ITT: barely any writing, barely any reading, same amount of bitching, acronyms, pony on earth, mixing first, second, and third person, gracefully accepting criticism, I'm not buying a 4chan pass, Hiro, voicefag gets on a new ride, porn with plot, unironically enjoying very specific shit, all the while being fully cognizant that it is indeed shit, fetishes, Human (Astronaut) in Equestria('s Moon), serious analysis of Equestria's demographics, in shocking news, a FiMFic author can't take criticism, sticking through a terrible S&M story in hopes of getting vampire action, and people shouldn't be able to dislike things.

It's largely readable, but with a good share of incredibly autistic moments and all around bad writing.

It looks like your typical HiE where the main character fucks all the bitches (which he does plenty of), and turns into a ridiculously overpowered war hero, but the pervasive sarcasm and self-awareness saves it.

After nearly 2 million words, the overarching plot still makes sort of sense if you don't look to closely and the story is still going somewhere, which is surprising enough.
The whole thing can be separated into rough story arcs which ever so slowly give a glimpse of the main plot, but after more than FOUR fucking years of reading this blight on literature, you'll be forgiven if you forgot the finer details of whatever actually happened in that subplot 100 chapters ago.

Overall it's likable in a semi-ironic way, it's so over the top in self-aware badness that it becomes readable.
The main thing going for it is consistency, you just know that years from now and until the ride truly ends, the author will still be spitting out 15k words chapters of the same crap so that you may never truly escape that fucked up fictional universe.

If you've ever read a story and wished it didn't end so soon, Diaries of a Madman will make you take that back.

Help please!

I read a fim fiction story that was really good but have forgotten the name.
The plot is something like this:

>luna gains control of equestria
>she forces twilight to be her student like with celestia
>twilight is resistant
>lewd

Luna is eventually shown to be caring after humiliating twilight for several chapters. If anyone remembers please reply.

Oooh right, and then giant sandworms and time travel shit or something, right And I'm pretty sure something important happened in the Starbuck's bathroom, but I can't remember what.

That story got weird really quickly, but I think I'll give the new chapter a chance.

>There was only the marching step of somepony coming for her.
Clumsy. No such thing as a non-marching step.

>There was no possible escape from the darkness of the room she was in. There was no possible escape from the darkness of the room she was in. Twilight had no choice, but to light the room with a spell.
You say there's no escape from the darkness, and contradict that in the next sentence. Or did you mean that there's no physical escape from the room?

>Twilight blasted the chain from her neck, a sudden “chink” came forth from the broken chain.
"chink" is a bit subdued for blasting a piece of metal so hard it breaks, and "sudden' makes it look like it was unexpected, even though nothing is surprising here.

>She squirmed under the corpse on the left, blood spilled over her as she tried to renovate herself under the dead pony.
Renovating is for objects and buildings not people, what does that even mean?
And why is she not jumping behind a pile of dead instead of somehow crawling under it?
- For one that's fucking disgusting, what the hell, blood is dripping on her
- You will very much be visible with your head sticking out from under a dead guy
- If the door's already opening, there's no way you have the time to go squirm under a corpse without being seen.

>Terror was beyond the power of her disgust, and she preservered forward while the creature started running back into what corridor was left.
So I'm not a native English speaker, but it's like you make zero effort to try writing coherent sentences.
I get a rough sense of what you're trying to convey, but none of it is pleasant to read.

You seem to say she ignores her disgust because of sheer terror, and follows after the blood-soaked creature with the meat cleaver.
But that's completely backwards, if I managed to hide from the monster, terror will NOT make me want to go run after it. On the contrary, it's disgust that would make me want to get out from under the dead body.

And I'm at 2k chars

Germany had been raising hell on the mainland for years, for the world to see. England had years to prepare and received extensive aid from the US, not to mention a large navy.

Equestria is a country that has been at peace for a long time, at least in regards to outside turmoil. They would not be prepared to stall an invasion. Also the real Persian empire pulled it off with primitive ships and sailing technology, a more advance civilization with access to magic could do better.

As for the why, it could be as simple as depleted resources, the need for more land, or even the ruler not wanting the nobles to fight amongst themselves.

Oh fuck, I was going to continue, but I just gave up halfway through and skimmed through the rest.
It's just more of the same terrible writing and gaping plot holes.

Three paragraphs later she suddenly can't use magic, even though she just used it for a light spell and breaking her chains moments ago.
If the monster could block her magic, why the fuck is it only happening now?

>Then, she went inside one of the tree trunks when far enough to not hear his steps. For a while she waited, and the lumbering beast went forward right next to her. He started chopping trees down angrily with a loud battle cry. Twilight clenched her eyes, tears dropping from her as the monster cut down the tree she was under into a stub that she somehow could still hide in.
So this confirms that the monster is fucking blind if he missed her hiding in plain sight, again.
I'd like to know how the fuck you can hide a pony in a tree trunk in the first place. Is there like a wooden door on the trunk with a conveniently-sized hole?
And then you're telling me the monster chopped that very tree with a meat cleaver, and failed to notice the unicorn right in front of him, and just walked away?
Wonderful.

>Non-stop running to the point that she finally couldn’t run anymore. She was stopped by a metal chain wall that stretched on for miles. Breathing from such a strenuous exercise. The very sight of the wall made her lose an inch of hope within herself.
So is it a metal chain, or is it a wall? Is she in chains? Is there a chain in the middle of the forest? Or is it a wall?

It's all around terrible. There is no redeeming quality.
First you seriously need to improve on your writing, starting by making sentences that don't sound like they come out of Google Translate.
The plot is full of holes. Your Twilight is seriously OOC, without mentioning that none of her reactions make sense.
And the best thing I can say about the description is it accurately reflects the quality of the story.

2000 ch
>>
>>28809656
>So is it a metal chain, or is it a wall? Is she in chains? Is there a chain in the middle of the forest? Or is it a wall?
Oh my bad on this one, I misread it as "metal chain" instead of "metal chain wall".
Now I'm just wondering how thick that wall would have to be to stop someone going through, especially if the monster walked away and she can take her time.
If the chains stretch for miles, they couldn't be very tense without snapping under their own weight, but whatever.
>>
>>28809533
>>28809656
Well, I was going to deliberate by why she lost her magic and more later, but I guess I have to work on a whole lot more stuff then just that.

What should I do then, how should I improve my writing?
>>
>>28809711
>how should I improve my writing?
There's no magic recipe, but mostly just read a lot until you get a sense for what makes sense and what doesn't.
If you're using a word you're not entirely sure you understand, Google it. "Renovating" made no sense in that context.
And at least spellcheck your shit, "preservered" is not a word.
If you can, please try to get an editor or a pre-reader to harass you, but you might not be able to find someone.

I learned English on the Internet, and I'm far from perfect, but there's a minimum you can do to make it readable.

>but I guess I have to work on a whole lot more stuff then just that.
Yes. Yes, I think you do.
>>
>>28809754
Okay,

What I dont understand is why Twilight Sparkle is OOC. Id like to know indepth what you mean by that.
>>
>>28809774
At no point does your Twilight stop to think or analyze the situation, she just rushes into doing stupid things, and I would excuse that given the terrifying situation, but even though you write that she's terrified, you make her act recklessly.
She is not afraid of crawling under dead bodies or running after a monster with a meat cleaver without taking the time to think.

You could replace Twilight with any random pony, and it wouldn't be any more or any less in character, you're just using her name.

