Isn't that kind of cool? We are never worried that someone like shining is going to break up with his wife, but with this one there is the real tension to it whether or not they will stay together, and some real question is whether or not they even should.

This is interesting in ways that shiny can't be, and that's probably the best part.

Even without looking at her, the smell alone proved that an indisputable fact. She reeked, a mixture of swear, dirt, oil and dried blood. That last one was what finally forced her to crack an eye open to see just how grimy the changeling looked, and instantly looked down to her giant hooves.

She never even entertained the idea that it was her who had been injured.

"No, though at this point, I'm sure the lizard wishes I had."

Content, she nodded, closed her eyes and rolled back onto her floating pillow in her tub

A grin spread across Chitania's face, and she couldn't stop the low chuckle rumbling in her chest.

The changeling grunted, not questioning for a second whom she referred to.

"Exceeding expectations, as always."

Sunset, 'modest' pony she was, was nonetheless glad that yellow fur was able to hide a bit of rosiness to her cheeks when it appeared.

Her eye cracked open once again, and she felt a strange interest when it felt like those thunderous hooves were drawing close to her tub, and the sound of armor hitting the ground grew louder.

She opened up just in time to watch the massive beast brush past, and continue on to the much more spacious shower.

The Titan chuckled, massive hooves already turning on the water to full hot blast.

"Baths are poor at cleaning a body, seeing as you're just soaking in your own filth."

There was a long pause from the one in the tub after that.

Sunset answered, intentionally or not, when she burst out into roaring, powerful laughter.

If she'd been able to breath, she might have said something, but the image she had of Chitania the Titan, shaking like a puppy to clean her hair was too much. She was broken, and nothing would fix her but time.

"Any moment now."

Far, far too much time, until she finally died down with the laughter, and stopped.

"...Are you done?"

Chitania hadn't looked to her once during, either out of annoyance or to keep Sunset from reading her own expression. Thanks to that, it came as quite the shock when she heard the water splash behind her, and before she could bring herself to even look, she heard wet hoofsteps on the ground. Before she knew it, there was a presence at her side.

"Hm?"

When she finally looked down, she spotted the pony, a massive brush in her mouth, and an impish expression on her face.

"...what are you doing?"

Finally, she tilted her wild lion mane down, and allowed the pony to eagerly start brushing it, digging deep enough to dislodge plants that hadn't even existed since she was imprisoned.

It was oddly soothing, being brushed like this, and soon the mixture of it and the cascade of water caused her to begin to relax.

The pony pressed against her, working her hooves into her mane to wrap around her long neck.

The Titan felt breath on her ear when the pony leaned in to whisper.

Sunset hitting on her it's hard to tell, since she does it for fun with everybody else, that she likes at least, so it's hard to tell if this is genuine or if it's just because this means she actually does seem to see her as a friend.

She is doting on her, but from their interaction disease be mostly she's just impressed that she is living up to the hype and delivering everything she promised she would. She also might see 13 in there, at least that's what I got when she was sleeping on top of her and when she said she appreciated her.

Their motivations are kill discord and fight gods, that's at least what we know for sure.

Right now, it would look to the outside world their actions are those of the good guys, and that's what makes them so scary to AJ's mission.

These characters are utterly fascinating because of how far they've come and how much is changed between them. Do you remember when sunset was trying to out right kill her, and Chitty thought she was nothing more than a mild annoyance that she was more than happy to crush if the opportunity came around to it? They used to think of each other as the worst scum of the earth, Sunset because she was a changeling queen, and Chitty because she constantly wanted to take her down or find her weaknesses. They both saw each other as something that needed to die, or something that was all holding them back. Now? Now they see each other as allies they couldn't do without. For fucks sake, it wasn't that long ago that Sunset was fighting her in the middle of the town! Now they are to the closest individuals in the whole story!

That's something I'm not worried about, because of how this change happened. Chitty was there. That's all it took, that's all Sunset needed to flip, Chitania made a promise, and even though she fucked up again and again and it took days upon literally days of her fucking up one trick to make it work, Chitty never once gave up on her even when Sunset tried to make her give up. She insulted her and told her to stop trying and Chitty just powered through it and failed again. Sunset's whole life up to this point was being ignored and forgotten and pushed away, everyone from Celestia banning her and then later replacing her after she ran away, to being pushed on someone who couldn't be bothered to give her the time of day while they were literally in the same room and never trusted her or believed in her, and then out of nowhere Chitania drops in and is like "I will help you if you help me", and then she motherfucking does it. She pulls it off, and then she treats her nicely, she sticks around, she invites her to come and eat lunch with her and her daughter when everything is all fixed, and saves her when Rarity goes nuclear. And then, icing on the top, she forgives her after she fucks up and drugs her wrong, and says she appreciates her.

