Good morning, little foal. Did you dream sweetly?
Previously:
>Clover left home with meager supplies, fearful of what was to come if she stayed. She didn't want to burden her mother with her departure.
>She traveled West, towards the ocean from her home north of Vanhoover.
>Clover spied upon pirates, and was captured.
>Luckily, they were good pirates.
>She was brought onto the ship and given weapons, shelter, and food, in exchange that she take on a quest for the Captain, Silverwind.
>She was instructed in basic Magic Archery and learned how to defend herself.
>She also learned what Soul Magic is, and to never use it lest she turn Hollow. (>Reference much?)
>She hugged lots of ponies, helped cook dinner, and learned about sex from Sea Shanty.
>She also learned about Sabre downstairs, and how he has a private room in the back of the cargo hold.
>She fell asleep in the hammock.
Title card is just for display purposes. Also, I decided to just draw combat as I go. I'll reuse assets that I like.
Clover begins to stir in her sleep...

Clover stirs as faint moaning breaks the peaceful slumber, the gentle creak and rock of the ship unable to drown it out. She lays in her hammock, unwilling to open her eyes.
Maybe she can sleep through it? It sounds like Sabre, but it's much too close to be him.
Clover hears the rattling of rain against the ship's hull, as a large wave swings her hammock softly. She can hear the distant shouting of the crew as they battle the storm.
It's late. Very late; the portholes of the ship dark, occasional splashes of sea water and rain almost enough to drown out the commotion below.
Is he still thumping around down there? Maybe she should check it out.

Clover leans forward in the swinging hammock, yawning as she gives a little stretch. She checks beneath the blanket with a hoof, unsure about what happened last night. She's happy to note that thankfully, she's dry, but not uncomfortably so.

Clover turns over in her hammock, attempting to get out without being too loud. She didn't want to wake any sleeping ponies, after all.

Stealth Roll: (Average Difficulty, +0) (+3) Rolled 1. Critical failure! (Even with bonuses, a 1 will be a critical failure every time, for future reference.)

Oh boy do I want to draw this. Give me a second.

Clover attempts to get out of her hammock quietly, her hoof catching on the heavy fabric as she slips forward, falling onto the floor with a loud THUMP.

Ow. -1 HP.

She's pretty sure that she ruined her stealth chances with that one. It wasn't really the fall that got her; more so the sudden stop.
Returning to her hooves, Clover scans the room. It's much darker than it was before she went to bed. Lightning strikes in the distance as she trots forward to the stairway, but stops.

It's definitely louder, and she feels uneasy. Is... is it coming towards her? She isn't sure. She definitely hears loud thumping below, but it's not coming towards the stairs.

Clover tilts her ears down the stairs, listening in intently.

Perception Roll: (Hard difficulty, -3)(+3) Rolled 9. Failed!

Clover, try as she might, can't distinguish a thing. She can tell that something is happening downstairs, but that's about it.

Stealth Roll: (Somewhat Easy difficulty, +2)(+3) Rolled 20. Critical Success!

Regardless of how badly Clover ruined her attempts earlier, it doesn't stop her. This attempt went much more smoothly. She could have snuck up on a mouse! She glides down the stairs without a sound, not a creak nor crack from the rickety wood.

Stepping to the doorway, she peaks inside of the dark room. The sounds are much clearer now, but it's pitch black inside.

>"Ooooh... G-Gods above... where did she gooo?..."

Clover hears an unfamiliar voice from the darkness, along with thumps and stumbling. It's a he, alright. She's pretty sure that's Sabre, too.

What should Clover do? He sounds... off.
>>
>>28454743
Can we make out where he's at in the darkness? Best to keep hidden, don't want him to see us.
>>
>>28454743
NOPE! outta there! Sneak back into your hammock and try to fall asleep, Silverwind told us not to come near Sabre, probably best to listen to that advice.

Clover peers into the dark, honing her senses into the nearly pitch black of the cargo hold.

Perception Roll: (Somewhat Hard Difficulty, -2) (+3) Rolled 11. Passed! Map provided.

