I think that Luna is a very good princess if not the best because her personality relates to many on a deep level, how her sister overshadows her much, which lead to her becoming so jealous that made her Nightmare Moon (which itself is a very interesting story-line). Her transformation is something she constantly fights with which people can relate to on regretting past decisions, even to the point of self-harm (the Tantabus).

I also believe that Luna is just cute, especially in Luna Eclipsed (which remains my favorite episode) as she tries to fit back into society. She also seems more of the intelligent cute type of pony, not nerdy like Twilight (which has nothing wrong with it), but still wise enough to know her limits and when to stop. She is also very caring with how others perceive her and will go to great strides to amend relationships.

Personally Luna is my favorite simply because a mixture of her intelligence, wisdom, experience and cute factor just out-weigh the others in my opinion.

Literally Jobber Horse of Exposition: the Princess. Was fun to speculate how amazing and insightful she could be up until S2 and onwards. Has very little character beyond being an authoritative figure in magical horse land who likes to have a spot of fun every now and then amid a supposedly boring job.

Not so bad, actually can see her put in work. Problem was that most of her episodes were still centered about her getting over past when she's the focus, but its been resolved fairly well.

Literally toy-tier meme Princess with an incredibly flat personality. The true Herald of the End and who's existence and status were all from executive meddling.
Has very little screentime and I hope they keep it that way, because any attempt at making her interesting as a secondary character have failed.

Literally damaged her with the shitty explanation of MUH DESTINY and with one of the shittiest 2 parters we've ever seen. Her princesshood either means nothing in a number of episodes or is a big enough focus to sideline everyone else. She's also going the way of Celestia and becoming less relevant while Glimmer takes to the fore.

I guess Luna would be the better case among these, but we could really do without most of the others.

Every time I see a Luna episode, she whines about how evil she was, or how she was always overshadowed by her sister, or how she tried to hurt everyone. In terms of the show, she only got over it recently, but lo and behold, the season 6 finale had her pointing out how evil she was yet again, to Glimmer.

Yes, she is legitimately self centered and prone to emotional decision making. There's proof of this in her debut in Luna Eclipsed when she tries to ban the holiday because, SHOCKER, ponies were afraid of her for what she did.

Face it, the writers aren't good at doing reformed villains and Luna is the biggest one in the show.

I never said she was a good character, I'm glad she has no episodes and very little character, it means the writers won't screw her up like they screwed Luna up.

Luna's only conflict is internal, and instead of making her seek redemption and focus on the obstacles that represents, they made her angsty. Don't say the Tantabus episode either, that was more about her catching it so she could beat herself up some more.

As for Celestia, she's either a scumbag or a saint for tossing other ponies at problems instead of dealing with them herself, it depends on your perspective, really.

Twiggles is as much a sociopath as Glimmer and still believes friendship is something one can learn in the manner of a spell from a book and pretty much spent her entire princesshood saving face and running damage control when showed up by her lessers. See Thorax's introduction for the best example.

Cadence was nothing more than a plot device.
