The show used to do a good job mixing real life with its own brand of medium-high fantasy. It gave us six female characters that were purely focused on bettering themselves and their relationships around them. With that we got to see them change from episode to episode while nonchalantly dealing with fantasy shit on the side. MLP is not original, but it does do a good job creating its own world and characters to give two shits about and root for. I won'the sit here and try to tell you there isn't anything better, but you can not tell me that there isn't any nuance to the main 6 characters and the daily troubles and challenges they face due to their own limitations.