Clover manages to make out a faint outline of what she thinks is a white stallion in the back left of the room, the silhouette stumbling in the darkness, bumping a box.

>"W-Where?..."

Judging from his location, he's pretty far back.

He doesn't seem to be wondering toward you. He seems more loopy than anything; lost kind of.

Clover gets the idea that she shouldn't be here. The darkness is thick, almost unnaturally so. The aura in the air feels... off, somehow. Silverwind's order pops into her head, and she gets the urge to run back upstairs, as quick as can be.

But she's also torn; she wants to know more about Sabre, and his condition. He doesn't seem necessarily hostile. Maybe if she stays, she'll hear more about his story?
>>
>>28454979
Keep hidden and listen. But the moment he get's closer to the stairs or thinks someone else is there we sneak back up those stairs as swiftly as our little hooves can take us.

Until we get off the boat, I'll mention when Clover fails natural rolls; an example would be a spot check, but I wont mention the exact roll when it fails. Tell me if you think I'm giving too much info on the rolls.

Clover decides to sit put and listen. There is no immediate danger, at least, not yet.

>"Scarlet... where are you Scarlet?" Sabre whimpers, bumping into another box. "Gods I miss you... Scarlet?"

Clover can't really see what's happening, but she can tell Sabre is opening one of the crates.

>"Is that you, Scarlet? Oh... it's... no, Scarlet, you're there, I know you are!"

The bumping and shifting of boxes continues for several moments in silence. Finally, a sob breaks the quiet, a thump echoing through the dark chamber as Sabre falls to the floor.

>"Scarlet, where are you? Gods, what happened? Scarlet..."

The broken pony continues to cry, Clover watching idly by.

Natural Sense Motive Check: (Very Difficult, -7) (+3) Rolled 16 (-4). 12. Passed!

The sobbing takes on a slightly different note, and Clover suddenly feels very uneasy being here. Something is nagging at the back of her mind, that maybe he's not just sad.

Clover also feels something off, like she's missing something, but can't tell. It's indistinguishable. (Failed!)

(Heading to class, then home.)

I'll only allow this once, since I gave off the hint.

Clover attempts to sense what that feeling filling the room is, her mind honing in on her natural instincts.

Detect Evil Check: (Impossible, -10) (+3) Rolled 18 (-7). 11. Passed!

The darkness filling the room, the sudden change in Sabre's tone... it clicks in Clover's head. She may be young, but she feels some kind of... vile aura filling the storage, surrounding the desperate pony.

Clover realizes what Sabre is feeling. It's fear.

Clover turns about on her hindlegs, attempting to be quiet as she trots up the stairs, like a sneaky pony should.

Stealth Check: (Average, +0) (+3) Rolled 6. 9. Failed!

Clover quietly makes her way up the stairs, her hooves falling on the wrong spot as a large creak echoes down the hallway.

Immediately, the sobbing stops, and for a brief second, silence fills the corridor.

>"Scarlet? Scarlet!"

What should Clover do?

Should I hide all of the extra roll information?

Think I'ma call it a night for now. I'll come back tomorrow and continue from there.

Now! Currently, Rolls are long. Example:

Clover tries to push a log.

Strength Check: (Average, +0) (+2) Rolled 10. 12. Success!

Clover pushes the log!
-
I can shorten them to:

Clover tries to push a log.

(Dif: +0) (Str: +2) +10 = 12. Success!

Clover pushes the log!
-
Or just this.

Clover tries to push a log.
10 (+0) (+2) = 12. Success!

Clover pushes the log.
-
So, which is more preferable?

Clover forgets about being sneaky. She needs speed. She can tell by the shuffling behind her that Sabre is following close behind, with very little concern for his own well being. He slams his body against the wall, calling out to the foal.

>"Don't leave me again! Please! It's so dark..."

Clover decides that it's too dangerous to trot out on deck in this storm; she could be thrown off the deck, or against something less than cushy. While there would be plenty of ponies around, she doesn't think many of the crew will be able to immediately tend to her in this storm.

