I can tell that FiM became an immediate hit thanks to Faust and Renzetti's absurdly high standards, as they COULD have winged it and the show still would have been popular. Instead they poured their very soul into their job and kept fighting to prevent Hasbro from doing dumb things and instead add more of their own stuff there, like the abundance of male characters, genderless slapstick comedy, varied body types instead of the same model, etc.

Miller was working along Faust and Renzetti since S01, but both of them were holding his hand all the time. This season he got full directing control and it shows, plus S05 gave us Miller's own episode (Princess Spike) where he worried more about giving a cameo to his buttbuddies Cook and price rather than paying attention to the story itself and as a result it was labaled as one of the dumbest episodes of the entire G4 run.

Faithful to his style, Miller promised to care some more about his work and then backpedales and turned FiM into GlimGlam and Sparkler's show. (For little girls only, fool!)

I've watched the whole show multiple times now and I really think the newer seasons are the best. Whether or not they're as good as Lauren Faust could have made them, they still manage a good amount of character and story development, with enough action and lore for a decent show.

Newbie Dash, for example, was meant as an episode helping Dash to overcome her past. After the episode, ie, in Top Bolt, they keep on calling her Crash and that's not a problem for her anymore. That's actually great. Getting over something that hurts you is a really positive thing. The problem with Rapp is, he uses that absolutely awful cringe humor in everything he writes. Some people like that kind of humor, that's why half of the board loves that fucker. It's just sad that it's a slow decay more than a severe decline. More people would leave the ride sooner and stop wasting their time here.

Don't get me wrong, it is a noticeable decline; but the other Faust-picked writers that were still there tried to salvage it. It's when they were phased out that the show became more and more crap. Which came to a head at S6 where the highs get lower and the lows become preschool garbage.

That's not to say that it is complete garbage, but there's only scenes that I liked compared to even S4 and S5 when I would like entire episodes from the seasons. I know! Entire episodes that weren't complete shit!
