We did it for a good half-decade, we wore the shirts, bragged to our parents, we kept the stickers on our bumpers and stopped jerking to women, we mixed up some sizzurp of curiosity... but it's all over now. We're years wiser. We look back and sneer inwardly at what used to be cool. Now... now it's just more low culture. It's still being shat out, but interest is waning quick. Pretty soon this show will be as marginal in appeal as it was always meant to be, garbled through the television while visiting your best friends' parents house. Good riddance, shit sucks.

She didn't lie, her memory was biased by the negative experience. Additionally, her recollection of their behaviour probably wasn't that off since all 3 of them were deliberately exaggerating their personality traits to try and create an experience for the other two to "bring them out of their element". Her negative bias probably changed only a few things like the inflection of their statements and reasons behind their actions.
You'd be surprised what a limited perspective can do.

I actually enjoyed that a lot. I'll give it an 8/10.
Pros came from parts of the setting being outside of poniville, and the visual and vocal gags being neat. All their flanderization were reminiscent of how bad fanfics make Ponka completely stupid or the overuse of DARLING for Rarity. AJ's probably the only one who hadn't been overly flanderized for her love for apples, but it was nice what they did for her in Ponk and Rarity's flashbacks.
Only thing I didn't like was the Cucumber=Bunyip thing being the sole explanation for the capsizing and Twilight being the know-it-all but them getting back on land because they never sailed was probably the best part of the episode. Ending explanation could've been a bit better but it was fine for me. Simplest cast and a simple story led to a good episode.

I believe the misunderstanding occured because each of them were deliberately exaggerating their normal behaviours in order to create the experience (Rarity was acting 'fancier' and more high class than usual, Pinkie was trying to be even more over the top and FUN and AJ was trying to be full adventure tour guide).
So on the boat they basically all experienced flanderized versions of their friends' personalities without the context of the knowledge that they were doing it on purpose to create an 'experience'.
It's like if you had a friend who was always really sporty, then one day you were hanging out and he was constantly pulling you into playing sports with him and going all out to ridiculous degrees, to him he's just trying to make you a part of a super fun day of sporting but it could still very well piss you the fuck off if you didn't know that was why he was being so over the top about it.

I guess, we'll never really know what happened on the boat so it's hard to argue about it. But in Rarity's story Pinkie acts fairly normal, and so does AJ in Pinkie's story. AJ just thinks all her friends are retards, so whatever.
The biggest issue in the story for me is how they're all imagining this massive storm with huge waves when apparently some sea creature just made a couple waves. It would be fair for Rarity to be this overdramatic, but Pinkie and AJ are both exaggerating the storm as well. It's one thing to exaggerate the behaviour of the pony you blame and are angry at, but the storm, and the waves? That's straight up consciously lying.

Nothing really wrong with the episode, it didn't quite win me over though. The different retellings were fun though, so I give it a 7/10 (6.5/10 with a positive note).
I liked that we had a bit of snarky Twilight, they've finally been bringing that back a little this season. Pinkie climbing over the train was fun too, as was AJ's pirate impression. I don't really see a way to improve the episode though, so maybe this script just isn't my thing. They could've cut down on the constant "Applejack, Rarity, and Pinkie Pie" and used various shorthands though, that was a bit jarring.

They had more interesting and relatable prmeises and dialouges. Episodes like Party of One, Return of Hamrony or even Twilight Kingdom were experimenting with pony personalities nad story elements. Now its mostly "lets do the Rashomon" episode, "lets do the Football episode". "lets do the racing car episode" etc of whathever was popular in other cartoons but do it with ponies instead. The most blatant excample is the Christmas Carol episode. Literally retelling of classic existing litarature instead trying to make its own fantasy backstory like they did with Hearth Warming Eve or Winter Wrap Up holiday.

Yeah, there was a storm no doubt, but it wasn't a several meters high waves, dangerous waters type of storm they made it up to be. Because apparently they didn't even actually leave the dock. And that's where it kinda falls apart - they barely even started sailing, a storm came, a wave out of nowhere capsized the boat in knee high water, and instead of finding all that real fucking weird, they just decide to blame one of the three ponies and call it a day?

This episode was kind of a disappointment to be honest.
It was fun to see Pinkie, Applejack, and Rarity each tell the events from their perspective, and as the viewer try to figure out what really happened, but the resolution of the conflict was kind of bad in comparision.

The "outside interference" of the monster felt like an anticlimax, and I think that's what made the rest of the explanation harder to accept. I think it might've worked better if done in the reverse order. Maybe if it started with the logical part from the 3 stories, Twilight figuring out why each pony seemed to be acting strangely to the others. That's the part of the story I was most interested in.
I actually did like the monster's design, though. It's so ugly it's kinda cute.

I don't know if you've noticed, Anon, but the board always slows down towards the end of seasons and as people get more comfortable with the show they get less worked up about seeing episodes on their air date because they know where to find the episodes after they air.
It just means we get less posts in the stickies in general and less posts in the stickies as seasons wear on. In that regard, this season is in no way shape or form different or exceptional, you can see >>28545739 as an example of that.
When that other Anon is telling you what you're freaking out about isn't that important, they're being perfectly candid and serious. It's not that important, or at least it's much less some sign of some big change like you seem to think it is as it a confirmation of the status quo.

Because in the others' memories she was being remembered based on their ideas of her rather than what she was genuinely wearing. Sort of like how Rarity returned wearing her Rarity Investigates outfit but in AJ's memory was wearing a Rose dress.

This episode honestly kinda pissed me off. I was hoping we'd get some sort of "No, that never happened, I know because -I- was there. Yes me! The lockness monster, I saw it all!" Then he recaps the entire ordeal, instead we get an explanation as to why the boat tipped over, but we don't get the explanation as to what happened on the boat. And going by series logic, Applejack's story isn't fabricated in the slightest, it's 100% to her recollection, so either her story is true or she forgot what really happened.