The violent swaying of the boat made it harder for Clover to keep her ground. In the living quarters, she had two choices; hiding in the kitchen, or hiding in a hammock. With how much noise she was making, she was doubtful Sabre would just stumble by.

What should Clover do?
>>
>>28462079
Quick! Into the kitchen! There has to be a cupboard or something to hide in!
>>
>>28462079
Is our stuff in the living quarters? We might need to arm ourself. I guess kitchen knives could replace daggers in a pinch though.

>>
>>28462079

I would prefer the kitchen.

Clover thinks she's quick enough to grab her Magic Bow before dashing into the kitchen.

(Dif: -7) (Dex: +3) +16 = 12. Success!

She gallops quickly to her hammock, grabbing the bow and ripping it free of her pack. She turns about in one agile motion and darts into the darkened kitchen, finding a big crate to hide behind.

Hopefully, Sabre wont follow her too far.

It goes very quiet in the room, as the seconds trickle by... (Failed!)

What should Clover do? She's unsure if it's safe or not to leave...

Clover keeps calm, closing her eyes as she listens intently.

(Dif: -4) (Int: +3) +14 = 13. Success!

Though it's quiet, Clover can hear the steps of Sabre as he slowly makes his way through the room. His breathing is a little ragged, and definitely not entirely natural. He steps through the kitchen.

>"Oh Scarlet, you're so precious... hiding from me... is this a little game? I love games. Heh... oh, I can't wait to be with you again!"

Clover chances a look to her right, her eyes widening in shock.

Sabre stands in the shadows, his head hung low as he breathes heavily through his mouth, gliding silently through the room on silent steps. His eyes are lost beneath a thick cloud of unnatural smoke, the filly unable to pierce through this darkness with her eyes.

What kind of sickness is this?! Regardless, Clover readies the bow in her hooves, unsure of what to do next. She doesn't even know if he can see her.

Clover holds her breath, closing her eyes as the stallion makes his way around the room, sightless eyes passing through her in the dim shadows. Her lungs begin to burn and ache, heart thudding in her chest as he makes his way around.

(Dif: -5) (Str: +2) +11 = 8. Failed!

Clover's lil' lungs can't take it anymore, her strength giving out as she exhales a bit too quickly. Sabre stops, unmoving for a second before continuing onwards.

Suddenly, he spins around, smiling at Clover!

>"Found yoooouuu~" He says, his hoof darting forward, stopping an inch from her face before gently booping her.

>"Gosh, you're so soft... did you lose weight? You seem smaller than I remember." That dopey grin grows wider. "But that doesn't bother me one bit, Scarlet. In fact... I don't think Skillet would mind one bit if we used her kitchen for a little fun."

Clover attempts to throw off Sabre, stating she isn't Scarlet and that his cutiemark is missing. When she mentioned it, it popped back into place, fainter than before.

(Dif: +5) (Int: +3) + 1 = 9 Critical failure! (Rolled a 1.)

Sabre gives dopey grin, his ears folding down as he stops listening to the rambling, panicking filly. She may have accidentally said "I am Scarlet", instead of Clover, too. Sabre is no longer listening to Clover's pleas!

>"You're so cute when you ramble, Scarlet..."

Regardless of her failure, Clover attempts to flee!

(Dif: -2) (Dex: +3) +4 = 5. Failed!

As Clover backs up against the box, she gets the idea to dart to her right, but she's quickly stopped by Sabre's hoof, the larger, faster Stallion closing in. His spatial sense seems entirely unaffected by the affliction.

>"Oooh... quick, huh? I bet you were thinking about doing it in Shanty's hammock... heh, but I don't think she'd notice the stains, so what'd be the point?

Running out of options, Clover doesn't think she can flee from this situation. (Sabre is preventing any flee attempts!)

Her ears perk up, scanning over the crazed stallion, who leans in, whispering into her ear.

