The question is what's counted as an "adult", when filly AJ was allowed to move away from home on her own before she got her mark, and thought she could run the farm in her late teens, and Pinkie left the farm on her own to follow her life calling as soon as she got hers. I think it's silly to say their age of consent is 18, but it's up to interpretation and the individuals feels, in the end.

Ajs parents werent around when she left and went to the city as a tiny filly. AB would have had to have been born already, so whatever her age was at the time and lets just say a newborn AB for the sake of argument is the maximum age gap between spike and her since twilight was about the same age when she hatched him. realistically the age gap can only be maybe 5 years max since twilight wasnt even in magic kindergarten yet.

the writers, including faust, have said a few times they imagined the mane6 as being something like 15, but they act more like 17 yr olds. therefore the most likely age of the mane6 is somewhere around 17 and spike is somewhere around 12. 5 yrs is almost nothing, and since its been at least 4 years in the show since the series began (possibly 1 year for winter wrap up. minimum 3 years from the 3 hearth warming eves leading to the season 5 finale. 1 year after that for the 11 months of cadance being pregnant) it would bring spikes age to 16 and the mane6 to about 21 minimum, but with the possibility of spike being 17 and the mane6 22.

Care to explain that conclusion? I like your way of thinking, and could follow it, but I don't remember it being shown that she had her cutie mark in magic kindergarten. Actually, I find it hard to believe that she was 5, because Where the Sweetie Belle tolls showed that 5 year olds look and act like toddlers, and Twilight was a bit more mature than that when she got her mark. Then again, you could just ignore that the same way you should ignore the plotholes in Where the Apple Lies if you want this to make any sense.

certainly. in lesson zero she panics and talks about going back to magic kindergarten with all the other fillies and colts, so we know it was a thing. as the name implies, you do magic there, and her entrance exam into the special gifted school is what hatched spike. in her flash back she had just started learning basic magic getting ready to enter. there was no other mention of her attending school during or before that time, so the only conclusion we have is that it was her first school.

good catch, i had actually forgotten that one. im not sure how many years ago that could have possibly been now, but they really should have aged up the CMC to look like AJ did in her recent flashback episode as a teen between s5 and s6, and made spike slightly bigger. theyve been kids for 5 years now.

Thanks. That all makes sense. I really think they should have made the Crusaders and Spike bigger already, too. Before the teen AJ story started, Granny told Apple Bloom that AJ wasn't much older than she (AB) is now, so at least they're acknowledging that if they're not in their mid teens yet, for some reason, they at least should be soon. Apple Bloom's comment of "now that I'm getting older" gives me hope, too, that the writers are thinking about this and don't just have the idea of "they're the kid characters; they have to be kids" firmly planted in their heads.
