Twilight and Rarity don't have a whole lot of personality difference (they are both extremely anal retentive for instance), which is why I think we don't see them together that often. You could have an episode where Twilight and Rarity have to plan some big event and have them stress out about it, but instead of learning different lessons from each other (which is what most of the other pair episodes are about) they would each end up learning the same lesson.

There's plenty of differences between Rarity and Twilight Sparkle that you could play off of to make an episode. The biggest one I can think off would be social status:

- Twilight was born to a relatively upper class Canterlot family, went to the finest schools, and ended up being "drafted" into Princesshood by Celestia, something she had never planned on for her life.

- Rarity is the daughter of strictly middle-class parents in a small, nondescript town. She aspires to royalty but has only managed to become a success through her hard work in spite of the snobbery of the unicorn upper class.

One's a princess who just wants to be an ordinary girl. The other's an ordinary girl who wants to be a princess. That's a gold mine for story ideas.

I really thought they were going to do more with Twilight in Canterlot Boutique. It was a really good chance to go for it instead of shooting for an anti-capitalist episode. They ever had a good start towards it in the beginning with Rarity having Twilight take the spotlight for her new fashion set and Twilight being somewhat reluctant.

That's where you're wrong: Rarity is extremely social consious, she knows who's who in most areas, the local gossip, and the lastest trends in the town over.In addition she loves Canterlot itself, right down to the brick work.

Twilight on the otherhand doesn't pay too much mind on Canterlot as a whole. She is well mannered and well aware of another's title but only if it pertains to her daily life and interests (ex: she'd know Celestia or Stair Swirled and would bend over backwards for them but be more indifferent to Fancypants and Blueblood). Twilight's instinct is to be reserved when it comes to others and she perfers a quiet place to study rather than a night on the town basking in the city lights. In a couple regards she's more like AJ in being extremely over detailed in her place of work (dem long lists) and liking simple more practical wears (her birthday dress from Rarity).

So ther are quite a number of contrast to work with.