(Dif: -2) (Int: +3) +18 = 10. Success! (Sense Motive Check)

He mumbles something, and she's pretty sure she gets the message. So that's what Shanty was talking about, huh?

Clover can no longer flee from Sabre while his hoof is blocking the way. Sabre will no longer listen to persuasion attempts.

Oh shit.

Who needs words? This stallion has it coming, evil eyes or not!

Clover attempts to catch the stallion off guard with a sneak attack!

(Dif: +3) (Dex: +3) +20 = 26. CRITICAL Success!

Clover is upon Sabre faster than light, her hoof flying for his face with terrifying speed!

(I was going to roll for damage, but then we landed on ANOTHER 20... soo...)

Several miles away, ponies were awoken to the sound of a terrifying crack, the echoes to be written down in history as "the single most powerful punch in all of pony history". Well, for a filly, that is. Her hooves kick off the box behind her, the adrenaline and fear combining into a deadly attack.

If there was anything left of the pony, it definitely wouldn't remember it in the morning. The punch is so powerful in fact, Clover can't feel her hoof when she finally lands. Well, more so collides with the wall twenty feet away, her hooves having pushed her through the air with such force. (-2 HP.)

Uhm... victory, I guess. Sabre doesn't look like he's going to be moving anytime soon, at least. His nose is bleeding profusely. He'll never view nose boops from fillies the same again.

This was definitely not the intended result. Clover stumbles to her hooves, shaking the slightly burnt hoof (probably from throwing the world's most terrifying punch) slightly. She dropped her bow in the attack.

Looking over Sabre, his eyes are stuck shut in a pained expression, the darkness no longer swirling from them. He looks pretty normal, excluding the blood pouring on the floor. Clover is pretty sure he isn't dead, and with a poke, he gives a little twitch. Yep, not dead.

Well then... what should she do?

Clover decides that the first thing she should do, is tend to the utterly destroyed stallion's face, and probably clean up the blood off of the floor and her hoof. It's a lot of blood, after all.

She manages to find a relatively clean rag, sliding it across the sticky mess with a grimace. Sabre's face doesn't help, as it continues to drip blood for several more moments before slowly coming to an end. She thinks about dabbling it across his nose, but she's pretty sure if she does, she wont find a solid bone beneath it, so she holds off. She also note that when Sabre fell backwards, his horn must have stuck into the floor. She also notices that his Cutiemark is gone once again. Odd.

She can hear two sets of hooves coming down the stairs, worried about the big mess and tussle. Wiping the last of the blood from her hoof, she grabs her bow, slinging it onto her back. It seems to stick there without much assistance.

Welp, that went well. What next?

One Punch Clover will be the title card for the next thread.

Panic sets in as Clover thinks of what could happen. She could be thrown off the ship, or worse, all because she couldn't stay in her bed. Running out the kitchen door, she almost collides into a soaking wet Silverwind and an equally drenched Sunny Shores. What's noticeably different besides that is that Sunny has a cutiemark now, though Clover is not sure why he didn't have one before. She chalks it up to paint, Not artistry error which seems to be a fad around the ship. Pirates have to be hard to identify, after all.

Teary eyed and crying, Clover explains what happened in full detail, not sparing a moment's memory from what happened. Clover begging not to be punished, Shores glares at the filly while Silverwind sighs.

>"Y'know... I thought this wouldn't happen, but it's hard to keep a unicorn in the brig. Clover, calm down. We're not gonna toss you off the ship. Sunny, go take care of Sabre. Me and Clover need a private chat."

Sunny gives an exhausted groan, trotting into the kitchen.

>"By the Gods, she wasn't kidding!" Sunny shouts, as Silver motions Clover to follow. He leads her down the stairs, into the somewhat brighter storage. It seems that with Sabre knocked out, the evil has dispersed.

>"Alright... None of the other crew knows this, so I'm going to have to ask you to keep it secret, okay? Well, except Sunny." He says, digging into a storage crate, pulling out a fresh towel. "Sabre... well, he's enthralled by a vampire."

A vampire?

