There is a sound of a bell, and Sugar turns around and grabs the food off of the window where the husband and just placed it. Emerald tries his yam salad is a bit surprised it's spicy. Not disappointed though, it's quite tasty!

"Huh, what's in these pancakes?" Ruby says through a mouthful of food, looking down at her plate, "It's not bad."

"Them pancakes are made with cassava. It's uh Zebraland staple! What did Ah tell ya, pony-zebra food fusion!" Sugar says proudly.

Emerald asks Sugar if there is a good place to get a gun and gunpowder, or if she knows of a good place to go for alchemy supplies.

"Hmm... Guns are them goat weapons aren't they? Yew prolly won't find anything like that this far into the Zebralands. Who knows, yew may get lucky though. Just warnin' yew, It'll probably cost ya a pretty penny!" Sugar says guffawing, "As fer the alchemy stuff, Ah don't know too much about that kinda thing. Ah see the shops everywhere though. Hey honey!"

The mare then turns to the window, and the zebra chef looks at her.

"Yew know any good alchemy stores 'round here?" She asks him.

"Can't say I do." The chef says, going back to his work.

Sugar turns back around with a shrug and says, "Sorry."

He tries the pancakes, and he has to admit that they are good, though not all that different enough to actively seek out cassava for.

Emerald turns back to the mare and asks how long the attacks have been happening.

"Oh, a few weeks Ah reckon." Sugar says, tapping her chin while deep in thought, "The guards didn't really know it wuz happenin' at first. Most of the disappearances were call girls. But then more ponies went missing, and now here we are!"

Emerald asks if the guards are making any progress catching them, and if any of the ponies have been found.

"M-mah stars... This is a bit of a heavy subject for a foal ain't it? Come now, let's talk about somthin' else." Sugar says, looking a little sad.

Emerald asks if zonies are a thing, or if her 'trying' was more about adoption.

"Yeah, Zorses exist." She says, blushing and waving a hoof, "Not this ain't a subject for foals neither!"

Emerald sighs and asks how far the temples are from here, and whether this part of town is mostly pony or if it's pretty mixed.

"Yeah, the temples are a fair walk for this time uh night. Hiwot's temple is a bit closer seein' as it's in the center of town and all. And yeah, this part o' town... Or Ah should say part o' the town to the east and slightly south from the dinner is mostly pony."

Emerald asks if there is any dessert.

Sugar winks and says, "Now Ah got ya there! We got the best Malva cake in the city!"

She quickly orders one, and then turns back to Emerald and Ruby and says, "I'll give ya the dessert on the house."

The Malva cake is quite good. It's sort of like a apricot pudding with a nice caramelized exterior and spongy interior.

Emerald enjoys each bite of the dessert. He can feel a food coma coming along, and decides he'll probably go check out the stores tomorrow. He doesn't want to get foal-napped after all, and he is getting a bit sleepy. For now he guesses he'll enjoy what's left of his meal and then head to bed.

Emerald asks when the temples and stores open in the morning.

Emerald and Ruby discuss next what to do, and surprisingly Ruby also agrees that they should go back to the inn.

The pair walk back to the Inn, looking everywhere to make sure no one jumps out of the shadows at them. They arrive, and make there way up stairs.

On the way they spot Joyride at a table. She seems them and gives an acknowledgement via a raised glass and a nod.

Emerald carefully walks over to the window and takes a look outside. The window looks into the back of the inn, and there doesn't appear to be anyone out there at the moment.

Emerald hears a yawn from behind him and some shuffling, and he turns to see a bleary-eyed Ruby looking at him.

"You going to breakfast? Wait for me..." She says, slowly getting out of bed and stretching.

The two make their way downstairs. The bar is empty now except for the occasional passed out zebra and what he assumes are other guests at the Inn. A zebra waitress comes by and gives the pair a menu. Ruby excitedly looks over the menu, but is disappointed to see that it's all in Zebra.

Honestly, given that guns in this time are just flintlocks, they seem pretty useless. Mainly cause reloading is a waste of time.

Fire arms are both rare and expensive here. Our best place to get them would be goat lands since that's apparently where they are native too (though this is complicated by our current lack of plans to visit there.) Also alchemy is fringe in Witherwater, here in Zebra lands shops are as common as Starbucks and it has its own patron deity.

That's true, but with the throwing knives, I would think it would take dexterity/body to master, and dex isn't his strong suit. Emerald focusing on guns at all is dumb. I don't care about the style cause it's impractical.

Also reloading a flintlock would be a bit more involved and complex than just haveing a bullet reappear in the gun.
I doubt there's a spell to help with that, cause most magic user wouldn't even bother because by the time they're getting into fights they've built up the magical stamina to not even need to think about using a physical arm, besides something light weight like a knife or dagger.

Emerald asks Ruby is she slept well.

Emerald smiles and asks if she likes it.

Emerald contemplates what he wants to do today. He certainly wants to go to an alchemy store, and definitely hit up both the temples. On the other hand he wants to see if he can get his hooves on a gun, or at the very least, some gunpowder.

