Their two episodes certainly weren't up to par with their usual episodes, in my opinion, but because they were ignored through most of the season, I don't see how someone could blame the season being awful on them. A better season would have given them more respect as developed characters and let them exist in episodes not about CMC stuff, rather than trying to awkwardly force a lot of answers in two episodes and leaving more questions than we started with.

Season 1 was clunky as hell compared to the later ones. The show didn't really escape from typical girl cartoon mediocrity until Suited For Success, and that was halfway into the season. People just fixate on it because the fandom was less of a shithole then.
