not physically
>But you really don't want to tip that jar of thick cloudy fluid
>>
>>29397084
Excuse me, why do you have that jar?
>>
>>29397084
That's a copious amount of dingaling juice you got there.
>>
>>29397084
I'm sure the manticore wouldn't mind supplying more in case something happened to the jar. Continue on your way.

"...That is a LOT of dingaling juice"
>"No kiddin..."
>...
>...

"Why do you have so much?"
>"...Because I loike to bathe in it."
>You chuckle sensibly, but his face remains stone cold.
>For about a second
>Soon afterwards, he too chuckles sensibly at his own joke

"Think you can move? I need to get to work, too."
>"...Mm? Oh, sorry bout that."
>He sidles out of the way, and you slip on out
>You choose to take this opportunity to small talk with him
>Even if he just wants to be on his way

>As you walk next to Goose, you can't help but be distracted by the heaping jar of baby batter on his back
>It seems almost vulgar to have such a thing out in the open
>"...Getting excited, Poly?" he asks playfully
>You feel your face grow a little hot as you insist
"H-Hey! Can you blame me?! I;ve never seen such a huge container of... that stuff. Ever!"
>"Well have you seen a manticore?"
"N-Not in pony, no."
>"Well, these loads are pretty normal fer them. A damn shame they're so ornery, they'd make roght good pets."

"So why do you have so much of it?" you inquire innocently
>"Well, Dee needed some of those 'pure genetic samples,' n' the like, roight? So get this, she starts ta lecture me about zygotes and such! The nerve!"
"Maybe she was just trying to be clear?"
>"Clear nothin! I moight look like some bum out on th' range, but I'm a seasoned cryptozoologist! I've wirtten books, y'know!"
"Really?"
>"I- Er... Yeah, but they ain't been published yet. But they WILL!" he declares, jumping a little too qucik for the jar on his back

>You reach a hoof out to stabilize the precious and viscous package, and Goose nervously laughs
>"Er... Roght. Thanks, Poly."
"No problem!" you beam, glad that he is at least in a better mood now than he was earlier

>You arrive at Blobby's door, much to Goose's dismay, and you fish out your clearance card
>"Damn. Wos hopin to vent at ya a bit longer."
>You chuckle warmly as you swipe it, and Goose makes his way to Dee, waving farewell
>Inside is-

>Oh.
>>
>>29397187
Blobby is trying out his new mouth. Look inside the tire?
>>
>>29397187
Blobby? Sweet? Bud? Come on out.
>>
>>29397187
Would you look at that? He peed the pad.
>>
>>29397187
Note to self: check video

>>
>>29397187
He must be teething.
>>
>>29397187
Hold on, isn't spunk only HALF of a full creature's genetic material?
>>
>>29397340
Each individual sperm contains 50%, but not every sperm is identical. Given good enough genetic analysis, you'd be able to take your pick of which sperm cell you'd want to fertilize the egg with to achieve the desired traits.
>>
>>29397187
Investigate the tire.
>>
>>29397187
Lets go with the less obvious answer:
close door and inspect dog food bowl.

>You walk into the room, and your ears immdiately twitch in response to a quiet grumble
>You take each step slowly, and speak softly, calling for your babbu

"Blobby? Here boy, er, girl, er... Thing?"
>Hm
>You'll need to figure out if its a he or a she later
>In any case you continue to call

"Blobby? Where are you, baby?"

>You look around the room

>The first thing you see is the tire
>A large hole has been chewed into it
>And a considerable amount of rubber appears to be missing
>Could it have eaten the rubber?

>Hmm

>You close the door behind you
>Best to avoid any more containment breaches when possible

>Before you approach the tire, as it appears to be the most appropriate hiding place for the baby blob, you inspect the other parts of the room

>First, you check the water bowl, and t appears completely dry
>When you last checked it, the bowl was filled with at least a few cups of water
>Blobby must have drank all of it
>The fact theres not even a few drops left is concerning
>he might be very thirsty!

>You turn your attention to the pad where Blobby was last left, and it appears to have a large wet spot
>Awwww
>Baby wet his blankie!
>Guess you'll have to check in with either Subsidy or Losses to see who to talk to about cleaning Blobby's blanies.

>The doll appears to be gone as well...
>Wonder where it went?

>Finally, you decide to approach the tire
>You can fainly hear a quiet grumble, punctuated by a pronounced whimper
>You lean down and peer into the hole
>With a soft voice, you coo
"Hey Blobby!~ Are you hiding in here?~"

>You assess Blobby's situation
>It appears to be jammed into the recess fairly well

>It shrinks a little from your gaze and spits up a bit of rubber
>You see the stuffed pony in there too, simply lying loosely in the pseudo cave

>Judging from the state of the tire, it seems that Blobby must have woken up to teething
>The tranquilizer you gave it earlier must have helped the pain, but with it wearing off...
>Blobby grumbles again
>>
>>29397470
We got anything for that? Maybe something tough to chew?
My mom used to give me a little whiskey.
>>
>>29397494
That does help but not in the way you want it too.
>>
>>29397470
Blobby can understand intent right?
>"Come on out sweety. I'm sorry that I tricked you, but I didn't want you to hurt. I'm sorry."
Gotta sound and look sincere
>>
>>29397533

If all else fails, call to it in the tongue native to your people (and possibly its); "Weh"
>>
>>29397494
IDK. Maybe a wet rag?
>>
>>29397470
I'd he hungry? Dial up Dee and ask her if she has an idea on anything appropriate for Blobby to consure, because he chewed a hole in the tire. It's kind of cute, like a round about cave.
>>
>>29397470
Use watch
>help: where can I get it who can get chew toys, blankets, and some water?
>>
>>29397470
Get down on our belly and sing sweet words to him. He doesn't have to understand what you say, just knows that it's safe.
>>
>>29397470
Aww, what's wrong?
Try to coax Blob out with a hoof. Brace for biting.
>>
>>29397579
Fucking hell. What am I doing up so late?
>>
>>29397470
>Help: can the watch play music?
Play some gently wind or strong instruments, nothing too shrill. Or maybe a mare singing.
>>
>>29397596
Well they did say they'd give us a replacement leg if anything happened.
>>
>>29397470
Page Hibachi: hey do you have any food right now?
>>
>>29397470
List of thing needed: several blankies, one of those pet beds spike had or typical pet beds, more water, another bowl for maybe solid food, those super absorbent training pads for pets
>>
>>29397593
Does he still trust Polly after the soda incident? You bunch of ding dongs let Blobby get hurt. That wasn't good parenting at all! That was tempering him! Or, not really. Still.

