No, at least not in the case of American Dollars. The law says anyone who does business in the United States MUST accept dollars as payment for their goods or services.

They can decide the price of course, but if they and all their competitors are all required by law to accept dollars, then naturally whoever provides for the lowest dollar amount will get the business.

The law is what gives dollars value, not "shared belief"
