EQG peaked years ago with Rainbow Rocks, and even that was only as good as an average episode of the show. The music carried it mostly.

In the show we'll never have to deal with cliche teenage romance subplots and lanky human abominations, so it beats EQG out even on bad days. I shouldn't have to explain all this to you. What's even more dreadful is that EQG4 is looking to be the worst one yet, with a resurgence of Flash "Oh god we don't know what do with this guy" Sentry and the most telegraphed villain in animated history.

I'm sorry. Shitty nude edits and baconglimmer won't save your shitshow of a franchise. Can't wait for the 2017 movie to finally end this farce once and for all.

He attacked the movie for its stupid romance subplot, which is one of the most common subplots to keep anyone interested in any movie or show. It's THE common denominator and completely unnecessary since there is more than enough content to explore.
In the show we have no romance subplot (unless you really think Spike and Rarity are going anywhere). That's why the showmakers need to fill it by explaining more about the world, showing side characters and creating more or less interesting stories.
If you think I'm talking out of my ass, watch any popular show and see if you make it past season 2 without a love interest and past season 4 without any wedding. Once the setting gets old and the jokes are beaten to death multiple times, it's time for some good ol' love story.