>You sweetly ask it again
"C'mon out, baby. I'm sorry about the needles, I didn't want to hurt you, I'm sorry. Please come out?"
>You pount and then smile and hold your hoof out
>It meekly squeaks in response, and tries to get closer to you, but a flash of pain causes it to twitch and recede into the tire

>Dang it!
>Close, but no dice.
>It's probably hiding in the tire because of the teething...
>Actually, you wonder if its hungry?
>It is a growing genetic terror.
>Maybe it just needs some morning oats?

>So...
>You'll need to get a few things
>Something tough, but pliable for blobby to chew
>Some new blankets to replace the messed ones
>And some food that-

>Wait

>What does Blobby even eat?

>You quickly page Dee and ask
"Dee, what does Blobby eat?"
>"What?" her incredulous tone crackles through your watch
>"How the heck should I know? I'm still parsing its saliva, let alone the-"

>You hang up and try calling somepony else
>How about Hibachi?
>You page him, and the line opens to the sound of a sizzling grill
>"H-Hello?"
"Morning, Hibachi! Do you know what Blobby eats?"
>"Morning Poly, I- what? What do you mean what does it eat? Is blobby that huge jelly dumpling?"
"Yes. He has ears and teeth now. Did you not hear?"
>"I... I just cook things. D-Did you want to cook Blobby?"
"What?! No! I-"

>A piece of rubber plops onto the floor, and you look back at the tire
>It appears Blobby is back to tearing it up
>Desperate grumbles and squeaks come from it as the tire is saveged by Blobby's teeny, sharp teeth.

"-Do you know what a small baby... Thing might eat?"
>"I... Baby food? Poly, I dunno. I make food for big ponies, not babies!"
>You sigh
"...Thanks Hibachi."
>"Sorry Poly..."

>In a last ditch, you page Losses whoi, luckily enough, manages to promise you a care package within the next few hours
>"Dont worry poly" she adds
>"The crate will come with a bed, some pads, a chew toy, and a new dish. I've got your back!"

How about some milk? It's usually that or egg yolk which tend to be the first food source.

Well he needs something tough, like tyre rubber, but still providing nutrition.

Does Hibach have anything tough and hard to chew? Asparagus? Changeling jerky? Actually, better ask Losses for that one.
>>
>>29397729
Applesauce? Pureed veggies? Yogurt? Milk?
Since it's already teething, we should probably give it some soft foods.

Better yet, have the chef prepare a platter of small plates from each of the food groups and let Blobbers decide. Don't forget the water.

>Maybe he could get a chew
>Something that little doggies get!
>You recall a neighbor of yours would get... Pig's ears...

>You shudder, immediately reminded of poor, poor thyme
>May she rest in piece
>...And not with a side of potatoes

>You calm yourself before you get worked up, and you bolster your resolve
>You don't want to leave Blobby all by himself in the tire, so you figure you can carry him to Hibachi and ask for the ear

>Actually, that's a REALLY good idea!
>Once you get a chew, you can talk to Hibachi about getting a bunch of different foods to test Blobby's tastes!

>But first, you need to get Blobby out of the tire safe and sound
>And maybe talk to Methlyne to get a better, less drowsy tranquilizer before you get food
>Just in case Blobby's teething gets too severe

>You crawl over to the tire and peer in again
>...Yep he's stuck in there pretty good
>You tentatively reach into the chewed up tire, bracing for a bite
>But luckily it never comes
>Blobby isntead tries to pull towards your hoof, but his body remains lodged firmly in the tire

>You wedge your hooves around his body as best as you can, your body and his causing a slight buldge in the tire's exterior
>Blobby groans uncomfortably, but doesnt protest much further
>With a little bit of effort, you manage to hook onto his body
>You also note how much firmer and more opaque his body has become
>In fact, you're not sure if you can see his organelles anymore

>Either way, you start to pull, the strain causing the creature to squeak quietly

>You pull and pull, trying to not hurt Blobby until-

*POP!*

>Your grip around Blobby loosens as you tumble onto your back clumsily
>You let out a small 'oof' as your glasses and your hair tumbles over your face, and you hear a dull smack on the floor a few feet from you
"Oh no! I'm sorry Blobby, are you okay?"

>You clear the hair out of your eyes and -

>His tiny forelimbs mirror your own little hoof kicks.

>He's got hooves!
>Baby got hoovsies!

>That means a lot of great things!
>He can BOOP!
>Truly his power will know no bounds!

>You get up quickly and giddily hop up and down, gleefully flying off into fanciful daydreams about Blobby mastering the hoof hold and the quadruple boop
>But his errant squeaks drive you from your happy place quickly

>He makes a chewing motion with his mouth and looks around the room in distress
>Thinking quickly, you decide to scoop him up and get ready for your transfer to the Mess Hall

>As much as you'd like to test his teeny hooves, you'll probably want to get Second Wind to help you with that
>For now, you have a teething baby blobby that needs attention!

>Actually, for that matter...
>Why did he grow hooves?
>Could it be that Second Wind's sweat is still making him evolve?
>Or did he perhaps get an injection without you knowing...
>You recall that Dee opens the lab and begins working a full hour and a half before you got up
>It's totally possible...

>Either way, you swipe your card at the exit
>And the door beeps once
>You fumble with the card a bit, and readjust Blobby on your back
>And swipe it again

>This time the door beeps twice and it lets you through

>You trot at a brisk pace towards the Mess Hall and check the time
>Looks to be a little past 10:30
>At this point, you're not sure which would make you more excited - if everyone got to see his brand new leggies, or if you could show each one personally
>They would be SO excited!

>You round the corner into the mess hall, and scan the room quickly
>Seems like Hibachi is the only one around

>"Hello!" he calls out from behind his countertop, scooping the remains of various vegetables and fruits into the garbage
>"Awfully late for breakfast, aren't you? Unless you wanted brunch, in which case I- AAAUUGH"

Don't worry. I am perfectly aware of his adorableness and am in no way is it affecting me on a personal level.
>>
>>29409212

Well he's currently eating apart the furniture in his room, and what kind of responsible adult would we be if we left him alone waiting for food? He's just a baby! He wouldn't know if food was ever coming again! Can you imagine if we just checked in on him and then left him with no food? He might hate us, or it might psychologically damage him in unpredictable ways, and that's just unacceptable.

And I'm pretty sure at this stage he is reasonably safe to be handling. Besides, we can't keep him locked up in one room for all his life! He needs to see the sights! Experience new vistas! N-Not outside the facility or anything of course, but just far enough to encourage mental development.

"Hibachi, its okay!" you plead, placing Blobby carefully on the counter in front of him
>His horn stops glowing for a bit, and you hear a knife clatter onto the floor
>...
"...Really, Hibachi?"
>"I- I panicked!"

