I agree that it would be pretty cheap. I guess the show gets away with it because they didn't really want to do a whole thing about fixing the changelings, and just went for the quick and easy 'fixed' the changelings. Would kind of undercut the whole 'changelings can be accepted no matter what they look like, how they live and what they've done' if you dramatically change two out of three of those.

I like the challenges it might present.

The show just had everyone snap and go right to changing because they were eternally hungry, but Thorax isn't special here, most of the lings are so well fed they're not hungry anymore.

I like the idea that it might cause a lot of changelings to really rethink their lives. Like, holy shit, they can just go be NORMAL right now.

But then you've got others that like being changelings. We're not like the show in that we developed more than one of them, so lots have their own friends and personality. We're not like the show's portrayal of Thorax who 'had friends' that he just is going to abandon to be King. What would JJ think about this? What about 77? Would he get his eye back? Would he just be fixed? What about Buzz, or hell, what about 55? Would he lose his flame powers? Would he risk that? What would they think to this super quick and easy option, but it changes literally everything about them? Would those that decided to do it become outcasts because they felt they needed to change from changelings? Would they stay in the Hive? Would they need to, or would they even want to? If changelings don't absorb love anymore, that means they can't be as powerful as ones who do, who can absorb it up to Alicorn levels, so would 42 give it up to look better for them, or choose to be as she is now? 18 just got them to accept her, to love her, would that change if she changed?

The designs are garbage, how it was handled in the show was rushed, nonsensical and terrible with some horrible implications, but it has a lot of potential in a universe where the lings have society, a history, and character.

Yes yes I know how that sounds, but what I meant was that AJ is always at her strongest when her preconceived notions are challenged and she has to adapt to the situation. Not change, just adapt enough to come together in a middle ground. When she's trying to do what's best for both sides, she's at her best, and she develops better because of it. Apple-Crazy showed that sometimes she can think her own answer is the right one, and challenging it with badass fights makes for character development that's both interesting and fun to read.

The issue with the changelings new forms is that it takes all sense of a middle ground away. Either you're new bugpone, or you're classic bugpone. The understanding of their situation she had to do becomes null and void, and her efforts to help them get integrated better becomes a breeze. It takes away a lot of potential, is all I'm saying.

That one is the wonkiest. Because you have to assume that Sunset's actions are not concurrent with Applejack's (who is the main plot and thus the frame of reference for the reader). Her speech and 32 getting shot are in the same timeframe, which is still in the immediate aftermath of the bar fight, Which is why Chrysalis and AJ were together for the politicking, and 32 is why Trixie shows up. We are inter-layered to the point that certain things either take way too long (a conversation) or not nearly long enough (healing) to make sense.

She saw them all, the flames around her, moving in tandem with her words. She saw maws composed of nothing but twisting and rippling emerald fire all move in a unique harmony as that single voice spoke to her. The specters had stilled, even their ever rippling flames down to the faintest of flickers, and each one stared at her.

She saw them, she felt them, every burning orb on her body as the looked her over as if for the first time. Their gaze, as hot as the white blaze within should be, made her feel cold and small in it's wake.

She felt the strength of their emotions, but it could not come close to matching what was within every one of their words.

Devastation.

>What are you talking about?

The raging sea of fire burned low, down to a mere wash of embers and small flames around her singular raft adrift their presence. On her beacon of the fallen tree she stood upon, she watched as the wildfire that had nearly consumed her became nothing more than a dull green glow upon the walls of the cave. They continued to stare at her, a single sight, a single presence, connected by the interlocking licks of green that mingled between the broken black horns and shattered remnants of the once might uprisings that had surrounded her. What had been a land of horror now looked as a desolate wasteland, oozing with sickly colors and blackened, diseased looking things on the ground.

~You would give up so much... for them?~

She saw every lip move once again, and as before only a single voice rang out among them all.

~Did you truly hate what you were... what we are?~

Only one voice, filled with bitterness, with anger, with hate.

