We resume to our magical adventure into Equestria's past.

>The record so far
http://pastebin.com/V2Lg5mfX

Last time we:
>Awoke in a strange shack, unsure of who we were.
>Got in a caravan with a unicorn we didn't know.
>Found out this unicorn was a young, beardless Starswirl.
>Were visited by a mysterious voice in our dreams.
>Read a journal, got a headache and discovered we inhabited the body of an Earth pony named Ghost Scribe.
>Accidentaly summoned the LORD OF FLAMES AND DESTRUCTION, Ifrit.
>Banished the LORD OF FLAMES AND DESTRUCTION, Ifrit.
>Were prejudiced at by a bunch of asshole guards who may or may not have killed our escorts.
>Got lost in the unicorn capitol.
>Met a friendly, middle-aged, inn-keeping mare.

And that's where we left off!

The adventure resumes momentarily.
>>
>>28562228

>It was another hour or so of shopping before you actually managed to make your way back to the Bull Pen.
>At this point you and Starswirl were exhausted.
>The saddlebags Rain had provided you with were now several pounds heavier.
>Filled with all manner of flora and dairy and spices, they weren't really all that heavy.
>But they made chasing after the surprisingly energetic inn-keep all the more awkward.

>"Don't worry boys, I'll have those bags off in a jiffy. Not a literal jiffy, mind you. I'm no speed demon."

>The mare chuckled at her not-quite-joke and reached into a small pouch around her neck.
>She pulled out a key.

>"Let me just unlock the door and we'll be-"
>T H U D

>An armored stallion steps in front of Rain.
>She seems unfazed.
>Though her kind smile is now being countered by a look of absolute malcontent in her eyes.

>"Weel, if'n it ischn't, li'l misssss R-RRR..., Rain."

>The stallion, whoever he is, is clearly inebriated.

>"Hello, Brutus."

>"You hello yourshelf, lil' mishy. Don't tryin' ta gimme nunya 'scuses thish time, I'm gettin' what I want!"

>"And what exactly do you want, Brutus?"

>The stallion thought to himself for a moment.
>Perhaps he wasn't quite sure what he wanted.

"So who's this drunkard?"

>"A sellsword who was never good enough to be a real guard."
>"He comes by every so often, having had more than his fill at the tavern, looking for a shoulder to cry on and-"

>"Iwanna feel yer cervix give way as I pump you fulla mah' warriorsh sheed!"

>"... and sometimes a bit more."

>You can feel a collective cringe as mothers cover their foals ears, and stallions gather around you.
>Some are placing bets as to whether Brutus will be getting what he's looking for.
>You hear guttural laughter somewhere in the distance.

>This guy's attracting to much attention.
>You've got to find some way to get rid of him.
>>
>>28562353
I don't know what we could do. Clearly he's blackout drunk and will probably start vomiting soon. He needs some water and a bed.
>>
>>28562353
>>28562564

>You figure at this level of drunkenness, the poor bastard will probably take care of himself.
>But you'd rather not have him pass out on the floor.
>He's liable to drown in his bile if that happens.

"Miss Rain?"

>"Yes, Mr. Scribe?"

>Rain is trying her best to keep a calm countenance.
>You can see just how unenthused she is by this situation though.
>Brutus is making attempts at a feel or to, but can't seem to figure out how to remove Rain's hoof from his forehead.

"I think we should get this poor stallion some water and a bed. He's going to feel the full fury of his debauchery come tomorrow, and I think that we should make sure it's somewhere comfortable."

>"Well, that's awfully thoughtful of you, Mr. Scribe."
>"Brutus!"

>"Y-Yyyesh'm?"

>"Lie down."

>She flicks her hoof to the side.
>Brutus falls over and hits the ground.
>He doesn't seem hurt.
>The sound of snoring informs you that he's passed out.

>"You boys give me those bags. You've got this lug to worry about now."

>Taking the saddlebags from you and Starswirl, Rain unlocks the Bull Pen.
>You and Starswirl give each other the ocular equivalent of a shrug.
>Grabbing a foreleg each, you drag Brutus into the inn.
>The disappointed crowd begins to disperse.

More to come
>>
>>28562772

>Entering the main hall, you and Starswirl heave Brutus onto a couch by the door.
>Rain heads for what you assume must be the kitchen.
>Haphazardly dropping her saddlebags onto the floor, she turns to you.

>"I must apologize for that display boys."
>"Brutus means well, but..."
>"Well, he means well. I don't hold it against him if he gets a little rowdy every now and then."

>"Anyway, allow me to play the role of hostess for a moment."
>"I don't expect you to pay for Brutus' lodging, but I figure the two of you might enjoy a bit of privacy."
>"Should I put you down for two separate rooms?"
>>
>>28562801

>Starswirl answers before you can think of a response.

>"Two rooms is fine."

>"All righty then. Two rooms, at fifteen bits a night."
>"And of course a special discount for the boys that so graciously helped me with my shopping."
>"So that makes it twenty bits altogether."

>"Fine by me, Lady Rain."

>"Oh, I'm no Lady Mr. Starswirl."
>"Just a tired old mare with an inn to keep up."

>You get the distinct feeling that Starswirl has taken a shine to Rain.
>But that's not really your concern right now.

"If you all don't mind I'll be taking the room left most room."

>"Aye, go ahead, Scribe."

>"I'll bring supper 'round when it's ready, dearie."

>Entering the room, you close the door.
>It's certainly a cozy space.
>There's a bed pressed up against the wall your facing.
>There's also a bedside dresser, a small study desk and a full sized cabinet.
>These rooms must have been designed for extended stays.
>Though you were pretty sure you and Starswirl would just be spending the night.

>You toss your bag onto the bed.
>For the first time in a few days, you're alone.
>Perhaps you could figure out why that phrase in the journal gave you such a headache.
>Maybe even get a little reading in with that evocation guide.
>Or you could always rest until suppertime,
>>
I guess it's a little early right now.

I'll be back around one.
>>
>>28562985
Journal reading it is, I suppose.
>>
>>28562985
Read the evocation guide. This town's too dangerous not to have some kinda emergency defense.
>>
>>28563369
Unless it's a "burn the entire city down" type of emergency I'd rather not bother with it.
>>
>>28562985
>>28563369

>You figure that in a city like this, you'll need to be able to defend yourself.
>So you pull the guide from your bag and place it on the desk.
>You figure there's no better place to start then from the beginning.

>Turning to the beginning of the book, you take note of all the warnings again.
>You rub the space on your face where your eyebrows used to be.
>You remember the fear and helplessness you'd felt on that caravan.
>Perhaps you and Starswirl should have left well enough alone.
>But then again, if you had, you wouldn't know you could see these spirits in the first place.
>You'd just have to take care not to evoke something outrageously and obviously dangerous.

>Speaking of danger, you figure you should go all out when it comes to being safe this time around.
>You recall Starswirl mentioning something about containment circles...
>You quickly flip through the tome, and have no trouble finding the section detailing the aforementioned circles.
>You read aloud to yourself.

"When summoning spirits of any kind, but especially higher leveled ones, it is highly recommended that a containment circle is used."
"The circle may limit an evoked spirits strength and prevent them from achieving their full size, it will also ensure that they do not turn on you."
"The usefulness of is especially apparent on the battlefield. where the power of a fully evoked spirit could, in addition to altering weather patterns and causing general hysteria, lead to excessive friendly casualties."

"Due to the often dangerous situations in which circles must often be drawn, they can be made out of anything, so long as they meet three basic requirements."
"One, they must be circular. Obviously.
"Two, they must contain the appropriate sealing runes."
"And three, and this is perhaps the most important, the circle must not contain any bodily fluids."

More on the way
>>
>>28563904
"In addition, the circle must not be attached or tattooed in anyway to your body. This will result in a binding ritual, not an evocation ritual."

"Well that seems simple enough."

>Reaching into your bag, you grab a quill and parchment.
>Dipping your quill into the ink well, you copy the books representation of the circle as best you can.
>It's rather shabby looking, but you remember the book saying something about how it didn't need to be exact to work properly.
>And it's small enough that whatever you decide to evoke won't calm out large enough to cause any issues.
>But what to evoke?

>You're wary about this whole thing to begin with, so you'd rather summon something safe and simple.
>Turning to the bestiary section, five names immediately jump at you.
>Ifryte, a flame imp
>Shivis, a nymphite of the ice
>Ramuhran, an imp of lightning
>Golet, a miniature sentinel of the earth
>And Diabyan, whose page is rather faded and hard to read.

>What to choose?
>What to evoke?
>>
>>28563976
Hoe about Golet?
>>
>>28563976
>>28564005

>You decide on Golet.
>You like the word the book uses to describe it.
>A sentinel.
>One who guards and protects.
>It's probably the least likely of the five to destroy the inn or if anything goes wrong.

>You remember the phrase Starswirl spoke clearly.
>You need only make minor alterations for what you're about to do.

>You speak softly.
>You don't want anypony to hear you.

"Consurges ex somno tuo et ministra mihi. Golet, cura de terra, vocat te.

>The words do their usual echoing into the vast abyss of everlasting.
>Only this time, unlike during your encounter with Ifrit, the effects of your spoken words are immediate.
>The circle you drew begins to glow a great golden brown.
>Dust and dirt particles, in the air and from around the room, begin to swirl about.
>They congregate in the circle, forming stones that stack upon themselves.
>They link, creating a body and makeshift extremities and, finally, a head.

>From two empty holes in its head, there comes an eerie yellow glow.
>The Golet now stands on the desk.
>It stares at you, and then observes its surroundings.
>Noticing the quill in your hoof, it reaches out.

"Do you want my quill?"

>It nods its head.

"Do you like to write?"

>It nods its head more intensely.
>Could this thing be excited?

>Giving it your and your inkwell, you return to Golets section of the book.

>Again, you read aloud.

"The Golet, much like it's much more powerful counterpart, the Golem, is first and foremost a guardian spirit."
"While it lacks the raw destructive power of it's fellow lesser spirits, it more than makes up for it with an earthen frame that can absorb most any blow, magical or otherwise."
"Golets are also remarkably intelligent, capable of writing and simple, robotic speech. This makes them a perfect choice for one's first evocation, as the evoker can communicate directly with the spirit as opposed to through the Old Language."

more to come
>>
>>28564240
"Golets are also very social spirits, a byproduct of their nature as guardians. They enjoy conversation and are better able to protect you the closer they feel they are to you."
"Try conversing with your newly summoned spirit."

>You begin to look away from the book.

"So Golet, do you wanna have a-"

>You're startled into stopping.
>The spirit has at least tripled in size from the mouse like stature you had summoned it in.
>It holds the quill out to you.
>You're not sure what to do.
>It juts its appendage further out, seeming to insist you take it.
>You take the quill carefully, and notice somethings wrong with the containment circle.
>Its become...,larger?

"You sneaky little devil. Why'd you do that?"

>To your surprise, it answers.

>"Golet not devil. No can talking when very smol."
>"Golet make circle plus big, so can talking to Master. Golet very excited! Never had master before."

>It's voice is rather rough and raspy, but it's distinctly female.
>A female rock spirit.

"So, uh, that's why you wanted my quill? So you could make yourself bigger?"

>"Yes! Golet not big as can be, but this big is good. Make Master look strong. Like big Golem!"

>You blush.
>This thing is complimenting you like some kind of child.

>You figure you should get on this bonding thing.
>But what should you talk about?
>What should you ask it?
>>
>>28564340
So, tell me about yourself, Golet. What are you good at?
>>
>>28564359
>>28564340

>Simple is always a good way to start.

"So, uh, Golet. What do you like to do?"

>She cocks her head slightly.

>"Golet no understanding question, Master."
>"Golet only like protect Master."
>"Golet only can protect Master."
>"It all Golet know. Protect."

>Well this is off to a shit start.
>What else is there...
>You could ask another question.
>Or maybe she could ask some to you?

I'm gonna try to make these more short and succinct so that there's not so much time between responses.
>>
>>28564438
Alright, then why don't you ask me some questions?
>>
>>28564438
Exactly how big is Golet now? Can we let her out of the circle and her keep that size? Not right now of course. Tell Golet that we're in a city that pretty much hates us so it should be good to have her around. Also introduce ourself.

I propose to name her Golette.
>>
>>28564539
She's roughly the size of a small dog. And I'll keep the name in mind
>>28564438
>>28564438

>You get the feeling that asking the Golet questions will result in similar results each time.
>So you decide to flip the script.

"Hey, Golet. Do you wanna know some stuff about me?"

>The Golet's stone face seems to convey excitement.
>At least, as well as a face made of stone can.

>"Golet have many questions. Ask Master many things!"
>"First, Golet want know where master bring Golet."

>Her toddler babble is a tad hard to understand, but you catch the gist of it.

"We're in the city of Aurus, the capitol of the unicorn kingdom. It's a very wonderful, but also very scary place."

>"Golet protect Master. Keep scary away!"

>Damn this things cute.

"Keep asking, Golet. I have many answers to give."

>"What am Master doing in unicorn capitol, if no am unicorn?"

"I'm here with a very dear friend. His name is Starswirl and he's looking to become the court wizard."

>"What are court wizard?"

"Well, it's kind of like a pony who uses magic to learn things and protect other ponies."

>"Starswirl am protector? Starswirl am like Golet?"

>You laugh softly.

"Yeah, I guess he is."

>"Golet want meet friend-protector Starswirl!"

"I'd love to introduce you, but now's not a good time."

>You look at the enlarged containment circle.
>You finally think you have a question for Golet.

"Say, Golet? Just how much bigger can you get?"

>"Golet can get many bigger. Not as bigger as Golem, but still many bigger."
>"As big as Master!"

>Just then you hear a knock at your door.
>Someone's coming in!
>What do you do?
>>
>>28564844
The guide said that most ponies can't see evoked spirits.

That being said, ask who it is.
>>
>>28564844
Hide, Golette, and observe. Don't make your presence known unless I specifically ask you to. This may be Starswirl and I think I should introduce you to him.

>You bring your head close to Golet and whisper to her.

"Make yourself as quite and unnoticeable as possible. I don't know who this is, or if they'll be able to see you. Whatever the case, just sit back and observe until I say otherwise.

>"Yes, Master."

>Golet collapses into a small pile of rocks
>You close the evocation guide and position yourself so that your body blocks the majority of the desk.

"Who is it?"

>It's me, Rain."

>"And Starswirl!"

>What could both of them want?

"Come in."

>The door swings open.
>The two of them stay planted in the door way, thankfully.
>If they came in you wouldn't, you'd have a remarkably hard time hiding what you'd been doing.

>"I was just about to start cooking the meals for tonight when I realized how rude I'd been."
>"I completely forgot to ask what you wanted for supper!"

>"And I'm helping."

>Starswirls addition was somewhat confusing and unhelpful.
>His attire was equally confusing.
>He had traded his cloak for an unironically feminine apron and mismatched chef's cap.
>He seemed happy though, so you weren't going to question it.

"Well, I'm rather partial to roasted corn. Oh, and steamed carrots are always good. I'd have to say my absolute favorite meal is Daisy-break salad. Do you think you could make some of that?"

>Rain beams at you.

>"Of course, dearie."
>Come now Starswirl, there's work to do."

>"Aye, Lady Rain".

>They leave, closing the door behind them.
>>
>>28565061
Whew. Ok then. Let read some more of our journal and start writing in in ourselves, covering what's happened since the last entry.
>>
>>28565061
"Alright, Golet, you can come out."

>The pile of stones takes its previous form.

>"Which friend were Starswirl? Was it pretty mare?"

"No, that was somepony else."

>"It was funny talk stallion? He dress strange."

"Yeah, but not usually. I don't know what he's doing, but he's happy, so I'm fine with it."

>"Master am very kind."

"Thank you."

>You and Golet sit in silence for a moment.
>You're staring at the ceiling and she's staring at you.
>You decide to look something up in the tome.
>You open it back up to the page on lesser spirits.

>You read silently this time.

>To name a spirit is to provide it with the greatest honor. For lesser spirits, it is the equivalent of being made a king.
>As all lesser spirits are named after their greater counterparts, being given a name to set them apart from others is a great honor and should not be done lightly. Once given a name, they will regard you as a god.
>For you are the being that set them apart from the rest.

