It is still relatively mundane with mundane versions of the mane cast.

The only character given any decent characterization and development is Sunset Shimmer, though you could consider Twilight Sparkle as well. Too bad the rest of the cast is too dull to make anything they say or do interesting.

The EQG world is pretty mundane, characters are subdued, the world is subdued and relies almost entirely on an outside element from a more interesting world to make it NOT subdued.

This makes every scene without songs or Sunset or magic to be dull, which is half of Friendship Games and Legend of Everfree.
