S6 has been a pretty okay season
I decided to take the traditional way of voting to surprise myself with the results
I kinda expected top 20 eps, I love Rarity and Glimmer, but nothing they can produce on their eps will top BNE and RoH
The top bottom was pretty predictable, shit like those eps do not deserve to be any higher and anyone who gives them a better rate is a moron

It seemed like Discords character development was just stalling, so I just didn't find much to enjoy about the episode. I don't really hate it though - as I said, I tried not to get hung up on stuff, so that's partially why it's so low. It could be like 10 positions higher, really.

There still are sort of similar episodes in S6, and S5 opener were not that kind of episode, but it's was still great IMO.

What I do dislike about the current direction is that the show lacks clear direction. The writers can't make any long term plans very well, because Hasbro... at least we got couple good episodes and new waifus out if it, so it's not too bad, I guess.

Simple: I think EQG music is garbo. Not only do I not enjoy it, it makes cringe so hard that a tiny piece of my soul dies whenever I hear it. Prior to this episode it could have been argued that Equestria was an absolutist Monarchy. Princess Spike shows us that even Canterlot, the capital, has its own mayor, and that the mayors do meet as a group occasionally. Their very existence implies some sort of constitutional monarchy.

Equestria Girls is shit. "Human" ponies is inherently a dumb idea. The high school setting immediately makes anything it does garbage, even if they try to "get away" from it. Literally any given pony episode is better than any EqG, even Princess Spike. I just want a ton of action and adventure, and really deep development of a world. It feels like the stuff I want from cartoons is completely opposite to what cartoons are being made.

Now I'm curious how many votes it takes for this thing to put together a total ordering. If you straight up compare every episode to every other episode then that's over 10 thousand decisions. Since you said 800+ I assume that's not what this does and it makes transitive assumptions like "if you prefer a to b and b to c then you prefer a to c." In reality, if you were asked you might still say you prefer c to a because opinions are weird and fuzzy, so comparing all the episodes directly and trying to reconcile the contradictions probably leads to a more accurate picture of someone's taste but holy fuck would that take a long time.

I'm afraid I don't know enough math to easily say what the range of how many votes it can take to get through this is but I guess it depends on what order the episodes are fed to you in and how the program works. Can you give any details on this OP?

I don't get why people still hate Keep Calm and Fluttero on. In retrospective it all made sense as Discord was consisted with his character in that episode. He didn't magically became good after the ice skating scene. The episode just started the whole FlutterCord arc and it make sense as the first episode of that arc.

I think it's a glitch where the program calls a picture for an episode/movie and it doesn't load quickly enough before the next one is called so it loads them both for the next item. It doesn't break anything with the sorter, but it can be occasionally annoying if you quickly go through 4 or 5 items and the next one loads 5 or 6 images.

It's still early on and I tried to make the barrier for entry a lot lower this time around with that first method allowing as little or many votes as possible. /mlp/ does tend to have a lot of Anons that were around from before season 3 though, so maybe that will still turn out to be the case. I'm surprised with my results. Averaging the episodes, I rate the seasons S2>S4>S5>S1>S3>S6. The other seasons are in the positions that I expected, but I would've said that S1 was much better than S4, it's quite shocking to see them swapped.

I remember liking a lot that episode when it aired. In fact, I "defended" it in some of the discussion threads. But now I'm so tired of Starlight that this episode isn't even in my top 100. Well, whatever.

Fun fact, the number of comparisons needed to sort a list with n elements is approximately log2(n!). With 147, that equals 852 comparisons. Next year, after 3 EqG specials and assuming a season with 26 episodes, the number of "battles" will be about 1065.

For example have it compare/sort 4-8 episodes at a time, which humans can do relatively fast, compared to the traditional algorithms. This could easily reduce the time to half or less.
It could actually mimic merge sort by having items from the two sorted lists in two lines. Plus it would be more correct, because the person could easily correct their mistakes at later stages.

It should be fairly trivial to do this, if some anon here isn't too disgusted by JS.

It's simply a different question and can easily produce different results then directly comparing "what would you like more of?". For example one might feel that very well written and made, but "normal" episode doesn't deserve 10/10, because it's "nothing all that special".

The goal is to rank the episodes from best to worst, so giving a subtly different question might not be a good idea.

You could probably do something like pigeonhole sort into 4-5 ranks in the initial stage to speed up the process, but 10 ranks could already mess up the results.

I don't understand where all this Spike hatred came from prior to S6, sure Princess Spike and Dragon Quest rank low, but Secret of My Excess, Just for Sidekicks, and Inspiration Manifestation are often in the top 100 of most lists.

EqG movies are fucking shit. The characters are usually worse than in the show, the setting is awfully uninteresting, the design of the characters is vomit inducing, the plot is nonsensical (especially EqG 1 and 3). The reason they belong to the absolute bottom is that even when an episode is truly awful, at least it's 1) visually soothing 2) only 22 minutes long. EqG are 70+ minutes of suffering with maybe a song or two that is not bad.
The poll is about picking favorites. And I will rather watch any pony episode, even Princess Spike,SAYS and IT'S JUST A PRANK BRO together than go through a single EqG movie.