>Id like to know indepth what you mean by that.
Should be "I'd like to know in depth".
>>
>>28809841
>>28809841
Wait, how would she have time to think with that creature looking for her. And how should it be that Twilight should have done in your opinion. I really need to know how to write these characters. I mean, I thought I had her down, but it seems not the case.
>>
>>28809896
>Wait, how would she have time to think with that creature looking for her
At several points she was safe and had the opportunity to slow down and take in the situation, which I think would have been a good idea because if I woke up chained in a dark room it would take me a couple of minutes to just stop shitting myself.

When she woke up, before blasting the chains with magic, she could have paused for a second and maybe even gotten out of it without making noise.
When she was, somehow, hiding under the bleeding corpse and the monster walked away, she could have stopped.
After (somehow) successfully finding a hiding spot in that tree, she just decides to run again and take the risk of being seen/heard when she could have used the safe spot to consider the situation.

>I really need to know how to write these characters. I mean, I thought I had her down, but it seems not the case.
I'm curious, what did you do specifically to write her in character, besides the fact that she used a light spell and some magic to break her chains?
>>
>>28809937
Well, I used the part where she talked about spike and her friends. I used the part where she was thinking about Equestria.

I was also extensively talking about her emotions about stuff.

Was it because I wasn't giving enough Twilight Sparkle traits or something?
>>
>>28809993
>Well, I used the part where she talked about spike and her friends. I used the part where she was thinking about Equestria.
If you're referring to that last paragraph at the end after she ran into the chains, that's exactly what I call reckless.
She just got out of her safe hiding place without taking the time to think, and runs into a wall where she'll have to risk fighting that thing bare handed.
That's incredibly impulsive and short-sighted.

>I was also extensively talking about her emotions about stuff.
>Was it because I wasn't giving enough Twilight Sparkle traits or something?
I'm not sure what to tell you. I'm not exactly an authoritative source on proper characterization, but this is what I though.
Make of that what you will.

>Can you give me a list of things I need to work on in list form?
I suppose, but please note that I'm just a reader. In fact I have so little idea what I'm talking about someone zoomed my words and made a meme out of it.

Now then:
- Your writing is fairly clumsy and could use serious proofreading. Make sure you understand every word you use, and at least run a spellchecker out of respect for your readers.
- You need to work on your characterization, your candy colored horses are acting pretty strangely. I'll concede that they're in a strange situation, but when a characters does stupid things it's hard to relate as a reader.
- The changeling-leg grade plot could use some work. Even if you have an explanation for everything (do you?), please try to introduce the story in a way that doesn't leave people utterly puzzled without reason.
- Using Gore, Dark, Horror tags is often a strong signal that the story is going to be a poorly written edgefest. While I appreciate the honesty of the tags, if you do insist on writing a good horror story you'll want to have a more attractive description and tags, because people will judge whether they want to read your fic by its cover.

The synopsis feels very bland to me. It doesn't really paint a picture of what the story's supposed to be like. It just kind of gives a play-by-play: Twilight's lost, has amnesia but somehow remembers Equestria, her friends miss her, and there's a grimdark monster chasing her.

Leak the story in a little--give it a little life. Where is she and what exactly is she running from? Or don't even overtly mention the monster. The synopsis doesn't have to give everything away, it just has to pique the reader's interest.

Unless you've finished the story, never give an "update schedule." You *will* break it.

>>28809245
>it isnt edgy
Why a cleaver welding monster, then? Why not a blimp crash if you're going for the survival angle?

Or why not both? Twilight has a severe concussion from a blimp crash and thinks she's being chased by this monster. Then you can play up the unreliable narrator angle and not actually show the monster, which helps with the suspense and letting the readers minds do a lot of the horror work for you.

>>28809283
>hasn't really got me hooked so far
Seconded. The synopsis is not drawing me in.
>>
[Pt. 2]

>>28809711
>improve my writing
Practice. More specifically, practice with something easy. Dark horror is not easy to write. Slice of Life and Comedy are the usual candidates since they mirror canon the best. Thus, you watch the show to get a feel for the characters, then you write some oneshots that are similar in tone. This will also help you hone your grammar and spelling. Then you start tackling the more complicated plots.

BTW, always read through what you've written after you finish. Nine times out of ten, if it sounds awkward or you have to reread it a few times to understand it, it needs to be rewritten. Most grammar/spelling issues are caught this way--by simply placing yourself in the shoes of reader. Using text-to-speech can also help for the more pesky errors you just read right through.

>>28809774
Twilight's usually a very rational and analytical pony, so she tends to take her time. In high-stress situations, she has a tendency to overreact and over-use her magic in an attempt to correct the stressful situation.

Of course, this may not necessarily be true for a life or death situation involving gore or grievous bodily harm--the show's never touched on that. Hence, why dark horror is difficult to write. You have to predict how the characters would react in a given situation and fill the characterization void in a way readers will believe.

>>28809993
>Twilight Sparkle has lost her memory
>she talked about spike and her friends
I'm really confused by this.

>I hope you mean "readable" in the "it's coherent and the sentences are understandable" meaning and not the "it's pleasant to read" meaning.
Technically, the writing is decent and flows well enough. Now as to whether it's pleasant to read, I'd compare that to the morbid fascination of watching a disaster happen in slow motion, you just can't look away.

Nope. All you need to know is that Dinky is a magical prodigy and that she's dating someone back in Ponyville (Pipsqueak I think). The sequel is very much a separate story from S&H. Either way, you don't have to fight slavers in FO3, it's a choice that depends on the player. You can even enslave children and sell them for money if you wish.
Littlepip doesn't even focus on slavers much, it just so happens that the pony she's looking for is in a slaver camp.

President Eden in Fallout 3 isn't karma neutral, he literally wants to wipe out every wastelander in the Capital Wasteland by poisoning purified water with a special FEV strain that kills irradiated things.
There is no AI character in Fallout Equestria.

You also don't seem to know that the pony Littlepip found joins her team and the story goes on for like 40 more chapters, and the overall plot is about trying to fix Equestria with a massive conflict between every major player in the wasteland about to result in an all-out war.

Fallout: Equestria is largely the plot of FO3 except with a sizable amount of stuff from the first game I.E. Trixie is The Master (the final boss of the first game) and the super mutants/alicorns can't fertilize themselves (which in the first game if you met certain conditions you can tell The Master straight up instead of fighting him and he suicides with a nuke after letting you leave because his superhuman race has a critical flaw he never noticed somehow)

Debate time.
Magic and humans.
Are they immune? Are they affected? Does magic from Equestria carry over to Earth? Does human technology work in Equestria? Or is it all just up to the author, who simply has to keep it concise and explain it enough?
>>
>>28820312
Magic works on anything in Equestria, is fainter in EQGstria, and doesn't work or extremely faint on Earth.

So it would work on a human in equestria, but not on earth, which explains why we haven't discovered it here.
>>
>>28820312
Why would technology not work? certain things would be understandable- no GPS or cellular communications due to the lack of transmission towers or satellite network, but mechanical devices would have no reason to not work. electronics would depend on magic. if there is some sort of magic field encompassing the planet, that somehow translated to EMI then there could be issues but even then it shouldnt take much to devise a way of negating it.

magic on earth, well that also depends on the nature of magic. is it some sort of by/product created by the ponies using it? or is there some sort of magic field on the pony planet which ponies are capable of interacting with?

in the first case, pony magic works on earth, in the second it doesnt
>>

What if Earth and Equestria are in entirely different but weirdly similar dimensions, where magic is prevalent all over Equestria's and not at all in the Earth dimension?
What if an object from one dimension transferred to the other retains at least some of the physical properties from the original dimension? What if the properties fade over time as the object switches over to the physics of the new dimension?

