Starlight and Twilight actually work together to fight an evil villain.
The CMC discover the reason why ponies have cutie marks and other creatures don't.
The CMC work on their secondary talents (singing/alchemy/stunts) in addition to their main talent of helping others with cutie marks.
Discord episodes with characters he doesn't spend a lot of time with (Rarity, Applejack, etc.)
Discord tries to make Maud laugh episode.

The difference is that Twilight did out of extreme desperation and was mostly by accident. She recognized what she did was wrong and was willing to be punished. Starlight took advantage of the state she put the mane 5 and didn't think it was wrong until Twilight pointed it out.

More CMC. Compared to season 6, I'd like to see a lot more of them as individuals. Not only as the main focus, but as secondary secondary characters, like Scootaloo's role in Newbie Dash. It was weird how neglected they were overall in this season outside of the few "CMC episodes".

Also, it would be very nice if conflicts didn't rely on a character becoming a total asshole for the sake of the plot. It'd be nice if conflicts wouldn't be the main focus of the episode, sometimes, and things could just be okay and not mean-spirited for a while. I could appreciate the show for being "cute ponies doing cute things" if that's even what it was anymore, but when 3/4 of the episode is unpleasant and mean, I can't use that excuse to like it.

Honestly if it wasn't for the fact she's a sociopath she'd be very close to a Mary Sue. She gets along with all of Ponyville, is gr8 at magic, and her only real flaw is she's basically lived alone all her life and can't into social situations, although given the finale I think that's been fixed.
Overall while she isn't a COMPLETE Mary Sue she does, like Twilight herself in recent seasons, have many of the traits they would usually have as one.
