I remember reading a thread in another forum years ago that had people arguing over who would win between the Flood from Halo and the Thing, since both are capable of bioassimilation. In the end the arguing went nowhere since both entities did the exact same thing. I believe the same applies here.

The flood on the other hand have a surprisingly limited assimilation method, requiring specific spore organisms to infect its prey; You're not going to be infected by a warrior just hitting you, it has to be a spore organism infesting you, the others aren't biologically evolved to do that.

Additionally, the flood infestation requires a certain type of biological requirements to infest-- a species MUST have a definite central nervous system or its unable to be infested (though it can still have its biomass converted into flood flesh, essentially being "eaten" instead of infested). An example here is that hunters are immune to flood infestation because they have no central nervous system themselves.

If you are hit by any class of flood the cells and spores left behind from the strike will eventually mutate your body. as for hunters they can be infected by flood its just that the "being" is actually a collection of smaller snake and wormlike creatures. Individually they can be infected and changed but they will lose the coordination they would have had naturally.

Also the Flood absorb the memories of the being they have infected these memories are what helps produce a gravemind.

You mean a camp of less than 30 people that have not has any experience with it before? The gravemind wasn't just controlling a single body, with was the hivemind behind every single flood cell on the ring (or whichever location you are referring to). It was also creating escape plans, collecting more biomass, learning about the systems of foreign technology, creating battle strategies, and searching for new locations to infest.

The thing did none of this, all it did was hide and take out scientists one by one. SCIENTISTS not super-soldiers, not battle hardened alien zealots, not a space faring navy. none of that.