>>28820334
Equestria could have some weird shit going on with it. Maybe every form of magic produces fucktons of different wavelength radiation, effectively blocking all radio signal? Maybe the radiation is so strong it can even affect electronics? What if it's strong UV or gamma radiation, and Equestrian life and matter is just simply resistant to those forms of radiation, but our machinery and bodies aren't?

>>
>>28820345
>What if Earth and Equestria are in entirely different but weirdly similar dimensions, where magic is prevalent all over Equestria's and not at all in the Earth dimension?
To be honest if you try to find a self-consistent physical model for Equestria you're going to have a bad time.
To explain half the things we saw in the show, magic has to be an incredible source of energy and it's not going to be fun explaining where that energy comes from and where it goes.

So if you want to go with magic being something that permeates objects and fades over time in absence of a magical field, or something like that, that's fine. It makes enough sense that people can roll with it. It's not like we have an accepted explanation for how magic works, anyways.

My faggot headcannon is that all magical power comes from the Sun.
Luna is basically that one fat guy working night shifts at the ultra high voltage switching station, keeping the power levels stable for the entirety of a state, while Celestia is the thirty something triple magistrate at the control panels of a several billion dollar nuclear power plant. She doesn't just raise it, she maintains how brightly it shines, and Luna turns on that one hydroelectric dam every once in a while to cover the highs.

Actually, that's a fucking cool idea for a fic, wherein a little filly discovers that magic doesn't just "exist", it has to be generated, and there are hundreds of hidden generation facilities all over Equestria keeping it flowing. It'd look like if Tesla had gotten that extra million dollars
>>
>>28820385
That's an interesting idea, but it doesn't explain a lot of things!

For one, how do Luna and Sunbutt interract with the Sun? Magic? But then where is that magic coming from!
And what happened before Celestia & Luna, they must have had magic back then?

And there's still the problem of where that extra energy is going after someone does a spell that violates a dozen different conservation laws.
Teleportation is completely rule-breaking, and let's not even talk about discord, or about butterflies stopping a pegasus pony mid-fall!

How does a nuclear power plant interact with the turbines, the core control rods, the coolant system?
Electricity, hydraulics, mechanics.
Why do you think power plants are divided into those who can and cannot start "in the dark"? Why do you think that a multibillion nuclear installation needs a little ramshackle shed with a few diesel engines in order to start in the event of a power outage? If the Sun goes out, they're fucked.

And where does the magical energy go?
Entropy. It gets turned into heat. And guess where all that heat goes.
You could go really deep with the heliology of X amount of heat getting arbitrarily dumped into the core of a star.
>>
>>28820461
But electricity, hydraulics, and mechanics require physical contact, they can't really act at a distance, especially not at all the way to the sun!
And furthermore, if the way to control the Sun is simply electricity/mechanics or some other classical physics, then potentially any pony could intentionally or accidentally mess with the sun just by doing some high-energy experiments.

>And where does the magical energy go?
>Entropy. It gets turned into heat. And guess where all that heat goes.
Right, that sounds like the obvious solution, but then you have the problem that some of the spells shown in the show require so much energy that excess heat would cook up anybody in a ten kilometer radius.
And just people using mundane spells everyday would result in an insane amount of essentially global warming.

The tricks Discord does from time to time, like making a small object appear or disappear out of thin air are enough to vaporize anything for kilometers around.
Making 1kg (2.2lbs) disappear releases about as much heat as half a Tsar Bomba nuclear warhead!
>>
>>28820490
I picture magic the same way I picture electricity, hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanics, even light in some capacity; a way to transfer work over distance. The medium of magic is merely aethereal, similarly to electromagnetic or electrostatic fields, with permeability more similar to magnetism but able to route through vacuum in ways similar to electricity.

Messing with high energy experiments a little too far is the basis of a theoretical fic wherein Celestia dies as a feedback loop with the Sun after some high energy spikes.

And don't forget that the heat-exchange is two way. Energy, ie kinetic energy, ie thermal energy on the attoscopic scale gets transferred to Equestria in the form of magic, the work is done and the excess, if properly contained, moves back to the Sun where it originated. The trick, like with pneumatic or hydraulic energy, is to never let it leak.
But where do you get the energy to make this transfer in the first place?
Probably the Sun as well, although at a lower efficiency. Effectively, the star's lifespan is severely reduced as a result of Equestria's wanton magic use. The star should actually be a B class giant (and higher), but due to the amount of magic usage, it appears as only a main sequence star, likely just a G or K like ours.
>>
>>28820526
>I picture magic the same way I picture electricity, hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanics, even light in some capacity; a way to transfer work over distance.
Okay, but slow down, let's not mix things up!
On Earth we only have 4 fundamental forces, 2 of which we don't really notice everyday, and the other two are Gravity and the Electro-Magnetic force.
Electricity, hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanics and light, all of that is the EM force.

>The medium of magic is merely aethereal, similarly to electromagnetic or electrostatic fields, with permeability more similar to magnetism but able to route through vacuum in ways similar to electricity.
So that's more of less inventing a fifth force with its own Field, so far I'm with you.
Note that there's only the electric field and the magnetic field (which are really two sides of the same coin). Electrostatics is study of the EM fields when things don't move or change, electromagnetism is the same but when things are changing and creating magnetic forces.
Electricity itself can't go through vacuum (but the EM fields do!).

>And don't forget that the heat-exchange is two way. Energy, ie kinetic energy, ie thermal energy on the attoscopic scale [...] never let it leak.
Okay, so then it looks like you have a system where the Sun just corrects any violation of conservation laws, and that could work okay.

>But where do you get the energy to make this transfer in the first place?
Well, you could just call it a physical law and that would be roughly self-consistent so far, since just moving energy around doesn't violate any rules, but that raises some other questions.

So then why specifically this Sun? Does magic everywhere in the universe interact with the same Sun? What about all the other stars out there, do they interact with magic too?
>>
>>28820554
Why the Sun? Because it's the closest macroscopic fusion reactor around, obviously. You can't just conduct electricity over millions of lightyears and expect it to work unless you're the size of a galaxy. Same should go for magic.

And electricity can go through vacuum. That's electrostatics, in particular it's the electron emission part. Individual electrons can go through space no problem, and that's probably what's happening in intergalactic space. Gigavolts worth of energy are moving along pathways between galaxies, but that doesn't really work on the stellar scale.

The Fallout universe is what people in the 50s imagined a futuristic world to be, including the misinformation about nuclear power and mutations. This is why every single piece of technology looks retro, and why swing music is on the radio.
Of course, developers take some liberties with this idea, but it's mostly consistent - radiation is there to stay, but the environment can be purified, and it can cause weird mutations. Pic related.

This is all just bullshit, but I feel like contributing with something that's mostly headcannon. If it's shit, it's shit.

To me, magic has three factors. Divine, emotional, and practical.

Bringing out the maximum potential of a pony via their cutie mark, aka "destiny magic," is the handwavy kind of magic which helps keep Equestria from being a planet full of asshats. A divine "harmony" being manages the competition of resources and desires while keeping competition low.