~To break off everything, all that connected us, so finally, so completely...~

And with so much regret.

>Stop grousing and speak, damn it!

She moved forwards.

The flames died away.

The power left her, when her final step came down.

~We cannot feel you, in mind... and soul.~

She nearly tripped, so taken back by the nearly sorrowful, painful declaration by the hoard of embers surrounding her.

~You've left us behind.~

When she found her footing once more, even breathing proved an impossible act to pull off. She could not move, she could not think, as the implications sank in as deeply as the love she would once pull in to grant herself power.

~You've become a pony.~

They could not hear her. They could not feel her.

The link, the unseen, interconnecting thread that brought all minds of both brilliant queen and simple drone together as one, had been severed.

>N-no...

The change had not merely been to her body.

It had changed her far deeper than she had ever dreamed.

>I can't... nothing could...

~You've chosen this, to become one of them, to change away from one of us, so completely, so fully. You do not wear their skin, like we thought. This is not a disguise, this is not our magic, this is... you. You're not a changeling anymore, you're a pony, in body, and so much more. You're lost to us... forever.~

The thought alone was enough to make her shudder.

The idea that of all things, her connection to those that had passed, had been taken away made her want to turn at that moment, and charge into the tree with her horn bared, either to force it to bring her back to as she should be or finish the job it had seemingly started.

~Our race, our continued existence, is doomed. With this, we no longer have any link to the world, we will be ignored, we will be forgotten. All of us, all of the changelings that remain, are doomed.~

All that had been, for all their race's existence before, was gone from her.

She could almost feel the energy flowing into her legs, as she prepared to charge.

It was only the last word she had ever dreamed of being spoken that could keep that charge from moving.

The unity, the harmony they had all once spoke with was broken, only one single mouth had moved with both the words that had stalled her body and another that had restarted her shellshocked limbs.

~You heard me, good! It's good! She's finally figured out what others tried to do, and changed! Don't pretend like she's the first, don't even pretend none of you thought about it, but she did it! Not magic, not a new form, she's... she's one of them now, she doesn't have to be like us anymore! It's good that she's finally pulled it off, I just wish it had been me! Then I could have all the power and the love of being one of them!~

She heard hissing, and snarling, the fires raged back to life with an eruption that would put any volcano to shame. A wave, so much like a sudden push of the water, rolled inwards towards the fire that the voice had come from, and with incorporeal limbs, the attacked uselessly to one who could not feel it.

More dark horns erupted from the ground, twisting and retching into more of the unsightly trees that had been birthed before. So unlike before, more rose up to match them, their horn-shaped branches twisting against one another in an unmoving battle, raining fire and chitin down from their dark shapes.

~She's chosen the quickest way to rule, the easiest, the way that will have ponies bowing at her hooves, and you would give up these bodies for the same!~

~Never! I would never let my proud chitin become that technicolor vomit that they call coats!~

~You would change your tune in an instant the moment the hunger set in again! Just for the chance not to be starving, just for a chance to be different and still all powerful, you'd trade it all away too!~

~No, I would not, because unlike you, I'm not a pathetic mewling wimp who just wants to fit in and sing their stupid songs! We are Queens! We are meant to rule as changelings!~

~And how well did that work out for you!? For any of us!?~

The battle raged, crashing waves of fire colliding against one another in eye searing clashing, trees toppled over as they were shattered and ripped from the ground in combinations of the fiery ripples and the spears of obsidian carving into them.

Free.

That word reverberated in the head of the new Alicorn, somehow heard above the storm of battle that raged all around her. That one simple word managed to stick with her, even when she had to move to prevent being caught up in the tempest of war. Her mind drifted from the screams within the flames, the anger roaring louder than the breaking of chitinous tree limbs, and into a place all her own.

She truly was free, now.

Free of everything, anything, that made her so different from the ponies, free of all the hunger, the need for any other to grant her love in this form or any other merely to survive. She had lost her power, her might, but with time she would find the means to unlock the magic within her current form, surely.

