In terms of the pony community, "Brony" started on 4chan, love and tolerance started on 4chan, pretty much everything that /mlp/ now associates with "cringe" brony shit started here. It was a total hugbox, a rebellion against the usual 4chan attitude, hence moot's wording in that post ("tripfriend"). 2012 was on the tail end of that. During the period where ponies were blanket banned from 4chan, people didn't have really else to go. Some migrated to places like Ponychan which ended up being even more hugboxy.

By the time /mlp/ was created the brony "culture" had gone mainstream. Stuff like the bronies singing at pizza hut had cropped up. I guess there were enough people at that point who were tired of it all, or were ashamed that they were affiliated with such faggotry. That backlash ended up becoming the de-facto culture of /mlp/ (This is why "brony" has become the word that you shall not speak on here), while many of the people still attracted to the hugboxing stayed on Ponychan and other sites.

Maybe it's not what moot expected from the board. I can't say if he hates us, but just because he said nice things about us 4 years ago doesn't mean he still feels that way now. The 4chan pony community has changed a lot.

You don't know your history that well. I know for a fact that most people used "love and tolerate" in order to troll people shitting up threads on /b/ and to a lesser extent on /co/.
Of course, this was mostly because we started pushing it a little with the reaction images, but Love and tolerate was mostly a way to tell others to fuck off. That's why people who believe that it was sometime used unironically are mostly people who didn't get it when it started appearing, got into the show and then started spouting it like retards
Now, these people obviously existed before /mlp/ and could be called original bronies, but you have to remember that at the time, they only made about a third of the whole fandom (with the memesters from /b/ and the plot-lovers from /co/)

eeeh, sleepless in ponyville was good yes, but it could've been so much better; as much as I like princess Luna and as much as her dreamwalking has added to further episodes and fan works (even if we definitely argued a lot in the Luna thread about that aspect fucking up a lot of her backstory), the episode would have been much better if we had taken her out and Scootaloo had have to come to terms with her fears by herself. I'd say it was on quality with the average of S6, and still probably the best one of the season.

I feel you mister. I always just loved the comfiness, and the day to day creations of writefags and the like, so for me its no big deal, so long as fags can craft something decent out of the shows premises. Shit like Revenge, Sperglight, and Twimom to name a few, are not even solid memories in my mind, and everything else less memorable has slipped away completely, but as long as the show retains the potential for interesting, comfy deviations, then I'm certain someone will step up to the plate to refill our hearts and minds with whatever joy we once had. My only fear is that the eternal constant of time will inevitably wash away any hope for this.