>You contemplate the decision you're about to make.
>You're probably being hasty...
>But should you?

Note: we're deciding if we should name her, not what we should name her
>>
>>28565254
Oh shit, sorry. I wrote the entry before I updated. I waited like a twenty five minutes without response
>>
>>28565313

>You shake your head.
>You're moving a little too fast with this.
>She's cute, and she's clearly devoted.
>But naming is a step too far.

>"Master? Are well? Need Golet protect?"

"Hmm? Oh, no, I'm fine Golet. Just thinking about some stuff."

>You close the tome again and push it to the side.
>It now sits opposite Golet.
>Reaching into your bag again, you pull out the journal.
>Now would probably be a good time to check out that page that gave you a massive headache..

>You scoot closer to Golet, showing her what your looking at.

>"Golet read with Master? Golet like read."

"Yeah, you're gonna read with me. Just read along with me, these five words, see?"
"And let me know if you feel anything."

>She nods.
>You brace yourself for pain as you bring your eyes to the page.

Stopping here for now. I'll either be back later tonight or tomorrow . Glad people are still enjoying this.

Ain't Golet a cutie
>>
>>28565658
Goodnight, and thanks for running.

This looks more like a "to be continued" than a prompt so I'll wait and see what happens tomorrow.
>>
Nice work running earlier than usual. I had fun.

Golet definitely a cutie.
>>
>>28565658
>>
Wonder would we be able to summon even more types of spirits in the future.
>>
>>28567990
Sure, but I think we've got what we needed- A pocket pistol, if you will. There's no need to risk raising havoc when we've already summoned a golem-ette.

>As you read the words on the page, a ringing sets in your head.

>NEVER FORGET TO REMEMBER YOURSELF

>These five words set something off deep in your psyche.
>Your head feels as if it's about to split open.
>But this time, you don't scream.
>The mouth feels as if it's been glued shut.
>And with each passing moment, the pain only intensifies.

>These are the only words in your mind as you black out.

>Your eyes snap open.
>Your back in that black void from your dream.
>Except it's not such a void.
>There's one thing sitting within the emptiness
>A sofa.
>And on the sofa is..., you?
>Or at least who you were.

>...Who are you?

>As you wander through your existential crisis, you suddenly find yourself sitting on the sofa.
>The dusty brown stallion doesn't look at you, almost as if he's refusing to acknowledge you.
>But then he speaks.

>"I don't know what you're doing back so soon. I'll assume you made a mistake in reading the killswitch."
>"I'll give you three questions before I send you back. Make them count."
>"And please, one at a time."

Who are you, who am I, and how did I end up in this current situation? As in, being in the body of Ghost Scribe.
>>
>>28570631
>>28570750

"W-Who are you?"

>The dusty brown stallion scoffs.

>"I'm you, boy. At least, until this whole ordeal is over.
>"And if you mean who I really am, well I already gave you that answer."
>"And the answer, in case you don't remember, is that I can't tell you."

>Well that was a bunch of non-information.

>"Come on, next question."

>>
>>28570862
>>28570750

"Well, if you're me, then who am I?"

>He laughs at you again, heartier this time.

>"Why, you're Ghost Scribe, of course! What, did you think everypony was calling you that for fun?"

>You just look at him confused.
>Disappointment washes over his face.

>"Already? You've seriously forgotten already? Oh, to think you were so confident in yourself."

"Well, I've got a general idea that I don't belong, but the past few days have been rather intense. forgive me if my memory is imperfect."

>"I'm afraid I can't do that. In this kind of situation, a memory any weaker than a steel trap could get you stranded."
>I'll give you this and this only. Your name was Deb. Deb Seascrolls."
>"The rest you'll have to get on your own."

2/3
>>
>>28570750
>>28570915

>You open your mouth to ask your final question.
>But the stallion that's you but not you raises a hoof to silence you.

>"I can take a wild guess at your last question."
>"You want to know how you got mixed up in all this, right?"

>You nod.
>The stallion placed his hoof on his face and dragged across.

>"Sweet Celestia, I hate having to spoonfeed you like this."

>Celestia..., that name resonates with you, but you're not sure why.

>"To put it simply, you're here to learn. Observe. Live. Absorb all the information you can."
>"Do your best to survive. Create history. That is why you're here."
>"And that's all I'll say about that, because I already explained this, in great detail I might add, before I sent you back."

>"Now, to be honest, I don't feel like any of those were real questions. So I'll give you one more."
>"So shoot. I won't give you another."
>>
>>28570990
If I'm not meant to be here where is the real Ghost Scribe? What happened to him?

I'd wait for a second suggestion.
>>
>>28570990
You said create history, yet my goal is to observe. Do I have to worry about adhering to the past?
>>
>>28571287
>>28570990

>You don't totally understand everything that's being told to you.
>But most of the information sounds incredibly familiar.
>And you vaguely remember once being the stallion that sits next to you.
>Honestly, it's all a little much to take in, but you think you can manage.

>One thing the stallion who is you but not you bothers you though.

"You said create history, yet my goal is to observe. Do I have to worry about adhering to the past?"

>The not-you smiles.

>"Who's to say either action is exclusive from the other?"
>"Observe as you create, create from what you observe. Absorb what you learn and lock it away in your memory."
>"And don't worry about adhering to anything. The past can take care of itself. Time has a funny way of bringing itself right when it's wronged."

>"And with that, I have no more to offer you. We both have lives to get back to."
>"Bit of advice before you go: Leave the journal alone. You've nothing more to learn from it. Store it somewhere safe. Because when your time rolls around, it'll be your only way back.

>"Now please, go. And don't come back for a long while."

XXX
>You awaken.
>You're getting pretty tired of awakening.
>Nothing good seems to come of you awakening.

>Your head still hurts, and your mouth is dry as a bone.
>You must have fallen on the floor while you "slept."

>"Awaken, my master!"

>Golet's still around.
>Which likely means that nopony saw her.

>Picking yourself up, you notice a few things are different.
>On the desk is a large ceramic bowl, containing food of some kind (thank goodness, because you're starving).
>Next to it is a folded note.
>And on your bed is the evocation tome and your journal.
>Rain probably moved all that stuff around so she could bring you something to eat.

>First thing you'd like to do is dig in.
>But maybe you should see what's up with the note.
>You should probably check on your belongings as well.
>Maybe see how Golet handled things while you were asleep?
>>
>>28571525
Check note, ask Golet what happened.

FUCKING DAMNIT WE DIDN'T ASK WHAT HAPPENED TO REAL SCRIBE. FUCK EVERYTHING.
>>
>>28571525
Read the note, see what's up.
>>
>>28571641
>Implying he would have told you anything
>>28571844
>>28571525

>You decide checking the note and questioning Golet should be your first orders of business.
>Picking up the note, you unfold it and begin to read.

>You were sleeping when I came to check on you. Starswirl told me what a long, stressful trip you have both had, and I understand if the both of you are dealing with it in different ways. You conked out before dinner was ready, so I prepared an extra large portion for you to eat when you wake up.
>Sweet dreams!
>XOXO, Rain

"Well that was awful nice of her."

>"No! Mare who leave note am meanie!"

"What do you mean? Rain's such a kind, caring pony."

>"When Master sleeping, Golet keep good watch on Master. Make sure no hurt!"
>"But then meanie mare come in. Golet think she nice, but then she look at Masters book.
>"She look in book and then she look at Golet and then she have angry face!"

>Your blood runs cold.

"Y-You mean, she saw you?"

>"Golet no know. Golet think maybe she just look at circle. Meanie mare no say anything to Golet. Just angry face."

>"But then meanie mare take Masters book, all both of them, and put on bed. She leave and then come back with bowl. Bowl have lots of food, but Golet no trust!"
>"Meanie mare write note for Master. Note have nice words, but mare have angry look, give Master angry face!"

>Oh dear.
>Oh my.
>Oh shit.
>Rain read the tome.
>She saw the containment circle.
>She might have even seen Golet, but you're not sure about that one.
>One of the first paragraphs in that book details what you should do should you ever find the book outside of Negra Beliza.
>If Rain had read that, no doubt, you were on borrowed time.

>You have to figure out your next course of action.
>>
>>28571915
It feels like it's time to make like an apostate in the midst of a burning and go up in smoke!

Aie Get the hell outta dodge before we get caught.
>>
>>28571915
We should talk to her about it before we do anything panicky.
>>
>>28571915
Check in with Starswirl, make sure he knows the food may be poisoned and I think it's time to introduce Golet to him. Then you and he can confront our hostess.
>>
>>28571915
>>28571981
>>28572019
>First things first, you turn the bowl on your table upside down.
>There's a strong possibility that stuff is poisoned, and you're hungry enough that you might absentmindedly take a bite.

>You need to let Starswirl know what's going on.
>You didn't plan on telling him about Golet so soon, but you figure you have to at this point.
>Otherwise it'll just seem like a lot of mindless blabbering on your end.

>You have Golet stay on your desk.
>She protests but it's for the best right now.
>So you calmly and quietly open your door and...
>It's night time.
>Everyponies asleep.
>Brutus is still snoring heavily on the couch.
>You can hear a faint rustling in what you assume must be Starswirl's room.
>It has to be, since it's the only other room with a shut door.

>What should you do?
>>
>>28572133
Knock. This is actually important and can't wait til morning.
>>
>>28572133
Beckon Golet to come with you, then open Starswirl's door, by force if necessary. Even if he's in coitus del flagrante` with some mare, it's a life and death situation. It's also quite likely he's in a fight with attackers.
>>
>>28572133
>>28572133
Get dat door open!
>>
>>28572133
>>28572149
>>28572165

>You don't know what's going on in Starswirls room
>But you know that you need to speak to him now.
>Just in case, you beckon Golet over.
>She's eager to help you, hopping down from the desk and running over to you, like some kind of small dog.

>"Protect Master! Help Masters friend!"

>Her overzealous shouts may have betrayed your presence.
>But if Starswirl is being attacked, it doesn't matter whether or not they hear you coming.
>You need to help your friend!

>You first try turning the doorknob.
>It's locked.
>You're not sure what you expected.
>From behind the door you hear things being tossed around.
>You can hear grunting and labored breaths as Starswirl and his assailant fight about the room.
>There's only one thing for you to do.

"Golet. Break down the door."

>"Yes. Master. Golet break door, save friend!"

1/2
>>
>>28572344
Welp, we know what's going on in there. What happened to knocking?
>>
>>28572344

>Golet must weigh quite a lot, as the door collapses inward without much effort on her end.
>You rush into the room, lit dimly by a single dying candle.
>You see two figures on the bed.
>They seem too wrapped up in their own struggle to even notice that you've knocked the door down.
>Just as you ready yourself to to strike, you hear one of the figures scream.
>It's distinctly female
>And distinctly... aroused.
>Oh.
>You've completely misread this situation.

>As you attempt to back out, Golet speaks out.

>"Master, now! Save friend from meanie mare!"

>You can't see any faces, but one of the figures has very clearly turned its head towards you.

>"SCRIBEWHATINTHEWORLDAREYOUDOING!"

>Shit.
>How do you explain your way out of this?
>>
>>28572440
MC assumed the worst and knocked down the door.

As characters who believe their loved ones are in danger tend to do, he didn't think clearly and dove right in.
>>
>>28572455
We may or may not have screwed up?
>>
>>28572455
Starswirl, I need to talk. It's an emergency, no it can't wait.

>>28572477
I'm a little miffed that my knock suggestion was ignored, yeah.
>>
>>28572455
Oh wow. I didn't think you'd go straight to banging a mare this soon into town.
>>
>>28572455
Sorry about suggesting force-opening the door. The situation remains dire, though. Watch out for attack from his erstwhile girlfriend to prevent him joining your side in the situation.
>>
>>28572515
You know what would make this more funny? If Scribe was a virgin since no unicorn ever wanted to get with him. Can that be a thing?
>>
>>28572545
I thought it was already implied.
>>28572488
I'm sorry your upset

>>28572455
>>28572488

"I could ask the same of you, Starswirl.
What whore is this, that you're laying with, so soon into our stay here?"

>"I'll forgive that just once, Mr. Scribe, as you clearly can't see me very well. But I'd appreciate if you refrain from calling me a whore."
>"I was just taking a shine to you too."

"Miss Rain?"

>"HOY, SCRIBE, EXPLANATION, NOW."

"Right, right. There's been a bit of an emergency. I assumed you were under attack. If you'll step out into the hall with me, I'll explain further."
"And no, it can't wait."

>Starswirl makes a disgruntled noise.

>"Fine. Though I don't know what could have possibly made you think I was under attack."

>"I'll be waiting, my sweet."

>You watch as Starswirl pulls himself of from Rain.
>A resounding pop acts as further confirmation of their dirty deed.
>He dons a cloak for modesty and follows you out into the hall.
>You make an attempt to close the door, but settle for just moving closer to your room.

>"So, what was this so called emergency?"

>He glances at Golet, who has also followed you from the room, an expression of pride on her stony face.

>"And what in the world is that?!"
>>
>>28572661
"That is a golet, a guardian imp I summoned. I fell prey to an odd spell unrelated to it, and when I came to, I found food and a note which seeemed harmless enough- Except that Golet thinks our hostess is up to no good due to how badly she reacted upon finding my summoning circle and the book. She may even try to kill us!"
>>
>>28572661
Since we felt as though we were in danger, we summoned a golett to protect ourselves. However, I passed out earlier and left golett here to watch. She saw the evocation book.
>>
>>28572691
>She may even try to kill us!"
That's quite an accusation without any sort of proofs towards a mare whom Starswirl was just fucking. Let's not say that.
>>
>>28572739
same here, it be more likely we are going to get thrown in jail than anything else.
>>
>>28572739
We just broke his door down and cockblocked him, there's no good telling him we felt afraid of the dark! He'll never speak to us again.

Golet said the mare turned evil-face upon finding our stuff, we dumped out our food due to poison fear- That means we're legit afraid of being kakked in our sleep! He deserves to know that so he's prepared to deal with anything that may come along. Even if it's just us jumping at shadows. After the journal incident I'm not entirely sure we're all that well tied down either.
>>
>>28572761
I'd rather at least try to not look insane.
>>
QM here.

Whats the consensus? Do we go full wackadoo and accuse her of wanting us dead or try to stay level?
>>
>>28572840
Voting full whackadoo, we have golet to back us up. But hopefully only to Starswirl, I don't want to alienate the hostess if she's actually benign. Starswirl needs to know what our imp saw though.
>>
>>28572840
Do NOT go full whackadoo.
>>
>>28572840
I'm this guy again:
>>28572857
There's a definite split. How about this.

We have Golet explain to him herself, just hold her up to his ear and let her whisper everything to him. That way we're not the nutbar here.
>>
>>28572936
Sure. We let her speak first then we explain ourselves.
>>
>>28572661
>>28572936
>>28572990

"That's Golet."

>"And what in the world is a Golet?"

"Well, the tome described them as guardian spirits. I just figured I should have something to help me survive here in Aurus. After all, you won't always be there to bail me out."

>"So you summoned a spirit? After the whole Ifrit incident?"

"An incident I brought an end to, yes. But that's besides the point. The point is, I passed out while I was doing some reading. During that time, Golet saw some things."
"It would probably be best if she explained it to you."

>"And why should I trust this thing?"

"Because I trust i-, her. I trust her."

>Starswirl rolls his eyes, but reluctantly stoops his head down.
>Golet explains everything to him as she did to you.
>It takes a few minutes, during which Starswirl goes through a variety of facial expressions.
>Eventually he settles on one of understanding.

>"I'd question this spirits credibility more, but given that you used a containment circle, I'll suspend my disbelief."
>"And thinking about it, she did seem upset earlier.
>"But she told me you had upset your inkwell and stained the desk, so I considered her brief anger justified."

>You both stand their, contemplating what to do next.

>"So..., how should we confront her on this?"
>>
>>28573207
She said we upset our inkwell? That sounds like we've caught her in a lie. Ask Starswirl his opinion, as he obviously, well, 'knows' her better.
>>
>>28573207
You're the one here who has experience with mares. Besides, you just had your dick in her, I'm sure you can smooth things out.
>>
>>28573207
That's a lie. I didn't upset any inkwell. Do you have any magic for recognizing poisons in food? Cause that would definitely clinch it.
>>
>>28573311
>>28573332
>>28573396
>>28573207

"You've got more "experience" dealing with her, so I think you'd know better than I. But no, I don't think we should confront her just yet."

