I write characters who should be great at what they do and not fall into it.


A jive talking zony unicorn who had to learn to be fast with his mouth to be a good slaver.

A bunch of Talons good at fighting.

A pegasus who has a CM in geology and is good at mining.

A doctor and psychologist unicorn who mirrors somebody I know.

I find the original fairly easy to avoid actually other than certain acknowledgements of larger events. Its not that people need to touch it, its that they think it is all there is to the wasteland. Like playing only Fallout 1 and that map space, only to find in 2 its quite a good bit less.

I think as part of this, the better fics are the ones that barely acknowledge the events of the original, mostly just the idea of the Enclave invading everywhere. Having to meet or see Pip makes little sense as she is one of many repeated ponies by Spike's own admission. Pip has happened before, but never at the right time in the sequence to get the EOH. THus, there is no reason to focus on Pip as being special, she just simply cam when the red and grey lensmen were in the right times. 1920s literature reference!

Here for Outlaw, its rather notable as its literally just a "Oh Pipspiration. And now I flee the area forever." At least meeting with Gawd has the use of being an actual networked contact, something that would be reasonable to meet int eh local area after Pip puts her in charge, or the other one before then since he had more power.

Heroes does this really well, No One doesn't so much fuck off as not even bother. It takes all the parts and uses them, but without caring for Pip until storywise appropriate with her actions having massive ramifications for Equestria.

PH does almost the same until it just fucks up. But that is expected really.

Anywhere but here did a good cameo job. Mercs should be hired to go after Pip and it makes sense because they stay in the same area as the gang.

Understand the story started only 3 months after FoE ended, and I thought I had the chops to do the whole shebang without an editor. Lots of people were doing it that way and at the time I thought it would be poignant to include some symbolism without thinking that it would be pointless if I was the only one who would notice it.

Five years ago I thought Mach seeing Pip and defecting was a clever way to symbolize FoE's impact on me and my urge to create a story within the universe. Hindsight is 20/20 as everyone knows and now I realize it was a terrible idea.

It used to be there were just mercs like us going around, and now suddenly there’s all these vigilantes everywhere.” A sudden explosion and dense column of black smoke rose from where the Steel Rangers were fighting a dug in position of raiders. Machine guns held their own conversation, the topics too many calibers to be stopped by mere pony minds. “I mean, what got them all riled up so much over the last 2 months? Used to be everyone was too scared to even clean their houses, much less go outside and start actually fighting.”
“Heh, could be worse. They could actually be building settlements and making people safer. Then we’d be put of a job.” The griffon chortled, claws going to his breastplate as he rolled over and destroyed any sense of camouflage he had.

“You know, maybe that is what your illustrious heroes need.” The griffon clacked his beak for emphasis. “They should try getting some artillery support if they really want to leave an effect in the wasteland.”
“Pfft, ya know, maybe that’s the real issue here. None of them seem to know their way around any combat beyond a brawl. Hell, you hear how many of them try to call themselves snipers and yet are worse shot than grammy Iron Pen?” Starr set about packing up the small radio he had setup for the strike as Kurtz cleaned up his rangefinder.

Maybe they think it will get them off better with all the female birdies.” Echo dusted off her checkered grey and black armor plate before heading off on the long trek back to base. “Anyways, you want to go play raz the Stable kid? Heard that one just showed up to try and find his escaped long lost father again.”
