It's definitely interesting. The crystals came from equestria though the crack in the portal. It's pieces of the elements of harmony seeking their counterparts to the ponies.

However sunset's is a conundrum. I believe the tree of harmony is responsible for them, but this suggests it has a greater connection then just equestria and spans several worlds, making a new element for sunset. Or celestia sent them through.