And then you've got emotion magic, which is the bridge between divine and practical magic. Only a lucky few can use this to any degree.
Friendship is just one type of this, and the emotions used can be both good or bad as evidenced that the spirit that corrupted Luna uses this type.
It can be analyzed, but is mostly dangerous and unpredictable. Pinkie's the only one who has some success, and only when she wants other ponies (or the audience) to laugh.
Think of it as like chemistry where we have to guess the properties of chemicals more complex than a few bonds.
It's also the type of magic that acts like plot armor; which quickly resolves certain issues due to bad writing.

Then you've got the practical magic that you can actually study and analyze. It's either weaponized or utilitarian magic that can be just studied without unintentionally calling the divine or relying on your gut feelings. Bookhorse can do this like nobody's business, and it's the pony's bread and butter magic.
It's also divided into two parts: conjuration and manipulation.

I got tired of either humans having no magic, or having all the magic. So I devised a system that requires them to use one system that I'm absolutely sure that people here will poke holes at. Which is why I'm posting this. Because fuck my life.

Humans can't cast magic on Earth because the magic hasn't been there since the last ice age. But they can use tools as a conduit to manipulate their very limited abilities on Equestria.

This in practice means they can only do levitation. Which can't be done to microscopic levels. And needs lodestone as a catalyst. But it can be leveraged to move golems. Not sure of scale and complexity though. Too complex and the humans curbstomp Equestria with walking remote robotic tanks. Not complex enough and the humans have zero infrastructure to help fight the local wildlife.

Alchemy can be a thing, but Zebras keep the best potions for themselves. And it tends to backfire on humans because of their foreign emotions and concepts that make the emotional component volatile.

This also means no summoning things, no transformations. And everyone requires a magnetic tool. Just imagine that humans squeezed all the potential of telekenesis and limited automation.

Equestrian magic can make the human body more durable, scaling to magical ability. But it also makes all who enter Equestria sterile. Social structures will constantly have to deal with a slow trickle of immigrants, encouraging infighting and upheaval. So no massive human armies.

Only a few humans with the power of friendship can even hope to use emotional or destiny "divine" magic. Most people can use a single golem or two, and the best can use maybe ten, or one really big golem of suitable complexity.

It's all highly speculative, but I kind of got inspired by some anon mentioning the Golem of Prague and I ran with the idea.

>Why the Sun? Because it's the closest macroscopic fusion reactor around, obviously. You can't just conduct electricity over millions of lightyears and expect it to work unless you're the size of a galaxy.
>And electricity can go through vacuum. That's electrostatics, in particular it's the electron emission part. Individual electrons can go through space no problem, and that's probably what's happening in intergalactic space.
Nonononono! None of that is true! You can't move electricity over a vacuum at all! Electricity is electrons moving in a metal.
You're thinking of EM fields, which "fade" with the square of the distance.

The particle that goes through space carrying the electromagnetic force is the photon (also known as, light), not the electron.
Individual electrons can go through space, but that wouldn't do anything special.

>Gigavolts worth of energy are moving along pathways between galaxies, but that doesn't really work on the stellar scale.
Uhm, no anon. Volts aren't even energy, they're potential.

There's a lot of holes to poke in your idea, although that part with the Sun could be made somewhat consistent at first glance.
And then I'm not a physicist either, but I know that none of what you said here makes any sense.
>>
>>28820616
How electricity works doesn't matter here. It's how magic is supposed to work, mate. I may be wrong about electricity and whatnot, but nobody can essentially be wrong about magic.
>>
>>28820645
Well you're the one who said:
>I picture magic the same way I picture electricity

I don't expect anyone to know how eletricity works in detail, even I don't know the details, but if you don't know something you should either admit it, or find a simple explanation that avoids all of this.
If you just say a bunch of physics-sounding nonsense, I can call you out on it.

>but nobody can essentially be wrong about magic.
That's fair enough, as long as you don't contradict yourself or paint yourself into a corner where you have to resort to handwavy bullshit like you did above.
>>
>>28820664
>the same way I picture electricity
>a subjective claim
>taken as if objective
That's how I imagine electricity to flow, and you have no fucking right to tell me how to imagine things.

It seems to me that you're being emotional and resorting to insults because I'm telling you that you're wrong.
But it's okay to be wrong, you shouldn't be "pissed off" because of that.

Naruto is a gateway anime of the worst kind. It's a bad series, a clusterfuck of story and characterization that isn't very well done by any aspect, but which attempts to compensate for its weaknesses by adding in excessive shipping faggotry and DARKNESS. The normal anon can see this as the shit it is, and may enjoy it, hate it or be indifferent to it, but all the while recognizing that the series itself, regardless of their opinion, is plain bad.

However, these very aspects that try to smear over the shit of its core make it a breeding ground for aspie, unsociable underageb& faggots who engage in every kind of faggotry both online and in the real world. The superpowered characters all trying their hardest to look cool, the jutsus, peculiar, colorful clothes, the whole ninja faggotry and everything about the Naruto world fuels their escapist fantasies, while the pity-party character backgrounds, emphasis on revenge, and overall preachiness of the series make it fit just right with the mary-sueish drives of your average preteen and his sense of unwarranted self-importance towards the world. Exactly the kind of shit that makes little kiddies and underageb& retards eat this shit right the fuck up.

Naruto is basically THE series to attract the most hated anime fanbase known to /a/, which is why, regardless of individual opinions, it is the responsibility of every anon to troll the fuck out of this show and everyone who likes it, and ensure that no Naruto threads ever encourage the newfriends to show their faces here.

I hole-hardedly agree, but allow me to play doubles advocate here for a moment. For all intensive purposes I think you are wrong. In an age where false morals are a diamond dozen, true virtues are a blessing in the skies. We often put our false morality on a petal stool like a bunch of pre-Madonnas, but you all seem to be taking something very valuable for granite. So I ask of you to mustard up all the strength you can because it is a doggy dog world out there. Although there is some merit to what you are saying it seems like you have a huge ship on your shoulder. In your argument you seem to throw everything in but the kids Nsync, and even though you are having a feel day with this I am here to bring you back into reality. I have a sick sense when it comes to these types of things. It is almost spooky, because I cannot turn a blonde eye to these glaring flaws in your rhetoric. I have zero taller ants when it comes to people spouting out hate in the name of moral righteousness. You just need to remember what comes around is all around, and when supply and command fails you will be the first to go. Make my words, when you get down to brass stacks it doesn't take rocket appliances to get two birds stoned at once. It's clear who makes the pants in this relationship, and sometimes you just have to swallow your prize and accept the facts. You might have to come to this conclusion through denial and error but I swear on my mother's mating name that when you put the petal to the medal you will pass with flying carpets like it's a peach of cake.

Like it or not, 4chan has a very large youth population and it upsets me to know those individuals are being exposed to such lewd and disrespectful means of conversing. I hope the commentators will take some time to read this and acknowledge what is becoming a deeply concerning issue.