>You pat Lbobby for being a quiet little horror, and your scowl at Hibachi for a bit
>He nervously laughs, and his eyes lock back onto Blobby

>After a tense minute, Hibachi visibly calms down.
>"S-So why is he here? You called about food earlier, but... Isn't this a bit much? I thought there were rules!"

>You really just want to tell him YOU ARE THE LAW
>But there's a time and place for that
>You instead opt to calmly explain
"He was eating a TIRE Hibachi! He needs to feed his widdly wumbly tumbly!"

>"...Poly are you okay?"
"I may or may not be letting Blobby's adorableness affect me. But I am serious - In my line of work, foals who get left alone are severely damaged psychologically. It's even worse if they don;t get food, too!"

>"Alright, alright... So what did you want to feed him?"
"Well, he's teething so... I guess something firm?"
>"Does... Does it eat meat? I see fangs, but..."

>Hm.
>That's a good question.
"I guess grab a bit of everything? Just make sure its chewy."

>Several minues pass, and Hibachi emerges from the kitchen with a large platter
>You see several items on it

>A stalk of celery
>A frozen mango slice
>A tofu block, firm
>A piece of jerky
>And...

"Is.. Is that changeling steak?"
>"I... I had some left over."

>You gulp hard and lower Blobby onto the table
>He squishes quietly around and looks at the plate
>And back at you

>"I don't think he knows what to do, Poly"
"Just let him be! he needs to choose for himself! We need to know what he likes!"

>You and Hibachi watch carefully as he squishes over to the plate, still looking back at you every so often

>It hovers over the plate and looks at you in confusion

>It...
>Does it think its unsafe?
>Or is it waiting for you to do something?
>What would happen if we just let it be?
>>
>>29409547

This is no time for waiting around. Your poor baby's teeth are in pain, and you need to lead by example! E-Even if it means putting things in your mouth that are less than desirable. All you have to do is show him how to chow down on these things. You have to be brave Poly! Do it for science! Do it for Blobby!
>>

Perhaps, it should see us eat something?

>>29409547

start with the celery, take a bite then give him the rest

>>29409547

We're gonna have to show Blobby how it is done.

>>29409620
>>29409626
Let's start with the celery, maybe move on to the tofu and fruit if Blobby still isn't getting it. Surely he'll understand by then what to do. If not, I doubt Poly will be willing to try the changeling or jerky. But who knows, she might gain a taste for it and gain something in common with Losses.

>You decide to walk over and lock eyes with Blobby
>If he wants to eat, you suppoose you'll teach him how

>You exaggerate your motions, and grab a piece of celery gingerly
>You slowly place it into your mouth and bite down, snapping a chunk off into your mouth
>You chew slowly and enunciate a long and satisfied 'mmmmm!'

>Blobby cocks his head slightly and slides over to the celery stalk taht remains
>He too gingerly accepts it into his mouth and begins to chew
>At first, his look is blank
>But he quickly realizes that the food he is eating is quite good!
>He tears into the rest of it noisily, and quickly destroys what was left of the celery

>he looks at you expectantly, his little slime tail wagging happily
>Better still, he makes a little squeak

>You do the same thing with each piece of food, taking a small bite and letting Blobby have the rest
>Each piece of food invigorates him, and he squeaks louder and louder!

>This is good!
>Once he can squeak on command, we can maybe teach him some words and-

>Your hoof lands on the final piece of food
>The steak

>At first, you think about just tossing it to the side, but...
>Blobby's sharp teeth betray a more... carnivorous capability
>Maybe we can get Dee to make him a vegetarian
>But for now, those incisors mean he can and should be eating meat

>Well...
>What is life but an adventure
>And what is an adventure if you do not take risks

>You gingerly raise the braised meat to your mouth, its smell assaulting you
>It may smell good, but it is not!
>It was a changeling!
>It had a family!

>You take a teeny bite, groaning in anticipation
>You chew it, the fibrous tissue melting in your mouth and the flavors corresponding beautifully

>Hm.
>Could have been worse, you guess.

>You thrust those thoughts to the side, and look at Blobby.

>And you almost miss her having a seat across from you and blobby

>"So, I've glad we have all this high tech security and containment facilities, only for you to take the little tyke for a walk like he's a fresh puppy."

>Were you not supposed to do that?
>You thought you had complete control of the creature's growth!
>Part of that could be argued that taking him out of his dreary room would be okay, right?

>You clear your throat, ready to profusely apologize, but Subisdy instead turns her attention to blobby, pawing at her salad
>She chuckles warmly and pushes the salad away, much to its disappointment
>"Sorry kiddo, this is my brunch.~"

>She eats a heaping fork full of lettuce and looks back at you

"I-I uh... yeah. He's just a little baby right now, he won't hurt a fly!"

pausing here

I'll be selecting the choice with the best vote to rationale ratio.
>>
>>29410480
>Manticore
Seems too risky. We don't really need powerful vocal cords, and while the benefits are potentially nice, having him become aggressive and poisonous is unacceptable.
>Mimic
Not sure why we'd want him to have small vocal cords really, unless we're wanting him to develop towards stealth. There's nothing dangerous in the possible mutations. Carnivore just means changing his diet, but I'd rather not hobble his limbs right as he gets them.
>Minotaur
Average vocal cords are fine I guess, and strong limbs would be nice. The other stuff is okay too but ew no hooves biped.

Overall I'm leaning towards mimic, but the gambler in me would go for manticore.
>>
>>29410480
>>29410518

Although I agree with mimic, I'd have to say that Minotaur would have to be the best bet. The dangerous side effects don't seem as extreme as the Manticore or as concerning health deficiencies as the mimic.
So, I vote Minotaur.
>>
>>29410518
>I'd rather not hobble his limbs right as he gets them.
None of the mutations are explicitly going to hobble the Blobbu yet.
>>
>>29410544
I meant it's one of the possible mutations. We obviously don't get to pick those without getting a bunch of stuff for Dee first. Taking the risk seems cruel.
>>
>>29410480
What I want to know is, why any of these three samples? Why not a crystal pony, or a hydra, or a breezie?
>>
>>29410562
Or why not an alicorn?
>>
>>29410480

PUT IT ALL ON MINOTAUR
>>
>>29410566
Or a dragon?
>>
>>29410480
If we only had a choice of one, I'd say they all have their benefits in equal. Minotaur seems the most balanced of the three. Average voice, so we don't have to strain to hear him. Strong dextrous limbs are the obvious benefit.

>at the most two unwanted mutations, and that's if the creature is traumatized in any way
So there's a chance of horns and bipedalism not even happening. Though I'd take those over the manticore's aggression.