And now, she need not even fear what would wait for her, in the unlikely event she was to fall.

She was free, from the history, all she had done, and could start anew. She could begin again in this new form, without a single past sin to cling to her. She could be free from the failures that plagued those who so bitterly battled before her, she could be free from the fear she would never be accepted.

The Tree of Harmony, in this act, had not merely taken away her body, it had taken away all that came with it, all that lied with it. All of her history, all of her past, had gone.

She was free.

In every way.

She could only imagine a whole world like that.

She could only imagine a world where she could be with someone, a particular someone, and not a single soul would think it for any other motive than it was.

She could only imagine a world where love was a luxury to be savored, not a necessity she must constantly fear she would be without due to a cruel twist of fate that followed her so.

She could only imagine a world where that twist of fate was to her benefit.

She had said those very words to the Tree itself, she realized. That ponies had the answers given to them, in simple and easy and risk free ways. Nothing was given up, nothing was lost, all was saved in the artifact of magic that was granted to them instantly. She had claimed this, had been sure of it when spoken as well.

If the solution would come as it always did to ponies, quickly and easily and at the behest of a grand magic that often only required a second of love, friendship or camaraderie, why not live it for once?

As a changeling, she had been forced to give up things, lose things, lose power and command and stability and so much else in fear of attack, and to be wiped out, but as a pony she could live those things.

She saw the battle, the devastation, the war that brewed in this cave.

She saw those arguing for, against, tearing each other apart and mingling together in violent clashes.

She saw warrior Queens, who had once thought themselves invincible, now down to petty fighting.

She saw what she had always known, never doubted. This fighting had been their lives. It was to be her life.

It wasn't, anymore.

~We are broken! She... is finally whole.~

It had been the only line she had heard from the battle, the only part she focused on or had even noticed, but it resonated with her.

She doubted.

For once in her confident life, her sure nature, her stern resolve, she doubted.

When she thought of her subjects, her confidence to rule wavered. If she were to be free, she would have to be free of them as well, for there was no way to change them as she had been, and retain their control. She no longer was sure if that was the vile disgrace of an idea it had been before.

She was no longer sure of the might of a Changeling Queen.

It had been a whisper, so light it could have easily traveled on a summer's breeze, but powerful enough to break through even the war of the greatest the changeling race had to offer in their end.

The word broke the storm like heavens light parting the clouds, and the rage died down. The flames lost their intensity, they lost their heat, hissing as they dwindled down before her very eyes.

Before the battle had begun, they had been little more than what would pass for a campfire. As she watched now, she struggled to call them even that.

The embers before her, tiny licks of fire that just barely formed the outer lining of the Queen's body, felt cold. Those that had burned so hotly in their battle now stared with eyes that would not form, and felt empty.

The river of fire had dried up, and left little but broken bits, and shattered pieces of what had been mighty spires on the ground.

~We said... leave.~

Half of them had moved, half had not.

~Leave back to your precious ponies, coward.~

The others had reserved their scorn until then.

The emerald glow parted, offering a stretch of blackened and twisted path before her. Smoke rose up in tiny wisps from the scorched line, carried towards her by what lie at the end of the burned road.

Light, and a cool breeze.

She could feel it, even from her place so far within the cave's mouth. The soothing wind that felt so unlike the stench she had been within for what felt like days, weeks even. The light was so warm, so unlike the searing heat that had surrounded her. Everything about it was so different from the darkness she had been locked within since her request. It was so nice.

Before she even realized it, she heard crunches beneath the hoof she had not known she had moved, and the light grew closer.

~Go on... leave us behind, as you wanted.~

Like a moth to the flame, she followed that dark path.

The sides beside her were evenly split with dim flames that formed into the shapes of those that had vexed her so. On one, jealousy, regret, longing and even a bit of begrudging acceptance. The other, bitterness, hate, anger and disgust. Neither said a word, neither side did anything but watch her, as the made their feelings known only with a look.