Emerald asks what Ruby wants to do.

"I dunno. The temples sound kinda cool I guess." Ruby says with a shrug. She then looks around suddenly and says, "Where is Joyride anyway? Do you think she'll want to come along?"

Emerald takes a quick look around the inn and doesn't see her. He then asks the innkeeper. This one isn't the same one that was there last night, and he apologizes and says that he just started his shift, so he isn't sure he knows who that is.

He write down that they'll be out doing touristy things, and to write if she needs them. He then rolls up the letter and sends it off through the flame.

Emerald thinks on it a second, and decides to hit up the Marjani temple first. It is a campus that teaches alchemy after all, so maybe he can find some supplies there. Kill two birds with one stone.

Emerald quickly finishes up his food (with the help of Ruby), and they make their way outside. Unsure of where to go, they head towards the busy looking street they walked down when coming into the city.

The city is still as busy as it was during the night, and the pair make sure to stick close together so that they don't get separated or kidnapped.

Emerald stops a guard during their walk and asks where exactly the Marjani temple is.

"You mean the Leadwood Cathedral? Head south until you hit the Pearl Citadel, and then down Chemistry street. You can't miss it, it's busy street heading southwest of of Main Street, which is the one that the Pearl Citadel is on."

Emearld asks for a bit more clarification, and is told that the Leadwood Cathedral is the Marjani Temple, and the Pearl Citadel is the Hiwot Temple.

Emerald thanks the guard and the pair head south down main street. After an hour or so they pass by the Hiwot temple, which is a large, white, ornate military-building. It has high, thick walls with arrow slits, multiple doors, is situated slightly on a hill, and even from out front Emerald can tell that there is some sort of siege engine atop it.

They head down Chemistry, and after some time come to the Marjani Temple. The Leadwood Cathedral. It's probably the most ancient looking building Emerald has seen in the city so far. It appears to be made of some sort of pale orange clay.

That's not to say that it isn't in use though. Zebras, probably students and temple staff, are constantly walking in and out of the long vertical door nearby.

Emerald and Ruby decide to hit up the classrooms and the library first.

They walk down the thoroughfare and pass by the worshipping area and the labs, and head straight for the big, pillared building at the back of the campus.

They are passed by zebras, and occasionally a pony, all of which are very clearly either students. They are hauling around packs full of books and parchment, talking among one another about the class they just attended. The few that aren't students are teachers. This is easy to tell because they are wearing a uniform of sorts. A purple robe with a sigil on the chest. The sigil is a gold colored circle with Marjani's staff inside it, which is also in gold.

The pair walk into the classroom building and peer into various classrooms. Most of them are teaching alchemy, but alchemy far above Emerald's level. So much so that he can barely understand what they are saying despite speaking Zebra rather well. Other than that there are the normal subjects, such as math and various sciences, as well as literature and Zebra History.

Seeing as Ruby can't understand the lectures, she finds the whole process quite boring, but gets excited when they get to the library. This excitement is cut short however when she comes to find she can barely read any of the books, since the few that aren't in Zebra are way above her reading level.

Emerald finds the place quite fascinating however, he finds a book on various alchemical ingredients in Zebra Alchemy, as well as a famous Zebra book of poems that was mentioned in many tomes in his step-father's library. For some reason though, he lacked the actual book of poems itself.

Ruby sighs and sits on a nearby stool, watching Emerald skim the spines of the books on the shelves.

Attempting to entertain Ruby, Emerald reads aloud a few of the poems from the book. Ruby seems slightly entertained by this, but the colt barely notices.

He finds a nice poem about a mare and a stallion. The mare thinks the stallion is only with her for her beauty, and so transforms herself into various animals. The stallion reciprocates by chasing her down in the same forms, always offering a reason why she is the one for him. Eventually she realizes his love for her and they live happily ever after.

Emerald copies down the poem, and them looks around at some of the alchemy books. They describe places for gathering ingredients, as well as how to identify them. He also finds a book about history of the Zebra gods.

Both of these are far too long to copy... But perhaps he can borrow them for his stay here?

Emerald approaches the counter of the library and asks if he can check out those books.

"I'm sorry, but we can only let books out to students and staff..." The librarian says.

Emerald gives a sad, disappointed face, and the librarian sighs and says with a warm smile, "If you are really serious about having these, you can purchase them at the bookstore in Supply and Laboratory building. It's the one with the fountain in front of it. If you are lucky they'll have some older versions of the books. Those usually go cheaper."

Emerald thanks the librarian, and then goes back to look at something really quick.

The colt is curious to know if they have any books on demons here, but strangely enough they don't. Emerald comes back to the librarian and asks just to make sure and he replies,

"I'm sorry child, our university doesn't deal with that kind of thing." Still kindly, but with a hint of suspicion in his voice. Feeling a bit taken aback about this, he leaves the library with a sad look on h is face.