Your opinion is a waste of internet space. The internet is going to crash one day because people like you put IMMEASURABLE garbage on it all day long. People have been coming to this thread posting their INANE opinions, adding to the amount of garbage on the internet, and servers have a finite amount of space. One day the internet is going to crash and I’m going to laugh but you’re going to cry because you don’t have anywhere to post your GARBAGE and no friends at home to talk to about it and no friends on the internet because it crashed because people like you posted too much garbage on it. All the cat pictures, dog videos, emojis, memers, redditors, 4’s chan, you gotta wonder at some point why all this information is being kept on our servers? Because people like you love to read this kind of GARBAGE on a daily basis and tell other people how to live their lives. Well guess what? This time I’m going to call you out on it. This time I’m not going to let you keep crowding the servers of the internet because you refuse to let go of your OPINION and just log off your computer. This time I’m going to take a stand for all the true MEMERS out there who don’t stand for this kind of WHIMSY FLIMSY talk. This time I’m not going to let you win. The internet is going to be full and crash one day because we keep our GARBAGE content on hand for people to copy and paste too often, and they multiply the GARBAGE exponentially. There is finite space on the internet, and quite frankly, I don’t think your opinions and contributions are good enough to bother saving on the servers. I think you need to step back and think about what you’ve done, because your posts aren’t worth the memory it takes to save this GARBAGE.

i'm getting much better at not getting upset these days--i just call out the people who are shitty, they do their shitty song and dance for the world to see, and then i point and say "Look, i was write!" (Yes, ahaha).
people think they're gonna convince me i'm a bad person with some drawn out essay? what about 'death-of-the-author', numb-nuts? i don't care what you think about me, i care what you think about the story. and if you can't separate the author and the story then you're living in romantic literature still and you should probably go reread Frankenstein like twenty times. Or The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje. Hell of a book.

1. S&H was a product of its time, and hasn't aged too well. That being said, the sequel, Hocus Pocus, is very good (we were just talking about it earlier in this thread).

5. Very good fic, manages to keep Twilight in character despite being an AU, and the worldbuilding and action is pretty good too. Cadance and later Spitfire in the sequel are some of my favourite characterizations in fimfiction.

6. Nice SoL story. A little melancholy at times, but things work out quite well in the end. The romance is also pretty well done.

7. One of only two fics that ever made me cry (the other being Eternal), it's quite an emotional rollercoaster, with some really poignant moments. A good look at how people deal with loss and move on with their lives (or fail to do so).

8. I've recommended this story a few times in these threads. I find the characterization of Diamond Tiara and Luna to be very interesting, and I also liked how the story begins with relatively philosophical and academic discussions about power, kindness, and Machiavelli before ending by placing all the themes of the discussion in the stark light of reality. This story makes you think and pulls at your heartstrings.

10. Celestia is a Mary Sue, the fic. The guy also feels like a borderline self-insert too. If you want to see Celestia use her superior intellect to manipulate all of Earth, then this one is a pretty fun read. Just, don't think about it too much.

11. Twilight makes first contact with a pair of bronies. It's not as terrible as you'd think from that description, since the two human protags are pretty well-developed and interesting characters, but there's still a sense of wish-fulfillment in the story. Not recommended unless you're really into HiE.

14. It's shaping up to be a good story, possibly worthy of its predecessor, but it only has around 5 or 6 chapters, so it's hard to say. And Albi is taking the month off for NaNoWriMo, so I'd wait for it to update a bit more.
>>
>>28820960
>>28821068
(continued)

16,17. I'm pretty sure you've already seen the recommendation list I posted a thread or two ago, since there's a lot of stories here that only I have mentioned recently. Anyways, I've also said that these two stories of Vanner are criminally underrated. They are excellent adventure stories that play with the idea of the hero's journey by making the protags all mature adults rather than hothead young adults/teenagers. It really makes for a more mature and better-thought out adventure series, and the characters have actual interesting, not-angsty internal conflicts as a result. Definitely recommended.

20. Funny, lighthearted story. If you like Greek mythology, but aren't super into it, you'll probably enjoy it.

36. One of the best rom-coms in fimfiction, the story is funny with good characterizations and some really good clop scenes if you're into that. Even excluding the clop, it's still a very good story.

37. Okay Twilestia oneshot. Nothing spectacular, but nothing terrible either. It just fades into the static of all the other Twilestia oneshots.

38. Good story, as everyone else has repeatedly said. Not much else to add.

40. Windfall is a fluffy, point SoL fic, but it's sequel, Earth and Sky, is a really good adventure/comedy/romance fic that blends magic and Victorian era tech together in interesting ways. The whole story has a very Around the World in 80 Days feel to it.

42. Pointless, fluffy oneshot. If you want cute Shining Armor/Cadance fluff, then this is for you. Otherwise, I'd pass on it.
>>
>>28820960
>>28821117
(now for the right side)

30. Way overrated. Trying to be profound or make a political statement, but it just ends with Twilight looking like a jerk. Some of the parodies of it are funny, though.

48. Meh. Feel like a bad /tg/ self-insert story. The MC is a jerk but is somehow seen as the good guy because muh tragic backstory, and is way too OP for the story to be any good.

51. It has some good moments, but those are buried in over a million words of crap. If you don't mind lolsorandumb and referential humour, I'd give the first few chapters a shot, since it doesn't really go downhill until around chapter 60 or so, and even then, the next 40 chapters aren't terrible. There's very little good stuff past chapter 100, though.

52. Meh. I found it pretty pointless, and it was written before Luna Eclipsed, so a lot of stuff in it hasn't held up well. This is definitely one of those stories that had to be read around the time it was written, otherwise it just feels dated.

56,57. I'm actually quite fond of the series. The protagonist is actually pretty interesting, and the worldbuilding in the sequel is really good. You just need to ignore the non-brony part, since it barely affects anything in the story besides a few scenes in the beginning.

59,60. Don't bother. Square One is dead, and Beyond the Crystal Mirror was a pretty pointless story. Only read Mirror if you really liked Twilight's characterization in Archmage and want to see her react to various situations.

69. Good clop with some nice, heartfelt romantic moments beforehand. Not much more to say.

Whew, that took a while. I have to say, I think there's a lot of good stories in here, so good job anon, and happy reading.

That's pretty formal for something Vinyl Scratch would write, but why not.

Oscilloscopes also sound pretty modern for Equestrian tech.

>For the timecode I was based zero as the first audio after the discontinuity in the recording.
That sentence is strange.

>0036:40 Channel 1: [b]Landing gear[/b].
That's pretty specific. Is it actually easy to identify the sound of landing gears? Especially on a filtered & amplified low quality tape?

Overall it's okay, although the military talk ("Delta eight seven three, stop, stop, stop", "Federal two one seven, monitor tower one-one-three decimal five-nine") is extremely boring to read, I just glaze over that part.
>>
>>28824052
I hoped I had conveyed that it was a voice saying "Too Low, Gear", but I seem to have done something wrong.

Also, in the bit before, I allude that Twilight basically forced Vinyl to be professional by threat of withholding the royal stipend for the recovery work.
>>

>I hoped I had conveyed that it was a voice saying "Too Low, Gear", but I seem to have done something wrong.
Oh, my bad. I read that as [Landing Gear], the bbcode tricked me.

>Also, in the bit before, I allude that Twilight basically forced Vinyl to be professional by threat of withholding the royal stipend for the recovery work.
Fair enough, though it seems like a pretty radical change for her.
>>
>>28824090
Also, we had primitive oscilloscopes in the 1900's.

I mean, money is a powerful motivator. If you're recovering data, then you get to charge buckets of money. Twilight could get it recovered if she sent it off to Canterlot, but then it'd be a month before she heard anything, and it'd cost twice as much. She wants Vinyl to do it, but also wants Vinyl to write it up well.

She could send it off, but would prefer not to.

I liked it. There were a few kinks to iron out regarding formatting, but nothing major.