>"Why not?"

"Did father teach you any kind of poison detection spell."

>"It just so happens he did. Being the court wizard came with many duties, after all."

"Check my food."

>"Really? You want me to check the salad she made? I ate that salad myself and I feel just fine."

"I just need to be sure."

>Starswirl huffs and puffs, but gives in.

>"If you insist."

>He spends what seems like forever going through your overturned salad..
>But he comes back with nothing.

>"From what I see, it's a perfectly normal Daisy break salad. No poisons to speak of. And of course no inkwell spill either."
>"Though if what your spirit said was true, I'm still troubled by the fact that she even recognized the evocation tome."

"As am I."

>"So what do we do now?"
>>
>>28573580
We confront her? I dunno. And really dude? I wish I was around to see who wooed who. I bet you we're all starry eyed, sucking up to her by cooking and such.
>>
>>28573580
I say we just return to normal and let him get back to his duties. We've done what we needed to, warned of odd goings on, and since there was no outright attempt to kill us, it's probably safe enough to eat whatever's salvagable of the salad and then get some sleep.
>>
Another split. Do you wanna vote? or should I flip a coin?
>>
>>28573772
It may be best to just leave it for now, but stay cautious of her until we know of her intentions and relations.
>>
>>28573772
The ol' flip-er-oo's fine by me. I'm
>>28573687
>>
>>28573772
I don't mind a coin flip.
>>
>>28573772
Whatever you do, still tease Star.
>>
>>28573687
>>28573580

>Thing is, your not entirely sure what to do
>Your food isn't poisoned.
>And while Rain clearly has knows what the tome and circle were, she's made no attempt to confront you on them.
>All in all, you'd rather be done with this.

"I suppose there's nothing to do.No evidence, no way to confront her. It's best if we just drop this for now."

>"Agreed."

>The two of you sigh in unison.
>Golet just lies on the floor of your room, anticipating when she'll be next needed.

"So, "my sweet", will you return to your lover's embrace. Or is it the good sleep for you?"

>"I don't see how that's any of your business."

>Starswirl playfully boxes your side and laughs.
>His gray muzzle is turning a deep shade of purple from blush.

"No, I suppose it isn't. Goodnight, Starswirl."

>"Goodnight, Scribe."

>Starswirl leaves, closing the door behind him.
>You try to push how he'll be spending his night out of your head.
>Instead you, try to focus on the salvageable bits of your salad.
>You're absolutely starving, and while a good portion of the salad fell out of the bowl, there's enough to satisfy you.
>Finally, extinguishing the candle which seems to have been burning an eternity, you fall into bed.
>Golet sidles up next to you.

>"Golet protect good, Master?"

"Very good, Golet. But I need you to keep protecting. I still don't quite trust the meanie mare."
"Can you keep an eye on things while I sleep again?"

>"Yes, Master. Golet protect while Master sleep. No problem!"

"Very good. Goodnight, Golet."

>As you close your eyes, you contemplate just how eventful the past three days alone have been. This whole ordeal has just barely begun. You have no idea how much longer it will last. As is, you barely have any concept of who you are or what you're doing here. But you'll do it all the same.
>Your mind enters the state of dreams, and two names echo through your mind.
>Seascrolls...
>Celestia...
>Seascrolls...
>Celestia....

>The soft light of the morning sun begins to flow into your room.
>Your sleep was dreamless.
>But at least it was peaceful.
>As you open your eyes, you notice something that isn't quite right.
>Your door is open, though you're quite sure you shut it the night before.

>"Good morning, deary."

>Rain?
>Is she in your room?
>Where could she be?

>You try to get up to look around the room, but there is a great weight on your chest.
>Looking up to see what it is, you find exactly what you're looking for.
>Or rather, who.

"Rain? What are you doing in here? Why are you on top of me?!"

>"No need to panic, Mr. Scribe. I don't intend to hurt you. At least I don't want to."
>"I just need to be absolutely sure of something. I know you have a spirit here. I can't see it, but I know it's here. And I need it to do something for me."

>What could she want?
>>
>>28577119
I'm listening.
>>
>>28577119
>>28577153

>You don't figure you have much choice in the matter.
>But whatever it is, if it calms her suspicions of you, you'll do it.

"I'm listening."

>"Good. Now first, I'll need you to tell me what kind of spirit it is."

"It's a Golet."

>"Ah, good, that'll make this simple then."
>"I need it to write something down. Spirits are inherently incapable of lying you see."
>"And I need to be absolutely sure you're not here for what I think you're here for."

"What do you need it to write?"

>"I need it to write about you. Something that convinces me not to kill you right here, right now."

>You glance over and see Golet.
>She's already grabbed a quill and parchment.

1/2
>>
>>28577188

"Okay, Golet. Write something nice about Master."
"Show the pretty mare how good we are."

>Golet gets to writing.
>Rain watches the spot Golet's in.
>To her it must seem like the quill is writing all on it's own.

>"I'd be less liberal with your compliments, Mr. Scribe. Flattery will get you everywhere."

>She looks at you from the corner of her eye and smiles slyly.
>You'd been trying to ignore it, but she reeks of sex.
>You're too stressed out to be aroused though.

>Golet finishes her note, and brings it over.
>Rain snatches the note from what must seem like thin air
>She reads it aloud.

>"My Master is a very good Master. I have only known him for a day, but he is very kind. He lets me protect him, even while he's sleeping and cares about his friend Starswirl very much."

>"Well, it's not much, but it's enough to convince me."

>Rain pushes herself off of you and gets off the bed

>"I apologize for the misunderstanding. Oh and I'd be careful if I were you."
>"Even the most benign spirits can grow to be quite dangerous."

>She begins to leave your room.
>Should you stop her and ask her what this was all about?
>Or should you just count yourself lucky to be done with it and prepare for your day?
>>
>>28577246
I would like some explanation. You did threaten my life.
>>
>>28577246
>>28577263

"Don't you think I'm owed some kind of explanation? You did just threaten my life after all."

>Rain stops and turns to you.
>Her expression is soft and tired.
>Once again, she just seems like, a kind, middle-aged mare.

>"I wish I could give you that explanation. But that would require I tell you a story that I just don't have the patience to tell."
>"I will say that I've had very poor experiences with the ponies of Negra Beliza. I just needed to be sure you weren't... that you weren't one of them."

>You see tears welling up in Rain's eyes, but she quickly wipes them away.

>"If you don't mind my asking, how did you happen upon such a book? They're essentially non-existent outside Negra Beliza."
>>
>>28577369
It's stolen, if I'm perfectly honest.
>>
>>28577369
>>28577446

"Well, to be perfectly honest, it's stolen."

>Rain's eyes widen with surprise.

>"And how'd you manage that?"

"Not me, my father. My adoptive father, I mean. Stargazer the whimsical."
"Apparently, While he and the King were on a diplomatic visit to Negra Beliza, he just saw the book and snatched it up."

>"He's lucky to have gotten away with his life, let alone the book!"

>Rain raises a hoof to her chin, a look of contemplation on her face.

>"You know, I don't know why I didn't realize it until now, but I knew you're father quite well."

"Did you now?"

>"I did. If not for him, I wouldn't have this inn. But that's a part of that story I'd rather not tell."
>He was such a kind stallion, though he always seemed distraught about something. He would never say what. When he would come to visit me, he would always have a joke to tell and a story to weave."
>"And he would take every opportunity to tell me about his sons, his two precious boys. He lamented over how he never got to see them, but would always mention how they were born for greatness."
>"A very self-deprecating stallion he was, but he held every belief in his sons. He expected they would surpass him in every way."

>She looks to the note on your bed.

>"And if you and Starswirl's current abilities are any indicator, I'd say you're well on your way to doing just that."
>"Good luck, Mr. Scribe."

>With that, she left the room.
>Your alone again, save for Golet.
>It's about time you got ready.

Should we skip straight to the castle, or would you like to check on Brutus?
>>
>>28577619
I don't particularly care for Brutus, let's go to the castle
>>
>>28577822
>>28577619

>Your ready quickly.
>Starswirl won't be up for some time though.
>So you just wait.

XXX

>You've been waiting in the main hall for a few hours now.
>You've been passing the time with staring contests with Golet, among other things.
>Starswirl awakens, a groggy mess.
>He takes a bath and dons his and just like that you're both ready to go.

>As you're about to leave, Rain stops you both.

>"Good luck to the both of you. I expect to hear great things. And please, do come visit. I've taken a liking to the two of you."

>"Aye, we will, Lady Rain."
"Will do."

>"Farewell, my lovely. And farewell, Mr. Scribe."

>Before leaving, you place Golet in the hood of your cloak.
>You don't know who else might be able to see her, or how they'll react if they can.
>Best to be safe.

>You exit the inn, waving to Rain as you enter the streets of Aurus.
>The door shuts, and you turn to Starswirl who's reading the map Rain had bought for you both.

>"Looks like the castle is about ten minutes from here."
>"Let's get going."

>He puts the map away, walking off in the direction of the castle.
>You follow.

XXX

>You arrive at the gates of Castle Aurus.
>They're not as large as the hold walls doors.
>But somehow they're even more imposing.
>As you approach, the two of you are stopped by the two guards, gatekeepers as they were.

>"Halt! State your name and what business you have in Aurus."
>>
>>28578035
Let Starswirl say his piece first, then say that we're Ghost Scribe, Starswirl's personal scribe and companion.
>>
>>28578035
>>28578072

>You do the smart thing and let Starswirl answer first.

>"My name is Starswirl. My sire is the esteemed Stargazer the Whimsical. I'm here to fulfill my duties to the royal family and take my father's place by King Aurums side.."

>"Ah, yes, Starswirl. The kings been expecting you. He's eager to meet you."

>You can't quite tell, but the guard that's remained silent seems to be... stifling laughter?

>"Now who's this filth, standing next to you?"

>He was clearly referring to you.

"My name is Ghost Scribe, sir. I'm Starswirls personal scribe and companion."

>"Personal scribe, 'eh? Well, I don't see what use you'd have for that sort of thing, but I'm not here to judge."
>"Stay close to your friend, filth, and try not to step out of line. Many a guard here would be eager to beat you senseless."

>The guard whispers something to his fellow.
>They nod to each other, and the guard that remained silent beckons for you to follow.

1/2
>>
>>28578287

>The guards horn glows, and the doors open.
>They glide open silently, and reveal an entrance hall.
>He walks in.
>You and Starswirl follow.

>The doors shut behind you, just as silently as they opened.
>You've only just entered the castle, but already you're rather intimidated.
>Every few feet, there are doorways, with guards stationed at either side.
>They glare at you, as though you're very presence is a smudge on the floors of the admittedly immaculate castle.
>You do your best to ignore them.

>After an eternity of clipping and clopping, you arrive at the end of the hall.
>Here lie yet another set of doors, much larger then those at the entrance.
>It takes the combined might of your escort and the two guards at either side of the door to open it.
>But once the door is open, you see you've finally arrived.

>The throne room is simple, yet grand.
>A large square room, with a small staircase leading up to the thrones of the very ponies you and Starswirl had come to serve.
>King Aurum, in his great golden throne befitting his name, his mane, hair and beard a great golden yellow.
>The crown upon his head was a similar hue, and adorned with the finest of jewels.
>His wife, Queen Silvertongue, sat beside him. Her mane was a royal purple, her hair a pearly white.
>Her throne was a shining silver, to compliment the kings gleaming gold.

>They both looked down on the two of you with royal countenance.
>The king raised a single hoof.

>"He's beckoning you both. Make haste, show your respect, and be humble."

>The guard pushes you both forward.
>Upon reaching the top of the staircase, Starswirl introduces the both of you.

>"Greetings, your Majesties. I am your humble servant Starswirl."
>"And this is my friend, scribe and brother-at-heart, Ghost Scribe. I is an honor to be in your presence."

>Starswirl finishes this sentence with a bow.
>You begin to follow, but then the Queen extends her hoof, expectantly.
>Your not sure what she wants.
>What do you do?
>>
>>28578464
We kiss it, of course.
>>
>>28578464
Look to Starswirl in confusion.
>>
>>28578486
By that I mean we follow the proper formal protocol for kissing her hoof. Lightly place our hoof under hers and quickly kiss any regalia she might have on her hoof. If she doesn't have any, then we kiss the top of her hoof.
It's a short, polite gesture, as she's far above our social standing. I should mention to >>28578561 that it's extremely rude to fuck it up.
>>
>>28578464
>>28578486

>You grab the Queens hoof in your own, and give it a light kiss.
>The Queen graces you with a light smile.

>"A lifetime around those of magical blood has done well to cleanse you of filth, Ghost Scribe."

>You know this is a compliment, but all the same it stings.
>Perhaps its just her voice.
>It's so cold and formal, the exact opposite of Rains, who had made you feel welcome, even when she was threatening your life.

>The King speaks up.

>"It's wonderful to have you both here. I've been wildly anticipating your arrival."

>His voice is booming and commands presence.
>Truly a voice befitting a ruler.

>"As have we, milord. We would have come yesterday, but after a harrowing journey such as ours, we felt it best to get some rest before meeting your Majesty."

>"Ah, yes, I heard about what happened. Commander Barques tends to be a tad... overzealous."
>"He sent word that you'd arrived last evening, as well as informing me that he'd apprehended a group of exotic smugglers."
>"I assume these "smugglers" to be your escorts, yes?"

>"Yes, milord. I'd be most appreciative if you'd let them go freely. They risked quite a lot in bringing us here."

>"Of course, Starswirl. Anything for Stargazers son."

>At this point, Jackpot and his crew are lucky to be alive.
>But you wonder if you should mention the increased pay you'd promised them...
>>
>>28578602
I suppose we could ask his majesty if we could speak to them before they leave.
>>
>>28578602
>>28578647

>You clear your throat, rather nervous at what you're about to ask.

"Your Majesty, King Aurum, might I ask you something?"

>Starswirl gives you a stern look, but nopony but you seems to notice.

>"Of course, Ghost Scribe. Stargazer didn't bring you up in conversation as often as he did Starswirl, but he regarded you as his son all the same."
>"Ask, and I will see what I can do."

"I would like to speak to our escorts. I feel I owe them an apology. It's our fault they were beaten so mercilessly and imprisoned."

>The king gives a hearty laugh.

>"It's your fault, now is it? Your fault that the three tribes are so incapable of getting along?'
>"Well, perhaps I should have you executed, and ten all the worlds troubles will be done with!"

>The King sees your becoming uncomfortable.

>"I jest, of course. All I mean to say, is that what Commander Barques did lay outside your control. Outside anypony's control really. It's just the state of things."
>"And before you say anything, I've been informed of their requests for... quadruple pay, was it?"

"Yes, your majesty."

>"They'll have it. Consider it due compensation. I trust this satisfies you?"

"Very much so, your Majesty. Thank you!"

>Your interactions with the King and Queen are going much smoother than you'd expected.
>Even Starswirl seems a bit surprised.

>The king reaches for a bell at his side and rings it.
>Almost immediately, a maid appears at the top of the steps.

>"You rang, milord?"
>"Yes, I did. I want you to show this fine young stallion to his quarters. His name is Starswirl, and he'll be taking Stargazers place by my side."

>"Excellent, milord. If you'll follow me, Sir Starswirl."

>The mare takes Starswirls bags from him and trots off.
>Starswirl follows and and the pair disappears as they turn a bend and enter a hallway to the left of the thrones.

>You feel awkward as you stand there.
>Just you, the King and the Queen.

>You try to loosen yourself up a bit.

>"Now, I'm sure you're wondering why I didn't have Bethabelle excort you to your own room, yes?"

"Well, not exactly, your Majesty. But I am now."

>"Let me tell you why: It's because there are no quarters for you here. I'm afraid, for the time being, there is no room for you here at Castle Aurus."

>You stand there, confused.
>What did he mean by this?

>"Please, don't take this the wrong way, but as close as you and Starswirl are, there is simply no more need for scribes within these walls."
>"In the past thirty yeas not a single spell has been created here within this city or this castle.
>"All the greatest minds have moved on to Negra Beliza. But while I would normally recommend you do the same, I'm afraid as you are, that is also an impossibility."

