As a live example, see TF2. I joined it about 2 years ago, that was about the time the economy finally went to shit and trading became a shitfest. I managed to get a decent starting inventory in like a month before one of the currencies basically crashed.

The last good update was released like 3 months before I joined. Every single update since then was extremely hyped and ended up extremely disappointing. The community is pretty toxic, especially if you're just a new player trying to get around. The new escrow stuff valve introduced basically killed trading as far as I can see - what remains is a mockery of the old market.
The competitive update was botched, quickplay (the most used way to play the game) was replaced with a horribly broken "casual" mode that was only more or less patched up months later, there's no proper matchmaking to speak of in this casual mode and nobody plays competitive anymore.

Old famous players are quitting TF2, famous youtubers are quitting or have quit ages ago, in-game content creation was always a small scene but it's now basically dead.

All of that has been happening over the last two years. And yet, while the game has slipped from its consistent #3 spot on steam play stats, it still holds on to the top 5 most of the time, Valve still makes a ton of money for it, and they're still hyping the next shit update that will have no effort put in but will generate enough attention to prolong the lifespan of the game just that much.

There are other factors for this chart. For example posting drops significantly on average in late 2013, because Moot DOUBLED the posting delays between post here, which slowed down a lot of story time threads we had. We also had way, WAY more shitposting.

Your math is wrong. If you look from around 2014, the average was around 15000 post per day. Three years later, we're half that posting (which is still very decent for a niche board mind you), so you can expect a similar droprate, assuming we have continuous season. I assume it'll die earlier with the show ending, but might pick up some steam if the movie is actually good.
