i havent been disillusioned like many here seem to have been over the years. season 1 was easily the weakest season in the whole series, and remains true to this day. season 2 was much better overall but it also had just as many problems as any other season. its not a flawless shining jewel like people keep trying to build it up as. the fandom might have been a shining jewel at that time because the show wasnt quite mainstream yet and it was gaining speed in multiple areas for being different, but thats not solely a reflection of that season it coincidentally occurred during.

all of that said, every season has some god tier episodes, and every season has shit tier episodes. overall, season 5 was their strongest by far.

Motorized cars and magnetic hooves holding the steering wheel plus chickun meme aside, the plot was beyond retarded as the CMC told everyone from the beginning about their problem and they still acted surprised when they told everyone about it at the end of the episode.

Cart Before The Ponies was possibly the worst episode of the show. Such an atrocious piece of shit. It's the only episode of this show that made me angry after I watched it because of how insultingly lazy the script and story were.

SaYS gets way too much hate. It was a dumb episode, but it was still mildly entertaining.

Princess Spike is horrendous, and come to think of it, the moral of that episode was possibly the worst of the whole series. But Cart Before the Ponies was basically a script telling you the same three things over and over again, including in the song. One, Applejack is traditional, two, Rarity likes creativity, and three, Rainbow likes speed. That's it, for the whole fucking episode. Cheerleader Cheerilee was the best thing about that episode.

What About Discord, Boast Busters, Applejack's Day Off, and MMC are some other shitty ones I can think of.

I loathe the episode, too, but I think that with a few changes, it would have been acceptable. The Crusaders were written well enough and were easy to sympathize with. If Applejack was just stubborn and dumb instead of being a total piece of shit bully to Apple Bloom, that would have helped a lot, alone. They could even keep the first race and its crash, if there was a proper apology afterwards that showed that the older ponies actually give a fuck about the characters who idolized them. The ending, where they decided to purposely ignore the race, then give RD a funny look for actually caring about it, was total shit. Even after everything, AJ and Rarity didn't feel bad or care at all about their sisters and the thing they were so excited about. And it seems that we were supposed to feel the same way as them, since it didn't even show half of the race that the Crusaders were so excited for. They stole the episode from them, even after the stupid lesson was pointed out. It's like the writers forgot that the first half of the episode was following the crusaders in their enthusiasm and excitement for this event.

carts before the ponies was indeed repetitive, but the characters were in character. it didnt rip established personalities to pieces like some other episodes, it was simply boring. thats why its average at worst.

The fillies drive the chariot while their adult partners pull from it.
Except for Sweete Belle's chariot. She's the one pulling from it while Rarity drives it. (LAUGH)
Applejack refuses to run and instead drags Applebloom at a snails' pace, causing the accident when the other chariots catch up with them.
Yes, the fillies' original chariots are changed to suit the adult's own wishes as well.
Rarity's flashback now is about how her fancy roman-esque chariot was bested by Derpy's wodden box with toy wheels and 2 brooms tied up at the side because LAUGH.