>Your confusion turns to panic.

>"I doubt, without Starswirl, that you would make it halfway there."

"Neither do I, milord. And with no way to return home in this snow, I'm afraid I'm stranded."
"I can't even do as that Brutus fellow does, and become a mercenary. Who, after all, would hire an Earth sellsword in a city of unicorns."

>"So you've met Brutus, have you? A waste of potential, that one. Would have been a fine guard, had it not been for his terrible drinking habits."

>The king grows silent for a moment.
>He seems to be thinking of something.

>"You don't mind a bit of physical labor now, do you Scribe."

"Not at all, milord"

>"How comfortable are you with a blade?"

"Well, I've never used one, but I could learn."

>"Now, answer me this: How would you feel about becoming a soldier in my army, so long as it meant you could stay in Aurus with no issue?"

"But I don't see any other option. I would be glad to serve in your army."

>The king smiles.

>"Very good."

>He once again rings the bell.
>Another maid comes scurrying up.

>"You rang, milord?"

>"Indeed, I did, Celestabelle. Take Ghost Scribe here to Branch Selection. We have gained another stallion-at-arms."

>"Yes, milord."

>"You have the day to make your decision, Ghost Scribe. Choose wisely, as you only get one."

>You bow to the King and Queen, thanking them for this opportunity.
>You then follow Celestabelle down the same corridor Starswirl had followed Bethabelle.
>She makes all sorts of twists and turns, and you struggle to keep up through the maze-like castle.
>Finally she arrives at an open doorway.
>Here she stops and directs you in.
>You step into the small, almost empty room.

>On the floor, lay three objects:
>A knights helm
>A book of some sort
>And a bow.

"What am I supposed to do with these?"

>"You will know when you know, as those before you have known."

"What if I don't?"

>"Believe me when I say you will, Sir Scribe. The King will expect an answer by supper. I'll be back with your lunch in due time."

>With those words she walked away.
>You're still confused as to what you're supposed to be doing.
>But as you said to yourself the night before:
>You'll do it all the same.

ALL RIGHT FOLKS IT'S TIME FOR ANOTHER VOTE

http://www.strawpoll.me/11371638

Choose what branch of the unicorn army our hero will be joining!

Note: Our ability to summon spirits is not a reflection of our ability to perform other magic.
If you decide on a mage, I'll accept it, but it might not make things easy on us.
>>
All right friends, results are inconclusive for now, and I've got to skedaddle to work.

I'll check the results when I get home and we'll have our answer next time I post.

I hope you have great days. You're all wonderful people.

I'm split between knight or light infantry. Knight cuz erf pony strength and infantry because it's less likely we'll be in the thick of it.

Reminder from QM to

VOTE

Another thanks to everyone enjoying this so far.
>>
>>28580352
If it's still tied when you get back, go ahead and flip for it. I'm not super attached to my decision.
>>
Was going to vote for book. Imagine, an earth pony casting magic, then I saw the note and the results.
>>
>>28581838
Yeah, me too. Still though, ERF PONY STRONK.
>>
QM here. On my way home.

Looking like STRONK OF ERF is winning, so a knight we shall be.

On a side note, it's been brought to my attention that the whole Deb Seascrolls aspect detracts from the story's enjoyability .

The comment explaining exactly what's wrong is in CYOA discussion but I can't link it cuz phone.

Anyway, simple vote, Yea or Nay: Should we retcon the dreams? If Yea, I'll write them off in an amusing way.
>>
>>28582119
If you have more than one important historical event for us to observe, then I'd be okay with keeping Deb as the connector between them.
Just don't have the historical characters as blank slates. Give us all their memories, let us BE them.
>>
>>28582119
NEVER TAKE story advice from Fuck Up Your CYOA General. Tell them to please fuck off and let your players enjoy the quest without their filthy plots to ruin it.

I'll say nay.

How amusing though?

>>28582152
Shut the fuck up, I made that criticism and play this CYOA too.

>>28582119
I say yea or at least as >>28582137 put it. Maybe completely separate Deb and Ghost in a Assassin's Creed kind of style but instead with a magical Animus? Just an idea there.
>>
>>28582202
If you're gonna screw with the story, do it in front of the rest of us. This chicken-shit thing of brow-beating the QM in that stupid general so we're all suddenly the victims of a retcon is evil.

CYOA general should be banned. It's the ONLY general I've actually learned to hate.
>>
>>28582231
That's good for you, anon. Now fuck off, you're interrupting the story.
>>
GUys don't fight. It wasn't brow beating, it was valid criticism.

I want this story to be enjoyable to everyone playing. He posted it in the general so as not to eat up space here.

At least that's what I assume. Let's just vote, please?
>>
>>28582248
Voting no retcons. EVER. And especially not coming from a place of concealment.
>>
>>28582261
What concealment?
>>
All right you guys, I'm back.

The majority of you seem to be saying Nay to retcon, which is fine.
However, I might be taking suggestions from >>28582202 and >>28582137. We'll see where the story takes us.

Also, friendly reminder that constructive criticism is N O T bullying or brow-beating, regardless of what thread you're in. So stop fucking arguing, like holy shit.

I appreciate people being willing to defend me, but I'm writing for others to enjoy and to improve my story-telling skills. If something is happening preventing people from enjoying the story, I want to take steps and change that.

Now kiss and make up.

More story momentarily.
>>
>>28582462
>The majority of you seem to be saying Nay to retcon
Seems more like 50/50 to me but hey. A good lesson to learn by the way is to distinguish the majority from just a single super loud faggot. I've seen it really fuck up a CYOA before, trust me.

>You spend a good few hours just staring at the three objects.

>But you've already got one magical tome, and you're not sure you need another one.
>Assuming the book is magical of course.

>It's more like a hat than a helm.

"What do you think, Golet?"

>"Golet thinks it silly. No protect like Golet protect. Need be bigger."

>The little bugger had a one track mind, but she was right.
>It needed to be bigger.

"Oh, Celestabelle, perfect timing. Do you think you could get me a bigger helm? This one doesn't quite fit."

>"I would gladly. As soon as I inform the King you've made your decision."

>"Not somethin', boyo. Everything! That helmet means you'll be trainin' with me! With the best of the best!"

>"Your, Majesty, forgive me if I seem ungrateful, but Scribe was supposed to be my companion! Why have you had him join the guard?"

>"As I told your brother earlier, Aurus has no more need for scribes. You should be thankful he chose to join the guard.
>"Its the only reasonable way I could have allowed him to stay in this city!"

>"But this was supposed to be our journey together! My brother and I, paving a path through history, a stallion and his scribe!"

>"Riddle me this, Starswirl! Why would a fool need a scribe?!"

>At this Starswirl pauses.

>"A..., a fool?"

>"Starswirl, did... did you not know?"

To get this one outta the way, "please no more arguing" on this entire website probably won't accomplish much. Just be yourself, do what you want, only accept advice when you honestly think it helps. You're running this show, and the rest of us are your squabbling peanut gallery, so be true to yourself.

"the whimsical" suddenly makes a horrible sort of sense. We're going to have to be ready to support Starswirl bigtime because he's gonna be crushed. But nothing says a jester can't be a great mage, as in Schmendrik the magician ala Last Unicorn. We probably can't refer to that of course but the basic concept should translate well enough.

I hope we're ready for whatever mizz Lily deals out. We may be forced to flee or defend if she gets sufficiently out of hand.

The digits, man, the digits!

>But you don't feel it move an inch.

>"What was that, Private Scribe? Are you trying to woo me with gentle caresses?"
>"I want Everything you've got! No holds barred!"
>>
>>28591289
Dammit. We're the only earth pony here and somehow we're the weakest one?

Come on, fulfill that stereotype, Scribe.

>"I almost felt that one, Private! Again!"

>This is getting ridiculous.
>But you swing again.

>"There we go, Private, now you;re gettin' it! Again! And don't stop til' I give the okay!"

>You'd like to stop.
>But you can't disobey your commanding officer.
>So you swing.
>Her nose is bleeding now.

>"Another!"

>Swing
>A bruise is forming on her face.

>"ANOTHER!"

>Swing.

>Her nose is gushing now.

>"HURT ME MORE!

>You keep swinging, one after the other.
>Captain Lily's face is by no means mangled, but she clearly has no regard for her own safety.
>She's just laughing at this point.

>"AHAHAHAHAH, AAAAAHHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

>She's clearly lost control of herself.
>Should you keep swinging?

Clearly she's a masochist, and I believe we've broken her nose.

"Why what, Captain?"

>"You stopped. Why did you STOP?!"

"You're bleeding profusely, Captain! I think your nose is broken, I was just concerned for your safety!"

>She breathes deep.
>Her nose has created a beard of blood.
>She still has that dead look in her eyes.

>You look to the other soldiers.
>Some are stoic, while others are laughing to themselves.
>Some seem just as uncomfortable as you.

>"I suppose my nose is broken."
>"How many punches did that take, Alcum?"

>"Thirteen, ma'am."

>"Thirteen... good. I like that number."

>Captain Lily's horn begins to glow.
>A opaque object begins to form behind her.
>It looks like a giant... hoof.

>"Let's see how many it takes to break something of yours."

>You're prepared to take the full force of whatever the Captain has in store.

>"WELCOME TO THE GOLDEN SUNS!"

>"Golet protect!"

>Before you can stop her, Golet jumps in front of the massive hoof.
>The rocks composing her body scatter across the courtyard.
>This takes a great deal of strength from the blow, but the hoof still connects.
>It's as if a cannonball has been shot full force, directly at your face.
>But you stand your ground.

>Your hooves are planted firm.
>You're in a massive amount of pain.
>But you have to prove yourself.
>You can hear your brethren cheering you on.
>They're chanting in unison again.

>"STAND PROUD!"
>"STAND PROUD!"
>"STAND PROUD!"

>And that's exactly what you do.
>Another fist comes at you, not as large, but fast enough to make up for it.
>But this is a real hoof.
>The hoof of the Captain.

>She hits you like a ton of bricks.
>And your legs are already weak from the previous blow.
>She literally knocks you off your hooves.
>You fly at least two feet, and land in a soft pile of snow.

>"Good job, Private. You didn't flinch."
>"So... what'd I break?"

Rip Golet. She was a hero.

Get ourselves to our hooves and take stock of what our body is telling us is wrong.
If I had to guess, probably a broken nose to match yours, captain.

>You're covered in bruises though, and your nose is bleeding.

>You're ready to disappoint your captain.
>You try to speak.

"Nopf fahjn ao err, Kaapn."

>Oh.
>Fuck.
>Sweet merciful mother of all that is sweet and pure.
>That attempt to speak brought you some of the worst pain you'd ever felt.
>Your jaw is terribly broken.
And the pain from trying to talk has pushed you over your thresh hold.

>Your vision fades as you fall back to the floor.
>You black out.
>As consciousness fades, you hear your captains voice.

"Shine on, Private. You're gonna be one hell of a Sun."

Seems like a good place to stop tonight.
Where will we awaken?
How long will it take to heal?
Is this really the end of Golet?

The answer to that last one is maybe

See you guys tomorrow!
>>
>>28591827
By logic, we'd revive in the guard's infirmary. But I'd rather prefer we wake in presence of Starswirl, perhaps he got wind of our misfortune and had us brought to another location.

I'd rather not spend a "night of adventure" cooped up in an infirmary unless we're then able to partake in major skulduggery that involves some kind of plot. Healing is painful and not terribly interesting in itself.

I rather hope Golet survives, as much of a wildcard as she is.
>>
>>28591934
I hope Golet lives too. I hope more than anything else we can really be Ghost Scribe now. Memories and all.

Gonna post some expositional dump in a bit that hopefully fixes the Deb/Ghost Scribe issue.

>In the darkness of your mind, a light shines through.
>It's a cold light, more like the glow of a florescent light bulb than say, the sun.
>It rouses you from slumber.
>As you open your eyes, a wave of understanding washes over you.

>You are Deb Seascrolls.
>You're an archaeologist and historian.
>And for who knows how long, you've been in some kind of magically induced coma/ time travel spell.
>You were a pony by the name of Ghost Scribe, for a time.
>And based on what that mysterious old stallion promised you, you should still be.

>You look around, taking in your surroundings.
>You appear to be in a rundown castle of some sort.
>It's rather dark in here, the only light source being some sort of artificial wisp on the ceiling.
>Sitting in a chair, some feet away from you as you lay on the cold, hard, stone floor, is a strange hooded figure.
>It's writing in journal of some sort.
>It lifts its cloaked head, noticing that you've awakened.

>"Ah, good, you're awake."

"Yes, I am. Why exactly is that?"

>Moving itself from the chair, the figure, who is a stallion as you remember, trots towards you.

>"Let's just say I'm correcting a bit of user error."
>Or, caster error, as the case is."

"What's that supposed to mean, exactly?"
>>
>>28595210

>"It means that the last time the last time we sent you back, a certain princess of the night botched the casting."

"And what's that mean?"

>"It means you were sent back quite ill-prepared."
>"The spell is supposed to suppress your memories and provide you with all the memories the host has acquired up to the point in their life you're sent."
>"That way you don't alter anything with your knowledge of future events."
>"Or, in your case, stumble about with no real knowledge of who you are."

"What went wrong?"

>"You were sent back with an awkward mixture of memory suppression and acquisition."
>"Essentially a brain cocktail, not quite your mind and not quite Ghost Scribe's."
>"A disgusting, perverse amalgam, if you ask me."

>"But I digress.
>"Now, I would guess you're wondering where we are, and how and why I brought you here, yes?"

>"Good, good. So you're mind isn't totally fried.
>"I was worried this little mishap would have destroyed your sense of self."
>"As to where we are: this is the castle of the two sisters in the Everfree forest."
>"It's not a very cozy base of operations, but it was too risky to stay in Manehattan"
>"Old Sunbutt's caught wind of our operation, and she's none too pleased."
>"But this is the last place they'd look for us."
>"We should be fine for a while."

>>28595676

"Anything else I should know, or am I all up to date?"

>"Just one thing. I'll be sending you back this time, so it's gonna be done right."
>"That means that there won't be any confusion in your mind once you become Ghost Scribe."
>"You'll become him totally, memories and all. There's no coming back this time, until the jobs done."
>"For real this time."
>"So if you have any questions, I suggest you ask now. It'll be a good while before we can speak again."

"A couple things. First, could you remind me why Celestia's so opposed to this again?"

>"I'm sure you remember that line she tried to feed you right? About history being written by the survivors?"

"...Right. When a war has no victors, the survivors write history. She's trying to keep Equestria ignorant."

>"Precisely. There's much in Equestria's past that's less than savory. Things she genuinely believes her subjects would be better off not knowing."

"But I don't believe that. If it happened, it's worth knowing about."

>"Princess Luna shares that sentiment. I can't speak for that new princess though, Twilight Sprinkle, or whatever her name is."

"Sparkle."

>"Yeah, that. I doubt she even has the vaguest hint that this is happening."

"Who maybe we should tell her?"

>"Who knows how she'd react. And who would she trust? Us, or her beloved teacher?"

"Good point. Hey, before I go back, should I make a report of some kind? Or can you see everything that's happening?"

>"No need for reports, Seascrolls."

>From beneath the stallions hood, you catch the glowing aura of unicorn magic.

>"I've already lived it once. I'd rather not a second time."

Oh. Sorry.

>>
>>28595965
I'm the wildcard anon, I got pulled out of the matrix for a bit. I wonder why he's sending us back if he's lived it? Are we to be his vindication, his validation of his version of events upon our return? Or has he just become sufficiently muddled, that he needs a refresher once we've seen everything? Or is he monitoring us as we progress, seeing with our eyes? Are we generating some sort of copy, "video proof", as it were?

I'd ask him about that. I guess he'll pull us back at the appropriate point, now. It seems we'll have another revelation once we're sent back which should be good too, if miserable from the pain.

I Love you too, QM!

>The first is that you are Ghost Scribe, Earth pony and brother to Starswirl.
>Your father is Stargazer the whimsical and your mother is Evanescence.
>You are you and have always been you.
>To suggest you were ever anypony else would be preposterous.

>The second thing you're absolutely sure of:
>That you are in a great deal of pain.

