Who built the railroads?
chinks and irish
>>29255331
enslaved Zebras, they sang songs while doing so too.
>>29255331slaves zebras
>>29255340
In all honesty, the Irish were lazy fuckers.
>>29255366
Damn, you mean you were actually there when they built the railroads?
>>29255331
Nobody knows.
They've been there since before the ponies settled in Equestria, all ponies did was build the trains. Some ponies claim that the tracks change at times, or seem longer or shorter than they should be, but these are dismissed as baseless rumours.
>>29255331
zebras
I don't know; the ponies did it
what really confuses me is scenes like pic related. the large circular part is the boiler and it appears as wide if not wider than the axles. the axles are wider than the frame which is as wide as the cab. the boiler, which is as wide as the axles, if not more, is smaller than the cab. this breaks geometry
also the engine in the picture is de-railed sitting above upside down track. just look where the wheels are
>>29255494
it's meant to be toyetic not realistic
more importantly, who invented the steam engine
surely they're not that technologically advanced
>>29255548
their technology level is all over the place. they have dirt roads and straw roofs, but they also have a hydro-electric dam, heart rate monitors and x-rays, and some plastics including record vinyl.
>>29255331
I did
>>29255548
Did you forget they have electricity?
>>29255613
electricity is not a big deal
pretty sure the pegasi have found a way to harvest it from lightning clouds
>>29255331
pones
>>29255662
LIES!!!!
>>29255587
They have had a completely different history than humans. Who says that they can't event dams before dirt roads? Magic? Maybe they don't care about paving roads?
>>29255548
Dude they have fucking DJ booths and arcade machines. They are technologically advanced.
>>29255587
Maybe the record vinyls and x-rays are powered by magic?
>>29255691
by vinyl, I was referring to the material. vinyl is a synthetic plastic, so the ponies have some understanding of making synthetic plastics
>>29255686
And yet they still "use" spears.
>>29255736
Well technological advancement isn't like some Civ game, you know.
>>29255736
magic is probably their solution. they would want to deus ex macina, un-fuck the situation, in a bloodless guiltless manor. I'm not sure a pony could kill with a conventional weapon, seeing their enemy's blood and watching them die, and then living with themselves. they just seem too innocent
>>29255626
>pretty sure the pegasi have found a way to harvest it from lightning clouds
They did, remember that one time Rainbow Dash practiced domestic terrorism?
>>29256088
Dubs confirm Rainbow as a domestic terrorist
>>29255331
It's always been my assumption that the railroads were Equestria's biggest technological and infrastructural achievement so far.
>>29255548
There's kind of three levels of tech in the show.
There's the village tech level, which is basically minimal industry, minimal electricity, everything done by hand, steam engines at best.
Life is pastoral - kings and queens rule over nations made mostly of towns who farm food and build their own stuff.
This is basically the tech level usually shown around Ponyville and seems to be common among villages - better tech is available but noone is too hurried to adopt it.
The writers prefer to stay at this tech level unless otherwise necessary.
There's city tech level, where more advanced tech is used in cities or in plots about modernity (for example most of Rarity's fashion work is based around papparazi and more modern things about celebrity), and for any plots that are about more modern stuff. The hydro dam, city conveniences, elevators the cider maker machine, applejack working in a cannery etc.
This tech level seems to be around the early 1900s. Electricity, automobiles and production line manufacturing are a thing but only at the early stages of adoption. Notably absent are radios and other forms of long distance communication, which would be plot breaking.
Sometimes they do super advanced stuff on this tech level using a steampunkesque kind of handwave. Pinkie's pedal gyro and the turtle's magical flying propeller are examples of this.
Then there is gag tech level which the writers just put in high tech stuff for a specific gag / rule of cool. These things won't actually be a common or consistent part of the setting.
So this is stuff like smoke machines, arcade games, high tech amps, trucks etc.
I wouldn't bother to analyse this level too much because its just basically authors having fun.
>>29256814
Or tl:dr
What is the tech level?
Advanced enough to be able to have episodes about modern problems you'd face in a developed society, but not adopted enough to have the main location be an ideallic pastoral community. .
>>29255494
I don't understand anything you said.
>>29255331
I'm Spartacus
>MFW people try to over-analyze a children's cartoon
>>29255809
That what I implied
>>29255848
>magic is probably their solution. they would want to deus ex macina
We never saw guards using magic neither did we ever saw battlemages
>un-fuck the situation, in a bloodless guiltless manor
Remember "What if" Sombra scenario?
>>29255331
We did.
>>29226143
>>29255494
Lol why even try to replicate a steam engine if your just gonna be sloppy with the delivery of that motion
>>29255331
It better not be government.
>>29255366
t. really really oldfag i guess
>>29255331
Twilight is fucking adorable, I want to lock my self up in a room with her and just sit there cuddling and fucking Twiggles until we die of starvation.
>>29255626
Thy also have hydroelectric dams.
>>29257677
How do you know that's not hydromagic?
>>29257828
It produces magic? If that's the case, where does the magic come from? The water?
>>29255331
The Ancient Ones.
>>29255331
Magic, you asshats.
>>29255331
The Chineighs.
>>29257828
there was some other evidence of a basic power grid.
In that one episode where Rarity and Applejack had a sleepover at Twilight's Tree-Library, I think i remember the power going out.
now I need to re-watch that.
>>29258333
just checked, and I'm wrong.
the power never went out.
Maybe I'm thinking of a different episode.
It could be a "Magic grid" though
>>29255736
Spears are a much more viable choice of weapon when your soldiers can fly and use telekinesis.
>>29257103
>>29257228
The railroads are private and funded by oil barons in libertarian Equestria.
>>29258450
Spears and recurve bows are the best mideval weapons.