I'm not worried Sunset's going to reveal this was a ploy to kill the changeling Queens, because at this point that would mean giving up the one person on the whole planet who was actually there for her and wants her around.

And then one day, it stopped.

She changed, in body and actions, and he gave up and turned away. His attempts to steer her away failed, and he gave up. He moved on.

He'd never give up on her even if she'd never touch him like he wanted, and she'd never let him go no matter how many threw themselves his way.

And they weren't the only ones.

She'd never really wondered why she'd taken it so slow. Why she hadn't had those spur of the moment need to go out and just be with them as those before her did. Always too busy, always something going on, something. She was a little uncertain and busy, that was it.

But despite the world clearly having issue with it, three who were just as busy, had just as much going on, and were a thousand times more unsure than her fought through it and would not rest until they had a date. And they'd pulled it off, eventually.

She never did that. Never said, "Loverboy! Lets go have us some fun!" or "Gimme some sugar!" Or anything as cheesy as it sounded, but she felt unfulfilled without.

She'd never pressed on, not once.

He'd never pushed on either, she realized. One date, one wonderful time, and that was it. Apparently the matter was settled.

Her body had never been colder, when she couldn't remember a single time she'd had that sporadic spark, and blazed with a need to just be with him.

And it seemed, from what her memory could recall, he was much the same.

If she saw him now and brushed him off, he wouldn't think anything of it.

It wouldn't be the first time.

If he knew what she had done, who she had almost become, what she had almost been, she doubted he would care. He'd laugh it off and say he knew she wouldn't ever really be like that.

She found herself wondering if he would think the same, had he been there.

Love was what had saved her, shown her the light on that day, love was what healed her, and made her whole.

She was not sure he would not leave her, if he changed. He said he loved her, said he'd do anything for her, lavished on her and made her feel important, but she hadn't been the first, and it hadn't been special.

She was not sure he would not leave her, if she were to change from what he admired. It wouldn't be the first time.

Fluttershy wasn't feeling well.

That was a simple fact, hard to ignore or refute.

For several hours now, the pale golden pegasus felt an ever increasing pressure inexplicably build up within her, unbidden worries making setting one hoof before the other an increasingly difficult task. Her thoughts weighted heavily and her body felt sluggish as her troubled mind was seemingly putting physical strain upon her body.

Ordinarily, she would have shifted the blame onto her own insecurities.

Walking through the crowded streets of Canterlot on her way back to the castle left her feeling exposed and vulnerable, her grand, winged form drawing attention by simply being there. Unwanted attention, in the form of curious stares, conspiratorial whispers and pointed hooves.

It was an old, familiar pain.

But it wasn't what was primarily bothering her.

There was also the matter of her younger brother Zephyr Breeze, gone and on an extremely unlikely adventure with her friend Discord. With both Discord's and Zephyr's sometimes exploitative nature and their combined knack to cause trouble, she was more than a little concerned what they were up to and why they haven't bothered coming back or at least letting her know what they were doing.

Something about their prolonged absence made her feel ill at ease. But despite these concerns, she was pretty sure that it wasn't what was making her feel so incredibly weighted down either.

Her whisper was lost to the ambient noise of the city as she trudged on, wings drooping, the looming alabaster castle ahead drawing ever nearer. A safe place. Refuge from those thinking and expecting her to be a princess she simply wasn't.

It may have been easy to drown out the murmurs and conversations in her immediate vicinity. Fluttershy was used to doing so. It was as easy as to press her ears flat against her skull and think of happier things than ponies talking about her, staring at her, judging her.

But the sudden, sharp yell coming from the bakery she just passed, followed by the sharp crash of something breaking, was enough to make her look up abruptly and turn her head like an alerted deer sensing danger.

“Mrs. Shine, I assure you, I don't- that shouldn't even be-”

There, within the small, ornate and expensively decorated bakery was an unicorm mare with an expensive dress and gaudy jewelry. Her face was red, her hooves upon the counter before her, the clerk behind it cowering before her fury, Tthe reddish-white smear of a cake with shards of a broken plate within it sliding down the wall besides his head.

