Eh, I've seen a high school movie where the kids had super powers. Nothing new to me. And, even the super power gimmick in the movie has already been better in Power Ponies with a more appropriate setting.

As for Ishi, I can't say that I would consider him until he writes an episode, or if someone can provide me an example of something he did that hasn't taken place in high school. Please don't my stubbornness as an offence, it's just that I'm not easily wooed by by a "high school drama" writer.

A big problem, as a viewer, has been the set bar of expectations. With the announcement of being a high school, the bar was set low, then lower when the first came out with its bad quality. The bar had risen when Rainbow Rocks came out, which from there the standards were consistent.
I think this is where people get the idea that "Equestria Girls has become better than the main show," in that My Little Pony's expectations and quality have become that of a figurative roller coaster.