Speaking of, the best parts are intelligence and loyalty, which would be like more like raising a foal like Poly is used to. Poison can go either way, really. It's just a poison gland, and without a stinger or anything connected to it blobby won't be poisoning anyone soon.

Mimic's advantages are obviously the calmness and shapeshifting. Weak limbs aren't that much different from what's there now, and carnivorous is the only real drawback from this. Mimic is the 'safest' option IMO.

We don't have to mutate blobby now though, Dee says it herself that we have the say of what and when. Could be all three right now, could be nothing until new equipment comes in from Annie.
Our funding comes in from sponsors who want specific things put into blobby though, so I'd at least wait until then before making plans for further mutation. Find out of Dee can get the equipment she needs to fine tune the mutations first.
>>
>>29410581

Not yet, we don't have any injectors (or things like those) for a dragon yet
>>
>>29410480
Why not all three?
>>
>>29410868

I'd imagine it'd be too far unstable and risky to use all, but then again....

*SCIENCE*
>>
>>29410480
Manticore.

The aggression aggression and poison gland aren't a problem thanks to its loyal devotion. As long as it's devoted to us, then all of its supposed draw backs become positives.

Mimic doesn't bring enough to the table, and making it a carnivore could make things awkward if we ever grow it any bigger.

Minotaur is no hooves so fuck that shit.
>>
>>29410892
you know that the loyalty is far from guaranteed, right? Although I agree that we should go for Manticore

Here's how I see it:
Manticore, aggressive, poisonous, 4 legs but still no hooves. In short, blecch.

Mimic more or less makes it a changeling, and we already have those, so it sounds anticlimactic even though shape-shifting is cool.

Minotaur, while bipedal, sounds pretty good for the voice, strength and dex.

I vote Minotaur. It'll be a cool striped one!

>>
>>29411239
I don't like minotaurs. They're the only mythological race in mlp that retains their human traits, and I want Blobby to be at least similar to the vast majority of the races in the setting, which are quadrupeds.

I vote for manticore.

Vocal chords allow for mewling and purring and little babby cub roars.
When it comes to side effects, I think the positives greatly outweigh the negatives, especially compared to the other choices.
Intelligence and loyalty are amazing things to have. A poison gland is negligible, though aggression is iffy. With some work, I think we can deal with it.
Mimic really only offers calmness as a pro. While being a carnivore seems like only a diet change, it does change others' perception of it. No one's gonna be comfortable around a meat eater. Minor shapeshifting is meh, and the weak limbs is stunting its growth.
Other than no hooves anthro, mino is alright. But it's really just alright. It's pros aren't nearly as strong as manticore's.

>>29411883

>Injecting blobbo with things to buy time so we inject better things.
Or we could... Hold off on injecting him for now? If possible, we should find out what our sponsors want for the little guy before changing anything. Can you imagine if they wanted a big strong workhorse form for blobbo, and then we didn't realize that and gave him Mimic DNA, weakening his limbs? Or if the opposite was true and we made him too big and stronk. It would be a critical error on our part to not at least check first.

Ah, so we're working a two-pronged project here. The university wants to see if we can grow a friendly new species for academic research purposes, while the diamond dogs want to propagate them for mining slaves.

As ever in research, an ethical challenge indeed. Well if that's what's paying the bills, I guess we need a friendly creature capable of squeezing through small gaps, capable of surviving low oxygen environments, strong, capable of swinging a pick, patient, possibly acidic and capable of directly eating rock and excreting gems and precious metals.

It looks as if our work's cut out for us, now.

Oh sure the diamond dog route seems unethical, but we shouldn't toss it out the window just yet.

addendum...

"Here is the creature so far. As you can tell it is making headway in it's development. I'm confident that with additional time and resources we will develop it into something capable of meeting the needs of both of your organizations."
>>
>>29417325
Our first focus is developing it's ability to communicate so we can develop it's intelligence and it can gain the ability to understand what it hears.
>>
I am curious to meet all the investors. I hope there are investors who want less... unethical things. Best case scenario, there are some changelings that want us to bioengineer a creature that can just spread love all day. Yay, friendship.
>>
>>29417452
It could have been worse. Remember the bio-engineered cow in Douglas Adams' Restaurant At The End Of The Universe, who was made to be capable of clearly informing the diner that it was ready and willing to be eaten? Making that would be the pits!
>>
>>29417452
You could say we'd be making a, love machine.

>Blobby trying to boop Dee
Few things have made me go D'aww like this one

>>29417325
I'd like to point out that we're unaware of exactly which kinds of equipment has been delivered, if any. But I guess its safe to say it has grown limbs? It's intelligence is more akin to a baby right now, and we're working on speech next, but it will grow smarter and stronger eventually.
Also, an aside whisper to Annie: ask how each organization plans to make blobby fit their goals. Will the DVM use him as a template to make the other blobbies like him? Or as a single agent? Will the FSD?

I'd also admit to (not Twilight's mom) Velvet that we're not too comfy with the idea of making Blobby a slave. I mean look at his widdle arms! And the widdle fangs! It's like raising your own foal here!
>>
>>29417926
*PS

See if there's anything Velvet can do on her end to help keep the others cooperating. Even a slight relaxation of DVM's requirements would be helpful. I'd assume maintaining cooperation would be in her best interests.

Man, I can't wait to see what the changelings want from blobby, they sounded like their own group according to Losses' lines. Once we get the requirements from every organization we'd best start planning which ones are the most aligned.
>>
>>29417325
Ask for clarification on the DVM's intentions.

I have a feeling that they're looking for a worker that can be more efficient than a pony or diamond dog (and possibly paid less/not at all). At least, that is what is to be hoped for instead of using Blobby for the more unethical work.

"I'm not so sure I'm comfortable turning Blobby into a slave for your company..." you blurt out
>Subsidy cranes her head over, her eyes wide and her smile stretched all too painfiully across her face
>"P-Poly..? Th-That was a joke, right?"
>She looks back at Ruez's screen, flustered, before bursting into forced laughter
>"AH. HAH. HAH HAH. AAH. W-What a kidder! A slave?! Why, that would be AWFUL"

>Ruez readjusts his glasses knowingly
>Thankfully he doesnt look insulted and simply chuckles quietly.
>>"Funny pony. A slave creature would be extremely... Unethical."
"Yeah. It would." you add, ignoring a wincing Subsidy, quietly cursing herself for not having more control of the situation.