Emerald and Ruby then make their way over to the bookstore and laboratory. They exit the classroom building and take a left at a building with a rather ornate fountain in front of it. It's three statues of Erlenmeyer flasks with a larger graduated cylinder set in the middle. All four of these statues are shooting water into the air.

The pair make their way past this and into the building. Just inside the door there is an arrow on the floor, one pointing right for the laboratories, and another pointing left that says "supplies".

They head left, and find themselves in an area much like the library they just left, but crammed in with all the books are various phials and bottles of unknown liquids, as well as live animals in cages. On a less dramatic note, there are also plenty of school supplies here, like papers, binders, and pens.

A bespectacled zebra stallion wearing a lab coat walks up to them and says,

"How can I help you folks?"

Emerald asks if they have any books for beginner to intermediate zebra alchemy. He also asks for any books on zebra religion, and what sort of ingredients they have. He also makes sure to say that he wouldn't mind buying older versions of said books if they have them.

"Well, we have the alchemy textbook for the 2nd level students. 'Alchemy 201: Alchemy and the Effects on the Body'. I'm afraid we don't have any older editions of that so it'll be full price. On the other hoof we have an older version of 'A Treatise on Zebra Theology' if you'd like that. They just recently came out with a new edition so we have plenty of them." The zebra storekeeper says, "They cost 114 Rand and 56 Rand respectively. As for ingredients, we have lot's, more than you can imagine, or even legally purchase. It all depends what you want."

Emerald doesn't know what a 'Rand' is, but considering the context he guesses that it's the currency of the region. He asks if they'll take bits.

"We do, but I'll have to check the exchange rate really quick. If you'll excuse me." The zebra says. He then walks away and up a small flight of stairs.

"Hey, this one is in Pony!" Ruby says, looking at the book on Zebra Theology. She then starts to look through it.

Emerald decides to look through the Alchemy book while waiting for the zebra. He wanted to look through the theology one but Ruby is reading it.

He reads a small blurb about antimony. Apparently it doesn't react like most other metals do, and is used very heavily in potions involving electricity.

Emerald attempts to go on and read more, but the zebra trots down the stairs and back towards the two foals.

"Sorry for the wait! It seems the exchange rate is 1.2 Rand per Bit. Are you still interested?" The bespectacled zebra asks.

Emerald does a quick calculation in his head, and figures that it'll cost him 142 bits to get the books, leaving him with 1852 bits at the end.

Emerald decides to purchase the books, but before making anything asks if Ruby wants a pony-to-zebra dictionary or phrasebook.

Ruby looks alarmed at this and says, "No thanks, I'm already having enough trouble with pony as it is!"

Emerald shrugs, and then asks the zebra if there are any ingredients he'd suggest for an amateur alchemist.

"Yes, we actually have a small kit for just such a thing."

The storekeep then leads Emerald to a small area with a few bread loaf sized boxes sitting on each other. He picks one of them up and says,

"This has everything you'll need to make a few small potions. I believe it's a small medicinal potion, a potion that creates light, and one that makes things taste sweet. It also includes the recipes, a small pot, and three disposable dried rodbugs. All this for 60 Rand!"

Emerald does a quick calculation in his head again, and that comes out to be 50 bits.

Emerald purchases the amateur alchemy kit and then asks if he has any semi-rare ingredients he could purchase.

"Well, yeah, lot's. But you need to tell me what you want." The zebra says, giving a small chuckle.

Emerald opens his book up to the goat magic page and thrusts it in front of the storekeep, asking if he has any of these things.

"Crystal? Mushrooms? Ash? Bones? Limestone? Wax...? These are all things that you can purchase pretty much anywhere, not just here. Hmm.. The rarest thing on this list looks to be meteorite, and I can get that for you if you'd like." The zebra says, nodding as he reads the book.

Emerald flips the book back towards him and sees what spells he has uses meteorites.

It appears that two spells use it. Two he is not even sure he can cast.

"Meteorite is 24 Rand. As for the other things we don't really sell them in bulk. You'd have to go to another shop to find that out." The zebra says.

Emerald asks if he knows of any good alchemy shops in the area.

"Nope. I do most of my shopping here when I need it. I get a nice discount after all." The zebra wearing glasses says with a smile.

Emerald pulls out the honey he got from the Wasps, and asks if there is anything else he can do with it other than use it for a charm spell.

"My goodness, where did you come upon that? Well, unfortunately no, that is pretty much it. I mean you can use it for any recipe that requires honey, but you'd better off buying some of the regular stuff for that. Would you like the reagents for that? We don't sell cinnamon or vanilla here, but we certainly have the Ogogoro and the chocolate you need. 80 Rand for the lot." he says with a smile.

Loupe described it as a Love potion, but stated that the love wasn't real and would wear off when the potion did. So yeah, only good for date rape or maybe longer term distraction by way of a date minus the rape, and both probably require successfully spiking the person's food or drink and then getting into position to be the one they imprint on.
