We know "pony'ing up" means they take on characteristics of Equestrian magic ponies, but until that point we didn't know if they were taking on characteristics of their own pony selves if they were to go through the portal or if they were taking on the characteristics of their alternate forms. I cant see saddle arabia possibly producing more refuges then equestria can handle.