>>"Well Counselor, if you were present for the first meeting, you would know that I am not looking for a simple slave worker. My workforce is strong enough as is. I need a creature capable of trekking and retrieving hazardous materials from dangerous places"

"And you want them expendable?"
>>"At the price that I'm projecting for this project? Well, you could say I want the exact opposite, dear. I want it as indestructible as can be"

>He flicks his fingers, and the large dog fishes out a larger card from off screen

>>"Thanks honey, just hold it- There we go."
>He whips out a small pointer and references various charts and graphs as he explains-
>>"You see, DVM is a very special company. We specialize in rare materials and processing equipment - hence our donations to the CGAT. I, however, do not want to risk any more lives in my work force for further pursuits. The donations my company is making to you is for the production of a strong, resilient, and loyal workhorse - er, so to speak. If it's smart enough, then we'll respect is as we do anyone else in the company, otherwise..."
>He scoffs
>>"...Ever heard of an emerald changeling?"

"Can't you do something about this?"
>>"That's not my jurisdiction." she states simply
>>"Is there a problem?" Ruez asks

>Well...

Bit of a strange comparison. Aren't emerald changelings used for...eating?

>>"Yes," Velvet adds, "What progress has your team made regarding the specimen?"

"Well..." you start, hefting Blobby up towards the screens, his weight causing you to strain slightly
"He's... Currently like... This."
>You turn him around, eliciting a small squishing noise as you manipulate his boneless body.
>His forehooves kick idly in the air

>Ruez readjusts his glasses and leans back from the camera
>>"Looks a little scrawny. I trust this isn't the final product?"

"Product?! You-"
>A hoof jabs you in the side, interrupting you mid outburst
>You look at Subsidy who is chewing her hoof and donning an extremely distraught expression
>"Please don't shoo away the investors! We need that money! Nopony said that we HAD to follow their orders, just that we needed to work towards them! Long-game, Poly! Think of the long-game!" she half-whispers

"I..."
>You choose your words carefully
"Our first focus is developing its ability to communicate so we can develop its intelligence and it can gain the ability to understand what it hears. Is that alright?"

>Velvet clasps her hooves together in giddy pleasure
>>"Absolutely! And may I just add that it is absolutely a d o r a b l e!" she squeals

>Ruez looks on critically, but the dog behind him looks quite pleased
>>"I... Suppose that is fine. As long as the end product is strong and resilient, I suppose intelligence can only help it."
>You almost missed it, but you see both dogs' tails wagging slightly
>>"We'll clear this week's funding by tomorrow." he adds
>>"Likewise, Miss Poly" Velvet quickly adds
>And just like that, the screens flicker off

>The second they do, Subsidy collapses into her chair with a huge sigh of relief
>"And those are only the FIRST two, geeze!"

>...

>She pats Blobby on the head, and it gives a satisfied growl.
>"May I ask why you were so adamant about the 'slave monster' thing? It really was a weird place to go, to be honest."
"Well can you blame me? Ruez was asking for a worker animal, and I guess..."
>"You sounded like my mother." Annie chuckles
"Well, I work with foals. A lot. He's still growing, and there's intelligence here that goes beyond just another work animal. I guess I got offended on his behalf."
>"I see where you're coming from. At this point, its practically your child for the next few weeks. I can imagine certain protective urges might arise."

>Then, one thing strikes you as odd-
"Annie? Why was I not here for the first meeting?"
>"Hm?"
"The first meeting for the investors? What did I miss?"

>"Ah, that. Well, the first investor meeting was about a few days ago. You were still on the train up here. You couldn't reasonably attend. Truthfully, I've only spoke with DVM and FSD once before this. The other companies have left their demands completely in the dark."

What we need is dragon and hydra samples. Dragons for their immunity to lava, and hydraulic for their advanced regenerative abilities.
>>
>>29424619
Then we need the manticore sample for blobby

Assuming I'm thinking about this right, if we get poison then we can use a hydra sample to get scales which can lead us to the dragon sample, and that will give us the fire immunity and regen we need.

The FSD never said anything about scaled cuddle monsters being off limits, so I think this is the best choice for the job.
>>
>>29424668
I'd throw in a bit of Mimic too, so he'd be able to look whatevers cutest

I still say hold off on ANY of these things until we meet all the investors. Then we can plan for what pleases the most investors, rather than start building for the first guys who stop by.
>>
>>29426487
I like this one. It's a smart plan.
>>
>>29426487
I would agree with this, even with the briefing we have so far it would be good to know a few more lists of what potential rewards and goals are as almost certainly we can't get all the tier 3s with a single blobby and I can already imagine for example that while the PMC might like the indestructible workhorse creature the Dogs also want they would be unhappy if it is friendly to please the University rather than a loyal drone.
>>
>>29426487

It's Hijacker. Things unlock other things that are related to them but better.
Hijacker likes video games.
>>
>>29428110
Yeah but shouldn't it make sense? Even video games have some kind of logic.
>>

We'll give Blobby a sample, and that will progress him forward to the point where he takes another and another and so on. For a while there I thought you ment we would only need the the manticore venom then *BAM*. Dragon. But I don't think that's how it's gonna work.

"In the message I got before I came up here, the Director stated that there was more than one of the 'specimen.' I guess I was just curious about the rest of them."

>Subsidy leans back and gets a small black phone out of her lapel pocket
>"Well..." she starts, flicking through the screens on the phone idly
>"At the end of the day, when the creature matures and cannot be mutated further, we simply... Sell the process and a sample of the original specimen for the investors to handle themselves."

"You're going to sell Blobby?'
>"No, no, no! The specimen had several copies that split off during its early stages. The Director has a division of CGAT on hold to mass produce them when necessary. I guess it all comes down to who will be funding us at the end of the trial. Some investors might back out, some might purchase the creature and process early, and others might try to compete and outbid one another for the finalized creature."

>To think that they're going to bid on Blobby...
>You shudder at the thought of more... Morally unsound possibilities that may arise from this whole thing.

"I... I think we should meet all the investors as soon as possible. To get a better grip of what they want from us."
>"R- Really? I can arrange a big meeting, but that's going to take an entire day to work through them all..."

>Oh how it fills you with energy

>Subsidy, after a brief delay, asks you again
>"So... About that mass meeting..."
"When can we arrange this?"

>"Well, it will take a good portion of the day, and because the meeting room can only handle two callers at once... I think I'll be able to have everything scheduled in about an hour or two."

>Thats enough time to get some lunch and talk to maybe one of the other team members.
>You consider speaking to either Methlyne Blue, mostly because Ruex mentioned something about equipment, and you think it might be good to know about what that equipment might be...

>The door's locks unlatch shortly after it all goes quiet, and a pony face peeks out from a minimal crack in the door
>"...Y-Yes?"
"Hi Methlyne Blue, was it?"
>"Y-Yeah."
"I'm Poly Merase. The Developmental Counselor? We... never really met."
>"Oh. Hi."
"Hi."

>The two of you stand awkwardly at the door for a few moments
>"Can I close the door?"
"I... Is everything okay in there?"
>"It's okay."

