>>29264131
I'm under the impression that the farm at one point didn't have very good water pressure. This meant opening each single one would allow the water to get there. Then, as the pressure improved, she simply kept the prior ones open to prevent too much pressure to the farthest ones.
Regardless, she should had taken a step back and re-evaluated things to then realize that opening all of them at once would be the most efficient and effective way.

Well, sir. As I mentioned in my early post, there's two common methods of making PVC and one of them does not directly require crude oil, you'll only need to form ethylene from cracking natural gas liquids, including petroleum gas liquid derived from ethane & propane.
So yeah, no need for large scale extractions of crude oil.Better run back to Sethisto, now.

>>29268214
>PVC/Plastic is times more expensive than metal and the all benefits for this specific scenario are minimal
Not true, PVC is not many more expensive than metal, specially not steel which is what the pipe in OP's image looks like. Also, the specific benefit in not minimal either, if we are talking about price, weight, durability and insulation efficiency (specially consider I was responding to someone who thought metal pipes would be a good way to insulate the water against freezing temperatures) PVC wins in every category, if we factor in rust. There's a reason most irrigation systems use plastic, buddy.
>>I thought in the usa kids had more comprehensive science classes in elementary school, advanced enough at least to cover the existence of brass; you know, the thing pipes are usually made of so they don't rust.
You must be blind if you think that looks like brass.
>>You're retarded. Adding anything below or on top of an insulator is not going to change the insulating properties of said insulator.
No, but it'll certainly change the temperate the insulating layer will meet. A PVC pipe with an insulated layer will insulate better than a Steel pipe with an insulating layer inside of it. Logic 101.
Anything else?
>>29268471
>PVC is not many more expensive than meta
Please, learn to talk
> specially not steel which is what the pipe in OP's image looks like.
>to my untrained eye it looks like steel, therefore it is steel.
Please, learn to think
>Price
PVC is more expensive than most metals, if you buy a large quantity of pvc you are spending a lot more money than if you bough a large quantity of metal, learn to read.
>Durability
You have a pipeline that is going to sit on the ground carrying water, lets say the material they are using lasts 120 years and pvc lasts 150, you're going to most likely scrap it down for any other reason (valves breaking, soil changing, farm moving away, etc.) after 80 years anyway so there's no point.
> insulation efficiency
>if we factor in rust
>consider I was responding to someone who thought metal pipes would be a good way to insulate the water
Null point, we already addressed that part, if you are using a proper insulator between the pipes it doesn't matter what the pipes are made off; there's also thousands of ways to prevent steel from rusting; paint, galvanization, special treatments, electric current, etc.
>Weight
You're not going to be carrying them around anywhere, again, learn to read.
>You must be blind if you think that looks like brass.
>What is paint?
For all we know it could indeed be plastic modeled to look like metal.
>A PVC pipe with an insulated layer will insulate better than a Steel pipe with an insulating layer inside of it. Logic 101.
>moving goalpost
If you hold a cable carrying a strong electric current, and you use rubber gloves, does it really matter if you put 2 pairs of rubber gloves on top? does it really make a difference if you put a towel around the cable below your hands? or even, a steel plate?
No, it doesn't, you're already protected as much as you need, adding more resistors will increase your protection but you're only wasting money on materials.
>>29268471
>There's a reason most irrigation systems use plastic, buddy.

I think equestrian pipes have some insulating enchantment of some sort.
the spa pipes weren't insulated either and touching a steam pipe would cause a second degree burn. they ran all over the spa and no one worried about bumping into one.
I just think that ponies are not good at pluming because the animators are animators and not plummers.
There were a lot of pipes left over from the war and she was just putting them to good use.
>>29267641
they could though eventually.
PVC is Polyvinyl Chloride, a polymer formed with vinyl.
they have vinyl and we have seen it in the form of records
>>29268591
1- Plastic is still cheaper than Metal
2- You need a lot less plastic to make things compared to Metal
3- Metal pipes are known to burst due to freezing temperatures, this is not true for plastic pipes
4- Plastic weight less than metal, which matters if there's a necessity to replace pieces or transport it somewhere else. It also reduces the costs of transportation.
5- Metals corrode, plastic does not
6- Plastic pipes insulating properties is better for both transporting cold water and hot water, as there is less loss/gain of temperature which adds a great level of control that can be useful depending on the type of plant is being watered, as their needs might vary.
>>to my untrained eye it looks like brass, therefore it is brass, although it clearly looks like iron/steel
>>Wasting money fucking painting pipes for the lolz which adds unnecessary additional costs
>>It is far more logical to use a metal pipe with an insulating layer inside it cost wise than a mere plastic tube which has no need for it, since it has superior insulating capabilities to begin with and does not need to be treated to about getting oxidized.

>>29268756
>1- Plastic is still cheaper than Metal
We don't know this. There's an abundance of natural metals and gemstones throughout the land, but no clear indication of an oil economy of any kind. Plastic could be quite costly in Equestria simply because it's rare
>>29268756
>3- Metal pipes are known to burst due to freezing temperatures, this is not true for plastic pipes

>>29268862

>>29268853
PVC is often used in drainage, and drainage pipes don't constantly hold water.
the (hopefully) copper water pipes in your walls constantly hold water therefore they can freeze and will freeze more often.
That is why plastic pipe freeze damage may be so rare.
Also running water doesn't freeze as easy, regardless of what pipe it is in.
>>29268815
Well, as that other Anon smartly pointed out, we've seen Vinyl records being played by DJ Pon3 in the show before. Which means both crude out, cracking and other polymer technologies have been develop and are in use in Equestria, which indicates some sort of oil based economy, although we do not know to what extend.
One can easily assume that if making Polyvinyl resin by processing Ethylene and chlorine is cost effective enough to have a market of vinyl records, then PVC pipes are truly not far off.
>>29268883
It doesn't change the fact that an irrigation system located in a geographical location where we know temperatures drop to freezing points that is made out of plastic is simply superior to one made out of metal, even if the later has an insulating layer inside. Consider that an irrigation system will hold some water at some point.
Also, irrigation systems have different goals than draining systems. Good temperature control of the water you're plants are receiving is a great thing. Guess which material will maintain the heat better?

>>29268891
Possibly but it doesn't seem like Equestria has wide spread industrialization to allow for plastic processing to the point of being cheaper than metal. Just because they can make it does not mean there is a large enough manufacturing and production base to be competitive. We see widespread use of metals but not plastics. We see vinyl records but those existed in America long before we had pvc replacing metal piping.
Not saying you are wrong but you haven't really presented any evidence that plastic has any kind of economy of scale to be a viable alternative to metal use.

The big problem is that AJ at face value is "boring".
She is established, level headed, family and business focused, skilled, and rarely prone to outlandish reactive behavior.
Making episodes that are AJ focused is difficult for the current writing staff because she doesn't encounter the same kind of character flaws that set up the other girls for problem situations beyond being stubborn.
So they arbitrarily make her pants-on-head retard for an episode to create a "problem" to be resolved and then never touch on this supposed "flaw" ever again so she goes back to being the boring level support character.
We had to deal with the retarded Pinky phase too because the writers had no clue what they wanted to do with her.

AJ is my favorite character precisely because she's the most practical and functional one out of the group save for the odd "Applejack is inexplicably dumb for no reason" episode. (That and being a buff, hardworking green eyed farm girl who is probably into rope play.)
It just makes her difficult to write about with the show's style of problems because she is more grounded compared to some other characters and the writers just take the easy way out.
I'd rather take the "boring" character and have her play a support role than play her OOC just to have a AJ centric episode.
