These wwre the best of times. When /mlp/ finally became real it was a melting pot. People from all over 4chan flocked and brought their board cultures with them. Closest thing we've seen to this was trash in recent times but trash was small scale in comparison. Oldfags have either left or are vastly out numbered.

I'm a victim of the loud memeposters.

I never wanted to become a shitposter the way I am. I just wanted to spread Nyx, I ain't denying there are legitimate reasons to hate Nyx and Past Sins but it seems everyone bases their opinion on those reasons instead of the rest of the picture. I just wanted to make Nyx relevent again. I kept it simple and only tried to make discussion. Over time I became more bitter and cynical to all the shitposting. I didn't become a shitposter by choice, I purely adapted to it. I had browsed /mlp/ maybe 1-2 years before I began Nyxposting and I think I started that in 2014 with tame stuff. Discussion.

Being bashed just for being there, labeled a troll or from reddit doesn't help. Being either hated or ignored it's only logical I became louder. If what they say is true and no one likes Nyx, then. Surely there's no reputation she's losing. All publicity was good by extension. It seemed like a win-win situation. I didn't turn into a shitposter over night either, it's a gradual change and now I became the very thing I didn't want to be. Deep down I still tell myself my goal is to help Nyx. Now it's to help Nyx, whatever it takes.

I know it's cliche but here's a famous/infamous quote from the book.

I blame myself completely yet I still say I had no choice. Emotions clouded my mind and that drove me to get worse and to be less tolerant of others here. It's easy to keep calm when you don't care, but when you care about someone everything said means a lot more.

I'm probabily sounding like an attention whore, at this point I don't care who does and doesn't think of me as such. But I'm as much a victim of this hatebox as anyone else.

The belief that a hugbox threatens our way of life as justificaton for being pissed, bitter, and hateful all the time makes no sense.

I'd just like to shit out some of my own thoughts for a sec.

I know it's called a "hugbox", but it should really be called a "hugcircle", because when you go too far in either direction, you end up right back where you started. When people say they don't want /mlp/ to be a hugbox, they're saying they don't want it to be a place where everyone pretends to be nice, no one is allowed to criticize the show or its staff, and no one is allowed to have dissenting opinions. Such a place stifles meaningful discussion and contributions. Instead, it opts to go full-speed in the other direction towards a hatebox, where everything gets shit on, everyone is a puke, and everything needs to be criticized. But if everyone's pissed off and doesn't want to give others the time of day, then that doesn't allow for meaningful discussion or contributions either. Which is why people separate into generals, where creativity and participation are encouraged (unless the general gets full of itself).

/mlp/ kind of is a hugbox, it just hides it under a guise of negativity that is supposed to look like ambivalence. For a place renowned for quiet moderation, few rules, and being on a website supposedly fitting the definition of chaos, there are quite a few unspoken rules and norms here that you must conform to lest you be ostracized and labelled the cancer of the board.

tl;dr Trying to go too far in the opposite direction of a hugbox leads to a hatebox, two sides of the same coin.

My point exactly. unfortunately, the problem with these rules (not that i have any with them, but this applies to newer members):

When I joined the fandom, it was still relatively new (I think I joined before the middle of S3 or something). The point being that at the time, I never posted on 4chan before. So, what did I do ? I did my fucking research, and legitimately spend HOURS reading about the past of this community, about stales memes that no one uses anymore and going trough archives that seemed less and less obscure to me as I read through them. I remember going through threads and not posting for 3 months (which was the time recommended before posting at the time)in order to ensure that I would fit right in. And guess what ? I never had any issue with anything !

The problem is that most of people (read: outsiders that know nothing of the board except it's reputation) don't want to waste their time and energy to this level of autism. They don't want to fit in. They just want to post pone and have fun. And /mlp/'s totally okay with that, as long as you respect the mostly unwritten rules.

People come here and see" no porn & no rp, have a good time", which is TOTALLY opposed to the spirit of this board, where we praise people who actually manage to have porn threads when "mods are sleeping". And even though we cry about it praise their courage, we know that mods banning them and deleting said threads are a part of the game. Now, what if >pic related was in a sticky ? Sure, it's not mod-made, and some of this stuff is a tad outdated, but most of it is still valid

I look forward to G5, and to see where they may go from here.
G4 has set the bar for the whole franchise and I hope Hasbro takes the lessons they have learned through the show and the fandom to make the next series even more fantastic and build on the greatest generation they have made.

So, I just wanted to say, I'm one of those anons who "don't like the show anymore", albeit I definitely still love the 5 seasons of it, so I wouldn't use that words to define me. I won't say that there aren't some of us trying to drag you down, but I haven't seen them. Honestly. Everything I've seen is threads with some Anon saying things like "I wish the show had a director who cared about the show" (I'm positively sure, Miller doesn't give a fuck), and every reply I see is "if you don't like the show, get out!".

I love ponies. Those anons love ponies. We used to have a show and a board, but as long as the show continues to be shit (for us) because the staff are a bunch of idiots, we only have the board. So of course "we" don't want to destroy the board.

Of course it's a bit difficult not to be upset when you can't even say what you think about the new showrunners because some people are too thin-skinned and think that criticizing the show equals attacking them. Of course it's a bit difficult not to be upset when people insist on comparing you with all those "artists" who never liked nor even watched the show and were on the fandom just to get easy fame. And of course it's easier to be a dick when you're upset. But, believe me, we don't want to make this board a worse place. I know I don't, and I know many of those other anons who "don't like the show anymore" don't want either.