>Blobby interrupts the silence with a subtle gurgle
>And at this new noise, she opens the door a little wider to catch a glimpse of the new baby blob
>She seems somewhat unfazed, but you can hear her quietly say under her breat
>"...Soon."
"Huh?"
>"H-Huh?"

"Right, uhhh... So... What do you do?"
>"I make chemicals and materials for commercail and private use."
"Right and that is... Uh..."

>She readjusts her hoof on the door, but a small controller falls out of her pocket
>"Shoot!"

>The black rectangle lands button side down, and you hear a speaker flick on, and a pony's voice cries out
>>"-OOK OUT! IT'S THE BATICORN!"
>Blue fumbles to the ground, frantically trying to shut it off, but it continues to play.

"Watching movies?"
>"I- I, uh, no I mean I u-uh" she stammers, completely flabberghasted at your observation
>As she spills spaghetti at the door, you take this moment to just simply jerk open the door and get a good glimpse inside the room

>What greets you is beyond words
>There appears to be a large television screen and an even larger bean bag placed squarely in front of it
>With a classic horror film on the screen
>Though muted, you can make out the terrified cries of various ponies as a unicorn with bat wings swoops down upon them, picking up fruit left and right.
>Methlyne, realizing that she couldn't keep you away lets out a wry chuckle and hangs her head
>"I uh... Waiting for materials to cook takes a while. Just wanted to keep an eye on the chemicals and not be super bored.
"So I take it you're a movie buff?"
>"Y-Yeah. I love movies. And cartoons. Just about anything on TV really."

>You, uh...
>Still kinda shocked she was able to fit the TV in the lab
>"You... Probably wanted the samples, right? I have some tranquilizers and anti-inflammatories brewed up too, if you need them. Oh, and Losses' armor plating will be finished cooking in eight hours."

>She stops for a second
>And asks you pleadingly
>"C-Can I keep the TV in here? Please don't tell Subsidy."

I agree with the other anon, we must gain hang-out movie-watching rights with this pone. Do NOT let Blobby see "The Blob".

FYI: A bit of movie trivia. The name of the white horse in the wife's bed in the movie Airplane was "Windy" also. Check the credits, you know it to be true.

"Wha? Why would I tell Subsidy?"
>"W-Well... I dunno?"
"Are you not supposed to have the TV here?"
>"I-I... Not really.. But it helps me wait for materials! It's purely for work, I swear!'
"Well, I have no problem with it."
>She sighs in relief, but you decide to gauge her feelings by adding
"On one condition - we get to watch too!"

>"You like movies too?"
"Of course! I'm sure Blobby could watch a few movies too! It would be good for him, right?"
>"W-We should show him 'The Blob' or 'The Thing' heh heh heh!" she chuckles quietly

>You stand there a moment and stare at her incredulously
>"O-Or we could show him other movies... And not the horror ones... S-Sorry."

>Right

"Another reason I swung by is because I heard that you had some equipment arrive?'
>"Oh, yeah. I got a hydraulic compressor and some Hazmat gear. It'll come in handy for some dangerous stuff and material production.
>She points over to a machine that looks like it has a huge block of metal for a mouth
>In it rests a plate of some unknown grey material
>Methlyne Blue, noting your curiosity, tells you-
>"That's the plating that Losses wanted. It's supposed to stop a heavy predator bite and some minor magical projectiles. A chimera could snap it if it tried super hard right though. I'd need a bit more materials to get it up to a higher grade"

>She walks over to the bean bag chair and leaps into it with a loud 'poomf'
>Now that she knows you are okay with the television, she turns the speakers back up, and the movie resumes playing
>At the moment, the dreaded baticorn is ravaging what appears to be a Ponemart
>Seems like an older film

>Methlyne Blue waves her hoof, and talks to you with a mouth full of popcorn
>"So if you needed anything, just tell me and I'll have it cooked up really quick!"

>You nod and you look at Blobby
>Apparently he reached out and got his mouth on a roll of rubber tubing.
>The movie blares in the background as Blobby's mouth is full of tube and his eyes locked to the screen.

>>
>>29470351
This. Blobby mimics what he sees, so he needs age appropriate viewing content.
>>
Hello, new guy here.
Are we going to develop specialized slimes for investors in the future?
I mean, we got copies of Blobby in his earlier form when he was just a gooball with a pair of eyeballs, right?
It would be easier to try bringing up another slime specifically suited for underground excavation.
I would propose using Blobby as a prototype to figuring out how exactly mutations work, trying to get a hang on chaining genes for specific mutations we want.
Additionally, Blobby would be best suited for friendship institute request. Especially advanced genetic equipment from second milestone may be crazy useful in splicing for exact traits we need.
I say it would be smart to start rising some subspecies after we know what exactly each investor is aiming for.
>>
>>29468568
Bloobo shouldn't watch TV so early in his development.

Have you seen that experiment where they ask two groups of children to draw.
One group with a lot of time wasted watching TV and the other not.

The T.V. watching group draw like shit. Not even using imagination

"It's okay if he eats this tubing, right?" you innocently inquire
>"Of course. It's actually high grade tubing, so if he can chew through it, then nothing in this room would stand a chance anyway."

>After a momentary pause, Blue asks back-
>"Wait, is he hungry? I have some bibs here and-"
"No, no, no! He's just teething. Just needs to chew on things as they grow in."
>"...I've got some painkillers that should work fine on him. Part of the same tranquilizer I cooked up using his genetic sample."
"Really?"
>"Yeah. The first batch is flavored too. Can't seem to get anything but hayfries to stick though"
>Hayfry pills?
>Intriguing

>She tosses you a small orange bottle from off the counter
>"Two of those will last for twelve hours. They're non-drowsy too."
"Thanks! I'm sure Blobby will appreciate the dulled pain."

>She flops back into her beanbag chair and continues speaking
>"- Maybe if I get more chemicals to balance-."

>You drone out her words as you focus on Blobby
>Oddly enough, you've never seen him so entranced by anything
>The television seems to be taking him into a realm of wonder

>WAIT A SECOND

"BLOBBY-" you shout as you leap into action
>Your hooves cup over his eyes, and he squishes inquisitively
>"Er..." Blue starts, a little concerned
>"Are you alright? What's up with covering his eyes?"

"Don't you know?! TV is bad for early development! It saps the imagination and energy from foals!"
>"Really? That doesn't sound right. I watched a ton of TV when I was a f-"
"Have you ever read Equus Videns?"
>"No, b-"
"Blobby isn't even getting a CELL PHONE until he's a young adult!"

>"O... Kay?"
"I don't want Blobby mimicking anything on TV either, so if we ever watch movies with you, do you think we can get age-appropriate films?"
>"S-Sure? I have some foal's movies I can put on later... I still want to finish my movie though."
"That's fine. Just for next time, okay?"