>"But I can feel in the bruise he left on my cheek and the break he put in my nose, that he's going to pull through."

>"That's all well and good, Captain Lily, but I want to know if he'll be okay, not if he'll pull through."
>"You broke his jaw and fractured just about every other bone in his body. Who in the world is going to fix that?"

>"That would be me."

>You see another figure enter your blurry field of vision.
>You catch a blob of white decorated with flecks of red.

>"Lenna Ton'berri, resident white magus, at your service."

>"Lenna Ton'berri? As in, Ton'berri the Blessed? The mare rumored to be capable of curing death itself?"

>"Well, I wouldn't say I could cure death, but otherwise, yes, that's me."

>"...Wow. So what are you waiting for, heal my brother! He needs to meet you!"

>"That'll have to wait until he wakes. Healing magic is rather tricky, in that, when performed on the unaware, it has the unfortunate effect of sending most into shock.

>You nod weakly once more

>"Then let's begin."

>"... and with a quick snap, and a sensory numbing spell, the jaw is set quickly and painlessly."

>"Move your jaw, up and down."

>Perfectly healed.

"I do want to ask you though, Captain. Did you wail on me the way you did, because I'm an Earth pony?"

It's obvious she's into the rough physical kink. I think we might have inadvertently given her too much to think about, us saying Starswirl and ourselves usually get beaten up together.

It's just a theory but I imagine we just involved our brother as an object of possible attention to her. We already were. She might get ideas. Possibly about both of us at once.

"Great. Also, you've been talking as if our altercation happened some time ago. How long was I unconscious?"

>A twinge of guilt hits her face.

>"It was, er, two days. It's November first, year twenty-one sixty-five. Last I checked, it was nearing nine o'clock in the mornin'."

"Two days, eh... thank you for informing me, Captain. Though, the year was hardly necessary."

>"A-Aye, I thought so too. But Starswirl mentioned your appreciation for detail and I figured, well... well, you know. Unconsciousness can be a mighty confusing thing and you never know when you'll wake up or whereanditsjustmaybeIthoughtyou'dbefrightendandthoughtyoumightneedtheyearsoyoudon'tpanic."
"That's all."

>You'll change the subject for her.

"So, Captain. Exactly how often is the guard called upon to defend Aurus? Is the city attacked often?"

>At this, Gilded Lily frowns.

>"Well, fortunately, but also not, Aurus hasn't been in a major conflict since the days o' my gran', Estrella the Cruel."
>"The guards more symbolic than anything at this point, but you could say the same for the bird brains and mud kin. I mean, Earth ponies."
>"O'course, don't think that means you'll be pussyhoofin' your exercises, Private!"

"Wouldn't dream of it, ma'am!"

I really do wish you the best, Starswirl. You have access to one of if not the best libraries in the world. I'm sure a dedicated pony like yourself will find the time.

Despite being knocked out within minutes, I'm actually optimistic about my training. None of the unicorns glared or sneered at me because I was an earth pony, which is something I've not seen anywhere else since we got here. Heck, even when I was getting nailed in the face, they cheered me on as a comrade. It felt good.

>He's decked out in full armor, save helmet.
>There's a strange bag on his back.
>You turn to Starswirl.

>"Go on, be on your way. We've both got things to attend to."

>You give Starswirl one last embrace and follow the Lieutenant out of the infirmary into the training yard.

>What could he want?
>>
>>28622412
No idea. Let's follow.
>>
>>28622412
>>28622458

>You don't know what the Lieutenant wants or if you should ask.
>As you walk through the training yard, you see your brothers-at-arms.
>Most are engaged in the same contests of strength you saw your first day here.
>Some notice you and nod or wave in your direction.
>You respond in kind.

>You keep following the Lieutenant.
>He walks straight out of the training yard and stops just outside the opening that acts as its entrance.
>There's nopony around, the two of you are alone.

>"First off, Private, I'd like to welcome you to the Golden Suns."

"Thank you, sir!"

>"At ease, Private."
>"During your little exchange with the Captain, I noticed something quite strange."

"And what was that, sir?"

>"Just before the Captains hoof, the magical one that is, connected with your face, it hesitated."
>"Given the state the Captain was in, I know for a fact she was incapable of hesitating."
>"Which means that something stopped her blow before it reached you."

>"Do you have any idea what that could have been?"
>>
Well this is new. The premise reminds me of a green I read once where a human gets summoned and mistaken for a demon when Starswirl finds him like that opening scene from Sherlock Holmes. it was also lewd and completely gay

>>28622593
Magic? That seems to explain most things. No idea where from though.
>>
>>28622593
>>28622740

"No idea, sir. Perhaps one of our fellows took pity on me?"
"I know if I could that I would have done something to help a recruit whose life I felt was in danger."

>The Lieutenant shakes his head.

>"Impossible, Private. We all have far too much respect for the Captain to do something as dishonest as that."

>He drops the bag from his back.
>It hits the ground with a thud, making an indent in the snow.

>"Do you know what's in this bag, Private?"

"No sir, I'm afraid I don't."

>"Of course, why would you? In this bag is a collection of stones."
>"Stones I saw fly from the Captains hoof, just before it hit you."
>"Now why would stones be sitting in the middle of the air, waiting to be knocked away?"
>"Why would they be there, placed so perfectly, as to block the Captains blow?"

>You're getting nervous.
>The Lieutenant is following a line of questioning that's making you terribly uncomfortable.
>Could he know about Golet?
>What should you say?

>>28622740
Welcome to the story! No homo here, possibly mild lewd. Please enjoy our adventure through history.
>>
>>28622866
Would he even believe us if we told him we're an amateur evocationist? I mean, we're an earth pony.

>No homo
Why does that makes me sad.
>>
>>28622901
He might.

Ridiculous truth or slightly less ridiculous lie? You decide!

There may be a bit of homo later.
Depends on where this goes
>>
>>28622901
Fuggit, guess let's tell him.
>>
>>28622921
Guess we'll stick to the truth.
>>
>>28622866
>>28622928
>>28622946

>You figure that if you tell the truth, he might laugh it off as a joke.
>After all, who would believe that you're an amateur evoker?
>And in any case, the outcome might be better than if you were to lie and be caught in it.

"To be honest, sir, I know exactly why they would do that."

>The Lieutenant seems surprised by this.

>"Oh, do you now? Please, do explain."

"Well, my father, Stargazer, was fond of sending Starswirl and I books as gifts. One such book was a guide from the city of Negra Beliza."

>"Negra Beliza? How'd he manage that? Most ponies can't smuggle a pastry out of that city without them considering it an afront to their private practices."

'I can't say I know that, but the book in question was a guide on something called evocation."
"A few nights ago, I summoned a spirit called a Golet. They're meant to be guardian spirits. Her first instinct when I was about to get my face caved in was to put herself between me and the Captain."
"The force of the blow knocked her to pieces. If not for her interference, I'd likely be dead."

>Lieutenant Alcum seems to take in the story.
>"Well, that would explain why the stones have been begging to see their master."
>"Based on your story, I assume you would be the master in question?"
>>
>>28623147
Yes. Please, Can I have her back?
>>
>>28623147
>>28623193

>You try to mask your surprise.
>You had believed Golet to be destroyed!

"Yes, sir. May i please have her back?"

>Lieutenant Alcum ponders for a moment.

>"I see no reason why not."

>Untying the bag, he dumps it upside down.
>A collection of stones of varying sizes drop out of it.
>They begin to shift and form shapes.
>After a minute or so, they regain a shape you'd become quite familiar with.

"Golet!"

>"Master! Golet do good, Master! Golet protect!"

"That's right, Golet, you did protect."

>She runs up to you and hugs your leg.
>The Lieutenant seems amused by this.

>"Strange thing, but cute. Keep it close. Keep it under control. A creature like that could prove useful in combat. But I don't want to see it interfering with your training again."

"Yes, sir. I will, sir."

>As he walks away, you stop him.

"Wait, sir. I have something I need to ask."

>"Hmm?"

"Can anyone else see her?"

>"I can't say for sure, but I don't believe so."
>"Now if that's all, I have to go. I have many important matters I have to attend to."

>You sigh with relief.
>You have Golet back.
>Sure, the Lieutenant can see her, but no one else seems to be able to see her.
>Now you just have to make sure she doesn't pull another stunt like two days ago.
>That should be easy enough.

>But right now you've got training to attend to.
>Or at the very least, watch.

>You step back into the training yard and find the Captain.
>She's sitting on a bench in the corner of the yard, shining her helm.

"Greetings, Captain."

>She responds without looking up.
>Her polishing of the helm seems to intensify.

>"Ah, good, you're here."
>"Now, I know I said you'd be observing our exercises today, but I might to start you on some things early."

>"On my end, we could choose your combat style and work through some simple routines based on that."
>"Or I could send you to the castle first. A good soldier needs good armor."
>"You don't have that yet, but I know a good smith."
>>
>>28623498
Let's start with some basic combat.
>>
>>28623498
>>28623620

"Armor's all well and good, but it won't do me any good if I don't know how to fight."

>You see her smile softly.
>Her polishing intensifies again.

>"Good. A good choice."
>"Now, we in the Golden Suns practice two separate combat styles."
>"The first is traditional, or Equine style as we call it."
>"You run about on all four of your hooves, carry your blade or spear or what have you either in your mouth, or attached to your body."
>"The second, we call Taur style. This one's especially fun."
>"You stand on your hind legs like a Minotaur and wield your weapons in your forelegs."
>"This way you can put the full force of your body into a swing or stab. It takes a great deal of balance and coordination, but it's well worth it."

>She looks up from her helm, polished to a mirror sheen from her intense rubbing.
>The look in her eye is almost devilish.

>"So what do you wanna try, Private?"
>>
>>28623759
I think Equine style would be better for me. Taur seems to leave my belly too open.
>>
>>28623759
>>28623784

"I choose Equine, ma'am. Taur seems a bit unwieldy, and likely to leave my belly open."

>The Captain seems disappointed by your choice.

>"Well, we have armor that can rectify that... but it's your choice."

>Donning her helm, Captain Lily gets up from the bench.

>"Follow me, Private."

>You've been doing a lot of following.
>But you're not complaining.
>You take a moment to speak with Golet.

"Golet?"

>"Master?"

"This mare and I are going to fight with each other. I need you not to protect me."

>"No... protect?"

"That's right. She's trying to help me be strong. We're fighting, but it's nice fighting. So I-"

>"Private Scribe! What's the hold up?"

"Sorry, ma'am! On my way, ma'am!"

>You hurry to the Captains side.

>"No worry, Master. Golet no protect. Hard to resist, but Golet listen."

>You nod at her.

"Where are we headed, Captain?"

>"To the armory. I'd go over every single weapon we have in store, but frankly I don't have the patience."
>"So just name the first weapon that come to mind, and if we have it, it's what you'll be training with."
>>
>>28623907
First thing that came to mind is books.
How about polearms?
>>
>>28623972
Do you mean like spears and halberds?

Or like quarter staffs?

Either is fine
>>
>>28623999
I like quarter staffs, they aren't pointy and we won't accidentally hurt ourselves badly with it.
>>
>>28623907
I would like to work with a war hammer, personally. Though, that seems a bit too much for a first lesson.

Let's go with spears for now. Look into the possibility of learning more weapon styles later.
>>
>>28623907
>>28624042
>>28623972

"Books."

>"Ah, yes, a... what?"

"You said to name the first weapon that came into my head, ma'am. What greater weapon is there than knowledge?"

>"Don't get smart with, bucko."

>She puts on a stern face, but you can see her side quiver with stifled laughter.
>Of course, you hadn't meant it as a joke.
>Better to play it off like one though.

"Well then, what about a quarterstaff?"

>Her smile returns.

>"A fan of blunt force are we? More a basher than a slicer?"
>"I've always been partial to a good skull crushing."

>You can practically hear her blushing.
>Her love for violence is still unsettling to you, but with a grandmare named Estrella the Cruel, you can see where she gets it.

>She stops outside the armory
>She steps inside and comes out with two staffs, roughly as long as she is.

>She motions for you tow follow her.
>You do.
>She returns to the center of the training yard.

>"After this lesson, we'll move on to more dangerous weaponry. After all, a staff isn't useful for much on the battle field."
>"It'll give you a good feel for what it's like to wield a spear though."

>She tosses you a staff
>You catch it and watch as she readies herself..
>You start to worry as you remember the events from two days ago.
>It must show on your face, because the Captain's expression softens.

>"Aye, Private Scribe. I promise this won't be a repeat of that little incident."
>"Of course... if your still a bit frightened, I understand if you might want a different sparring partner."

>>28624310
We'll work our way up.
>>
>>28624432
Nah let's spar with her
>>
>>28624432
I trust you ma'am.
>>
>>28624432
Spar with her, the captain will be more experienced to teach us and this is a good way of showing trust.
>>
>>28624432
>>28624441
>>28624482
>>28624526

>You push the worry down.

>"I trust you ma'am. And I hope you can trust me to learn."

>She smiles at you, a big toothy grin.
>Her eyes are filled with fire, determination if you will.

>"Good! Now, prepare yourself!"

>You take what you feel is a proper battle stance.
>The few Golden Suns not engaged in some conflict laugh at you.

>"What is that, Private? Widen your stance, tighten your grip, and keep your eyes on me."
>"Keep it lax, keep it limber, and keep a bearing on your surroundings."

>You adjust yourself based on her advice.
>She seems satisfied.

>"Good! You take instruction well. So, which one of us should take the first swing, Private?"
>>
>>28624787
Guard. Have her take the first swing.
>>
>>28624787
Ladies first.
>>
>>28624787
>>28624872
>>28624931

"You first, Captain."

>Her grin becomes a smirk.
>You just ready yourself for a strike, and guard.

>"If that's the way you want it."

>You see a faint glow from her helm.
>A gold-orange aura, likely emanating from her horn, has now wrapped itself around her hind legs.
>She's standing on her hind legs.
>Your not sure what she's planning on doing from her distance, but it can't be good.

>Should you prepare to dodge, or hold your guard?
>>
>>28625012
Dodge.
>>
>>28625012
>>28625160

>You don't think you'll be able to block whatever the Captain has in store for you.
>So you ready yourself to dodge.

>The Captain crouches low.
>It's quite bizarre, watching a pony crouch down on their hind legs.
>You've never seen a Minotaur before, but you assume watching one walk around must be equally as strange to behold.

>She flexes her legs.
>With a loud crack and a cloud of dust, Captain Lily leaps high into the air.
>She becomes little more than a dot among the clouds.

>But then the dot gets bigger.
>She's coming back down, at frightening speeds.

>You run and jump, and trip over yourself, unsure of where she'll land.
>With a panicked kick, you manage to jump out of her path.

>She brings her staff down in your former position, with all the force of her gathered momentum.
>It splinters into a million pieces.
>The ground where she lands shares a similar fate, cratering upon her impact.

>You stare at her, bewildered.
>She doesn't have that dead look to her, but she clearly isn't finished.
>Tossing aside her splintered staff, she begins to walk towards you, her hooves raised.
>Her two-legged gait is unsettling.

>How can you possibly hope to match up to a pony of such strength and magnitude?

All right, we'll continue this tonight. I gotta go to work.

How will Ghost Scribe get out of this mess? How can he possibly prove a worthy sparring partner for such a mare?
>>
>>28625410
She can't have infinite energy. She may be stronger and quicker than us, but something like what she just did has gotta be dang tiring. She's not holding anything back, which we might be able to use.

If we can drag out the brawl, playing defensively and getting strikes in when we can, we can start getting aggressive once she gets tired.
>>
What's that?
A bump?
>>
>>28626480
Hark! I do believe it is!
>>
>>28625410
We already know the weakness of the minotaur style, though. We're low and fast, she's high and able to jump. I say we try for leg-sweeps and belly-pokes with the staff, maybe we an trip her over and go for a submission hold.
>>
>>28625410
>>28628092
>>28625773

>As Captain Lily walked towards you, you pick yourself up.
>You grab the staff and defensively prepare for whatever she has in store.
>Her style of fighting seems to be hyper offensive.
>The Taur style allows her to jump great heights.
>She relies on the momentum from her fall to deal a devastating blow.
>Chances are she can do the same on a horizontal plane.
>You have to find a way to knock her off her hooves.

