Ignoring the fact that sentence is quite borked, I would have to disagree. I see no reason why people wouldn't pay her to take care of animals.

Think about it, Fluttershy seems to have a way with animals that no other pony shares, at least not one we've seen. If nothing else it would make her great at kenneling animals while their owners are away and just for general stuff like grooming and the like, or even training animals for them. Trade Ya has a great example of the training thing specifically.

Sure, some ponies won't pay her directly, I'm sure, but even then they'll probably end up paying her with favors down the line that help her stay afloat. Even if only a small percentage of the people she deals with actually giver he bits for it those kind of services aren't cheap and favors can go a long way.

Not only is she useful for pets, but also for dealing with wild animals too. Look at Return of Harmony where she was dealing with the beavers for a great example. Yea, in that example she's doing it for AJ, so it's questionable as to whether or not she would have received payment for that, but her ability to pacific and deal with wild animals on the spot would make her very valuable in both the private and public sectors. Hell, I wouldn't be suprised if the town doesn't have some sort of agreement going with her, rendering either payment or tax cuts for dealing with whatever animal decides to pop up and make a nuisance of itself.

So yea, I would be very surprised if she didn't make quite a bit on her own. Enough at least to take care of her expenses and the expenses of her animals with a pretty sack of bits to spare.
