Just think about it, when Diamond Tiara got home from a defeat, and her only friend temporarily left her side as well, who did DT have to comfort her?
Nopony. Her father is probably not even at home, or at least it's safe to assume he's not the cuddly type, and her mother has nothing but bad words to throw at her.
That's a pretty cold home for a filly, when a home should be a place where you feel the safest and most loved.
DT being able to turn how she did, and not to ever get more harsh with her bullying means she was always more than decent.