My only question is, do you plan to expand this with further reports, or a full story to go with it, or do you want this to stand on its own? I think it works the way it is right now, but it could be brought even further.

This is a single chapter, in a bit on a longer story I'm doing for NaNoWriMo.

I want to do a serious HiE. People who act like people, ponies who are characterized like ponies. Hopefully I can get Pinkie to be like show Pinkie, and not soooooooo randumm Pinkie.

I've got my A plot, and my B plot. I got the way that they start, diverge, then intersect. Got it all planned out, and now I gotta put pen to paper and write.
>>
>>28824251
>a serious HiE
It's been done before, but I would read that. I like first contact.

What plot are you gonna do after the first few days though?
>>
>>28824263

What I'm trying to do is start with week after the crash. Fires out, people are getting on with their lives. Both pilots are in a hospital in Canterlot (politics :) ), but expected to recover.

The unicorn who was cataloging the contents of the cargo has gone missing, nopony's seen them for two days. Some things might have been stolen from the warehouse, but nopony can really tell. It's a big mess in there.

Then I swing back, pivoting with the CVR to get back to the airport. Give some exposition. Pilot 1's a family man, Pilot 2 is single and he's racking up the hours for a promotion. The Union's striking again, fucking Corporate assholes. They always push us hard.

What're we hauling today? Just the normal packages, and this big-ass metal crate that some military types loaded with a skid steer. What's in there? I dunno, but the paperwork says it's some scientific instruments. Weird. Let's get rolling.

Airplane takes off all textbook like. They get the autopilot on, and everything's hunky dory. Cruising into thirty thousand feet.

Bang! There's something wrong with the plane! We're falling fast and we gotta put this thing down! Why the hell isn't anyone responding on the radio!?

Big rainstorm comes in. They're flying over a forest, but look over there! A gap in the trees! This is the only change to land, otherwise we'll hit the trees.

Then we have our crash, we have our fire, and we have our pony first contact with two guys that just got the hell beaten out of them.

We come back to present day. Twilight's looking through the warehouse. She comes across our big box, except the lids off. There's a small jewelry box sitting on the floor next to it. There's nothing inside the smaller box, except for a foam recess where there was a large necklace of some sort... and a picture of a large black amulet, with a large ruby in the center.

The Alicorn Amulet's back baby!

Yes, human technology doesn't work.

That's why they have light bulbs, light switches, lightning storms, an entire metropolis , some mixing DJ and why Twilight's nervous system doesn't instantly fail when she goes in EQG world because electricity doesn't work.

And before you tell me it's powered by magic, let me remind you they have a fucking damn with what looks like an electric station next to it.

Random question: What is the worst 'serious' OC out there? I'm not talking self-insert bullshit, I'm talking ones that actual effort was put into as to try and make them actual balanced characters and yet they failed so hard. And not Nyx, because that's too easy.

#9: absolute god tier PiE
#10: self-insert PiE where Celestia is OP as fuck due to being smarter than literally everybody. Not good but pretty fun to read.
#12: changeling PiE. I've been enjoying it so far but don't take it too seriously. I'm pretty sure the author has no plan for this fic, also.
#14: sequel to Long Road to Friendship. It's not really clear yet where this fic is going, but it seems good so far
#15: pure SoL worldbuilding, from the guy who wrote Celestia Sleeps In
#16, #17: both are top quality adventure fics
#18: seems pretty good so far, but super slow paced. I expected a fic about a changeling in the Royal Guard, but it takes him like 20 chapters just to get to Canterlot
#19: if you aren't already reading it then you probably shouldn't start. It's gone on way too long and not that much interesting stuff happens.
#25: each individual chapter was good but overall the story seemed to have no real direction. Though it might be better if you read it in one go instead of getting each chapter as it's published
#26: pretty good adventure fic, starring Trixie
#27: sequel to DOWAS, and just as good as the original
#36: one of the best "clop with plot" fics on the site
#37: cute Twilestia fic but doesn't have a whole lot of substance
#39: I don't think I've read it, but given how badly Life and Times went off the rails toward the end, I don't think I want to
#54: it's by Sharaloth, just read it

It's always up to the author, but I always found the magicla immunity to be a bullshit excuse to ramp up a human OC's power level--especially when they're only immune to direct magic. Unicorns seem to foget they can still telekinetically chuck rocks at the guy, or use the heat from the pyromancy.

The question of compatibly I think rests on whether Earth and Equestria are in separate universes. If so, the physics of each likely limits or prohibits magic/cruise missiles from working on Earth/Equestria. If they're in the same universe, the physics match and magic and tech are compatible.

>>28820334
>Why would technology not work?
If they're in separate universes, the physics are likely different to some degree. That might include electrons functioning differently, elements behaving differently, or chemical reactions working differently.

All of which could easily fuck up tech from both sides or even the humans/ponies that cross over.

>>28820364

Yeah. Free use is a fetish for where women, are, you guessed it, free to use. Sex slaves mostly without the BDSM elements, consent is always given. Sex is also usually depicted casually, so bending over a lass on the sidewalk won't raise any eyebrows. People don't like it because muh objectification and sexism etc.

That story's comment section is a riot. >The Chaste
>A short story.
Kek. Just caught up to The Chase last week.

I'd like to think of my own stuff as ambitious in some way. I get excited about writing when I'm trying something new and I don't know if I can pull it off or not, and once I stop feeling like I have something to prove the motivation dies down. My biggest weak spot as a writer is probably characterization, especially through dialogue; I never feel like I've properly distinguished the characters from each other, like even the words I'm using in their quotations are intersecting too much. I've struggled with that for eight years now, so any advice is appreciated.

My own Fimfic reading list is pic related. Can anyone recommend any travel-based stories besides Stroll, Austraeoh and Bad Mondays? I used to hate leaving Equestria in fanfic, but The Chase and Not The Hero showed me it can be wonderful if the worldbuilding's up to snuff, and now I can't find very much in that vein at all.

Anything ending in -verse is probably trash
If you want FiO, you can do much better than Prophet of the Digital Horse. Start with Eakin's stuff or Always Say No instead.
Off the Edge of the Map is pretty good as I recall
Pirene is good of course
I liked The Moon's Apprentice but it's very much a LW fic. In particular, it gets awfully wordy at times.
Trolling aside, Past Sins is kind of okay
Background Pony is about twice as long as it needs to be, but still good over all
Off the Edge of the Map is pretty good as I recall
The Celestia Code has one of the best depictions of Twilight in all of fimfic

>If you want FiO, you can do much better than Prophet of the Digital Horse. Start with Eakin's stuff or Always Say No instead.
I've read nearly every other FiO. I have vague ideas for setting something there (Step Into My Parlor, a tragedy about a group off the grid trying to blow up as many EE centers as possible in one night, and Cursor Ex Sempiternitas, which is just a title at this point), but they haven't panned out yet.

>The Moon's Apprentice but it's very much a LW fic. In particular, it gets awfully wordy at times.
Yeah, the first time I read I got to the point where they're about to start space-traveling and I stopped because I was worried the next dozen chapters would be a slog.

>Anything ending in -verse is probably trash
Really? I'm pretty excited about the Lunaverse. I guess the quality's gonna be variable, but a bunch of writers collaborating to hammer out a series with the same season-structure and feel as the show feels like fanfiction as a medium coming brilliantly full-circle.