>The Captain crouches again, tilting herself towards you.
>She has a hoof reeled back, ready to swing.

>Should you try to duck her incoming blow?
>Try to block it?
>Or some other thing?
>>
>>28628222
Her balance forward and backward should be fairly weak. Dodge down and in underneath the punch, hit her in the gut as she extends for the blow.
>>
>>28628222
>>28628267

>The Captain launches herself at you.
>With another crack and cloud of dust, she swings.
>You'd anticipated this.
>You duck, and swing your hoof upward.
>It connects with her exposed belly.

>Your blow throws off the Captains momentum.
>She flips midair, but manages to reorient herself.
>She's caught off guard by your quick thinking, and has stopped to catch her breath, which you so rudely knocked out of her.
>You see that look returning to her eyes.

>Should you try to subdue her?
>Knock her out with the staff?
>She's wearing her armor, so anything you do, you'll have to do it now, and you'll have to do it hard.
>>
>>28628378
Staff to the head should be able to knock her out.
>>
>>28628378
Wrestling her will probably end with us on the bottom. We're significantly weaker than she is.

Go offensive with the staff. Armor doesn't protect against quarterstaves and most other blunt force weapons. Aim for the head using the length of the staff. Knock her out. She's stuck with hooves. Space her out. Give ourselves time to react if she strikes.
>>
>>28628402
>>28628416
>>28628378

>A blow from the staff should knock her out before this gets too intense.
>Or at the very least, disorient her and give her a chance to cool down.

>You take the staff and swing the length of it full force.
>It connects with the side of her helm, and she's sent spinning.
>A clang rings throughout the training yard.
>Your fellow Golden Suns have all stopped to see what's going on.
>Upon seeing their Captain on the floor, dazed and confused, most freeze.

>They seem scared.
>Others, simply shake their heads.
>The one called Bigby speaks up.

>"Should've just let her knock you out, kid."

>But why?
>What would that have accomplished?

>You hear the Captain begin to stir.
>She's getting up slowly, but surely.
>The dead look is gone.
>But it's been replaced by something else.
>Not quite the determined fire from earlier.
>You're not quite sure what it is.

>Maybe you hit her a little too hard.
>Should you try to call out to her?
>>
>>28628518
Captain?
Be prepared to block with our staff.
>>
>>28628518
I think a little bit of defense here is a good idea. Will she come out of it if we can dodge long enough? Let's try to find out!
>>
>>28628518
>>28628607

"Captain? Are you okay?"

>She doesn't acknowledge you, just stands there, breathing heavily.

"Captain? Is something wrong?"

>She responds this time.

>"Nothings wrong, Private Scribe. I'm just wishing I'd taken this seriously from the beginning."
>"You've certainly got potential. But we already knew that."
>"Let's see just how far you can go. WEATHERVANE!"

>A stallion shouts from across the yard.

>"Yes, Captain?!"

>"GUNGNIR!"

>The stallions face seems to flush with fear.

>"B-but, Captain-"

>"GUNGNIR! I won't ask a third time!"

>"Y-Yes, Captain!"

>The stallion runs into the armory.
>While he's there, the Captain stands on her hind legs again.
>She shouts at you.

>"Choose!"

"Choose what, ma'am?"

>"A weapon, you fool!"
>"Take a name, shout it out! CHOOSE!"

>You have a general idea of what she's telling you.
>But you don't like the sound of it at all.

Stopping here tonight, can't stay awake. HOMEWORK: Research weapons of legend and shout it out. who knows what lies in the Golden Suns armory...

Tonbokiri, aka the Dragonfly Cutter Spear. One of the three legendary spears.
>>
>>28628714
Does it count as a weapon if the name we shout is also that of a pony?

Shout Gungnir! and see what happens. We either get the mythical spear or get to swing a pony around.

What about a pony that considers themselves a weapon? Some soldiers do. What if we shout out the name of the Armory officer?
What about armors themselves?

Does it have to be real world mythology weapon? Can we shout out "Wabbajack!"?

I'm having some trouble making heads or tails of the pastebin and the earlier parts of this thread. So if I'm reading this right, OP is that anon who wrote 10 pages of backstory for a time travelling historian.

Sheogorath, pls.

>>28629371
No homo. Homo is not for brothers. Their love is purely platonic.

Alright guys, three of the five weapons suggested were spears, so we'll be choosing from among them.

Gae Bulg, the ancient barbed spear wielded by thr warrior Cúchulainn. It's strikes were always invariably fatal, but I could write a non-lethal version.

Tonbogiri, the "Dragonfly Cutter", a spear once wielded by Honda Tadakatsu. Said to be so sharp, when a dragonfly landed on it, it was immediately cut in two.

Aeglos, a recurved spear, nine-feet in length, wielded by Gil-galad, King of the elves. It's name implies cold death.
>>
>>28630220
I'm a Tolkien fan, so Aeglos is my choice. None of these are really a match for Gungnir but we're not trying to kill each other anyway.
>>
>>28628714
>>28630312

>You're not sure what she means by pick a name and shout.
>But as you ponder, you recall an old legend.
>The first king of the unicorns, Gil-Gallop, was said to have had a spear.
>This spear was said to bring cold death to all who opposed the king.
>But what was its name?

"Aeglos..."

>You absentmindedly whisper this word to yourself.
>Had that been the spears name?

>"What was that, Private?"

>You don't know how, but the Captain heard you.

"I, uh... I said Aeglos, Captain."

>"WEATHERVANE!"

>The stallion pokes his head out of the armory, fearful and with a forced smile plastered on his face.

>"Yes, Captain?"

>"AEGLOS!"

>"Yes, Captain!"

>You're still not entirely sure what's going on here.
>Had you upset Captain Lily somehow?
>Wasn't this just supposed to be basic training?

"What happened to wooden sticks and blunt swords?"

>The Captain keeps her eyes fixed on the armory.

>"What's advanced to one is basic to another. In my ten years as Captain, only six other recruits have ever actually managed to land a blow on me during their first training session."
>"You're the first that's been able to knock me to the ground. Surely you would agree that your abilities are a bit beyond basic, no?"

"Well, I don't know about that, but...in any case, do you really think it's appropriate to use such storied weaponry for a sparring match?"

>"Both Aeglos and Gungnir are weapons belonging to the royal bloodline. Only I, my brother, and my niece may ever call them forth from the armory."
>"You have no place to question what is or is not appropriate to do with them."

>"Rules? No, no rules. Go until you can't go. And then keep going.'
>"Such is the way of the battlefield."

>Weathervane emerges from the armory.
>He's carrying two long lengths of cloth on his back.
>Likely the spears, covered to protect them from exposure and other weapon related maladies.
>The Captain wastes no time upon his appearance.

>"TOSS!"

>Weathervane throws the one thicker cloth of the two as hard as he can.
>It flies across the courtyard, and seems to move of it's own accord.
>It makes a beeline for Captain Lily.
>She catches it out of the air, and swiftly removes the cloth.
>Underneath, lies a spear of bright polished bronze, it's tip frighteningly thick.
>She grips it firmly and points it in your direction.

>"Hey, look out!"

>Weathervane shouts at you.
>You look his way just in time to see the second cloth fly your way.
>It comes unraveled mid-flight, revealing a recurved spear of bright silver.
>It lands just inches from your hoof.
>You give a glare at Weathervane

>"Sorry!"

>Ignoring his mishap, you pick up the spear, and take the stance Captain had instructed you in earlier.
>The Captain speaks.

>"Take your pick once more. You or me: who strikes first?"
>>
>>28631160
We can't afford to be passive against Gungnir. It's a spear that always strikes its opponent no matter the skill of the user, then returns to its owners' hand.

We need to take the first strike here.
>>
>>28630675
>I would've waited for more responses but I think it's a bit early for some people
Which is exactly why you should have waited.

>>28631293
Did I do a bad?
>>
>>28631354
Not necessarily, just potentially bad. All it takes is one stupid suggestion to fuck it up for everyone.

Kinda bummed I couldn't vote for which weapon tho.
>>
>>28631424
I understand. And I'm sorry you couldn't vote.

To be honest, either of the other two were remarkably dangerous compared to Aeglos. We'd have likely harmed ourselves, or, worst case scnario, killed our Captain/Princess with Gae Bulg.
>>
>>28631354
Not really. If the decision was more important, then it would have been.

>>28631448
I agree with that too. I didn't really want Gae Bulg because it's simply too deadly.
Aeglos has a similar magic to Gungnir in that it's a blade capable of performing beyond the skill of its handler. Gungnir is the perfect spear; the elvish glaive Snow-point is basically a slightly weaker version of that.

What more are you looking for, Anon?

>>28631813
I was just waiting to see if anyone agreed with >>28631218

If it's cool though, I'll get this show moving.
>>
>>28631160
>>28631218

"I'll go first this time, Captain. Let's see if I'm really worthy of this honor you've bestowed on me."

>In truth, you want to get the first move in, because you know Captain Lily's first move will be the end of you.
>You didn't know much about Gungnir's history, but legends stated it never missed it's mark.
>It was a spear that worked beyond it's users own abilities, and given that the Captains abilities were already frighteningly impressive...
>You didn't really see any way you could win this fight, but you sure as hell had to try.

>What should your first move be?
>>
>>28631995
Get aggressive. It's likely she'll go on the defensive and try to impale us as we strike.

However, our blade on a stick is about a foot and a half longer than hers, so we can strike her without stepping into her defensive range. Bat the spear away and go for a strike.
Plus, that would put us at a range where it would be awkward to throw the spear at us.
Aim for her exposed belly as before or anywhere that won't hit vitals.

The spear never misses, so try and take hits in places that will be less than lethal to us. Heck, we can't even incapacitate her by going for her forelimbs because she has a horn too.
>>
>>28632103
While I agree with you, wouldn't her trying to attack us while we're in the middle of our initial strike count as her underestimating us? That's a risky move, and I'm pretty sure we're past the point where she would think we're incompetent enough for her to get away with that. I think it's more likely for her to parry.

>>28631995
Either way, yes, we should probably keep our distance, while pushing forward and being on the aggressive.
>>
>>28632265
Good point. Expect a parry instead.

>You decide to get aggressive.
>No use beating around the bush when the bush in question could knock you three ways to a comatose village.
>Aeglos is a good foot and a half longer than Gungnir, if your memory serves you right.
>You need to play that fact to your advantage.
>You run at the Captain.
>Rather than jump away or guard, she extends Gungnir in an attempt to impale you.
>But you're no fool.

>You take a test swing to gauge just how much close you need to get.
>Aeglos and Gungnir touch tips, and the Captain responds by spinning Gungnir, in an attempt to parry.
>Your just far enough for it to do absolutely nothing.
>The Captain seems surprised, and Gungnirs weight has thrown her off balance.
>No longer having any room to jump away from you, she takes a defensive stance.

>How do we strike next?
>>
>>28632340
Guard high, strike low. Go half staff and move in as she being defensive. We've established this is a weakness of the Taur stance. Let's keep exploiting it.
>>
>>28632340
Agree:
>>28632468
>>
>>28632340
>>28632468
>>28632588

>You choke up on Aeglos, holding it at half staff.
>You move in on Captain Lily, taking light jabs at her hind legs and flank.
>Her legs are armored, so you aren't doing much damage.
>But the fact that you're even connecting is frustrating the Captain.
>She tries to sweep Aeglos away, but fails missing in her frustrated hurry.
>You take the opportunity and slash at the Captain's still exposed belly.
>Aeglos hits its mark, the leftmost side of Captain Lily's belly.

>She grimaces with pain.
>The cut isn't deep, but it's long, and it's bleeding.
>She's still not backing down though.
>She retakes her offensive stance, moving in on you.
>She's poised for an overhead strike.

>At this point, you think you might have to disarm her to end this.
>>
>>28632782
Quickly fall back and switch to full staff. Doing that, swing at her spear. Lock our spear with hers and use our leverage and grip advantages to rest it away from her. Spin the locked blades to gain momentum, then release. At best, she gets disarmed. If it works, we open her up for another strike. At worst we're reset back to neutral.
>>
>>28632782
Is it going to be a downward sweep, as if to part us down the center like aforementioned dragonfly? Or is it to be a downward jab to pin us more akin to a butterfly? We can raise our spear sideways so the handle takes the blow, if the first. If second, dance to the side, try to knock the handle of hers away from her with our spear as she jams downward with it.

And/or:
>>28632886
>>
>>28632782
>>28632886
>>28632911

>Falling back you switch to full staff.
>Captain Lily swings Gungnir in a downward sweep.
>You swing Aeglos upward, catching it under Gungnirs point, at the tip of the shaft.
>Physically, you and the Captain are roughly equal, thanks in no small part to your Earth pony heritage.
>But Gungnir is far heavier than you had anticipated.
>She's slowly bringing it down on you.

>But you have an idea. Using Gungnir's weight against it, you begin spinning Aeglos.
>Both spears are now locked a rotating motion.
>You and the Captain are at a standstill.
>That is, until you release.

>Unlocking the spears, Gungnirs weight and momentum send it flying from Captain Lily's hooves.
>She watches, bewildered, as it soars off over the yard walls.
>The legends hold true though, and you can see the spear, by some mysterious force of nature, boomeranging it's way back to your position.

>You have to end this before it makes its way around.
>>
>>28632982
Use the weight and leverage that we have to slam the weapon into her helmet.
Get her on the ground. Unconscious preferably.
>>
Alright, I'll be back in a few hours. Decide amongst yourselves the best way to defeat our Captain!
>>
>>28633164
Well I debated with myself whether or not to sweep her legs. I dunno if it's necessary. It would be cooler though.
>>
>>28633297
Leg sweep sounds good.
>>
>>28633297
>>28633452
Wouldn't that not work because of her leg armor?
>>
>>28633635
Armor doesn't have much to do with it. Once again, it comes down to how completely awful her stance is cause it doesn't work for ponies. She has a very high center of gravity which makes her easy to trip.

That said, we could go for a hoof strike to her chest to shift her balance backwards and spin for her legs to sweep her off of her hooves. Hit her at two points of torque to send her onto her back.
>>
>>28632982
It never misses, right? How about we go for a head-tuck roll right alongside her and hide behind her as it returns? That way it's gotta get through her to get to us!

Hopefully there's a non-lethal section of her to jump behind?
>>
>>28632982
We could feint with the spear tip and bring the haft around onto her helmet as she tries to parry it again, like a staff.

Or we can intercept that returning weapon by hooking her leg with the back of the spear head and pulling her forward, if its big enough. Maybe she could be knocked out with her own weapon flying at speed?
>>
>>28634104
>>28634246
>A spear with a tip like Gungnirs flying at incredibly fast speeds
>Slamming into the captains helm full force

This kills the masochistic warrior princess.

QM here. I don't actually no how fatal something like that would be. If you guys want to try this, I'll make a composite of all the suggestions when I get home.
>>
>>28634543
It should return to her hoof in this case, right? She didn't throw it at us, we disarmed her.
>>
>>28634543
I say just the a sweep with our spear to trip her is enough.
>>
>>28634578
Yeah. No need to overdo it.
>>
>>28634568
technically we levered it out of her arm during her strike at us. I'm simply assuming that the weapon is guided-missiling toward us, since it "never misses", but you could be right. Thing is though, we may have an opportunity to force her to take a hit intended for us, right now. And if it's headed for her hand anyhow, diving behind her won't affect that. But if not...

I know the QM has been worried that one of us is going to get killed in these encounters, but she's pretty extreme and not giving us much choice- Is she?
>>
>>28635061
I'd rather not chance either of us being killed if at all possible.
>>
>>28635791
Well sure, but that weapon may well be pre-programmed to split us down the center like a hotdog bun. I'm just proposing that we roll behind her flank or something so she's gotta take the brunt of the hit. That is, IF the thing's even coming for us, rather than returning to her hoof.
>>
Cool, people are up.

I'll be home in like 20 minutes and we'll settle this hot topic of:

"Is it trying to kill us?"
>>
>>28635873
Nice!
>>
>>28635873
"roll behind" anon here. I want to modify that somewhat. We still roll past and behind her relative to the weapon, in case it plans to make a 'split dog' out of us, then follow up with a blunt-end wallop to the back of her helm, as a combo move, provided we don't take a debilitating hit from the weapon. Maybe we can down her before/as her weapon comes in.
>>
>>28632982

>You figure she can't catch the spear if she's flat on her back.
>So you swing Aeglos, catching the Captains hind legs.
>You successfully sweep her off her hooves!
>But as she falls, her hooves seem to some back to the ground of their own accord.
>She removes her attentions from Gungnir, looking at you with a smug grin.