Both felt perfectly valid, she realized.

The road felt longer than it should as she moved forwards with every step towards the exit, the light, the world that would accept her now as it never would have before.

Towards the final barrier between her freedom, and cement her change, forever.

There was a heaviness in her legs she could not attribute to the fact she no longer had holes in them.

Soon, she could not even bring herself to look at the side that scorned her. It wasn't long before she could not look to the ones who accepted her either.

Whichever side, they had been monsters, backstabbers, liars, cheaters, traitors, and far worse than that, either side, and now she could be free of all that had come with them.

She could be different.

Her leg lifted, and she prepared to leave her subjects, her crown, her kingdom behind.

She could almost feel the sun on her fur when she lifted that leg slowly, and began to move forwards. She might have passed through, continued on, had a single voice not spoken up.

~Off to the pony you gave us up for, coward.~

She froze.

The insult did not reach her, rolling off as so many had before. It was the other word, the thought that came with it, that stayed her hoof.

She had given up for them, more than once. She had lost precious power for them, more than once. She had done so much for them.

The Queens of old had been so sure that her movements were the dance of a puppetmaster who saw fit to direct her towards the path of easiest victory, that she danced to protect them only to one day steal their power, and take all that came with them. Every act had been decided before she had ever moved, that is what they had claimed.

>...but I'm free now...

If they had spoken truth, or disgusting lies, she could not know.

What she could know was this moment, and what she felt inside of it, and know it was truth.

Her eyes closed, and she thought of them.

All of them.

She looked to the thing she brushed aside, or overpowered, or simply ignored, and she looked deeply.

With her heart unbound by changeling vices, her body without the hunger for love, her mind unclouded by any control real or of falsehood, she looked.

What she found made her eyes fly open, and the world seem even brighter than it had been.

>...it's the same...

What she felt in her chest that beat with a new heart had not changed. Her body, her mind, her soul had shifted, but something had not.

>It's... it's the same...

What lie within that heart, whatever shape it took.

Her hoof turned, letting her look upon what it had become, what she had become, and what had been left behind.

>...It's still there...

It had not come easily. It had not come quickly. It had not come from a spell cast upon her, an artifact to tell her the truth, or a light that sang all she needed to know.

All the same, the answer had come.

>...there's nothing wrong with me.

The answer she had sought, all she had been seeking even if she had not known it, was there.

She turned away from the light, and looked on into the darkness.

She watched their confusion, their disbelief at her words, vague not from choice, but from being unable to articulate just what 'it' could mean without a thousand words to sing to those who listened.

They waited, and they watched.

Not a one of them was still when she turned away from the light.

>And I know what I want to be.

She stepped back.

They were upon her.

Both sides cast aside their conflict, all battles long forgotten, and reignited with a fiery passion as they charged her as one.

As one, they consumed her in a twisting vortex of flame that offered no escape.

This time, the flames did not roll off, it did not fail in what it sought to do.

It took hold, and it burned her new form.

>Ahhhh...ahahahah...Ahahahaha.....AHHHHHHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

As the fur, the skin, the muscle burned away and was cast off into the rolling wind of the fire, she laughed.

>AHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Her skin peeled off in waves, blackened and cracking as it fell away in painful strips, and through it all she laughed.

>AHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHH!

With a scrape of her hoof, the last ash was ripped from her face, flowing upwards into the cackling wave of spirits and a familiar visage looked on to them.

>AHHHHHAHAHAHHAHHHHAAAAA!

The skin had burned away, and what stood beneath it was what she had always been.

What she knew she should be.

~YOU HAD YOUR CHANCE, NOW WE SHALL RULE AS ONE! YOU ARE OURS!~

The vortex collapsed in a racing wave of emerald flame that sang with unnatural cackling laughter and mocking joy, the pointed flame dancing with the visages of a dozen of the mightiest creatures long since fallen.

