(just in case you didn't see this) I made a gif of how to build a pony face. I can give you a still image too but I feel like it's important to see all the layers
>>29335692
thanks this is really helpful. if its not too much trouble could you post each layer side-by-side in a still?
>tfw you can't git gud because of all the shid you have to do
>>29330122
It's really hard to get both the tapering and the thickness right.
>>29335709
that sucks but why did you post an isis wojack?
>>29335732
this is the best one so far. but the rump is a little too raised and the front leg is still a wee bit thin
teach me how to draw chubby pony thighs
>>29335707
Sure thing, friendo
>>29335709
As long as you have an hour or so to draw each day, you can still make process, anon.
>>29335709
Find the time. Draw while taking a shit if you have to.
>>29335890
nice
A horse is a horse.
>>29335732
I'm still learning but this is the way I'm drawing and thinking of hooves.
It's a good idea to first put down the construction sketch for the pony legs and then fill in the rest, that's what the sketch is for in the first place.
I hope this somewhat helps, and if there's something wrong with it anypony, feel free to tell me
>>29337350
Hrmm, unfortunately I don't agree with your study. I know everyone has their own ways, but you're missing a few joints in the leg. Can you draw me a couple arms that are bent (anything but straight)?
>>29337729
Yeah, I know. I exluded the shoulder join and the pelvis and I simplified the front leg into a single joint (you can see that it is in a different part of the leg in those two red examples). I just use a construction circle for the "hardpoint" I'm also aware that I'm missing the end of the bone right before the hoove on both legs. What I drew was a simplified version just to show how to deal with the correct tapering on the legs.
I wanted this anon >>29335732 to understand, that you don't need to drive the legs as a single "thing" but rather define the main points of the leg and then interpolate the skin and muscle around it!
ofc if you think there is actually something elementary wrong with this explanation I'm listening.
>>29337792
Mostly, your arms and legs aren't thicc enough. I didn't know you were helping him because I'm tired and didn't realize there was a quote thinger.
>>29337814
Nah, It's fine. I'm fine with any /ic/ i get. I'll check my thickness with references to correct it next time.
>>29337819
There's always the pony imgur gallery up at the top. That's how I learned how to draw pones
Looking for feedback on this 20x20 pony sprite.
Previous version: >>29335211
I kept the head and redrew the body. I think the back leg is better now but I'm not so sure about the front one.
>>29338441
For what do you even need so small pixel poni?
>>29338685
Making a game with retro-style graphics. 16px is still a pretty common size to use for pixel art. Terraria and Stardew Valley character sprites are both 16px wide, for example.
I've got some nice 16px tilesets I'd like to use for the game world, but I didn't think I could fit a pony into 16px of width, so I went with 20 instead. That means characters will sometimes overlap with walls and such by a pixel or two, but I think it will still look okay.
>>29338794
So if you go with 20x20 with character if head could be a little bit higher it might look better. I see there are some free pixels to go higher.
But if it will overlap with ceilings or something it's obviously bad idea.
>>29338875
Oh 20 width... I missed that part.
Well.. It's hard to make poni so small
>>29338875
>>29338881
I'll try moving the head up a bit. I am trying to keep it down to 20x20 (including space for equipment, particularly hats), but I think it could go a little higher, up to maybe 20x24, before I run into any problems.
I'm working on >>29323697
It still needs a lot of rendering, but how are general proportions looking so far?
>>29339660
The neck is maybe a bit long, but overall it's okay
>>29339910
OK, thanks for feedback!
>>29339660
Fluffy her hair, I guess.
draw more, anon
>>29341626
10/10
>>29341626
I just finished drawing a bunch of stuff
>>29311002
Hopefully this looks better. I drew the hooves first, and then the skeleton, and then the front of the leg (except for the back leg, where I drew the back stroke before the skeleton).
>>29342131
Better by a factor of 10 my dude. Hooves really helped
>>29342131
Oh man you're learning, I'm real happy. Keep it up and try a new pose maybe?
bump
Gods, I can't find a good way to start drawing a page a day.
Quick /mlp/, give me ways to get motivation up and running.
>>29343760
Here you go anon. This is the best motivator.
>>29343760
>give me ways to get motivation up and running.
Meth always does the trick for me.The key is not to think about it, just do it and motivation will find it's way in on it's own. Sounds silly, but it works.
>>29343954
It doesn't help that those are digitally done and edited.
A friend convinced me to draw a page a day and ive seen some decent improvements considering my first page was a fucking mess
My latest ones still a fucking mess, but what im drawing does look a good bit more horse so im satisfied desu

>Meth always does the trick for me.
LOOK AT ME. BUSY AS A BEE. WHERE'D I GET ALL THIS ENERGY? OOOHH METH. MM-MMM METH!
>>29344570
That's why I changed to Modafinil.
When I draw stuff characters are almost always faced right. And when I try do draw directly to face left I produce abominations. I always switch sides if I want something face left. Is it because I am right handed? Do you have similiar problem? As long as it is in digital it's not a problem, but on paper it's immposible to switch sides.
>>29343760
If you only draw when you're motivated then you're going to struggle.
>>29344877
I used to think handedness had something to do with it but you're just not practicing it enough. Turn-arounds are a tricky thing. Just keep working at it. There's a high chance that you're practicing facing one way more than the other because you're used to it and it's easier. Facing a character from left to right are two entirely different drawings. Think of it like that.
posting a wip of me trying to understand values before I go to bed. not caring much about perspectives for now, just wanna get a good grasp on the concept of light vs. shade. any tips on the topic are welcome. cheers and good night y'all
>>29345303
If you're trying to learn about showing FORM through values, then you probably would learn more by spending your day drawing only fluttershy, with more values, rather than whole scene.
If you're trying to understand how to cast shadows and where to put your terminator (border between lightened and darkened part), then you can't ignore perspective: you need it to find sections of your forms and correctly estimate direction of rays of light. Read "How To Render" by Scott Robertson; pic related.
>>29335679
There's no need to render perfectly all the bones of a horse. Simplify the shapes so you easily remember them then practice sketching them from any position.
I pity the fool that spends hours and hours trying to perfectly render all the bones with the names.
>>29342131
>He's getting good, really fast.
And you reading this doing nothing.
Yo'ure lazy. Go draw, anon.
>>29346553
>I pity the fool that spends hours and hours trying to perfectly render
Post your art.
>>29347258
You first.
>>29347148
Thanks, now I feel bad about myself again...
>>29343954
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
>>29347638
Why aren't you with your pencil doing sketches?
>>29342585
I wanted to make sure I could draw the whole leg bones-first before moving on. What pose would you suggest?
>>29349047
3/4 standing I guess?
>>29349071
Would it be better to do a new pose or a new angle next?
>>29349090
Either but not both.
>>29346553
Oh boy another faggot who knows better than everyone else but instead of just giving the tip and leaving, decides to leave a "i'm better than you" type of comment.
Just fuck off.
>>29348715
that cutie mark is way past cool
>>29350080
So far past it wraps around into cold territory.
>>29349179
>Not getting the reference
>Everything is a personal offense against me
Wow, you must be a joy to be around IRL, sucka.
anyone have that OP pic with Twilight and Ponk from threads ago?
>>29350852
This with perspective?
>>29350861
yes with a picture
>>29350861
>>29350926
I did research for you. And I found it. Hacker Life.
Hope it's what you were looking for.
