A few months ago, the creator of PonyTown posted a thread on 4chan advertising it. I think he initially just made it to be 4chan only. At first, there were maybe 10~ regulars. There weren't any trees or presents, or half the autistic customability there is now. It was just a handful of friendy /mlp/ fags romping around and being autistic, drawing giant things in the grass (which sometimes weren't destroyed for multiple days). I was one of those fags and I wish it was still like that. Anyways, a week or two after it kind of died down and I had stopped playing, I check back in. The owner is saying they'd add tons more custom ability's to your pones, more things to do, etc. Also was saying stuff about how their servers were being killed by just 10 people. Dead silence for two months on /mlp/. Then, a thread pops up a couple weeks ago advertising ponytown again. I go 'wow! this'll be fun!', so I hop back on with my old oc looking for some old friends (Meno I will never forget you.), just to find that there's 200+ people on. Unlike I first assumed, it's not 200+ /mlp/fags. It's 200+ hugely underage 'bronies' with unironic red&black oc's, sparkly dragon ocs, etc. Tons of cancer. Half of the population is Russians spamming 'xdddd'. Right now it's a roleplay chatroom for autistic underage children who found it from Youtubers with a large majority audience of children (PewDiePie, Markiplier, etc) playing it. Not sure how the Russians even found it. It is pure, undiluted cancer. This is neo-/mlp/ for you- a bunch of underage children rp'ing with shit, edgy cancerous oc's.

It has nothing to do with /mlp/. The reason the population is so much higher now is because Tumblr and Twitter found out about it. This happened ages ago, and it's the reason there used to be a secret /mlp/ server, alongside the public "safe" and "18+" servers.
