Growing up I has some pretty rough times and took refuge in first feigned and then actual indifference, black humor, mean spiritedness, arrogance, and imposing distance on all relationships.

Things have turned around a lot, and I'm much better now, but old habits die hard. It still feels natural to put up that front, even if it isn't covering up open wounds anymore. To smile that dumb half grin and say "ah, who gives a fuck" to just about anything, even though caring is easy again.

Thought is important, of course. It's good to think about how things would work out together, but if you really love her and care about the relationship, it will work out, because it's a waifu.