“Shouldn't be, couldn't be, doesn't matter! How can you mess up something as simple as a strawberry cake. I've been a customer in this establishment for years, how can you mess up something as simple as STRAWBERRY and CAKE!”

It would usually be at this point that Fluttershy's anxiety would kick in and cause her to walk away from the scene, both to avoid being drawn into it and to escape the discomfort ponies fighting made her feel.

“But it IS strawberry! You specifically asked for strawberry, and so we made strawberry. I don't understand what appears to be the issue!”

And yet, the pegasus' stare was inexplicably drawn to the destroyed cake. Despite the angry, cursing and violently gesturing ponies in the queue behind the furious Canterlot noble usually being the sort of crowd she'd shy away from, she stopped and stared.

“It's PEACH! Peaches! You somehow managed to to make a peach cake look like strawberry, you incompetent baffoon! How can you mess up that badly?! This is the last time I-”

Fluttershy's attention was jerked away from the quickly escalating scene when a sob came from just across the street, the faint sound of sadness and despair tugging at her heart.

“I'm sorry, Dad!”

An elderly stallion white silvery highlights in his mane was standing before a younger-looking mare who seemed to be in distress, tears streaking down her cheeks while her father just looked at her helplessly.

“Stripes, sweetheart, but... how? How could you've lost it all? There were so many bits left over from your college fund. How can all of it be gone? You just wanted to take a little vacation with your friend.”

The mare was shuddering, her crying causing her body to spasm and shake while she appeared to torn between shame and fear. As understanding as the stallion appeared to be, his own growing panic only made her become less and less intelligible.

“I don't know; Dad! I-I don't know! Me and Cherry put aside a little bit for the games on the strip, it... it just disappeared from our bag! And not just me, there were so many ponies who... I don't know what to do!”

Fluttershy's head began throbbing, a fear of the unknown, of an unseen danger she couldn't quite see or perceive yet welling up within her.

Her head jerked left and right, until she found what she was looking for.

A newspaper stand.

With thundering hooves, she crossed the street, causing cabs to screech to a halt and ponies to yell at her, but she didn't care. Neither did she care when the newspaper vendor shouted at her for just tearing one of the newspapers from its stand so she could unfold and read it right then and there.

Nothing and no one at all mattered when she read the many headlines.

It was the cause of the weight she had felt all this time. It was the unbearable pressure of Chaos flourishing all around her..

The newspaper vendor decided trying to badger 'Princess' Fluttershy for the ruined newspaper wasn't worth it when a black portal of all-consuming dark matter opened up, wriggling and screeching as it swallowed her whole like the maw of an otherworldly entity, causing her and it both to disappear from sight.

In the span of a single day, her whole world had started to crumble.

And it only got worse with every moment

She hadn't seen it.

Hadn't wanted to.

Still didn't now.

She hadn't thought for a moment about it that sometime after he'd come to her crying about losing her, their relationship had started. Hadn't considered what it meant, why it would happen, or anything like that. She was caught up in the fun and the feelings, and didn't think about it at all.

Something she wanted to do more than anything in the world right now. Go back to it being fun, if stagnant. Nothing major happening for them, but neither against them either. They simply existed with each others company, an unspoken bond between them that didn't require any grand gestures.

Or fun dates, or simple moments, or being there when they were at their very worst. They hadn't done any of that, and both of them had been in moments where it was needed. Looking back, it should have been a warning sign when they hadn't been together following the world ending threat of Cordyceps, she hadn't wanted to rush to him, she'd wanted nothing more than to go home. He hadn't minded either, apparently.

There were no great moments of fallout.

No great moments of joy, either.

Their relationship just coasted, as simple as could be. Simplicity was something she wanted, desperately needed following her change, and she'd clung to him when he'd offered.

It was simple, and little more.

Maybe simplicity wasn't so bad, she stuck to in her stubbornness. He was younger than her, maybe a bit of time and caring was all she really needed.

Then her eyes pulled to the side of their own accord, and the honesty so toxic came back.

None of them, save the two in the middle, had been intimate in that way, and even those two had taken their sweet time before reaching it, but there were so many moments, so many times when they showed they cared.

