Different anon, but no, in my opinion. The best part of it's the music. The opening and ending are nice, but I was left feeling like I wasted my time when all was over. Pretty over-hyped, and none of the characters are likable enough to make you really care about what happens.

I don't think the point of it is to have an emotional attachment to the characters. It's like reading a mystery novel. You continue reading because you want an explanation to everything that's happening.

It was a pretty good mystery, and made me think, and I did have fun with it and think they handled all that kind of stuff well, but being stretched out so much, through a full series, it felt a bit tedious by having nothing to make the viewer emotionally invested and didn't leave me thinking "I want to do that again some time". The VNs of Higurashi and Umineko managed to leave me searching for answers until the satisfying end where I love all the characters enough to go through the whole thing another few times, still finding new little answers every time. I get that most mysteries can't afford to make you really care about the characters, since a lot of the characters would die permanently, but I think that with how long Paranoia Agent was, they could have put some effort into not making everybody totally hateable. I mean, mostly everyone in Umineko were pretty shitty people, but I still found it easy to love them.

I'd recommend it to anyone interested in it, with the time, but at the end, it didn't click with me enough to make me think of it as one of my favorites.

I guess that's a fair argument. I do also enjoyed Higurashi quite a lot for the reasons you stated, being that it managed to make the characters likable and tell a compelling mystery with a satisfying ending. Of course, they had to use 50 episodes to tell it (the main story of course), while Paranoia Agent only had 13. Don't get me wrong, the 50 episodes were worth it, but to say that Paranoia wasted your time with only 13 is kind of harsh.
I'm glad to hear that you do at least appreciate the story being told even if you weren't personally invested in it, though.
