There was definitely escapism involved in its initial appeal

These days it's more just innocent fun - it's a light hearted show that acts as a distraction from the cynicism of life for half an hour

I don't watch the show, and I'm involved in the fandom only to the extent that escapism drives me to fill the huge gaps in potential left by the creators.

To be fair though, I feel the exact same way about Transformers, and would probably feel the same about the Mega Man franchise were it not for The Protomen/The Megas. In the end I just love filling the gaps in official canon with my own creations or the creations of others.

seasons 1 to 3 - it was new and unique and cute, and the characters were usually really likable. They cared about each-other, most of the time, and it felt good to see such kindness. It was a relief from depression.

seasons 4 and 5 - waifu. The characters weren't as kind anymore and friendship didn't matter as much, but I still got joy from seeing my favorite character.

seasons 6 - I don't love the show anymore

Not that anon, but personally I dislike her because she has oddly strong magical talents that have never really been explained, poor motivation for her villainy, odd characterization (so is she a sociopath or isn't she?) and the fact that episodes either focus on her or ignore her completely, with no middle ground for some reason. Oh, and we're also told that she's friends with the mane 6 but we've only seen very short glimpses of this, so I find it hard to believe. As a result her relationship with the mane 6 feels weird and forced.

I don't. The writers smeared abortion scraps over a canvas and called it MLP:FIM after Season 2. There have been good moments, but I just don't like the show anymore.

If you do, well... great. Invalid fun is a myth. But whatever the show was before Season 3 is no longer around.

And I'm fine with that. The disease-spreading period and the daydreams and fantasies are what keep me going anyhow.

I actually remember the reason why I liked this show in the first place. Recently I started to Wakfu, and the words I would described it as a simple, but interesting cartoon. And that's why I'm in to FiM in the first place. To me it was a simple, but interesting cartoon. I was never too big on the fandom back in late S1/early S2, I didn't have a waifu at the time, and I really didn't pay too much attention to cute ponies doing cute thing (I still don't).

Not that anon, but really, she was add in a really shitty way. At the end of S5, we're told she is sorry for what she did, and that S6 was going to be the teacher student lessons akin to S1. How many Glimmer eps do we get? 3. no the opening is not a Glimmer ep, nor is the heart warming ep, nor is Times Changeling. Not only that, at the beginning of the season she's so scared of Sunburst finding out what she did, she doesn't want to meet him. Fast forward to her first ep, and she forces Big Mac to talk, because she like to have a conversation. Fast forward to her second eps, and she full on mind rapes ponies. And somehow the final is trying to play off how much shes has grown. Where? if anything she regressed, to a similar if not worse state than where she was in S5. Honestly most people wouldn't care about Glimmer if she was written adequately, I'm pretty sure no one would care about her, but her waifufags.