Lunaverse has a few good stories, but a lot of them are kind of bland and several are just huge "Fuck the real main six, look how inferior they are to these alternate main six!"

IAH reviewed a bunch of them at one point, back when he was manic-depressive. I don't remember if I agreed with all his ratings or not, but I think they were mostly a good guide.

Focus on one character. Do a multichapter where each of the M6 get a chapter, or a oneshot focusing on one of them. Have the mlp wiki handy so you can refer to transcripts, or even fire up Dailymotion and look at a scene/episode if you start to wonder how X should act/talk.

>Immortal Game
Good if you like shonen anime and really the gold standard for action fics.

>Past Sins
People like to hate on it, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Of course, this was back in 2012, so it likely it hasn't stood the test of time very well.

>Background Pony
I actually stopped reading BP about seven or so chapters in, when I realized I had skipped over half the chapter because it was nothing but pointless filler that did nothing. The damn purple prose was getting to be too much for me.

>Celestial Code
Another good story with one of the very few good OC/Canon romance subplots I've seen which is unrequited on the Canon's part. Just don't expect the synopsis to shed much light on the actual story's plot.

>any travel-based stories
Re:Harmony (http://www.fimfiction.net/story/78420/reharmony). A total AU about Twilight traversing the Cold War torn world and gathering the Elements to (likely) reset things to the canon universe. Each of the M6 get a story arc about joining Twilight.

I will confess I haven't been keeping up with it after the Rarity arc went on forever, but I'll hop back on when I have some free time.

But it's a Shinzakura story. Writing crazy shit being something totally played straight per chapter is what he's known for. Heck, I'm pretty certain they're still killing virgins or something so unless there was a mass murder in the last chapter, that's still going on at least.
>>
>>28849868
>I assume nothing interesting ended up happening.
If only.

>7dsj, book 4, chapter 16

Three major events this chapter.

> The Dazzlings go rogue, after obtaining evidence that SIREN leader Cantata Blast and her fuckbuddy Divine Right are exploiting the SIRENs for their own ends

> Octavia flips the fuck out (again), beats up Twilight Velvet (again), makes out with Fluttershy's mom, and stabs herself with a scalpel.
On top of that, it turns out that being crazy makes you immune to tasers! Who would have guessed?

> Twilight looks through Sunset's desk and finds letters from Pony Twilight.
Twilight already saw one of the letters, and got only evasive non-answers from Sunset about it, so she's already suspicious. Now she has even more evidence that something's up, so she goes to Cadance for advice.

Cadance's theory? The letters must be for a school project. The handwriting looks exactly like Twilight's because, uh, Sunset wanted to make it extra realistic I guess? And also she must have mastered forgery at some point in her mysterious past.

So Cadance calls Celestia. Celestia knows the real story, but for some reason doesn't cover for Sunset. She says she doesn't recall assigning a project like the one Cadance imagined, but she does know Sunset is a master of forgery, and proposes that maybe Sunset is just trying to keep in practice, for some reason, and, uh, maybe all the weird horse references are to make sure nobody mistakes the letters for any real document?

At last, Luna comes through and says she's the one who gave this bizarre summer school assignment. And Sunset agrees that she added the references to that stupid horse cartoon (you know the one: Filly Funtasia) so nobody would think the letters were really written by the people whose handwriting she forged.

Twilight's parents are buying all this bullshit (somehow), but Twilight isn't a complete moron, so she still knows something weird is going on.

>Heck, I'm pretty certain they're still killing virgins or something so unless there was a mass murder in the last chapter
Yeah, that's still going. But it's pretty repetitive:
> random character disappears
> someone sees a tarot card nearby
> police find the body posed somewhere
I only bother mentioning it if something particularly interesting happens, like when the "random character" was the girl who was fucking her brother.

In chapter 16 they picked up virgins VI, XX, and XI (who was Saffron Masala, by the way). They've previously taken 0, VII, VIII, X, and XVII, plus they've killed some more people that I don't think we ever saw the exact card for (possibly because they turned out not to be virgins).

I really look forward to experiencing 7DSJ myself... I read A Hairy Problem b/c I'm a stickler for getting the big picture, & it wasn't horrible. Really unsubtle narration & references, but it was harmless & went down easily.
>>
>>28851669
Not that I'm defending the guy, but I looked into it and from what I can tell, it was his first story. Which probably would explain the problems with narration and the mile-a-minute references and the inclusion of the OC from AAG since he's been working with Shinz for apparently as long as he's been on the site in the first place.

That said, it also appears to be the only 'Applejack is a monster' type fic - both it and its sequel - actually finished instead of abandoned when the author lost interest, so at least he put in the effort to make the idea work to the end.

No freakin' idea why 7DSJ is tacked on though - apparently it's all to do with how Raspberry Beryl is a Sunset Shimmer recolor and originally it was all about a 'what if' scenario where the original met her recolor. And then Shinzakura turned it into some massive multi-book thriller about unicorn adoption and an entire illegal ring of assassins with musical names because fish monsters like in Rainbow Rocks somehow wasn't far enough. Part of me dreads (the other part is morbidly curious) as to what they might do AFTER ending 7DSJ. Hopefully Shin will finish AAG, but BlueBastard has been strangely lax in putting out anything ever since his crackfic 'Pepsiman Saves Equestria' which he must have written when high or something as while it's decently short, why it exists also leaves me confused.
>>
>>28851669
>I read A Hairy Problem b/c I'm a stickler for getting the big picture, & it wasn't horrible
Really? I was bored as hell reading through AHP. The writing wasn't very good, and the plot and main villain were both kind of predictable. And nothing insane happened, which was a disappointment after reading through 7DSJ book 1. (Beryl doesn't show up in 7DSJ until book 2, so I put off reading AHP until then.)

>>28851799
>Which probably would explain the problems with narration and the mile-a-minute references and the inclusion of the OC from AAG since he's been working with Shinz for apparently as long as he's been on the site in the first place.
At some point I saw a thread on Spacebattles where BB was basically fanboying over AAG. Not sure if he was working with Shinzakura at that point or just a fan.

>That said, it also appears to be the only 'Applejack is a monster' type fic - both it and its sequel - actually finished instead of abandoned when the author lost interest, so at least he put in the effort to make the idea work to the end.
Too bad the sequel spent half its time focusing on Berry Sue instead of actual werewolf stuff.

>apparently it's all to do with how Raspberry Beryl is a Sunset Shimmer recolor and originally it was all about a 'what if' scenario where the original met her recolor
Really? Do you remember where you read that? I hadn't heard that explanation before.

>unicorn adoption
God, I can't believe it's been something like 700k words and they STILL haven't gone through with the adoption yet.

>At some point I saw a thread on Spacebattles where BB was basically fanboying over AAG. Not sure if he was working with Shinzakura at that point or just a fan.
Honestly what's the difference these days?

>Too bad the sequel spent half its time focusing on Berry Sue instead of actual werewolf stuff.
True that, felt like the sequel tried to make werewolves work a second time, but found the 'solution' more interesting than the actual plot the story was supposed to tell, given the only reason Beryl seems to be so super powerful and unique with her ties to Sombra is specifically to actually just kill of werewolves for good.

>Really? Do you remember where you read that? I hadn't heard that explanation before.
Here's Flynt Coal mentioning stuff about how Book 2 apparently was supposed to only be the core of 7DSJ and it turned into something else entirely;
https://www.fimfiction.net/story/187558/seven-days-in-sunny-june-book-ii#comment/5697737

As for the whole recolor thing, pretty much the first chapter of Book 2 has Sunset outright notice Raspberry is a recolor of herself and spends the entire book convinced she's the reason Twilight's throwing herself in front of trucks like she's spawned her own evil twin of pure bullshit I guess.

