I started to watch the series after S3 so i was careful not to waifu the characters with male friends. But i can understnad the oldfags whoe fell for her after S1. Shy and cute with no friends other than Mane6 and no ships other than lesbian with Dash or autistic headcanon with Big Mac. Seemed like a perfect caring waifu in 2011-2012 while Rarity was the most dangerous to waifu due to her romantic tendencies. As of right now, it is Rarity who is the only one with no male love interest or male friends along with Applejack and Princesses.

New writers don't watch as carefully as the fans so shipping made by animators doesn't reach them. Nick Confalone shipped Big Mac with Marble because he never heard of CheerieMac before and the main message in Heart and Hoof Day was against that ship as it would prove that CMC were right from the start to force ship them.

Fluttercord on the other hand is a very visible and popular ship. Not only oldfags from Hasbro recognise it, but also every person working on books, comics, facebook games or collectable card games. The new writers would even have a higher chance to canonise it than old writers like Larson or Rogers because they are used to the old S1-S2 status quo of just friends mentality.