>"A real vampire. At least, it's what I can tell. I didn't know until just recently, when he started to go into... withdrawal. That's what you saw. It happened about a week after we left port."

This is all quite a bit for a little filly to digest. A vampire? It would explain the shadows from his eyes, at the very least.

Silverwind begins to answer Clover's questions. All of them.

>"Vampires are nasty creatures. Worse than changelings, but slightly better than demons, if you had to pick one. Vampires have manners, at the very least. You can't "fix" a thrall with a beating, otherwise it wouldn't be a big issue. And he uh... probably wanted to give it to you because that's probably how Scarlet, our vampire, lured him in. Yes, Vampires drink blood. But that's just to survive. They also drain the life force of their thralls, it's how they live so long. I was hoping distance from the city would sever the connection Sabre had with Scarlet... but I don't see that working anytime soon. And don't worry about Scarlet; I think she's after stallions more so than lil' fillies. He's been a thrall for a few weeks now, but its only become apparent after the first week in. Which is how we met up with Coin; I wanted to distance Sabre from Vanhoover, where he met her."

He finishes wiping his face, sighing. Clover's questions never end, either.

>"A thrall wouldn't have eyes like that, no. In fact, I'm not sure why it happened. I think it may have to do with the lack of contact with Scarlet. And as for what we're going to do... well, I'm hoping Vee will have the answers. You haven't met her yet; she's our contact in Vanhoover, and a very smart pony."

>"The cutiemark... I think maybe he's losing his life force. It's kinda like losing your soul, except you die when it's all gone. Not healthy for thralls. I wouldn't be able to do anything myself to help it. And for shapeshifting... maybe a bat, sometimes. I dunno if she'd turn him into a Vampire. He's hardly the matierial for it. And the crew doesn't need to worry about it. The only thing he can do is hump our legs... which is why I said don't go downstairs."

Silverwind describes a vampire to Clover, to get the general idea. It's kinda vague, and very spooky.
>>
>>28479526
Well if he tries to hump us again we hope that he has enough sense left in him to recognize the filly that knocked his dick in the dirt and that we are not to be messed with. Maybe tie him up, I'm sure he won't mind in his current state. So does Sunny hate foals or something? He always seems mad at us.

Let's try and see if we can get to sleep, after such a spooky conversation.

With Halloween coming up, this whole quest is going to have quite a bit of spooky inspirations thrown into the mix. (Halloween is my FAVORITE holiday. Fall is my favorite season, too.)

>"How come there's no shading in the pictures after Clover KO'd Sabre?" Someone is probably asking.

I'll add shading when Clover feels insecure/in danger. It's to add to the mood. Combat wont have shading, though. I'll add basic shading for shadows/darkness when necessary, and if it's really dark, the scene with be in gray/black.

I'm trying to go for SOME quality, but I don't want to spend an extra hour trying not to fuck it all up. (I've been having waaaay too many fuckups for my own liking.)

I'm also constantly trying to improve my skill with drawing. There are some angles and poses I'm good at, and a lot I haven't tried, so I'm trying to go for pretty much everything I can. I don't want to use ten good poses to the point that the images feel copy and pasted.

Any suggestions on how to improve the CYOA? I'm always looking for good advice, and mindful criticisms are welcome.

Clover hugs onto Silverwind tightly, worried about the future in general, and about Sabre turning into a vampire. She'd like to know more, perhaps any stories he's had with them.

>"I've never personally had a run in with vampires... I'd hardly know the first thing about fighting them. But I've heard the stories, and I know it's a lot to take in. But it'll be okay. It's not too big of an issue; it's not like we'll be attacked by hordes of thralls when we arrive. If anything, she probably left Vanhoover."

Clover asks if they can check in on Sabre and Sunny, to see how things are coming around.

>"They'll be down here soon, I'd wager. Sabre is a tough pony, I wouldn't keep him around if I didn't like him. It's kinda why I didn't have him thrown overboard the moment he started to show the signs. If we can break the curse on him... well, he's worth keeping."

