Personally I liked it for it's simplicity and genuine funny moments.

I've noticed that the new staff share the same weakness as the comic cast: whenever they try to do "deep" or serious stuff they fuck up, but when they go for light comedy they tend to hit it right.

Saddle Row Review didn't feel like a S1-S2 episode at all, people liked it because it was something both original and that was well done for a change.
Those of us who liked Buckball Season liked it because it was simple, without any forced conflict and mostly warming, exactly like a S1-S2 episode, and quite the opposite of pretty much half S6 episodes.
