It had been far too easy to slip away from everyone.

It stung a bit, if he was being honest, how simple it was to head over to his club's meeting room, grab his favorite hoverbike, and head out over the open plain of Equestria. A part of him knew he should have made the simple effort to find Twilight and the others, to inform them of his call and what he knew and where he was going, but another part knew something else. Something he'd thought about, for quite a long time.

How long it had been, since he'd finally done what he'd sworn over and over he would do.

So instead he flew, as fast as the bike would carry him towards his end destination, and what awaited him.

Past trees, past hills, past mountains, and past plains into the barren desert that felt so familiar even after all these years. The plain that still had that arid and dry stench of sand and dust that had wafted through the highwinds filtration systems as they flew towards it, and the sting of the light in his eyes that shined brighter here than in all of Equestria combined.

He remembered this place, he doubted he would ever forget it if he were to be honest. He remembered the plateau in the distance with vivid life, even if it now lacked the hovering metal menace above it that it had once held. No, those remains now lie down below, mostly stripped by the force of the internal explosions as it fell, and the dead husk stripped by scavengers for every piece of worth that could be found.

The metal monstrosity lay dormant down below, little more than picked bones of a once grand and amazing weapon that had nearly brought ruin to Equestria. The airship of the former Prince Blueblood, lay dead, and all his ambitions with it.

He still felt a rush when he saw it, remembering the grand battles, the daring near death moments, even the feeling of when he had shot a pearly white horn clear off the prince's head. He felt that rush, vivid as the day he pulled the trigger.

He missed it.

The battle Forty Two held, either in spirit or in presence, had long since been surpassed by her defense of those she loved, and the war she had fought alone.

For all she doubtlessly accomplished on this day, to compare this to Diamond Tiara's later accomplishments, the most spectacular of which was joining to nearly bring the Titan down, permanently, the first time of any living soul.

And whatever grand feat she pulled off in these walls, Spike doubted that any even came close to what Twilight had done more times than he could count on both claws combined. To her, this was just another day saving the world.

Most all of them, in some manner, had left this day behind as a grand, but not the grandest, day of their lives.

The dragon found himself struggling to do the same, no matter how long he pondered it. He'd accomplished other things since then, of course, but he'd never felt as grand, as big and important as he had this day. Not even saving the Empire had come anywhere close. That day, and only that day, had ever been when he'd truly felt like a hero.

It was the most accomplished day of his life.

"That was fast."

And, he knew, he was not the only one.

Seven, known on this day as what the rest of the team believed to be Forty Two, had never achieved as much as he had this day.

This had been the moment when he had fought on the side of good, and been a hero.

Now, he'd lost so much of that luster, looking much weaker and much smaller than he'd ever before.

He's clearly building resources, planning, and confronting big bads when everyone else is off doing whatever. He's literally embodying everything the A-team said it was meant to do, a strike team to go stop those who slipped beneath the princess's gaze off the grid, so that it couldn't be traced back to them.

He's given his Queen plausible deniability by not telling her, but he apparently has a substantial enough forces to completely match a technologically advanced opponent at a second's notice. He's the one gathering intel, getting to the truth, and amassing an army while everyone else is having a cutie cenera.

I think you're mixing up how he seems from previous actions, he's the guy who, no matter how much he wanted to, couldn't bring himself to actually kill anyone even when put in a situation where he was allowed to and it wouldn't come back to bite him. He's driven, but he's never shown he's willing to go as far as Sunset or Chitty have, Sunset's willing to tell Chitania to set Caddy on fire to force Chrysalis to jump, but 7 wouldn't even let the chaos grab Celestia to fulfill his one mission.

Thanks, it helps that I've spent time working around anatomical roadblocks during other road blocks. Like designing combat armor that can be worn by pegasi while keeping the wings in mind and protecting them when at rest. Wings and the openings they come from are the biggest weak point on a pegasi soldier. Its was tricky, but i got it, the only issue with Spike's hat was designing something visually appealing.

I think you're half right, Chitty does understand a lot of aspects about her that nobody else does, or even could. Sunsets inner scheming and problems isn't something AJ would understand personally, she's too wholesome and honest.

But I think you're wrong that she actually understand what those dark portions mean to Sunset, and what they could mean for everyone festering and growing as they are. Chitty has her goal square in her vision, she doesn't see what's growing in Sunny, or worse, she knows but thinks it irrelevant compared to her own goal being achieved.

Construction was going slow, but steady. The tower was not all encompassing, but it was high. The black monolith was not as wide as the city beyond it, but it was massive. Her changelings were not instant, but they were quick.

She very nearly had her kingdom, as she had proclaimed not so very long ago. She very nearly had her hoofhold in power, as she had wished on that day. Her might was growing, her power was growing, and with every drop of love she hoarded, she gained more might, and more strength.

But so did her influence grow.

It hit her, with all the massive weight her new castle was gaining and then some, that she would soon have to make her move on the global scale, to make her presence known not as a visitor, but a ruler. She was going to have to step out, and make sure everyone knew what she was capable of, and what she intended to do.

Her kingdom, and all the influence with it, would soon be finished, and the changelings would finally grow. She had not hidden, she had not shied away, even as the threats around her grew, and now her kingdom had come.