Silverwind hugs the filly tightly, giving her some much needed affection, his mane and coat drying out by the moment.

"If you wanna know what's happening upstairs, I might as well fill you in. We're in a bad storm. Not that I didn't expect it, but the whole crew is keeping our vessel strapped together. You're lucky you didn't run out into the storm; you probably would have been swept off into the ocean. I don't know if you'd survive that. Here, let's head back upstairs. I need some breakfast, and I bet I know where we can find some."

Silverwind scoops the filly up onto his back once more, before returning up the stairway with several towels in his magic's grasp. He mentions it's for the crew, when the storm dies down.

(Hasbrown break post. Gotta run errands.)

So what's for breakfast? I hope it's hashbrowns!

>"Definitely hashbrowns. I love those things! To the kitchen, before Skillet finds out!"

And thus, they were on their way to kitchen.

Clover wants to know why Sunny doesn't like her.

>"Eh... That, I'm not too sure of. But it may have to do with his past. He used to run a little orphanage in Vanhoover well before he became a sea faring pony. He wouldn't tell me why he left. But he knows his charting, and the ocean better than most, so he's valuable. If you really wanna know, you'll have to get on his good side. My suggestion is to bring him candy. Sunny loves chocolate, I believe."

They arrive in the kitchen, and take a long hashbrown break, where clover learns that it's around 6 or 7 AM. She would love to go back to sleep, but after all of this excitement (and the fact that she's been waking up around this time more often than not), she doubts she could.

Silver deposits Clover at a table in front of the kitchen, the filly chanting "Breakfast" on loop as he tells her to hold her horses.

>"Chef Silverwind, to the rescue!"

He trots into the the kitchen, horn alight as he sets to work. Clover asks if she can help, if she can do anything fun while he cooks. After a million answers, each of which creatively telling her "no" she resorts back to her chant for breakfast.

Clover also asks if she can check up on Sabre and Mr. Mean Pony, and see if she can win his favor. And also how long the storm has been going.

>"After breakfast! And well past midnight, around the later hours before dawn. Probably around three? I don't recall. I kinda walked into it in my sleep."

It reminds Clover that Silverwind sleepwalks. Huh. Maybe he'll tell her a bit about that later.

Finally, after what felt like a hundred years and lots of whining, Silverwind drops a plate full of a hashbrowns on the table.

>"Before you go running off, you have to eat ALL of these eggs-I mean... hashbrowns."

Clover can only drool in its golden glory.

>"Whatever those ponies say in Prance, I guess. Bon... appe-somethin'. I should really sail there some time."

He also drops a small heart shaped box on the table. "To save you the trouble of scouring every nook and cranny of my ship for some sweets".

Clover dives head first into the food, similar to her lunch the day before. Silverwind is mildly amused. (+3 HP!) (9/9)

(Last for the night.)

Clover thanks the Cap'n for the amazing fried spuds.

>"Not a problem! If anypony asks, Seabreeze did it. It's what I tell Skillet whenever she complains about somepony in the kitchen."

She also wants to know if the ship has been damaged in the storm.

>"Nothing too fierce; most of the damage was to the crew, and maybe a bit to the mast. But we can patch up nearly anything. I don't think this storm is going to end today; in fact, we're probably going to see rain at Vanhoover soon. We'll be arriving there in a couple of hours."

Clover looks over the box of chocolates, her eyes leveling with the table. It looks like it's a gift, meant for somepony. She can't read too well, but she does remember enough of what her real father taught her to read "With Love to you" on the front. She resists the urge to scarf them down. Instead, she asks what Vanhoover is like.

>"Oh, it's a big city. Well, big for a newer city. It has a large clocktower, right in the center. It used to be called Clocktown until some kinda weird meteor almost struck it. After the repairs, it was renamed Vanhoover after the mayor who died from the fiasco. He had a heart attack after three solid days of arguing with the guards and event planners on whether to evacuate or not, and when the meteor almost hit... well, he didn't make it."

Clover wants to know about Silver's sleep walking.