>"Aye, thought you could knock me down, did ya, Private?"
>"Not so simple, that. I'm a dragoon, bucko, and above that, I've been using Taur style for years.
>"I know all it's strengths and weaknesses. My magic makes my legs like a magnet, They'll always come back to solid ground!"

>Disheartening, but her rambling has given you an idea.
>You sweep again.
>She sees it coming and jumps over Aeglos.
>You take your chance and tuck your body, rolling behind her.
>You knock the butt of Aeglos into her back, causing her to stumble forward.
>She doesn't fall though.

>"You're just full of fruity little tricks, aren't ya bucko?
>"You think you can best me with all th-"

>THWA-CLANG

>Gungnir returns to its owner, it's butt smacking her straight in the side of her head.
>You figured Gungnir must work something like a boomerang.
>Sure it returns to to it's owner, but it's entirely up to them to catch it.
>And you did a sufficient job of distracting her long enough to make sure she couldn't do that.

>Gungnir bounces off the Captains helmet.
>Instinctively, she reaches for and catches it.
>But she's been disoriented pretty heavily.
>She's leaning on Gungnir for support.

>Now's your chance!
>But how do you finish this?
>>
>>28636189
Buck the spear she's leaning on from her grip, leap onto her back and try for a sleeper hold. If we luck, our momentum and her lack of support will bring her down forward, us atop.
>>
>>28636189
Not to count our chickens, but honestly she should be embarrassed about how she fought. We're untrained, she's the captain. We should have very convincingly lost this.
>>
>>28636236
One thing's for damn sure, we're winning alot of respect from the other troops. The downside is I think we're becoming Mizz Lily's favorite punching bag.
>>
>>28636252
I'm more concerned that I think she has the hots for us.
>>
>>28636189
>>28636217

>You buck your hooves and knock Gungnir from under the Captain.
>Dropping Aeglos, you leap onto her back, placing your forelegs across her neck and around her head.
>Her magic holds strong though.
>She leans back, but she's not going down.
>You can feel her struggle to breath, as your legs grow tighter around her throat.

"DO YOU YIELD, CAPTAIN."

>The Captain looks back at you best she can.
>The dead look is back, but it's different somehow.
>You can see something mixed into the emptiness.
>You don't have the time to ponder this though.

>"Yield?"
>"YIELD!?"
>"I'D DIE A THOUSAND DEATHS BEFORE I YIELD! I SOONER KILL YOU AND MYSELF THAN YIELD!"
>"AND THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I"LL DO!"

>With a crack and a cloud of dust, you suddenly find yourself on the Captains back, miles in the air.
>You can't discern any details of the ground below you.
>All you see are clouds, and the Captains face.
>A face filled with invariable rage.
>The magic has disappeared from her horn and legs.
>She's serious.
>She really intends to kill you both.

>You consider calling Golet, but you doubt she'll be able to do anything from your height.
>What can you do?

>>28636236
There's good reason for her sloppy fighting
>>
>>28636312
Um, we got maybe 3 options.

Try to "talk her down", maybe she'll activate her magic and save us if we let go.

Aim for a big lake and try to body-surf her using air resistance so we land in deep water.

Come straight down and hope that passing pegasi or the practicing troops save us.

Golet I think is remarkably unprepared for a save of this type, even if she softened a big dirt-patch for us it'd still be hitting gravel at high speed.

I vote we try to talk some sens into lily. "Captain? We're just sparring, remember? Your troops and kingdom need you alive!" And maybe "Though I bet even if we survive a landing like this, it'll hurt reallllly bad!"
>>
>>28636298
...I'm afraid that might be part and parcel of becoming her favorite punching bag. We might suffer extraordinarily in fiendishly freaky ways.
>>
>>28636312
I'm not sure talking will solve this anymore.
Could we find some way to draw blood? Maybe a minor wound will snap her out of it. But seeing as we are in the sky, perhaps its time to run. Kick her away and speed through the clouds below? With how high I think we are, terminal velocity is going to be reached sooner or later.

But activate Golet anyway. Its not like it can hurt, right?

>>28636312
>>28636341
>>28636488

>The sky is empty, save for clouds.
>Your not in enough control to steer for any kind of body of water.
>You don't even know if there are any lakes near Aurus.
>Your only real option here is to try and talk Captain Lily out of this.

"Captain! We're just sparring remember? This was just supposed to be training, remember?"

>She growls at you.
>Like a dog.
>Clearly she doesn't remember.

"What about the King? What about you're niece? What about the Golden Suns and the rest of your kingdom? They need you! I need you!"

>Her expression softens slightly.
>You're getting through to her!
>...Are those tears?
>You don't have time to worry about that, you have to follow this lead.

"That's right, Captain! How can your kingdom be safe, how can your troops be lead, how can I get stronger, if the two of us are dead?"

>"...stronger..."

"Yeah, stronger! You know what makes ponies stronger?"

>"...Pain."

"What?"

>"Pain. Survive the pain, become strong."

>Her expression has softened completely.
>Her eyes are streaming, her tears becoming like rain drops in the sky.

>"Survive the hurt, become better. Bring others pain, and make them strong. Only the weak yield."
>"Never yield, survive the pain. Death is never an option..."

>Her ramblings are nonsensical.
>But you heard what you wanted.

"That's right! Death is never an option!"

>"We will survive the hurt, together. You and I, in pain, survive, grow strong."

"Yeah, we'll survive!"

>You see her horn begin to glow.
>But you aren't slowing down.
>In fact you're falling faster.
>Panic sets in. Instinctively, you call out:

"GOLET! PROTECT!"

>Just before you hit the ground, you hear the Captain say one thing.

>"You have such beautiful emotions..."

>Then a crash.
>Then numbness.
>Then darkness.

That's all for tonight. Tune in tomorrow morning more ADVENTURES IN HISTORY

What do you guys think happened? Did Golet soften our landing? Has every bone in our body been broken?

Well, we seem to have blacked out, but I'm not sure what did so. A high-speed splatter, as of the infamous bug hitting the windshield, where the last thing to pass through our mind was our ass, is entirely possible.

That would be an ignoble end, so I'm betting we got caught or magic'd to at least a survivable velocity upon impact.

And, wow:

If anything, this also reflects badly on whoever rules the castle. I mean, imagine the scandal if they employed a bloodthirsty egomaniac as a captain and the brother of their new court wizard was murdered by them! Not a very good image, clearly.

One could say that, but just look at modern life. Does outward appearance seem to have ANY impact upon the way countries are run these days? Or, if one is honest, has it ever? Those who rule, rule, and tend toward the Baron Harkonan end of things.

>>28636544
>What do you guys think happened?
I'm hoping we survived.

If you ask me I think that maybe Cap ain't strong as one would think so she's almost obsessed with becoming stronger through pain. On the other hand, Ghost has had to fight since he was a foal. I think it's probably made him tough.
>>
>>28636544
Golet's a rock. There's no way she softened our landing with her body alone. Unless she caught us somehow or counteracted out fall, we most likely got as much damage as you'd expect from a fall like that.

I think it would be alright if we died here. It would be interesting to see how it effects the plot- if we're allowed to continue as someone else. I think I'm the only one ago has that opinion, though.
>>
>>28637577
I think it would be pretty disappointing if we died here.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!"

>It takes you a moment to realize that the screams are coming from you.
>But you don't care.
>You'll scream yourself hoarse until the pain goes away.
>You hear somepony trying to speak, trying to talk to you.
>But you don't care to hear what they hae to say.
>If they aren't making your pain go away, you won't waste your time listening.
>Tears steam down your face and your voice does just what you swore you'd scream until it did.
>The concept of time is lost to you in this moment, and you don't know how long you've been screaming.
>But it was long enough for your throat to give out.

>"Are you quite done? Good."

>You can't crane your neck to see who it is.
>But you recognize the voice as Lenna Ton'berri, the mare who had healed you before.
>That must mean you're in the infirmary.

>"A bunch of idiots, that's what you Golden Suns are. Can't listen to simple instruction."

>She walks around to your side, within your line of sight.
>She's clearly unhappy.
>But you don't care; you just want her to HEAL YOU.

>"You just had to keep calm for a day or two, but in typical fashion, you jumped straight into some of the most advanced basic training, I've ever witnessed."

>She turns her head elsewhere.

>"And you Captain Lily. Gungnir? Aeglos? Why not bring out the Gae Bulg while you're at it, get yourselves killed? Weapons of war are not appropriate for sparring!"

>She gets no response.
>She returns her attention to you.

>"Are you ready?"

"Y-yes."

>"Good. I'd ask you to hold still, but you don't really have much say in that matter."

>You feel a burning sensation, just as Ton'berri described. It's nothing in comparison to the pain you've been in though.
>It's almost soothing.
>The burning is quickly followed by a numb sensation.
>You can't feel your legs anymore, but you don't have anywhere urgent to go any way.
>You're perfectly fine with bed rest.

>The numbing sensation is not repeated, nut the burning continues up the rest of your body, stopping at your neck.
>Not once did you feel any itching.
>The whole process takes roughly ten minutes.

>"You're a lucky one, young soldier. Not a single punctured or torn organ. Mostly clean breaks too. With a few days rest you'll be able to get right back up and break everything again."
>"I'm joking, of course. Do anything like this again, and I'll leave you both to a life of disability, royal status be damned."

>With that, Ton'berri leaves.
>You can move your neck now.

>"The next day, while out for her usual stroll, she was accosted by the same fillies and colts."
>"They called her the same names, shouted the same obscenities."
>"But she would not have it this time. So she pulled back her hoof and punched the closest pony, a merchant's son."
>"The colt was shocked, but angered. He and his friends retaliated in kind."
>"The princess was left bloody and bruised by the end of it, forced to crawl home in humiliation."
>"No guards had witnessed the event, and she intended to tell nopony."
>"But her grandmare knew better."
>"She asked what had happened, and the princess relayed everything."
>" "Well then you'll just have to try harder next time. Let pain run it's course until they learn." "
>" "But grandmare," the princess responded. "You said pain let's you know what must be done and what must be left alone. That hurt really bad! I don't want to do it again."
>" "The tricky part my child, is figuring out what the pain is trying to tell you. Those foals out there are are strong of body but weak of spirit. One good beating and they'll never bother you again."
>" "You, my child, are strong of spirit but weak of body. Make your strength match your spirit. Become stronger through this pain. There will be nothing you can't do."
>>
>>28638925

>"So day after day, the princess tried her best, standing up to her aggressors as best she could."
>"But her best was never good enough."
>"Day in and day out, she was beaten back."
>"Her only comforts were her grandmare's healing magics and the tidings of their court jester."
>"She came to enjoy the nights she spent, cradled in her grandmares lap, the throbbing of the days wounds slowly disappearing."
>"She almost came to accept that she would never truly be respected."
>"But her grandmare made something clear to her"
>" "Everyday, you come home with fewer marks, fewer bruises. You're getting stronger my child. But even the strongest warrior will fall when faced with ten weaker warriors." "
>"This was all she said, but the princess knew what she meant."
>"So the next day, she returned to the usual spot, where the merchants son and his friends congregated."
>"They spouted their bullshit. But this time she fired back."
>"She called them cowards, for having to fight her all at once. She taunted them, saying they could never take her in a fair fight."
>"Enraged, they accepted her challenge. And one by one, they all fell to the floor, as bloody and bruised as she had been that first day."
>"They never insulted her again, and most of them avoided her entirely."
>"The princess was finally happy. She had found her strength, her means of gaining respect."
>"But there was still much for her to learn and gain. Much pain, still in her future."

>"Now I hope you don't mind if I rest awhile, Ghost Scribe. There's much more to this story, but telling it always tires me."
>"I'll tell you more when next I wake."

"Good night, Captain."

>The Captains eyes shut, and she is soon snoring, deep into her sleep.
>You don't know why she's telling you all this all of a sudden, but you're glad she is.

>Now that she's asleep though, there's not much to do.
>You're bag's on the floor beside the bed, so reading perhaps?
>And where in the world is Golet?

>So you decide to find comfort in the thing you love most: writing.
>It's your special talent after all, your life's purpose.
>Your name is Ghost Scribe for crying out loud!
>So you reach down and pull your journal from your bag.
>You grab an inkwell and quill.
>Quill meets ink meets paper.
>For a brief moment, everything is right.
>The troubles of the past few days melt away as you translate them to text.
>You haven't felt this good in a while.

>"Well would you like me to move her?"

"She's fine. I don't mind."

>Miss Ton'berri sighs.

>"Well, then I won't bother. I'll just leave your breakfasts on this tray here."

>She points at the tray, resting on the side table dresser next to your bed.
>Walking out the door, you hear her muttering something about stupidity shining bright.

>"...Is she gone?"

>The Captain is awake.
>She must have been awake the whole time.

"Yeah, she's gone, Captain."

>"Good. Grab that tray and let's eat. I'm famished."

>You grab the tray.
>There are two plates on, one filled with assorted berries, the other with pancakes.
>There's a note attached to the pancake plate.

>I wasn't sure what you liked so I made a universal favorite. Enjoy. Signed, Lenna Ton'berri.

"O-oh."

>You're not sure what kind of answer you were expecting.
>But that sounds reasonable enough.

>You dig into your pancakes and watch as the Captain eats around her strawberries.
>Once all her other berries are gone, she makes i a point to impale every single strawberry on the plate.
>She then tosses the fork, strawberries and all, out the door.
>It's an act childish in its defiance, but she seems satisfied.

Excellent! I got called away by RL but I loved catching up. Good moves by the other players BTW. Looking forward to the rest of the story, and I'm glad, scary as she is, that we've made the captain happy.
>>
So uh, not that I don't appreciate the insight into the captain, but is Scribe not going to take any effort to tell the truth and point out that all this dangerous combat stuffs was without him asking? The Captain might have this hardcore 'why doesn't kill you makes you stronger' attitude but when this is so much of what she says it makes her seem no more than masochistic and sociopathic. And a little edgy too. Combine that with the relatively disproportionate consequences of a scolding from the nurse and you get someone who reminds me a lot of GlimGlim
>>
>>28641370
>is Scribe not going to take any effort to tell the truth and point out that all this dangerous combat stuffs was without him asking?
Why would he? What could we possibly have to gain from that?
>>
>>28641370
Before we psychoanalyze the captain, let's hear her entire story. Once we've got that insight into her psyche, maybe we can explain to her what makes Starswirl and ourselves tick.

After that, once there's a two-way street going, maybe we can find a way to satisfy her, uh, needs without killing us both and talk it out with her.
>>
>>28641370
POSSIBLE PLOT SPOILERS
If she seems masochistic and sociopathic, it's because she is. Her grandmare basically drilled into her that physical intimidation was the only way to gain respect. She associates pain with getting stronger, hence why she fetishizes it. But that'll elaborated on in her story later. As for why we're not calling her out, that's up to you guys. No one else will because they're either too scared or don't care.

If you don't want to read the spoiler then basically what >>28641853 said
>>
>>28641992
That much was all pretty obvious, and you've said it all in-story, dunno why you called that a spoiler.
>>
>>28642000

If we do somehow end up with her as a lover and it got rumored around, imagine the terror we'd evoke in the entire town. Our status issues would be taken care of, that's for sure. Unless the king saw fit to end us. The healer would probably need a raise, though.

