It's been a while, but I don't remember any shitfits being thrown when Prince Blueblood showed up. If anything, he expanded the world by raising interesting questions: What was a mere unicorn doing running around with a title that had belonged to an alicorn up until now? Many a theory has been developed, and I think only more would have cropped up around Cadance.

I also think that it'd have made her and Shiny's love empowering them to blast off all the Changelings that much more meaningful: It wouldn't have been speshul alicorn power doing it, but a mere unicorn and pegasus' magic boosted by love.
