Animation improves steadily the further you get into the show. Episode plots vary in quality, some seasons have more bad ones than others. Before I give you my answer, let me preface it by saying that seasons 1 and 2 are not perfect, and have their mediocre episodes. (So I don't get accused of being a Faust fanboy.)

There is something introduced at the end of Season Two (actually two things) that marks an increase in meddling from Hasbro. This is bad because as Hasbro is a toy company, they will want to introduce locations and characters that were never meant to be there, yet the writers are forced to include for the sake of keeping their jobs.

The quality of the show is hit-and-miss between seasons 3 and 5, leaning towards miss, especially after the season 3 finale. Stories aren't as intelligent, characters get derailed, and lore gets ignored and/or contradicted.

The beginning of season 6 marks a complete and utter nosedive in quality. If you *must* go beyond season 2, then at least stop at season 5. Your time is worth more. Even if you're the most useless otaku NEET this side of the Pacific Ocean, your time is worth more.
