Celestia has such little impact on the show she might as well not be a character. The only thing that really changes is Luna's backstory and the first two episodes, but you can easily change that without much effort.

Moonbutt and Taffymane on the other hand are actually relevant when they show up and usually have reasons for being where they are. Celestia is just there (barely)

Like, think about this for a moment: The school teacher that is voiced by the same woman has more lines and screentime and even her own episode (kinda) while the character that is supposed to be one of the most important and powerful characters on the show has almost nothing.

These games, apart from Alpha Centauri, tend to be pretty horrid whe they launch.

Another great series for ponification is Settlers.
It's basically all about cozy, casual empire building and watching cutesy guys go about their work.

They are tiny though so that wouldn't be as big of an advantage as you would think

dogs would also have an edge in close combat simply due to being better at using tools, including weapon types

Equestria would have a pretty good edge with pegasus scouting though, so strategic movement against the equestrians would be hard if not impossible

Equestria's biggest advantage seems to be that is is just everywhere, all the other nations seem relatively tiny by comparison

Tiny as they are, their race can do damage in melee if given the chance to buck and charge. Dogs might have advantage on having a wide variety of tools and weaponry(both melee and range) but ponies are able to counter-act that with either flight for melee or with magic.

I on my part do think that the biggest advantage Equestrians have is numbers and mobility. They are horses after all and they can pretty much hit and run if they needed(and they should). Magic and Flight pretty much given them all the advantage they needed to disable FoW and keep at a distance. The only thing I can think of DD's have an advantage is surprise by using burrowing units to go after unicorns/horse-nap important units(essentially taking out key-important units) or collapsing city walls by sapping.

The biggest disadvantage I think Equestrians have is morale. As a group, they pretty much have solid and high morale but they are susceptible to sudden terrors or their leader going down or if they see a group of them running away and any of these events run a pretty high risk of your horse units from tucking tail and running away, creating a huge mess out of your army if you ever let such a catasthropy to happen. As individual units, their morale is pretty low so you have to group/bunch them up and use the power of friendship to make their armies solid.

Horses have a ton of weaknesses on the battlefield, especially tiny ones that lack the weight of real horses

Bipeds like the dogs would vastly outclass them close in, they would be more agile than the quadrupeds, they are substantially heavier than the ponies, so they would actually have the edge in a martial charge, not the ponies, and their appendages would make them far better skirmishers and artillerymen, and would fight much better in formation with the ability to interleave shields and things like that

Pegasi would be the big pone advantage, though they would be limited to skirmishing combat wise, their real strength would be scouting

An Equestrian army would be much better than the dogs at avoiding fights entirely, as thanks to their pegasi they are going to know where everyone else is and what they are doing up to the minute

As FS has said, another disadvantage(or an advantage on the rare elite ponies) of ponies is their cutie mark. Surely those who have the cutie mark tied for combat and martial prowess can fight on equal footing against threats larger than they are, but not all ponies are made for that. A lot of unicorns are just socialites who would use their magic on trivial stuff really, all it takes is someone to pony nap them and pull them underground then they are pretty much decommisioned.
But yeah a straight magical blast from a unicorn attuned to such magic talents would pretty much desintigrate anyone who is in the way.
