I remember watching Story of the Blanks, Luna Games, Super Filly Adventure, and Smile(dot)exe all on YouTube during the early days of the fandom. They were interesting at the time.

Obviously not the most complicated thing in long-term retrospect, but frankly for - what, a single person project? It was pretty damn impressive. The abrupt tonal shift from "man, there's something off here but I'm just not sure what" to "holy shit, they burned a pony to death!" to "fucking zombies?" worked - against all odds, really; it shouldn't work, but the completeness of the shift really sold it.

Felt like a happier time, when we were really just exploring how far we could take projects.

It really deserves more love, I think - it's the first "creepypasta" type pony project I remember seeing, and I think it did a great job of building up the tension before the reveal comes and everything goes straight to hell.

Story of the blanks had a lot of potential for an extended game. A real artistic melancholic gameabout exploring the forest and mourning applebloom's parents.

This was huge back in the day. I really wonder why that this didn't have a huge subfandom attached with stories with it. Then again that would be for the best too.

Semi-related there's a game called Pinkamena on the Android play store which is kind of pony horror, it's like a single-player Town of Salem. Bit buggy but it's playable and it still gets an update now and then.

I mean, it had a fair bit. There is a full comic adaption of the story, at least three attempts at writing the story, a couple of awful soundtrack remixes on youtube that of course vanished... and that's just related to SotB itself. There were a good number of ask-X tumblrs that popped up with characters from it - at least 2 of them were blankified AB - and a metric fuckton of fanwork.

But like >>29257247 said, the creator had his fun and never really expanded it. I think he was - as much of the fandom was at that point - really just testing how far they could go with pone media. Lack of followup murdered the following.
