Character development, halfway decent writing.

Discord wasn't created to be with Fluttershy like Flash was with Twilight. They were two separate characters complete on their own. Who then happened to take a liking with each other regardless of their vast differences in personalities.

It is insane that they were able to include a relationship like this in a show for 5 year olds. Think of how simple love is made for them most of the time. (Again, Flash and Twilight for example.)

Fluttershy and Discord is weird, sort of cringeworthy, complicated, and not even really confirmed. Almost like a real relationship between two friends.

They aren't exactly polar opposites. Fluttershy is neutral Good unlike Twilight or Celestia who are Lawful Good. Fluttershy could break the law and steal a phoenix is that mean saving a life. Fluttershy also have her mean personality exposed in "Best night Ever" "Suited for sucess" or "Putting your hoof down". She can be trollish and smug and shes also related to nature like chaos itself. I think she might be the type who fall for bad guys. I don't see FlutterCord as very odd. I'm mostly suprised the show imply the ship between age difference and different races.

It's not confirmed, period. Not even Twilight and Flash are confirmed and they have shown much more obvious interest in each other, almost kissing in the second movie. Fluttershy and Discord are nowhere near that.

Don't get me wrong - I wouldn't care if they did make it official. Neither ship is confirmed, but one of them might be in the distant future.

As for Fluttershy, I don't think she's boring. S5 and S6 did her good and she holds up better without Discord right now.