She met them, with a wave of her hole ridden, chitinous hoof.

With that one swing, the wave was parted around her.

>And I am the Greatest Queen to ever live!

Their howls of fury shook the darkest depths of Tartarus itself

>HAH!

Her head jerked upwards, mere seconds before another wave could head towards her freshly green colored, exposed back. She rose like the royalty she was, a pillar of stone rising her above those who would seek to consume her and beyond their grasp.

They swirled beneath her in waves, a whirlpool of the hottest fire ever to burn save Celestia's sun herself at her hooftips, yet the smirk of confidence never left her face.

>We are not broken.

With a grandiose rise, her left foreleg swung upwards into the air, cascading the roaring tempest of flame to her side up into the air before it could reach her.

>We are not monsters.

She let out another laugh when more cackling forms in the fires made their way to her exposed side, only to be cast into the air as their brethren had by a single hoof's swing.

>But we're not good either! We're not saviors!

She reared back, wings flaring as the whirlpool picked up speed, and began to rise.

>We're not good, we're not evil, we're whatever we want to be! We're changelings, we shift, we adapt, and we change you fools!

The fury below reached it's peak, and in an ominous wave the whirlpool seceded.

The fire would not stay gone for long, as a tsunami rose up before her.

Her forelegs shot out, reaching up to the sky beyond the cave walls, and she met every drop of fire with a laugh.

Or... you all couldn't see it. You wouldn't let yourselves, or else be thought weak.

With one strong swing, the tsunami split in half.

>We could have ruled the world, all of us! We could have been a race more grand than any other, more powerful than any other, but instead we did not let ourselves feel it, we didn't think it would be real, and we didn't understand when we had it! We saw it as a tool, we saw it as just another power in our arsenal we thought perfect, but it's so much more than that.

On either side of her, they screamed, wailed and roared, a thousand faces of a thousand generations, and they all gave her scorn.

>We can lie, we can deceive, we can do so much worse... but we can change too. We can be different, we can be whatever we choose! The world changes, it keeps changing, and somewhere we forgot that we were the best at that. Somewhere, we lost our way in the search for conquest and power. We saw the grandness behind us, and we ran back to chase it, instead of moving forwards! There is a time when history is a foundation, something to build, something to admire. And a time...

She gave them something much stronger, when both front hooves shot out in opposite direction.

>To leave the past in the dust, and become more than they ever dreamed!

Her hooves, shaking with the power they had used, were slow as they came to rest on her chest. With their every movement, the ocean was brought together, their cries dwindling as they were forced smaller and smaller into a single point.

When her two limbs reached her heart, barely anything remained of their fury.

>...and I won't do it alone. Because unlike you, I know I'm not broken.

No flame, no matter how hot, could burn away the moisture on the edge of her sight.

>Because they felt it, and I can feel it too, even if I don't understand it.

At last, the fires of the cave were down to a mere tiny pile, a flicker in the middle of the cave.

>You could have felt it too, once upon a time... maybe you did, and maybe it could have saved you, all of you, but it's too late for that. I can't worry about the past, there's a future to worry about ahead.

She descended on buzzing wings, slow and steady, until she came before it.

>...my subjects are waiting for me to go back with a way to build my kingdom. In your number, I can find it, I'm sure. Accept it, and save what remains of your race. This is the command of Queen Chrysalis, ruler of the New Hive.

In that ember, that tiny burning flame, she heard her response.

~GO FUCK YOURSELF!~

It was not as she hoped.

~You think we're going to believe you can do anything for us!?~

~You think we'd believe you!?~

~HA!~

Sadly, it was as she expected.

~Prove it, if you're so sure you deserve to be Queen instead of us!~

~You denied us the way for the brilliance of the Hivemind to at last bring this world under our glory!~

~If you truly think yourself so much better, prove it! Prove you are worthy of what you think you deserve!~

The embers dimmed, and she could feel the sensation she had not even noticed was there begin to dim with it. The connection, whatever it was, was slipping.