>"Eh? Oh, it's something strange alright. Some nights, I wake up on the deck, usually with a mop and bucket. I don't know why. But it keeps the deck clean, I guess."

Silverwind says that Sunny is probably up a floor, treating Sabre where they keep the canons. They have a stashed medical crate up there, for the inevitable post-battle. He gives Clover a towel to bring to him, along with the candy.

Clover wants to know how long Silver's sleepwalking has been going on.

>"Let's see... about the same time we left Vanhoover, but I don't think it has anything to do with Vampires, so don't worry your lil' head over it."

Clover, finished eating and being adorable for the moment, hops away towards the stairs. The rattling rain strikes against the side of the ship as she decides to peak into the little red box.

Yep. Full of chocolate. She does NOT eat the chocolate, no matter how badly Clover wants to.

Well... maybe a small piece. Yum!

She finds Sunny behind the Canon Room, without his soaking wet shirt. He seems finished tending to the knocked out Sabre, wiping his hooves away of excess blood. He doesn't pay any attention to Clover, even with the towel and chocolates on her head.

Unsure of what to say, Clover stares at the seapony, then Sabre, then back to him.

By the way he's scrubbing his hooves, he's clearly getting agitated.

Clover gives the grumpy pony the towel and chocolates, giving him the biggest puppy dog eyes one could ever hope to witness. He gazes past those clover green irises before sighing, giving up.

>"I guess you want some too, huh?" He asks, throwing the towel around him.

Clover nods enthusiastically as she bounds over to his side, resting her head on his shoulder as she looks over Sabre.

Sunny pops off the lid to the chocolates, popping one into his muzzle as he offers Clover one as well. She gratefully excepts it, nomming the sweet treat.

>"I don't think he'll be able to breathe for a week or two out of his snout, but I don't think you fractured too many bones. Pfft... dumbass fucked with the wrong filly." Silverwind was right about his language.

He smiles, kicking the unconscious Sabre's cheek gently, his expression softening as he rubs himself against the towel, slowly drying off.

>"Where'd a filly like you get these, anyway? Did you bring them on with you?" He bites into a nougat filled chocolate ball, smiling. "I don't think it really matters, huh? Very sweet of you. You're not too bad, shorty."

He pats Clover on the head, passing her another treat.

(Breaking after this, hands hurt)

Clover asks how the storm is coming along, and how he joined the pirates. She also thanks him for the nice compliment.

>"Eh, it's a storm. Me and Silver were in the brunt of it for a while, but when it really started to pick up, we had to get the rest of the crew out in force to keep the ship from toppling over. Let's see... I think I joined about a year ago, after I quit my job at the Orphanage in Vanhoover. And you're very welcome."

She wants to know what Vanhoover is like.

>"Oh, Vanhoover? Hell, half of the crew is from there, pretty much, bar a couple of the veterans. But Vanhoover is amazing. You have to see it for yourself. It's massive for a relatively new city; the clock tower on the hill, the yearly celebrations. You have to see it to believe it. It has this familiar smell to it... around fall, they're probably preparing for the annual Carnival of Ages. It's the best time to land in port as it is. Security will be busy and overworked checking in the new arrivals to pay attention to us. We have until the Carnival itself to depart, but from what Cap'n is saying, you wont be coming back with us. You'll be staying with Vee. You'll get to see the festival, lucky you." He frowns. Apparently he really likes the Carnival.

Seen anything interesting?

>"Eh, nearly all of the Luna Ocean, but nothing past Equestria, really. This isn't a very old vessel itself. But I have been to the unexplored wilds to the south, talk about danger. Go there if you have a deathwish."

How'd you get that Cutiemark?

>"This ol' thing? Believe it or not, I used to be a guide for colts and fillies alike. I put them on the right course, y'know, set them right. But those fuckwits down at the halfway house didn't like me, so I quit. I used to be a lot more optimistic until then. It means the start of a new day; or the beginning of a new journey."

He quit his job? Huh. Maybe it has to do with small fillies...