She would never, ever forget, no matter how long she lived, how Chrysalis had looked after Twilight's episode had been resolved, and Cadence had called the Empire her home.

She couldn't even recall moments like Spitfire had with them. Spitfire, of all ponies, she couldn't match up to that, and their relationships could not be more simple.

They didn't need grand moments.

They didn't need booming declarations of love.

They didn't even need to go on dates or spend time together in traditional ways.

They just needed each other, in good times, and bad times. When they were at their best.

Each of them knew the other would be there, no matter how bad things got.

Plain and simple, honest country fact as raw as an apple plucked straight from the tree and needed as the sun is to the plants on the ground, was that she didn't.

She didn't know if she turned bad like she had before, that he'd stick around.

Celestia had turned cruel, Eighteen had turned desperate, Forty Two had revealed a painful truth, Spitfire had sought revenge, and Chrysalis betrayed them and locked them away as she became all powerful, and every time, they fought until things were right.

She didn't know if Spike would.

If he could, at all.

Was it something in him, to only devote and love when they fit such a perfect mold? When they slipped away, did he find what held him there slip away too, and that made it so easy to move on? It hadn't been a week since he'd lost Rarity, and he was already on her like red on her cutie mark. Did he need to see her as he did, as that image was in his head, and if that image changed did he want it at all? Why would he fight, when he could so easily move on?

Like he had moved on, back then. Back whens he'd come to her, and she needed him.

Things were so different now than they had been, so much had changed.

She had more conflict, yet less conflict.

She wasn't on the brink of collapse anymore, save the occasional bout that left her tired.

Her friends weren't so caught up in their own things they forgot to stick around anymore. She could call them up at anytime, like she couldn't when this had all begun.

She had lost the chaos of trying to fight endless paperwork now that they, and Celestia at last, stood on her side, and took the brunt of the force.

She had what she had wanted back then.

She had what she didn't before, stability, and simplicity.

She had it all.

But nothing had changed.

He hadn't changed, she hadn't changed, and she didn't know what that meant.

Her thoughts reminded her, as if she needed the help, that all this time she'd thought of only how he reacted to her, what he had or had not done. In a tone that sounded so very much like Granny's in her chiding voice whenever she noticed one of them slacking when their siblings worked hard, she was reminded that she was there too.

The question went as unanswered in reality as it did in her mind. She couldn't recall ever feeling that need to take him and go out anymore than he had. She didn't think of a moment where she just had to be with him, a feeling inside her that wouldn't be filled unless he was there.

She couldn't remember anything like that, ever.

She didn't need to think about this. Nothing had forced her, and she could have spent even more years than she had without it. A part of her was sure she'd be happier, at least a little bit, if the thought had never come to it.

But it was too late.

The door had been opened, the question had been asked, and she couldn't shut it ever again.

She felt wrong examining everything as she was. She felt terrible thinking about all the good times they'd had in such a dark way. She felt awful, just for wondering if how he cared about her was good enough, or strong enough. Neither should have ever been a question for her.

But it was now, and the more she saw willing or no, the less she found.

Simple was a way many had described her, but often as an insult. She wasn't stupid, just simple. She wasn't lacking anything, what she had was just simple. She didn't like complicated matters, she could only handle simple.

Her relationship was simple.

She could leave it be simple, for years to come, until one day she had the best of intentions or got lost in her own world again, and it was over.

She could have that risk, that he'd simply move on, and it wouldn't hurt as much, just because it was simple.

There was safety, and assurance, in simplicity.

Or did she want to walk down that darker road, so much bigger, with so many paths and turns she had no idea where it could possibly end up. She could end up just as alone after endless walking through the rocky and painful path.

Or maybe there was something there waiting on the other side, and she just hadn't seen it.

There were two roads in front of Princess Applejack, ones only she could see in this hospital room filled with joy of the new life and the new love they would bring to the world.

The setting could not have felt more appropriate. Love was beside her, love was all around her, love had opened the door whether she liked it or not. It hadn't forced her, and it hadn't made her, it had only given light to what she'd kept her eyes closed to.

In this, the land of love, she saw two paths before her.

When she slipped down silently off her bed, unnoticed to any but the one beside her, Spitfire, who was trying desperately to pretend she wasn't there, all four hooves were firmly planted at that fork in the road.

Her hoof stepped forwards, and she was almost ready to walk that path.