In the dying light, she could only make out the barest, faintest, yet instantly recognizable smirk.

~I believed in you, whatever it was you chose.~

She couldn't remember the last time she had smiled like she did.

>HAH! Trusting me with something serious? I probably got the wrong ling on this one, if I remember right you wouldn't trust me with a pot of water until I was flying on my own.

~I don't have to worry so much about self preservation now, I suppose.~

>HAH!... So, this the part where you say you're proud of me?

She didn't hear anything from the other as they flickered away, the dying light all but gone now. All she could manage was a smile.

The last Queen knew the exact moment she had seen the same once in a lifetime smile on the one before her.

It had been the last thing she had ever seen form her.

>Do you at least think I can pull this off?

The bottom of her body vanished, the last of the flames gone, but just before the same dispersal reached her mouth, she heard one last word.

~HAH!~

It was all she needed to hear.

>Hah, yeah...

A part of her was glad the fire had gone, and the last light that had connected the two worlds had dimmed.

She would never hear the end of it if they had seen her cry.

>...love you too.

At last, the cave was cold, and dark, and silent.

Meaningfully, she tapped her chest, her hoof shaking in uncertainty.

When the tree began to sparkle again, she couldn't help but jump.

>Wait, wait! I take it all back! Don't send me back in time or something, I'll figure it out!

She swore she heard a musical number, like windchimes, as the branches began to sway.

>Phew... good. Guess... guess I should thank you... Or not, that was pretty damn awful. Ahhh, we'll call it even.

The music grew louder, yet lighter and more melodious.

>Hah, well with that settled... do you mind if... if I sleep here, I think, wooo...

Her legs failed her, the brief pauses as her mind went blank growing longer, and she had to force herself to trot closer to the glowing tree.

>Think I need a... minute or two.... just gonna...

She couldn't make it, plopping down hard at the tree's base, before curling up as she lay.

>Just gonna... sleep it off...

Soon, the darkness was coming for her again, a far kinder one this time, and she could not fight it off.

>...thanks.

The last sound she heard before it consumed her was that same magical twinkling.

The moment after, she fell into a pleasant, empty abyss, and at last she could rest.

Why she needed to be changed, why they need to be there, and what the heck just happened all fit together, and for that, I'm impressed.

All the imagery in this was fantastic. The sense of dread from the surroundings, the clever use of two very specific forms of environmental changes, the fire and the horns, down to the unique way each one walked was downright gorgeous. Fuck, my imagination went wild just trying to picture it all, I can only guess at how it looked in keikaiku anon's head. And in true KA fashion, all the stuff that didn't make sense made sense, and it all fit together beautifully, and there was a heartwrenching/warming scene at the end before a touch of comedy topped it all off. We literally had Chrysalis out in the snow for who knows how long leading up to her orb room and the fight with sunset. She didn't do anything, didn't contribute to anybody's character stories or Arc, and she only showed up once a thread maximum.

Didn't help, and it is not going to. Lack of a character does not mean automatically more stuff for another character. That's not how anything works at all. It makes no sense even, How would lists of one character somehow result in another one being interesting? Isn't the whole idea that you need and inspiration and stories?

Applecrazy's battle was just plain better in every way, more intense, more action packed, more creative and more back and forth. The three action scenes in CC, while good, simply didn't have as much punch, and that's saying something when one of those scenes was a ghost civil war!

And I say better surprises for the first simply because we kinda know KA is going to pull some twists and turns on us now. It's like, they're still shocking, we still don't see them coming, but we know somewhere on this road is a lot of surprises to jump out at us. With Apple-Crazy, it didn't seem to be going in that direction, so the first time she kicked the tree and the apple fell down it was genuinely shocking.

Apple-Crazy offered a different, more moral based dilemma of what she would give up to save the world, and CC offered a dilemma of what she would give up to save her own fate.

Hands down though, the imagery in CC tops.

But DAMN if the more down-to-earth but still badass changes during the AC fight weren't aces.

