With how little our numbers are and the amount of content we get, I'm pretty sure starting these threads on monday is a pretty bad idea, lately they have been dying by Wednesday, at least in my case Monday-Thursday is the busiest period of the week, I cannot keep up with the thread (not that there's much to catch up on) and when I come to bump it it's already dead.

Pony-specific threads have always been the worst place to go looking for pony-specific stories. And I believe creating so many general threads with such specific themes is one of the reasons why content in the whole board has stagnated.

You can't care too much about harsh critique if you want to become a successful drawfag. We all started with making shit and if all your motivation comes from getting praise then you won't have any at all. Make what you like, not what you think other people would like. I'd be far more impressed if you kept drawing and posting regularly than if you got it right on your first try.

Nice shading, poor proportions. Less guides more practice I guess.

It's exactly this kind of mentality that causes artists to stagnate.

Motivation is the biggest misconception an artist can have. If you only draw when you're motivated, you'll draw very sporadically and improvement will be minimal.

Focus on habit, not motivation. Set aside some time every day to draw.

I don't agree with this either. Practice is extremely important, but how can you ever learn the fundamentals efficiently if you don't learn them from somewhere?

Imo, neglecting guides and studies is the difference between getting good in two years, and getting good in six.

The forms in her face don't make a whole lot of sense, you drew her eyes to be two dimensional, which...well, they certainly shouldn't be. There's little to no variation in line weight, and her wings show that you need to practice your ellipses big time. Your line confidence is also extremely lacking, and the only thing that can improve that is practice.

But, you obviously know what a plane is and your shading looks really nice...so you're on the right track. I'm going to echo >>28516304 's sentiments that practice is what you need more than anything...but the link in >>28511437 would be fantastic to help guide your practice to fix your issues.

Harsh criticism and constructive criticism aren't mutually exclusive.

Harsh criticism isn't about insulting the artist, it's about not holding anything back, which is the most helpful in the long term. Trying to avoid hurting the artist's feelings is only helpful in the short term.

Treating drawing like a workout is the fastest way to improve, yes. If you want to do that.
And yes, watching guides helps a lot and I'd recommend it to everyone, it's just that you should have a good balance between learning and practicing. It was my guess that he did too much of one thing and too little of the other.

Oh no, I agree. I probably should have mentioned that goofing off and having fun with doodling and whatever else is okay; you wouldn't want to burn yourself out. Also, practicing and learning can happen at the same time.

And no. I'm actually a hypocrite, I only draw when I'm motivated. I know way more about how to improve at drawing than what I actually apply.

So yeah, even though habit is better than motivation, building a strong habit is tough.

It's a cycle, you learn something, you practice until you get it right then you move to the next lesson.

Hooked on Enter the Gungeon lately.

I really hate gamer Luna as a meme, but I actually think Luna would be pretty into some games. I've always enjoyed her as being adventurous and competitive so it seems like if she was exposed to them, she might see them as a good time killer or good way to have some harmless duels with friends.

I'd like to imagine her trying to express herself but not knowing how to. Being alone for so long she'd have the urge to talk about her feeling with just about anyone, but she'd quickly realize that her honesty repulse ponies. They just don't know how to respond to someone talk about their deep trauma and Celestia would just feel guilty being reminded of it. She'd conceal those feelings and would act more like her sister, a kind and patient mentor. But she'd still long to scream it out, to tell someone.

To be somber, vulnerable, smeared in spaghetti and be loved in this state. Embraced and not pushed away.
