Why are most of the Octavia fics so dark and depressing? Most of what I have read over the last few months, or listened to, has been tragic, edgy, or just sad. There are some happier stories, but even SirGreensAlot's Anon has lost a hand. That, to a musician, is tragic in its self. i'm not complaining Sir. Love your green Anyhow, guess what I'm gettting at is this: is this the Tavi that you, as readers, like? Do you want dark and depressing? Am I missing something about Octavia's personality? She doesn't really have one in the show so I wonder if we are just projecting ourselves onto an empty character and making her the way we want. I think she would fit perfectly in a nice, classy, comfy romance story that ends with 'happily ever after'. But you don't see that much.

It's because she's one of the few serious, no nonsense characters in a world where everyone is happy, friendly and fun. And unlike, say, Mrs Harshwhinny, her seriousness isn't treated like a joke. She's the straight mare who'd rather practice music than interact with others. She's the loner in the corner in a world where friendship is magic. Even her design shows this; while everything else is bright pastel, she's entirely grey and black.

This just lends Octavia well to darker, sadder stories. Even her job as a musician carries the whole 'suffering artist' vibe. Add on the fact that she's out of place in both her profession and class (not a unicorn,) it's inevitable that people would envision her as being unhappy with her life, or at least out of the ordinary saccharine atmosphere of the setting.

That's my thoughts, at least. I like it though, so there's no real issue here for me. I like a stoic lady who opens up to her friends.

Does anyone have that story where Octavia rapes Anon in an alley? Have we found that yet?

I'm the opposite. Bravest Face hit very close to home with me. I was married to a crack addict for 5 years and it was a lot like that. She would come home after a trip and as soon as she walked through the door i could smell it. I instantly knew what was coming. I really felt this anons pain. Only difference was i want strong enough to stay and try to fix it.
Love What You Can was good but it didn't have the impact that Bravest Face did. No fanfic has had an impact on me like that one did, and that's why i love it so much i guess.