In short, Apple-Crazy in more areas, and it's better paced and had better buildup overall.

I still like Apple better, if only because it was such a huge event to FINALLY have Chrysalis and AJ cut loose and just go at each other. We built that shit up for years and it delivered.

Hellfire was a unique way to show Chrysalis's inner doubts and make it more interesting than whinging about it or whining and moping, but it just doesn't have the hardcore balls to walls thrill level that had. It was fantastic, but it wasn't as fantastic.

Calm your rolls son, I just meant it was all internal struggle because there wasn't a big exciting fight in the middle of it, Applejack did less struggling with herself in the same timeframe because she was busy being awesome. To say she didn't struggle with herself is to sell what she went through short, it was still deeply personal and important to her character, it just didn't spend all of the time on it solely, and as a result Chrysalis examined more facets of her personality and her life than Applejack did, by a slim margin but the margin is there.

And yeah, Hellfire(which is a perfect name and now what I am calling it) was more intricate, in that it didn't explain everything up front and certain scenes seemed out of place until given proper context to show how they fit in. Apple-Crazy was much more linear with things happening as a direct result of actions that follow a clear pattern.

It was a title she had worn proudly for years now, and one she thought she had understood. For it was true that she had faults, more than she ever wanted to admit to herself or her friends, she fell short in so many parts of the first side of that title, more showmare than pricness most days. She was not perfect, not always of regal grace, and not the most powerful or wise, but she had always thought that no matter what, love was something she had understood.

If she truly had, she knew now she would have understood that thinking such a thought at all was lunacy.

None could ever completely understand such an emotion, she had come to realize. All of the ways it could bend, create, destroy, inspire or be twisted to hate could not be explained, even on a font small enough to fit on a grain of rice, and written down across every inch of the shining luster of the moon.

None could ever truly understand it.

But she was the Princess of Love.

And it was finally time she made that meant something.

Above Canterlot, above Equestria, too high for any to see, she cast her spell.

It had been one she had feared since she had discovered it, one hidden away so tightly even her beloved had never known of it's existence. She had shared it with none, let no others hear the first weave of it's magic, and tried her very best to forget it.

She could not, and now she understood why she should not.

The end result of her abilities to read the magic of Love in tangible form, the culmination of her years of work in the one area she felt passion for unmatched by anyone else in the world. A spell wholly her own, and beautiful in it's splendor.

Yet terrifying, at the same time.

It was the only one of it's kind, a spell unlike any other. One that let her see as no other could.

Only she, as she was now, as she should have been from the start, could look down on the world and see the love below.

Every being, of every shape and size, held it in their hearts. Every one glowed, barely a dim light against the darkness behind her closed eyelids, like her own personal starry sky that only she could see.

She, the Princess Of Love, could look to them, and see the love in their hearts.

Even with her mission most dire, most important, she felt a sickness in her stomach from casting such a spell. A piece of her would always feel it wrong, to look to another and know what love lie inside of them, instead of learning of it as all should. She had tried to forget it, it seemed cheap, it seemed easy, and it felt wrong.

It still felt that, in a way, but as with all things there was so much more to it now than she had ever dreamed of seeing before.

With eyes that could finally see how little her sight could behold, she understood now.

The piece of them she saw, what she could comprehend and behold with even her eyes unlike any other, was but a tiny piece of it, a tiny shape that barely spoke of the entire world each one held. She could not gaze into their hearts truly, not until they were opened up to her. Her sight did not look through them, it did not reduce them to mere dots before her, but showed her so much more.

She finally saw what she had been missing every time she had looked before.

The lights that flickered were against unending, empty darkness. All around them, it was barren, and hollow.

But they shined.

Despite what covered them, came around them, they shined on, bright as they ever were.

There was a taboo, she knew, to look to others and know even that tiny fraction of their love as she did now.

But she would become a sinner all her life, just to know that no matter how little there was between them, there would always be light.