>>28640484

>"Now if I recall correctly, we had left off on our princess finding her strength."
>"Now, after conquering her aggressors, she had the confidence to take on anything and everything that came her way."
>"There were always others ready to try and knock her down, but always she brought them to their knees."
>"Throughout her home, she was feared, and she was respected."
>"Her personal reign of terror extended into her teenage years, when her father decided that her attitude was unfit for a princess."
>"If you are going to act as a colt, you will train as a colt. Such was his reasoning."
>"For the princess, all this meant was that she had a chance to grow stronger."
>"And so on her sixteenth birthday, the princess was a princess no more. She was now a soldier in her father's army."
>"At first, she intended to seize control through her typical means, and show her father just what a fool he was."
>"But she had failed to account for one thing: that there was somepony stronger than her. Somepony who had experienced far more pain than her."
>>
>>28642935
Yes, and reading with interest.
>>
>>28643458
>"On her first day in her father's army, the princess was headstrong, determined to establish herself as a dominant force among her peers."
>"Those that already knew her reputation were wary, and she was happy to see the fear in their eyes as she passed them by."
>"But one stallion refused to bow to her. His name was Orich Alcum. Her commanding officer, a man who had fought many long and arduous battles, who had seen the death of friend and foe alike."
>"He had known pains she could never understand, but at the time, she cared little for the pain of others."
>"All she cared for, was to see him bow before her."
>"Day in, day out, they butted heads. She would disobey orders, pick fights with her fellow soldiers, and every chance she got, she would challenge Captain Alcum personally."
>"He was always eager to accept her challenges, if only to knock her down a peg. But she was never knocked down, no matter how many losses she experienced."
>"Her grandmare's words would always come back to her. Her spirit was strong and her body was strong. But she could be stronger. She would surpass him, if it killed her."
>>
>>28643572

>"One time, it very nearly did kill her"
>"The princess, out on a mission with her squadron, headed by Captain Alcum, saw a chance to prove her superiority."
>"They had been tasked with hunting down and eliminating a dragon, who had wandered too far from his den and was causing trouble in various Earth pony farming villages."
>"Surely if she could destroy this dragon herself, she could show Captain Alcum just how much greater she was than him."
>"Can you imagine? Kill a dragon by herself... the princess would soon realize her folly."
>>
>>28643633
Ack. Yeah that sounds ill advised.
>>
>>28643633

>"While riding out in the fields, they came across the dragon, sleeping, clearly full from a recent meal."
>"All of her comrades were wary of approaching the beast. But the princess knew no such fear."
>"With little regard for her comrades safety or her own, she charged the great beast, as large as fifteen ponies in length."
>"She plunged her spear into it's neck. It dug deep, but remained stuck in the tensile neck muscles of the dragon."
>"It woke in a fury, breathing fire and wiping out half the princesses squadron in one fell swoop."
>"Her remaining comrades were split down the middle, some standing their ground, others cowering in fear."
>"Whatever their reactions, the princess simply desired that they not interfere."
>"She believed, from her position, high on the dragons neck, that she could truly fell the beast."
>"But she was terribly wrong."
>"The beast grabbed her swiftly from it's neck and gripped her in its claws."
>"It squeezed, firm and tight, crushing every single bone in her body."
>"Pain overtook her, a new pain, unpleasant and unfamiliar. A pain that made her want to give in."
>"Her spirit was made weak. Her body was no longer strong. She had no more desire to live,so intense was the pain."
>"And she was almost granted her wish, when the dragon swallowed her whole."
>>
>>28643746

>"Within the dragons throat, the decent was slow and filled with suspense."
>"It's saliva was hot and sticky."
>"The princess resigned herself to death. But death was not ready for her."
>"As she slid down the dragons throat, she was stopped by an obstruction. It did not come from within the dragon. It had come from outside, piercing its way through the beasts throat."
>"Blood was now mixed in with saliva, burning and metallic smelling. She was caught, slumped over the obstruction."
>"She could hear the beast scream, or at least attempt to. It was in pain now. But was this dragon a beast of weak spirit? Or strong?
>"This was the only question in her mind as she tried desperately to forget her suffering."
>>
>>28643746

>"The princess was held firmly in place by the dragons contracting throat, as it engaged in combat with her comrades."
>"She lost all track of time. Everything lost meaning."
>"Until eventually, she felt the dragons movements cease. It's throat loosened up, and she was regurgitated out."
>"Covered in the creature bile, she was still prepared to release her soul to the aether."
>"But Captain Alcum would not allow her."
>" "Never yield!" he shouted at her. "Never give in! Death is never an option!" "
>"These words truly baffled the princess. Did not Captain Alcum despise her?"
>"She wondered this the whole way back to her home, Captain Alcum shouting these words at her the whole way back."
>"Once they arrived, she was brought to a healer, and placed in intensive care."
>"Everyday until she was better, the surviving members of her squadron came to visit her."
>"She wished they wouldn't."
>>
>>28643903

>"Their presence served to remind her of her bittersweet victory."
>"She had been responsible for the dragons death, but also for the death of her fellow soldiers."
>"They had died, because of her selfish desires. For the first time the princess knew guilt, and it disturbed her."
>"She knew she would not be punished, and this only exacerbated her guilt."
>"This brought about a pain new and strange. Emotional pain. Something that couldn't be healed by magic. It never truly healed."
>>
>>28643973

>"Captain Alcum acknowledged that without the princesses rash decision and near death experience, they'd have likely been killed by the dragon."
>"She had killed the dragon by herself, yes, but not through skill. And luck could only get her so far. So she agreed to follow the Captain, until he felt she no longer needed to follow."
>"He taught her what it meant to fight for others, and not just herself."
>"What it meant to grow strong to protect and not to harm."
>"Concepts such as honor, and camaraderie and brotherhood."
>"He taught and she learned and for a while, all was good."
>>
>>28643973
She killed it but got half her squad killed by Leroy Jenkins'ing it. OK so what we need to do to help her is, to get her to realize that it was a learning opportunity as much as a mistake.

That it wasn't her failure to endure pain that caused the issue, but that she was green, inexperienced. Her soldiers knew the risk, they signed up for it, not that it makes it right, but it could well have been ALL of them if she hadn't done what she did.

I think we need to stress these things to her, and get her to take away from this experience that the most important lesson is to take time and analyze the situation before acting, to consult with others before barging in.

And most of all, as I said, it was overall a successful mission, if bittersweet.

We should probably lay some of this on her now, then tell her about Starswirl and ourselves. Talk to her more about her situation after.

>"But Captain Alcum was an old stallion."
>"An old, broken stallion, who had long overstayed his welcome on the battle field."
>"His body was brittle, though he wouldn't show it, and carrying the princess back from their previous excursion had taken it's tole."
>"He died in his sleep a week before her seventeenth birthday."
>"And on her birthday, her only present was more unfortunate news: her grandmare and father had both been found dead in their chambers, poisoned by some unknown assailant.
>"Her brother was king now, and his first order of business was to ensure she stayed out of his hair."
>"So, inexperienced as she was, she was made captain of Alcums former regiment. She was hated at first, felt to be undeserving of the position. She couldn't say she disagreed."
>"But she wouldn't allow any dissent among her ranks."
>>
>>28644082
>"With a mixture of teachings from her grandmare and Captain Alcum, the princess was an absolute terror as a commanding officer."
>"She often encountered the same issue she had as a filly: that nopony took her seriously. Nopony showed her any respect. And every time they called her legitimacy into question, she could only remember the screams of her comrades as they burned alive."
>"But she would not let them know that. All they knew was that any doubt, any disrespect, was met with swift punishment."
>"Loyalty and confidence were their own reward. In the end, respectful or not, the pain brought to each of her soldiers was enough to bring her their loyalty. Some gave it out of genuine admiration, others out of fear."
>"The end result was the same though, and the princess was pleased."
>"Ten years passed in this fashion. Her brother took a wife, and had a daughter. The jester from so long ago had since returned to his own family."
>"And while the princess was surrounded by many, and wrapped in the brotherhood and unity she had created among her soldiers, she could not help but feel alone."
>>
>>28644139

>"She continued to train with her soldiers, day in, day out, the routines a bore."
>"The hole in her heart once filled with desire for strength, sat empty."
>"Until one day, she was provided something. A soldier to train, none other than the son of the jester that had once brought her so much joy."
>"She was fully prepared to break him, as she had broken so many others."
>"But unlike so many others, he had no malice to offer, no attitude, no disrespect."
>"She beat him within an inch of his life, and he worried for her safety."
>"She broke his jaw and pounded him into the dirt. And he did not hold it against her."
>"In a fit of rage, she did something stupid that almost killed them both. And still he forgave her."
>"And now...

Kinda basically this except not the stuff after that. If anything I want her to make the first move romantically. After we tell her that I want to see her reaction before going into our story. I guess an earth pony living as a unicorn is something of a joke, isn't it?

Leave your responses for how Scribe starts the story while I write it up
>>
>>28649726
Well, brought closer by pain, yes. We've faced many trials, but it's unfair to say that pain alone has driven us together.
Starswirl and I face everything together. From the beginning, our stories have been intertwined. Whether it's the world against us, or just one of us in need of a friend in the fading hours of the evening, I've always been there for him, and he's always been there for me.

Allow me to explain.
>>
>>28649726
Er...not like that.

We've been through hard times together before, but its not true to say that's the only reason we're close. We share common interests, we see eye to eye on many things, part of the reason we are so close is because we never had really met anypony else like us.

Also I'll have to disagree about our place in the Guard. This is actually one of the better places, save being in some kind of higher up occupation. The Guard serves both the law and the citizens. Learning the law is straightforward enough, but how can they do their job if they forget what it means to be a regularly pony? With feelings and emotions and social bonds and stuff like that. Fear (and pain, for that matter) shouldn't make you compromise who you are.

FUCK IT, I DON'T HAVE THE PATIENCE.

"Well, brought closer by pain, yes. We've faced many trials, but it's unfair to say that pain alone has driven us together."
"We've been through hard times together before, but its not true to say that's the only reason we're close."
"We share common interests, we see eye to eye on many things, part of the reason we are so close is because we never really met anypony else like us."
"Allow me to explain."

>You recount the tales of your youth to the Captain.
>How Starswirl had tormented you with his magical abilities.
>How he had mocked your purpose in life, claiming superiority as the unicorn that would become court wizard.
>How he would claim mental superiority whenever your father sent gifts from Aurus.

"Father would always send me exotic quills and inks of varying color.'
"Starswirl would always recieve books. Magical theory, historical texts and the like."
"His special talent was learning and knowledge retention, you see, and he liked to remind me how ignorant I was."

>You told her about your night terrors.
>How you'd had to move in to a shed converted to a bedroom.
>How the other fillies and foals had mocked you and how Starswirl had joined them.

>"This doesn't sound like you two were close at all."

"There was a difference between the insults he spoke at home, and the indults he spoke with the crowd."
"The hate they flung at me seemed to make him uncomfortable. I could see it in his eyes."
"It all came to a head the day of the fight."

>"The fight?

AUGGGHH!! Sorry man that sucks! For all of us!

As for the brothers, hm, "Starswirl and I originally came from DeTrot. Not being zebras, we got jumped and our asses kicked almost daily, or given swirlies (especially Starswirl), any sort of painful crap you can imagine. Imagine our relief when we moved to our dad's old town. Of course from there, we came here, and so far it's been a bit like old-home week for me. I'm just glad Starswirl's doing OK."

>night terrors
Has that been mentioned before? Do we still suffer from them?
>>
>>28650541
>"Those dreams have kept you awake at night since we were wee colts, Scribe."
So they have, my mistake.
>>
>>28650462

"One morning, I heard a commotion from outside my room. I was too scared to investigate at the time."
"Once the noise died down, I went inside for breakfast, to find Starswirl, beaten and bruised."
"His lip was fat, and his right eye was swollen shut. He wouldn't tell me how he got that way, but I had my guesses."

"A similar commotion occurred the next day. This time, I worked up the courage to see what it was."
"What I saw shocked me. Starswirl was standing up to the very same bullies he had insulted me along side."
"Only now they were insulting him. Shouting obscenities far more hurtful than anything they could have said to me. And I was enraged."

"How dare they hurt MY brother?"

"How dare they insult MY family?"

"I don't remember who I swung at first, but I know that the next few minutes was a flurry of hooves."
"The fight had to be broken up by the local school marm."
"She left my brother and I off with a warning and then left us in the dirt."
"We didn't need to speak, our actions had spoken volumes.
"I could feel the apology for his past actions in every labored breath."
"And I'm sure he felt my forgiveness."

"My night terrors mostly stopped. I stayed in my room though. It had become too cozy and comfortable to leave"
"Starswirl even began to visit me there. He would bring his books, and read from them to me.
"And while I couldn't really understand most of the complex magical theories or seemingly inconsequential discoveries he relayed, I appreciated his desire to share."

"I tried to share with him as well, though not everypony can appreciate the finer points of quill collecting. But still, he tried to enjoy my interests."
"Soon we began to share everything with one another, exchanging opinions, discussing worldviews... we became inseparable."
"So much so that when it came time for him to leave for Aurus, I offered to accompany him as his personal scribe, documenting his rise to greatness"
"And...well, now I'm here, I suppose."
>>
>>28650618
>"Quite touching... I can see why you'd follow him here."
>"And hearing all that, I suppose it's quite convenient that you ended up in the guard."
>>
>>28650632
Even if I could leave him, I've nowhere else to go.
>>
>>28650632
Well, we were always close. This just brought us closer.

...and no, I won't tell you what happened during puberty. Swirly's memory is enough.
>>
>>28650618
I'd quite forgotten that we'd had a previous peek into their deep past.

"I know, given the opportunity, that Starswirl will become an outstanding wizard. He's already proven skillful at a number of the required talents for it. I only hope that he can be appreciated for that as well as his potential value as a jester. Meanwhile I'll try my best to be useful in the guard, where I can continue to keep an eye on his safety."

>You smile and shrug.

"Well, we were always close. This just brought us closer."
"And even if I could leave him, I've nowhere else to go."

>"That may be true, but I said that for a different reason."
>"I recall you encouraging your brother earlier by saying he had access to the greatest library in the kingdom."
>"That was only half true."

"What do you mean?"

>"Aurus does contain the kingdoms greatest library, that much is true. Filled with centuries of magical and historical knowledge."
>"But Starswirl will never see any of it. He has no way to access this library."
>>
>>28650676
>>28650675

"What? But why? I know given the opportunity, Starswirl could prove to be an outstanding wizard! You told me yourself that he was free to pursue his studies in his free time!"

>"Aye, I did say that. But it's just not possible for him to enter the royal library."
>"Only a select few have access to the library: the royal bloodline themselves, certified maguses, and guards."
>"I take it you understand where I'm going with this, Private?"
>>
>>28650759
Guards, eh? Hmm!

"Ah. Then, as a member of the Guard, perchance I could support him in his studies by providing borrowed materials for him to peruse?"
>>
>>28650887
ps: or royal bloodlines. That raises additional interesting possibilities, were we to involve Starswirl with our deadly little flower as Prince Consort.

"Ah. Then, as a member of the Guard, perchance I could support him in his studies by providing borrowed materials for him to peruse?"

>The Captain smiles at you.

>"As smart as you are kind."

"Excellent! When can I go?"

>"As soon as your basic training's finished and you've been placed in the rotation."
>"I might be able to ensure that you're first assignment places you within the royal library."
>"From there, it's all up to you."

>You don't know how best to thank the Captain.
>So you just wrap her in another hug.
>She quivers at your touch.
>Without letting go, you speak.

"Just two days, right Captain."

>"Two days. Then we can return to your proper training. Free of my outbursts, I promise."
>"But for now, let's just enjoy the time we have to rest."

>Your legs still wrapped around her, the Captain throws herself down on the bed.
>You can't move your legs now, as they're pinned under her.
>She's pretending to be asleep.
>You don't mind though.
>So you pretend to be asleep to.
>As you close your eyes, you see smile creep across the Captains face.
>She seems content.
>And you don't know why, but that makes you happy.

All right folks, that's all she wrote for this part. I'm gonna take the next few days to proofread and organize the pastebin, and write up a character sheet.

I'll be back Sunday afternoon, where we'll see whether or not our heros happiness will last, and whether or not our warrior princess can keep a cap on her crazy. See you then!

We should take that mare out with Starswirl to the bar or something. Make her some more friends. And if she objects, just point out how much having one (us) made her happier.
>>
>>28651075
Looking forward to it. I'm glad we're able to help Starswirl, too, this situation makes us invaluable to him considering he's got no other access to the library. Though I'm not that happy that it's so restrictive that he's not personally allowed in, maybe he can impress the king sufficiently to earn his way in, eventually. But even if not, we're gonna be able to help.

Reminder that this is the closest Scribe has ever been to a mare that's not also threatening his life.