>After all, it's almost time to attend the meetings.

>A short walk later, and you find yourself in the Mess Hall.
>You check your watch and confirm that you'll be able to grab a quick bite to eat, then when that's over you can finally meet these other investors.
>While you would rather not do anything unethical with Blobby, you figure it can't hurt to hear what all the investors have to say and ask of you.

>As you sit down, Hibachi greets you eagerly
>"Poly! How's it going? I'm guessing you guys wanted to get some more food?"
"That's right Hibachi! I know I'm hungry, but Blobby must be STARVING! He's a growing whatchamajigger!"
>"Well have I got a treat for you two today! You see, earlier when you guys left after we tried to feed Blobby the platter, I started to brainstorm for some food that's acceptable for Blobby!"
"Really? I thought it was clear he could have anything?"

>Hibachi produces a large silver bowl, packed to the brim with small brown pellets
>A waft of steam rises from the gleaming bowl, and Blobby's eyes grow wide
>"Exactly! He's like an omnivore! With that in mind, I've went and designed an extremely dense kibble, just for him!"

>He places the bowl down onto the table, and you lower Blobby onto the same surface
>Blobby waddles quickly over to the bowl and hoists himself up to the rim using his forelegs
>His fanged mouth opens wide and plunges headfirst into the steaming bowl and the sounds of ravenous feasting fills the hall

>"And as for you, I made a thick cucumber sandwich to get you through the day."
>You thank Hibachi for the meal, and squirt a bit of dressing on it
>As you eat, you ping Second Wind to pick up Blobby

>...

>Just as you are finished with your sandwich, Windy comes by and lets out an impressed whistle.
>"I guess he's ready for a quick nap, hm?"
>Blobby gurgles contentedly in his now empty kibble bowl.

>You tenderly lift him and place him on Wing's back
>And he whines wantingly
>You lean forward, and the blob gives you a small goodbye boop before you head off to the meeting room.

>She squishes your face affectionately

>She pauses a moment and cranes her head around to look at your haunches
>"...Where's your gooey baby?"
"I decided it would be better to leave him with Second Wind. We're going to be talking to many important ponies, and I didn't want Blobby getting too cranky."

>"Putting the kid to bed, huh? Good call, honey. On that note, let me check the roster and see who we're talking to first..."

>She fishes out a small black folio, and you manage to sneak a peek of several sheets of hastily scrawled notes and observations
>"According to this..." Subsidy starts, perusing the various writings
>"We're talking to a Mister Thaddeus and a Mister Forty-Five..."
"Great!"

"...What kind of name is Forty-Five?"
>"He's a changeling, Poly. An old one y'know?"
"What does he want with us?"
>"We're going to find out soon enough, I guess. When we call them up, we're going to be going at it for a LONG while. Is there anything you wanted to get a quick check on before we begin?"
"I guess... Can you tell me what you know about either of them?"

>"Sure! Thaddeus, as far as I know is a dragon. He's been around for a good while, and even though I doubted his money... The check didn't bounce and he paid up front, so I really can't say we don't owe him at least some correspondence, right?"

"What about Forty-Five?"
>"He is as I said earlier - and old school changeling. Lives on love, a bit ruthless, but his money is good, apparently so I have no issue helping him. Provided he's not evil or something."

"I suppose if it's not hurting anypony it can't be all bad?"

I would do it, but I don't stay home much at all. I want something warm, protective, and around her size for at least a few decades so she can grow up happy."

Large, and strong enough to survive dragon roughhousing is doable.

Companionship is nebulous however, and only partially determined by genetics.

Toughness is no issue, but companionship would be a little tricky to blend in with that. Tough things aren't usually too friendly, looking at our current genetic material samples. But we can certainly try. Blobby is growing in affection, at least.

I can see it now, the university using blobby growing as a baby dragon's companion as a case study.

>"Great! With that out of the way, I'll be checking in with you all later down the line and if I like what I see, you'll get some extra stuff on my end. As long as this all ends up a better investment than a babysitter, that is"

>As he gets ready to go, you decide to ask one last thing
"Hey! Wait! Mister Thaddeus! Quick question, please!"
>>"Huh? What's wrong?"

"Just uh... How come dragons are in real estate?"
>>"Actually it's just me. You see pony, I've been saving up my hoard for a long time, and it wasn't until a few centuries ago did I have the brilliant idea of buying land. Dragons need to rent caves to sleep every so often, and I help that. They pay for the caves, and I let em use them. It's pretty good business, if I say so myself."
"I thought dragons just slept wherever, whenever, though?"
>>"They used to. Until some prissy pony royal took offense. Some dragon decided to sleep a little close for comfort, and wound up causing a decree for property protections in Equestria. Because of that, dragon's just cant pick a cave anymore and sleep it off. They gotta talk to the head honchos in charge-"
"So... You?"
>>"That's right little missy."

"Well... I hope we can make something your daughter will love for a long time, Mister Thaddeus."
>>"I'm counting on it!"

>And with that, the call ends, and the camera cuts out

>Subsidy rolls her head, eliciting some pops from her stiff neck, and turns to you
>"Way to take charge, Poly! You nearly took the words out of my mouth! You sure that cutiemark isn't for making deals?"
>You laugh bashfully and scratch your head
"I, uh, guess I just needed somepony a little less worrisome than Ruez earlier. I still can't get over him..."
>"Now, now" Subsidy chides
>"There's no reason to worry about such things. Besides, this is only the first one! We still have a few more. In fact, I'll even let you pick!"

"You said the changeling was next..." an air of confusion surrounding your words
>"I did?" Subsidy asks, almost surprised
>She takes a gander at the list again and puts a hoof to her head, lightly bopping herself on the forehead
>"Oh my gosh, I really did! That's just silly of me! Hah!"

>She puts the folder back down and punches in a few quick numbers on the control pad.
*Ring*
*Ri-*

>>"Hello! Is this the CGAT's Annual Subsidy on my caller ID?~"
>Compared to Thaddeus, this changeling seems to be significantly more chipper
>And it doesn't help that she's got one of those bubbly secretary voices

>The screen ahead flickers on as the connection is established, and you are greeted with a chitinous visage
>Old school changeling indeed, as the figure that appears on screen definitely looks like what you would expect an insectoid pony to look like
>Save for the conservative apron and bow on her head
>...Without a mane, that bow looks a little odd

>"Hi, this must be Forty-Five, right?"
>>"Correctarooni! I assume the nature of this call is in regards to our recent sizable donation to your company?"

