Except FiM was a standalone thing and didn't need a preexisting series to hype its popularity. Equestria Girls absolutely did not need to be My Little Pony. It doesn't even seem like it is, seeing as how in the first movie, we're forced to be reintroduced to all these characters we already should know. Plus, half of this shit was dropped and contained inside its own movie, the "pony up" transformations were never brought up again and now replaced with power ponies shit, the Dazzlings never returned and we will never know more about their mysterious gems that never showed up on FiM either, we have no idea of where Scilight was during the events of the first movie, and we will likely never know what is causing all these Equestrian artifacts and magic to leak to the human world (we can assume it was because of Scilight's hijinks but nothing was proved)

Beyond that, Discord is a chaotic draconequus monster who uses his magic nearly all the time that he's ever onscreen to teleport and bend reality.