>God, I can't believe it's been something like 700k words and they STILL haven't gone through with the adoption yet.

Interesting. Just think, if Shinzakura hadn't gone overboard, 7DSJ would only be yet another boring fic with a shitty random premise. Only the last 3 or 4 chapters of book 2 were worth a damn and it looked to me like Shinzakura was heavily involved in writing those.

>the first chapter of Book 2 has Sunset outright notice Raspberry is a recolor of herself
I don't remember that at all. It must have blurred together with all the other stupid shit Sunset does in book 2 to make Berry Sue look good.

>They'll get to your wizard war eventually, right?

Just finished the last chapter, and I have to say, while the story doesn't seem to be anything special (yet), the writing actually kept me engaged, which doesn't happen very often. It's basically a story about Mussolini finding newborn Cadence after an earthquake and her becoming a new fascist symbol. I don't know much about Mussolini, but people in the comments seem to think the author's done some decent research.
The only real problem I have with it so far is that Cadence's introduction seems really rushed, and everyone accepted her existence way too fast. By the end of chapter two, people are literally cheering for "the alicorno" even though it's their first time even seeing it.
Then there are some minor mistakes that should've been caught by a pre-reader, so I'm guessing he doesn't have one.

All in all, I'd say give it a try. It's only 8k words so far anyway.

Well, this part isn't complete nonsense at least. Those numbers are the numbers of tarot cards, and each card has a different meaning. Divine Right has a list of specific people he wants for each card, and he's picking them off as opportunities arise.

Can somebody help me fix the plot for this pony character? It's supposed to gradually get better for her but I'm thinking what steps does she have to take to achieve those goals.

>is a fat pony and suffers from binge eating disorder
>pukes alot
>has depression and takes drugs for it
>is in celestias school for advanced studies on unicorn math but is feeling demotivated and unsure if she can get her degree
>has a bf who doesn't care much about her and thinks she's disgusting, but he stays with her cause he needs her fathers money
>she is completely codependent on him and has been thinking about suicide when the first arc starts.
>is also a doormat
>is lazy too
>and a tad autistic
>has no friends except a passive aggressive bitch pony who uses her as the 'ugly friend'
>real interest is in writing novels.

what can I use as a main point to fix her life? What would you do in this pony's situation?

Honestly I would not want to read this.
One big reason I'm into pony fanfictions is escapism and the magic of it, reading about the shitty life of some depressed fuck doing jack shit doesn't sound like something I'd enjoy, even if it's supposed to get gradually better.

Unless the writing is top-tier magnificent literature, I could not give less of a fuck about your character and what happens to it.

I think might just be the catalyst of the story, she gets pregnant and gives birth.

She tries to deal with the birth depression but when ever her tiny little blue foal screams she can't help but want to take a pillow and...

That can make her snap out of it and decide to go to a psychologist. An unlicensed one who gives horrible advice

>One of my sperm cells are currently being transported to your egg from another dimension I have created.
What the fuck am I reading.

Seriously, though. When it comes to clopfics--especially fetish ones--detail is key. The birthing scene's under 200 words long. If I had that fetish, I probably wouldn't get aroused by that at all. There's just nothing there to really paint a nice mental image to fap to.

You have rapid pregnancy, incest, double penetration, and an orgy--that's enough fetishes for a 50k long fic, and it's all crammed into 1,500 words.

The incest also feels pretty weak. The sense of scandal, of doing something completely taboo and wrong--is lost in the confusion of the guy literally being born seconds earlier from eating cake infused with interdimensional semen.

In other words, it's far too much a crackfic and far too little a clopfic. If you're going to do a fetish clopfic oneshot, I'd recommend using only one or two related fetishes (impregnation/ oviparous, flattening/inflation, etc.) and picking a much less absurd plot.

And another point of advice: use scenarios you already fap to. That way, it's already well known to you and stimulating. Because if what you write doesn't arouse you, how is it suppose to arouse the reader?

>>28842266
>not putting fetish information in the synopsis so potential readers know whether they'll get aroused or not

Rapid pregnancy (literal seconds), mother/offspring incest, double penetration, and an orgy.

>>28845510
I thought the ending was shit, with the author forcing the OC to act out of character just so he could do this philosophical "man is the real monster" grimdark ending.

>>28856123
Sounds like a Tumblr story. I do have to ask why it's an mlp fic. Replace "pony" with "girl" and "Celestia's school" with "high school/college" and you have a standard novel. There's not a while lot connecting it to mlp.

People don't just get fucked up lives. There's usually a cause. Why did she get bulimia in the first place? Did someone die? Bullying? What? Her dealing with the root cause of her issues is going to be what ultimately makes the plot, after all.

If she's writing novels, that's probably your best bet to get the ball rolling. Perhaps the story she's writing mirror's her own issues and she doesn't even realize it. Events she writes about cause doors to open up. Maybe she writes about the protag meeting up with his family after a hard fought battle, that takes her back to the trauma that caused the bulimia, and gets her on the path toward reconnecting with her own family.

It's kind of hard to get an idea when I don't know the backstory issues, though.

If I were really her, I'd probably lose myself in the fantasies of my writing as a coping mechanism and never actually fix the problems that are causing it all.

It's not a bad idea, but your summary tells me nothing about what the story will be about.
>>
So BlackRoseRavem (who I think still holds the record for longest series with the Blooming Moon Chronicles at 4.5 million words) is writing another series, and the current story is over 1 million words long. At this point, he's written 6,885,796 words, which I think might make him the most prolific author in fimfiction.
>>
>>28861274
>is writing another series, and the current story is over 1 million words long.
You've got to be shitting me.
Did someone tell him that nobody even finished reading the last one?

Just for the record 1 million words is ~3.3k pages on a standard size book.
>>
>>28861209
I don't really know how to make a detailed summary without giving away the plot. I thought a simple one would be fine for this story, since it's going to be relatively short.

It's suppose to be a coming of age story, where the main character is forced to grow up rapidly due to circumstances.
>>
>>28861294
Huh? I always assumed that it's 500 words/page on a standard size, where are you getting the numbers from?
>>
>>28861373
Maybe it depends on the country/language?

Standard size for me is 10 words/line and 30 lines/page.
>>
>>28861319
>It's suppose to be a coming of age story, where the main character is forced to grow up rapidly due to circumstances.
Yes, but what will those circumstances be?
You have to give us a hook, otherwise the story seems unappealing. What's going to be the catalyst that will set off the yak's journey of self-discovery? You don't have to spell it all out, but give something so the reader can go "hey, this seems interesting, maybe I'll check it out".

I changed it a little:

Just as a colt becomes a stallion, so too does a calf become a Yak. What starts as an innocent adventure will lead a young calf to face many perils. He will come to know the hardships of becoming an adult, and learn that only the brave may become true warriors.

better?
that last part doesn't come into play till the end of the story.
>>
>>28861642
It's still incredibly vague, but maybe that appeals to some people.
>>
>>28861642
Generic. Anything could happen, and the synopsis is basically "Characters do stuff, characters have to face challenges", which happens in anything that isn't SoL.

What brings this story out of the crowd? What's the main difference between it and generic SIHiE story 394934?
