By the time they become real I imagine 90% of us will move on. Only the most dedicated autists would wait for it.
Then there's the price problem. Usual robot will most likely be expensive, and you'd have to ask for a custom model with completely different body. That would mean new software, too.
Granted that by that time there would be no horse-ai mixed with human-ai, you'd basically have to pay whole studio to design and create a new model, along with new software.

I also don't see what is wrong.
Sure it isn't an easy, cheap or quick project, principally if they try to implement all the shit they want. But everything they proposed is rather feasible. And at least the mechanical part they have already done for the proto3 robot seems to be of sane design.

This, on top of the fact that personalities would be extremely difficult to emulate perfectly, especially with how much MLP seems to contradict itself.
That is, however, presuming one would like a waifu from the show. A robowaifu given enough information about the show and given the basics of a personality that it would grow and develop would likely be easier, assuming self learning and self evolving software has been firmly established by that point.

Robo fetishist here,

Since it will likely take decades upon decades of perfecting robot technologies with smooth movement, durability, solid personality programming, and of course affordability to the average consumer,
what I personally plan on doing is saving up my money for retirement and investments in robotics research programs, and hope to someday, be ahead of the game by attaining my own working robot when the technologies become reality and such a network of connections I may establish with researchers gives me an in to try the technology out earlier than an average person.

That, or, I'll work to build my own basic robot, but it wont be one with a working, organic A.I.

What I'm gonna aim for is just a pony doll that walks, and makes basic movements I can control with a smartphone app or something, and get them to play basic voice clips. It'll just be an oversized toy that I'll treasure as a hobby and pet/companion, that of course I can also sex with.

Making a robot that mimics living beings, which make CONSTANT processes for body movement and analysis of the environment and thought, is gonna be HELLA HARD. All I really want is a "vehicle" robot that looks the part of a pony, and my remote input and imagination can do the rest. Hope to find a wife that'll be into it too, and it'll just be a fun object inside the house.

Robo waifus in the complexity we want them to be aren't going to happen soon. Not in our lifetime, but we'll make good headway.