>"Yeah. We were calling up all the investors to get a good idea of what everyone wanted out of the project."
>>"Absolutely outstanding!" she beams
>>"But may I ask who this pretty little mare next to you is?"
"My name is Poly Merase, I'm the developmental counselor for Blobby."
>>"Blobby? Is that the specimen's name?"
"Well, uh, no, but I think 'the specimen' is a little... on the nose."

>She cocks her head inquisitively, but otherwise continues
>>"And what exactly is your purpose?"
"I will be helping it grow as a creature, and making sure it fits the needs of the investors."

>>"Is that so..? I suppose you'll need to get the on the up-and-up about our desires for this project!"
>"That's the plan!"

>>"I suppose if I had to put it simply, we are going to need you all to make a sort of... Nanny, I suppose? A very good one at that. Preferably one that doesn't play favorites."
>>
>>29496352
Another "care taker?" Interesting.

"A nanny? Like a caretaker?"
>>"Pretty much, Missy. We have a LOT of larvae that need care, and not a lot of changelings to do so. You see, OverHive is a smaller business and hive, and we just dont have the pony power a larger hive has. We're willing to invest in a better and more attentive alternative to tired and overworked changelings."

>Another caretaker...
>You hope to yourself that they ALL have something like this along the lines
>It'll be way easier to deal with, then!

"I suppose we can do that. More than that! We can make a nanny that will be friends with just about all the larvae and ensure they grow up-"
>>"Friends? Excuse me?"
"Er... Is something wrong?"
>She scoffs quietly, but maintains an earnest and spunky attitude
>>"Well, it's just that... We don't need socializing. Just something to patrol the hive and perform caretaking functions. Feeding, burping, and placement."

"And just what kind of skills should we encourage Blobby to adopt?"
>Subsidy adds on quickly
>"We need a place to start before we fully commit to a design principle"
>>"That's fair. If I had to put it simply, I think we could use..."

>Forty Five fishes out a clipboard and starts to scrub through it, humming a ditty as she does so
>You and Subsidy awkwardly sit in silence as she mutters various numbers to herself
>>"I think it will need a good dose of intelligence, low-light vision, and possibly a body capable of quick and dexterous movement"

>She sets the board down and clasps her hooves together, smiling into the camera
>>"Though to be honest, the dextrous movement can be on the back burner. We've been meaning to improve our infrastructure around the hatching chambers"

>"Well, as you know, the policy is that the more you pay into the project, the more influence we can grant you in the development of the specimen"
>>"I fully understand, Subsidy. I've included the materials list that we are willing to send your way for adhering to our requirements"

>>
>>29496601
Poly's dealt with bebes before. Is that the best for nymphs? No need for a caretaker?
>>
>>29496601
Do you have any requirements on the personality side at all?
We have only one specimen, so we will have to try and ensure there's some kind of overlap between the needs of the investors going forward.

Some want a friendly creature for studying social interaction, others want a physically resilient thing for labor.

I wonder if a love giving blobby taking care of changelings would be a worthy study case for the CUFSD
>>
>>29496601
Wow a triceratops!
>>
This is my ideal plan so far:
We can do the real estate dragon, the diamond dog mining company, and the canterlot university. I'm unsure of the changelings though. You see, the University - at least in my mind - would be the simplest choice because friendship and whatnot.we choose anything but the manticore because of its aggressiveness, and we work our way up to milestone two so we can borrow down which traits to pass down.
>>
>>29496750
The university has the most overlap with all the investors so far.
Friendliness makes for good caretakers and siblings.

Pony traits, and dragon traits, both have their uses. A changeling instructor could be used for any number of things, obstacle course is usefull all round, Second Wind would have a field day with that. Extra equipment and personnel can't hurt persuing any investor's goal. So I think the University is our best 'default' choice.
>>
>>29496783
Agreed
>>
>>29496750
Youre onto something.
Dogs want a resilient and hardy creature with reasonable intelligence.
Ponies want friendly and sociable one.
Dragon wants big and friendly creature that is also hardy.
Lings want something that would take care of their grubs.

The way I see it, for now we need a basic creature with a dose of intelligence.
From this point we can split it to develop its
a) sociability
b) general hardynes
Social ones for pones and lings, hardy ones for dogs and a mix of the two for dragon.

I really feel like we need to start working on a sibling for Blobby that is specked in the specific way towards resilience.
>>
>>29496601
Something to ask Subsidy later.
Wait, what was 'our' original goal? Was it to research Blobby and understand it, or are we just filling out commissions? I gotta known which takes priority. I kind of understand we can do both, but how much of either?

"That's all well and good, but I feel like I need to ask - Did you... want a sort of personality associated with it?"
>>"Whatever do you mean?"
"Like.. How Blobby acts. Do you want him to be nice, strict, watchful..."
>>"I think watchful would be a good idea. Maybe not so much as nice or strict. Those kinds of personalities don't quite help us. Though I imagine they might not hurt in some cases..."

>"I think we're getting a little off base here. We barely have the thing fully fleshed out yet, so we should avoid any kind of commitments to rearing practices."
"I guess you're right. I mean, personality CAN be taught. Nurture not nature, I suppose."

>So far, it seems that you'll have a few avenues to pursue once you get rolling
>One is hardiness, and the other is sociability
>As Blobby grows, you're certain you'll be able to figure it out

>>"Actually... A very mellow personality would be absolutely incredible."
>"What's that?"
>>"In regards to the creature's personality. Mellow, reserved, and calm. I most certainly would appreciate that kind of creature. Better still if it doesn't play favorites."
"I think it'll be fine. I've worked with tons of foals before, and I've never played favorites."
>>"Well you have you ever raised larvae before?"
"N-No, but isn't it like a foal, just squishier?"
>>"...No. The reason I need it to not play favorites is absolutely critical to the rearing process. Please take that into consideration as you perform your duties."
"Yes ma'am." you oblige, a little wary of that odd change in tone her final line was delivered with."
>"We'll keep in touch, Forty Five."
>>"Have a great day, everyone!"
*click*

"So... Subsidy? What exactly is our role in all of this? Are we commissioners or something? Or did we need to research something?"
>"Well, YOU just need to oversee things, but everypony else in your development team is researching the creature itself. The investors are just there to pay for the project. Now THIS time you get to pick for sure!"
>>
>>29496601
Ok. All that's left is the Fourth Division and Redd and Associates. Now. We all know that the last two investors will be the most, "shady" of our investors. If we're aiming for the canterlot+dragon+mining ones then the private military corp. will be keenly invest. Question is, do we want anything to do with them? I'm not say they're evil or anything but, well I have my doubts about private military corps.

We can certainly try. But no guarantees, and certainly not an alicorn, it'd take a miracle to get that kind of genetic sample...but I think we can make do with a tiara.
